I've had four appointments at Stone Dental and I will not be going back. I've gone in for two cleanings and in both instances they spent more time discussing my need to come back for an out-of-pocket "deep clean" than they did actually cleaning and flossing my teeth. When I explained that I can't afford any elective out-of-pocket expenses right now, they became condescending and continued to pressure me to make the appointment. I went in for a cavity filling and after getting the numbing injection, I sat in the chair for 30 minutes without being checked on. The dentist was kind, but after completing the procedure, she told me that my charts note that I need to come in for a deep clean and proceeded to try to sell me on it. I also went in for a new retainer. They fortunately did not mention the deep clean, but the downside to this visit was that I was not informed of the cost until several days after the appointment when my card was charged $700 without warning. Stone Dental's friendly receptionists are perhaps the only enjoyable aspect. Unfortunately, they aren't enough to convince me to return anymore. read more

Do you like harassment, inappropriate staff conversations and improper dental care... Then stone dental is for you. I went to stone in 2020/21 and experienced racial comments from the dental hygienist towards other people, a pack of transparency with cost and less than stellar dental work. The practice did not listen to me and instead pushed me into a deep cleaning when I went in over a chipped filling. After the deep cleaning was complete I was then pushed into a root canal for the tooth with a chipped filling ( a second opinion stated I didn't really need one) and then post root I had my temporary crown come off 3 times... Three... Like... Huh? My tooth is still experiencing issues 2 years later. Oh and don't forget the pricing, you won't ever get a full answer on out of pocket cost, instead you will constantly have extra costs "pop up" and you will receive bill after bill that is completely unitimized. Dealing with the management there is exhausting and they are horrifically unprofessional. I wish I was the only one to have this happen to them but I have 2 other friends that experienced the same. Please avoid this place at all costs, there are excellent dentists in Chicago but this one is just not it. read more

I filled out the requested forms online so when I checked in, I didn't have a stack of paperwork to go through. The staff was very friendly and the environment was very clean. I just relocated to Chicago and the constant calls and google searches trying to locate a good dentist can sometimes be discouraging but I must say the staff here is very professional, welcoming and very informative. Had my second appointment today. After my first visit 6 months ago, I was referred to an orthodontist to get my top wisdom teeth removed. Eric did my cleaning that day and I could barely open my mouth. I was a ball of nerves due to the pain. He keeps wonderful conversation and really cares about what he does. I appreciate his ease in keeping conversation going to keep your mind from freaking out and is the reason I come back. Staff is knowledgeable and helpful. They recently moved to a new facility. I've been coming here for over two years now. I'm blessed that my insurance covers so much and that I am able to come as much as I want. Being a bit of a oral hygiene freak, I come every 3 months. Honest to God this place is the best dentist I've ever been to. They take most insurance and are conscious of your benefits to tell you in advance what is covered and what will cost you a pretty penny. Everyone is kind. I've referred people in the past and they've sent me a hand written thank you note. The receptionists are friendly, prompt and helpful. The hygienists are excellent tooth cleaners. Even the dentists will do the cleaning from time to time. Everyone makes an effort to have a conversation - and we have some nice ones too! I've never been left in the waiting room for more than 10 minutes... And I've never been left in the chair for a long time either. They are open some Saturdays and take appointments to 6 PM several week nights. For working America this is a life saver. X-rays are a breeze and they take the time to compare last year to the current x-rays to make sure there aren't developing problems. I've been blessed to not have to get any dental work done yet, but for my cavity prone boyfriend it was quick, easy and relatively painless. Dr. Azim was named to the 2011 Top Doctors and Dentists list too. All in all, I HIGHLY recommend this place. Tell them I sent you! read more

If you can avoid going here, please do. I go to the dentist every 6 months and no one has ever told me anything more than to floss. My first appointment here they told me I needed a deep cleaning which cost $500+ out of pocket after insurance. I continued to stay with them and they told me because of the deep cleaning I needed to come back every 3 months. However, they failed to tell me that my insurance only covers 2 cleanings. So surprise!! I had to pay out of pocket on my next visit, which is a lot if you don't have the funds / budget to do so. Everyone is nice, except they charge you ridiculous amounts for routine services and special services that you probably don't even need in the first place. They also never ever tell you what they're charging you for. They only give you the total and also don't give you a receipt.. it's all so sketchy. They only care about money. When I called to tell them I was switching dentists all they said was "we'll cancel your appointment" and immediately hung up on me. Please do yourself a favor and go somewhere else that genuinely cares about your health and well-being. read more

If you are looking for a dentist steer clear of this one. I know 5 patients including myself and everyone has had a terrible experience and been left with a shockingly high bill for routine services. They are not looking out for your health and well being but more so looking to fill their wallets by extremely overcharging people hoping the insurance will cover most and then hoping their patients are stupid enough to cover the rest. The rates they use are triple other dentists I have been to in the city. Their customer service at the front desk is terrible and I wouldn't wish working with them on anyone. Seems like to be a similar pattern here...this place overcharges. My husband came here because they said they were in our network and a friend recommended the place. $600 for deep cleaning after insurance and we still received another bill!!! I had deep cleaning done with another place and paid $100 after insurance. Also, beware of them suggesting so many procedures...I recommend getting a second opinion. Another reviewer had the same issue. I suggest to stay away from this place unless you like to overpay for things and get unneccesary work done. It hurts to have to leave a review like this, especially when the reputation is otherwise untarnished, but I was very unhappy with my recent visit. The service itself was fine. I went in for (what I thought was) a standard cleaning. All of the usual usual procedures that make up a cleaning happened. Everything was going fine until I went to check out... ...and was hit with a $180 bill for (what I thought) was a standard cleaning. I couldn't believe the cost and spoke with the dentist about why the bill was so high. She explained that it was out of her hands and it was the insurance companies fault. However, the problem as I see it is their definition of a standard cleaning is very different from what I am accustomed to. At every dentist I've ever been to, they remove the plaque from your teeth by any means necessary, give you a polish, and send you on your way. This is what was done here, but for some reason using a drill to remove some plaque is considered 'major' dental work, and the reason I was charged this absurd amount of money for a simple cleaning. I was told they would see what they could do about the price and I would get a call the next day. I never got the call, and when I checked my mail today I think I understand why. I received an additional bill for another $82! Incredible! If only I had gone to my last dentist, this standard cleaning would have only cost me $25 instead of $242. I only went to this one because its closer to where I live now. I see in other yelp reviews that they contacted some of their customers insurance companies and only performed services that were covered. This certainly wasn't the case for me! If they had told me that using the drill to remove plaque was going to have this kind of impact on the price, I would have said 'no thank you'. In summary, a very nice very professional dental office, but their definition of what is included in a standard cleaning does not line up with any other dentist I've been to, and boy did I pay the price for it. read more

Today was my third visit to stone dental and I continue to be impressed. I am still amazed at how Eric, my hygienist, manages to scold my lack of proper dental hygeine techniques without making me feel like an idiot. He always asks if anything hurts and changes tactics if i say yes. He has explained how to floss each time with slow patience. After my deep cleaning, Dr. Assudani treated my cavities, again making me feel at ease the entire time. I went to see Dr. Azim on the recommendation of my periodontist after a disappointing experience with a highly-rated Yelp dentist in my neighborhood. Her office staff were extremely friendly and called my insurance company while I filled out my initial paperwork to find out exactly what they would cover before my appointment started. She then followed through and did nothing that wasn't covered. Dr. Azim introduced herself to me early in the appointment and the cleaning from her hygienist was one of the best I have ever had, both in terms of technique and equipment. She explained that my gums were getting into the danger zone (4 and 5 mm) but said that since I was overdue for a cleaning, we should give me the chance to solve the problem through this cleaning, more regular flossing and mouthwash before recommending something more invasive. I always take it as a good sign when a health practitioner (or plumber, for that matter) doesn't need my extra money right away and is willing to let me fix it myself if I can. And although she offered me a prescription mouthwash, she also told me the brand name of an over the counter one that would work, also. This tells me that I'll be able to trust future recommendations for procedures as actually necessary. I look forward to working with Dr. Azim for as long as I live in Chicago on my dental health. read more

Update: After posting my original review, East Erie Dental - the main office for this dental group - contacted me regarding my experience (to note - they had to do a bit of research to figure out who I was since I didn't leave a full name or date of original visit). They offered to fix the filling (which still had a ridge remaining that caught food constantly) and the chip in my front tooth, free of charge. The office staff was extremely courteous, and did whatever they could to get me in during a time that worked around my schedule. During my follow-up visit, I had the opportunity to see Dr. Azimzadeh. She was extremely apologetic and took care of all of my issues. While the filling will likely need to be replaced at some point in time, we chose to try sanding the ridge down a bit first to see if a full replacement was actually necessary. She offered to replace it at no charge at any time in the future, if it becomes necessary. Dr. Azimzadeh also offered to take care of additional dental services we discovered were needed during this visit, simply due to the inconvenience of my first couple of visits. This was a very big expense that I would have had to pay a large portion of out-of-pocket, so this gesture was greatly appreciated! The East Erie office was beautiful (this is the office you see on their website). The floor the office was on was under construction (which was a bit confusing when you first walk in), but the office itself was very nice and clean. They even had massage chairs and fancy gel-like pillows! Also, I believe they take pictures of each patient, so when you walk in, you are greeted by name... a nice personal touch. SO, long story short, I will continue to see Dr. Azimzadeh for my regular dental procedures. Hopefully, this treatment isn't due to my initial complaint on Yelp... but with my experience with Dr. Azimzadeh specifically thus far, I would recommend her to friends and family. read more

Long story short...I'm an idiot. My new dentist is at 2850 n sheridan, and I walked into the medical building at 2800 and asked for the dentist office. Well after getting started and having xrays, they realized I don't have the right insurance for them. They gave me 50% off out of pocket for the xrays(since they were already done-I'm in healthcare so I get that they should get something-it was a skilled service). The office was nice, and the front staff and hygienist were all really nice and cheerful. If I had a PPO and not an HMO, I would go there...but such is life. read more

My experience with Stone Dental was by far amazing! The staff is really friendly and made sure I was extremely comfortable throughout the whole process. I am a working professional so it is hard for me to get my appointments scheduled however Stone Dental worked with me to find a time that works with me. They also were able to do a filling on the same day that I was there for a cleaning since it is hard to find time to make multiple visits. I am also doing invisalign with them! I didn't think it was possible but they have highly skilled professionals that are able to take on the worst case scenarios like mine! I am excited and will continue to go there for years! read more

I got a deep cleaning done and must say that Eric was excellent! He never let me feel the pain at all. I got my wisdom teeth removed and Dr Azim called up to follow up on how that procedure went as well. Truly professional, compassionate and concerned Doctor. Extremely happy! I would strongly recommend her to anyone seeking a good dentist. Update: just went in today as well because I was having some pain. She did free X-rays and charged me nothing for the consultation as well. I called in the morning and they were able to schedule me in for an appointment the same day. Stay away from this office. Believe what you saw in other negative reviews here. They messed up with the insurance requirements and will do service to you that your insurance would not cover. Also another thing you need to be aware is, if you ask them if they would accept the insurance you have, they would tell you they do accept it - but that could mean they are out of the network but they will file the claim to your insurance company anyway. (My insurance provider is one of the biggest in the nation. It surprised me when my insurance said they are not in the network) But that is not the worst part. The worst part is, when the insurance claim misses important documents from them thus deny the claim, they said it is you, the patient's, responsibility for that. read more

I am also bummed to say that I should have been more careful before choosing this dentist . The reviews seem really great...so I decided to go for it. Chris C.'s review is along the same lines of what happened to me. I was hit with nearly a $300 bill, 3 months after my visit, for what I thought was just a routine cleaning. I have really good insurance and have never paid more than $25 for a cleaning. Something weird that I think is worth mentioning: The entire time the dentist and hygienist were talking to me I think they were trying to price gauge me - asking what I do for a living, where I live, what my role in my company is...I don't know if there's any truth to this but something about it seemed pretty odd, and as though they were trying to see how much they could bill me for. I called in and the office clerk I chatted with mentioned that she could take a % off the bill, which I'm grateful for...but it's still going to cost me MUCH more than I have ever paid for a cleaning. I looked at the ratings and with a reference from a coworker, happened to go to Stone dental. They looked at my teeth, took X-rays and told me I need deep cleaning as my gums are swollen and also, I have 3 cavities that need fixed, and others that don't need to be taken care of right away. I have never had cavities in my life and I have pretty good oral health. Scared to shit, I made an appointment with them for the deep cleaning setting but still skeptical, postponed it to later and decided on getting second opinions. I went to THREE more dentists after these guys to check, double check and triple check if their diagnosis was true or not. Turns out, every single one of them told me, no I do not have any cavities at all!!! In fact, the first one I went to even told me that I don't have cavities, but if he drills a hole into my tooth in the name of treatment, then I would get a cavity. This was only to convince me that I really don't have any bad teeth since I kept asking him if he was sure. Turned out, I only have one tooth that has a 'lesion', and might become a cavity in the future if I don't take care of it. No treatments, no charges asked for from any of these three dentists. And guess what, stone dental alone sent me a bill. My insurance took care of it, however I still had to pay the deductible because they somehow managed to name my preventive care visit as a diagnostic 'gross debridement' even if all thy did was a regular cleaning the day of my visit. Update. Dr. Azim called me back to her office, explained to me about their diagnosis and how/why the other dentists might not have been able to come to the same diagnosis. I understand that x-rays are not 100% accurate and I could agree with her thinking logically (being a biologist and a researcher myself). However I still feel a little averse to going back to Stone dental. She did offer me a $150 gift card for my time to meet her and hear her out. I appreciate her effort in trying to make me understand the medical terminologies, diagnosis and prognosis. read more
