I have always avoided dentists my entire adult life. I had an accident and broke out most of my top teeth. I was forced to get care. I had to have all of my teeth extracted and got fit for dentures. It was a long experience. Dr Singh made the experience fantastic. She made me feel comfortable from minute 1. She is very knowledgable and she listened to all of my concerns. And she addressed all of my concerns. I've heard nothing but horror stories about people who get dentures. After all of the fittings, when I finally did get my permanent dentures I was very pleased. They fit perfectly with no irritation or issues. It's been over a month now and they still feel very comfortable. It's great to be able to smile and eat solid foods again. If I could leave more than a 5 star review, I would. Dr. Singh took my bad situation and fixed it. My quality of life is so much better after this experience. read more

I went to the Old town location and the service was terrible. I was there for over a hour and a half. The X-rays took so long the doctor was unable to clean my teeth. This is unacceptable because I came in for a cleaning!!! I am telling everyone I know not to go to the Old town location. The doctor told me before I left they would email a list of the services I needed and I also never received that. Do not contact me. Came in for an exam and was quoted my out-of-pocket cost, which I paid. Months later was told I had a $10.00 "balance" and that the amount covered by insurance was "only an estimate." I have had numerous new patient exams as I have lived in various duty stations around the country and this is the only time I have ever had to pay more than I was originally quoted as my portion of the cost. I understand estimates can be wrong, but this provider had my insurance information in advance of the appointment and could have easily confirmed the reimbursable amount. And, several months elapsed before I was informed of this balance due. One might think in the interest of customer satisfaction the $10.00 might be waived. One would be wrong. read more

Modern Smiles is a great dentist office! I have not had a primary dentist office in a few years so I knew I wanted to check out Modern Smiles when they first started building the office. I expected Modern Smiles to be a little more upscale because of its location and its exterior so I wasn't surprised how nice it looks inside. The inside of the office is decorated very modern and the staff makes sure the office is clean. Since we are in a pandemic I didn't get to see much of the back offices but I got to see the front half that I was placed. My favorite aspect of the dental office is the massage chairs! I didn't realize the dental chair was a massage chair until I came back from my x-rays and felt movement on my back. The chair made the experience more pleasant and extremely relaxing. The office is adhering to the pandemic social distancing and face masks mandates. I was the only person in the waiting room when I arrived and the only person in it when I left. I could only hear one other patient in the facility but they were on the opposite side of the office, in the back area, and I never saw them. The office asks that you arrive no more than 10-15 mins before your appointment and try to come by yourself if possible, so I felt very comfortable throughout the whole experience. Of course I needed to take off my mask for my dental services but I was the only one mask-less during the actual examination and x-ray portion of my visit. They offer hand sanitizer as well as charge a PPE fee to ensure they can offer the safest experience. You are informed ahead of time about the PPE fee when you fill out the visit consent forms as well as the doctor walked me through the bill and mentioned the PPE fee. I had the pleasure of being matched with Dr. Rita Shah who was awesome! Dr. Shah is extremely personable, knowledgeable, and patient. She walked me through what was discovered during my visit and explained any future treatments she would recommend as well as worked with me to find a follow-up appointment before the new year. I normally don't mind the dentist (needles in my mouth don't scare me especially as a former person with braces) but I cannot wait for my next visit! read more

I had put off going to the dentist for a few years after having some negative experiences. My appointment here was truly wonderful and helped ease my dental anxieties. My dental tech, Meredith, was incredibly kind and attentive and Dr. T was very friendly and took his time explaining my plan of care and answering all of my questions. This office has great staff and facilities (including a roller massage treatment chair!) but isn't for anyone who is either struggling financially since the pandemic or after any other major life events, or who is on the spectrum, neurodivergent, or has a history of trauma. The one thing this practice lacks is functional empathy/ compassion. They do ask if you have special requests, and do their best to honor them... but then speak condescendingly to you as if you are a child, as soon as you express them. One hygienist, didn't have the patience to fully explain what she wanted me to do, and just grabbed me like a doll and pushed my arm where she wanted it, then got offended when I said that she needed to ask for consent before grabbing my wrist, and today, the other one got so tense and upset when I said. "Can I please just have a cleaning, so I can go back to work!!??" (Rather than have the same discussion of why it would be too challenging for me to receive orthodontic treatment at this time) If you are a cash patient, they will charge you for a full annual exam every time you get your teeth cleaned, and they will continue to push you to have additional services, even after you say, I believe you.. but I can't afford it right now. So be prepared to politely decline repeatedly without losing your composure (which is what I did today) All that said, I do recommend this practice, as it is one of the better of the 4 I've had in my 18 years in Chicago, but I don't think I'll be going back. I hope someday I can find a practice with more patience and understanding. read more

I had an absolutely wonderful experience with Dr. Iqbal and the modern smiles team. She's amazing! I would HIGHLY recommend her OVER ANY other dentist in Chicago, hands down!! I was a patient of Dr. Iqbal at another practice in the loop and when she moved here, I had to follow. Dr. Iqbal does a great job of explaining what the issue is with my teeth, what we need to do to address it, and any other relevant factors. She's a professional with over 10 years of experience and her approach to dentistry, her knowledge, and the way she interacts with her patients show it. Her professionalism is only matched by her kind, funny, and amiable demeanor. The office is super sheik, clean, and stylish. The staff is fun and friendly. They even accommodated me during CVOID-19. They were taking all the necessary precautions, asking screening questions, exercising social distancing, and using the right personal protection equipment. This made me feel super safe and comfortable! I wouldn't pay any attention to the review about the unnecessary treatment plan or gift cards. That doesn't resonate with me or my friends that that I've recommended to this practice. Be a smart and logical person, and questions, if you don't understand something. These people are doctors. I've been going to Dr. Iqbal for years and trust her with my teeth and my life, no issues what so ever. Going to a dentist can be an unpleasant experience for some people, but the modern smiles team does a great job of making this as painless and easy an experience as possible. read more

I admittedly choice this place because it's only a block from my apt and boy did I make a mistake. I went what I thought was to be an exam cleaning and X-ray. I was told I needed a deep cleaning and wouldn't be cleaning my teeth. She presented me this list 7K of things to be done, lol. I paid $150 for her to say she wouldn't clean my teeth. The deep cleaning was a total of $1,200. I would not recommend this place to anyone. I'm staying at 1st Family Dental instead. read more

I had to move one of my appointments and the receptionist was able to get me in at an earlier time that's worked with my schedule. Dr. Shah is incredible. This is a review for wisdom teeth extraction. First, I gotta applaud my lovely dentists: Dr. Siddra Iqbal and Karla. I have had very traumatic experiences in the past with dentists but I gotta say these ladies are a breath of fresh air. They are the kindest, sweetest and very intelligent. It was Memorial Day and my tooth ache went from a 4 to a 10 in pain in days and the pain was driving me nuts. I spent the whole night calling these 24/7 dentists and it was a complete waste of time. Apparently there's no emergency dentists in Chicago. The next day I called modern smiles and it was like Karla felt my pain and immediately booked me to come in as soon as they could that same day. I arrived and the energy of the place alone helped me relax a bit. Karla was efficient and talked me through everything and answered every question. Dr. Iqbal then came in and explained the reason for my pain and what she would need to do. She helped me deal with pain until my extraction. I went in for the extraction and it was easy! Of course the recovery hurts a bit but Dr. Iqbal did such a wonderful job. She helped me remain calm and even though I cried and was shaking like a leaf, she helped me calm down and talked to me through any weird noises I heard or any pressure I felt. She was amazing. Dr. Iqbal and Karla were having a little conversation of their own and I personally really loved that because it made it seem like my procedure was no big deal and they could do that with their eyes closed. Keep reading if you are scared or anxious about going to a DDS and having a wisdom tooth extracted. I am 39 years old and not too fond of getting any dental work done, but I needed to get a wisdom tooth pulled that was in bad shape. My wife--bless her heart--found Dr. Iqbal and set an appointment for me. Dr. Iqbal and her kind staff took the time to talk to me about what would happen during the extraction and what I could expect to feel [spoiler alert, you are not going to feel anything :)]. I felt so much better knowing she understood what I was feeling and knew exactly what I needed to settle my nerves. They addressed my anxieties and put a plan in place to help me manage them on the day of the procedure. I was nervous but confident in Dr. Iqbal and her angel assistant Meghan on the procedure day. I was encouraged to wear my earbuds and watch something on my phone, so I queued up a 90-Day Fiancée. Dr. Iqbal and Megan put some cool glasses on me and numbed me with a topical before the injection. They both mentioned that the little pinch I barely felt would be the worst part of the extraction, and it was so minor I was shocked when they said, "Ok, that's it! How do you feel? Feel free to start watching a show, and we will check in on you in a few min to see how you are doing." I started my episode of 90-Day, and they started too. I was feeling comfortably numb, and my worry was beginning to subside. When Meghan and Dr. Iqbal returned, they reaffirmed the worst was over and ensured all my nerves were numb before proceeding. From the time of my injections to when I was on my feet, smiling was under 20 min [yes, smiling!]. I know this as I barely saw what Jibri was getting into before being told, "You did great, all done!". I could not believe it. I felt pressure when the tooth was extracted [to be expected], but the pressure is not a problem when you have zero pain. I feel compelled to write this review for others that may be scared like I was and put dental work off that we know we shouldn't. My recovery was better than I could have dreamed of! Follow the doctor's directions and the nice take-home sheet, and you will be back to 100% in a week or two. I had little to no pain at home, and my Zoom calls went on without an issue. I originally booked my appointment at Modern Smiles due to proximity -- I live in the neighborhood. The online booking process was very easy, and they followed up via email and text to conveniently get my intake and insurance information. I even made a mistake with my insurance, and they were super patient and understanding when fixing it. I applaud their kindness here, because I totally would've understood if they were more annoyed. The appointment itself was very comfortable and swift. They had to take a good amount of x-rays since I was a new patient, but they made me as comfortable as possible and did them quickly. The exam itself was quick and easy, and Dr. Shah talked me through a few points of concern and answered all the questions I had. They even let me schedule my cleaning for about one week later as I had to leave for work. The office is gorgeous, and the equipment is state of the art. The dental chair even had a back massager! I felt like I was in a luxury dental studio. Lastly, I felt completely safe in terms of Covid. The entire staff wore masks, they took my temperature, and they kept a safe distance when I had to take off my mask for the dental exam. I just recently became a patient at modern smiles, I was seeing Dr. Iqbal at her previous office for Invisalign and chose to continue my treatment with her at her new permanent location. The office is very clean, bright, and has a modern feel, the name is very fitting. The front desk was very friendly and texted me before my appointment to get my appointments confirmed and get my new patient information filled out prior to my visit so check in is very easy and you don't have to worry about showing up early to fill out paperwork. First of, per most people I assume .... I never enjoyed going to the dentist, after years of work that I was not happy with I decided to find a new place to have my teeth cleaned and worked on. (Two years since my last appt) My first appt was in July, went in and was already impressed by how nice the space was. They had me fill out all the forms before I came in through a text message link that easily brought me to a secure site to fill everything out (which makes everything easier and faster when you get to the office!) Dr. Rita is amazing she at my first check up helped me feel way more comfortable and less nervous about everything - well...... I after 2 years of not having a check up (Covid is mostly to blame) I had quite a few cavities and needed my first crown. (Ahhhhhhhh!!!!!!) but it was not that bad at all...... I had to go in weekly for the past couple months to have everything "fixed" and now I feel like they are part of my family! The work she does is truly art. Her team from the front desk to all of the techs are absolutely amazing, polite, and super friendly! I now have a bite guard to better protect my teeth, and I feel much much more knowledgeable about my dental care and routine (even tho my last dentist said I was "doing great") Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I finally feel taken care of by a team that doesn't do unnecessary work, or sub-par work. You will feel taken care of by everyone. Y'all are the best.
