Played the celebrity course this weekend and unfortunately the poor behavior from course marshals…read moreovershadowed what should have been a good group outing. We were stopped at the turn and told we had to skip two holes due to complaints from the group behind that we were holding up play. The group behind was our friends who hadn't complained or waited for us all day. Instead of a reasonable conversation, the marshal informed us that we obviously don't play much (I was 2 over) and we didn't have a choice. As we drove down the 10th, we could see the group behind still playing approach shots to the 9th, and the group behind that wasn't even on the 9th yet. He led us to the twelfth hole, where there was a backup and we waited for every shot for the remainder of the round. I've never encountered a course employee with this type of attitude, let alone expecting it when paying this much to play.

What stood out the most though was the incredibly helpful and friendly staff. I want to give a particularly big thank you to the director of food and beverage, Keith Sansone. He helped me with something that was incredibly gracious and kind of him, he went above and beyond what you'd expect from most golf resorts. There are many many properties out in the Palm Springs Palm Desert area. I've played at almost all of them. Desert Willow hands-down has the best team of people working and supporting their operations. And as anybody could probably tell you, kind, friendly, and attentive staff make all of the difference in having a mediocre experience or having an absolutely fantastic experience. Everyone was really nice and it seemed like a beautiful resort with so many things to do. I've definitely never been to a place where it had a giant pool and hotel connected to it before but cool idea. Huge parking lots, golf carts were nice and lots of employees everywhere. We thought we could escape the heat because we played at 6am but it was still scorching out hah.

We were celebrating our families' high school graduates with one foursome and one twosome teeing off at 11:40 on a 105 degree off season Friday. The Marshall approaches us and says he has to split us up because it "Looks bad on his GPS and he can tell we're not that good and we're going to slow the group down behind us." Only valid point he had is we should have played our twosome and foursome separately I guess. But we caught up to the group ahead of us so we weren't holding anyone up. Oh, and the high school grads were on the school golf team and made it to CIF Playoffs so I'm confused on who he thought wasn't that good? With a golf course on every corner in the desert, we won't be bringing our business back to this one.

Tennis courts and pickle ball courts, green areas for walking dogs, or having gatherings. Wonderful full-service restaurant, gym, rec-center, and activities galore. The course itself is demanding, lots of waste areas that you need to avoid. The conditions were good the day we played. The greens were excellent. I think that the clubhouse is under construction, along with other improvements. They were serving lunch and breakfast. Highly recommend the breakfast burrito. I would definitely come back and see how it develops.

The biggest issue was I was also charged $45 for a non-golfer rider--the same price I paid to actually play the round. The woman at the front desk told me it was because my rider would be "taking away a cart" from another golfer. The irony? I was sent out as a single, so there never was another golfer to share the cart with. Charging someone the full cost of a round based on a hypothetical situation that never even happened is a ridiculous policy and left a terrible first impression. To make matters worse, I passed two marshals sitting in their carts with their heads buried in their phones. They could have easily helped me locate a ball if they were paying attention to the hole they were sitting on. The bright spot was the cart staff. They were friendly, cleaned my clubs, and even offered extra water as we were leaving. They provided the best customer service of the day. It's a shame because the course itself is enjoyable and has a great layout, but the overall experience is let down by poor communication, questionable policies, and poor management. With better customer service and transparency, this could easily be a course I'd recommend. Right now, it's hard to justify coming back.

We just got finished playing the Palm Course this morning and for the life of me I cannot see how…read morethey can charge $119 to play this course. Had we known the condition of this course before we saw the first fairway and green, we would have definitely left and gone ANYWHERE else. The greens were in horrible shape with not just most of them but ALL of them were diseased and in terrible shape. The fairways were not much better with as much dirt as grass on them. TBH, I have played local muni's in the Inland Empire which are in much better shape and less than half the price. It's too bad because this used to be a prime golf destination. It appears to not the case anymore and will no longer be on my list.

The houses are incredibly impressive and VERY private. I feel fortunate that my husband knows someone who lives here. I never knew I could have a dream home in the Desert, but now I know that is a true scenario.
