My group of seven recently played at SilverRock Golf Course, and unfortunately, it was one of the worst golf course experiences we've had. We understood that we had to split into groups of four and three, and we did exactly that. At the first tee, we all hit our tee shots around the same time. Instead of politely reminding us of the course policy, the starter walked over very aggressively, began raising his voice, and repeatedly told us we needed to stay separated. He then started speaking in Spanish, which not everyone in our group understood, and kept asking us, "Do you understand?" in a very confrontational manner. We remained calm and respectful the entire time, but the way we were treated was completely unnecessary. Throughout the round, it felt like we were being followed and watched. The group of four ahead of us would occasionally slow down, so our group of three would catch up to say hello. Other times, we'd briefly gather at a tee box while waiting for the fairway to clear. We were never holding up play. In fact, when we noticed groups behind us, we even skipped holes at times to keep the pace moving. Despite this, the marshal repeatedly came over and aggressively told us to separate. Every interaction felt hostile rather than helpful. The final incident was the most disappointing. On the last hole, the course was nearly empty because of the heat. There was no one behind us, and we weren't delaying anyone. Yet the marshal drove up again, yelling that this was the "third time" he had warned us about being together. There was simply no reason for that level of aggression. I've played many golf courses over the years, and I've never experienced staff behaving this way. Course policies are understandable, but they should be enforced with professionalism and respect. Unfortunately, the treatment we received from both the starter and the marshal completely ruined what should have been an enjoyable day with friends. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend SilverRock Golf Course. read more

SilverRock Golf Resort - A hole on the green - Golf Near Me - La Quinta, California

This course is set in an area with lots of elevation changes and some mountains. You can even see mountain goats on some of the peaks, very cool! The course itself is demanding, lots of waste areas that you need to avoid. The conditions were good the day we played. The greens were excellent. I think that the clubhouse is under construction, along with other improvements. They were serving lunch and breakfast. Highly recommend the breakfast burrito. I would definitely come back and see how it develops. read more

It's a beautiful course with some imaginative holes. Also I saw a ram up close and personal. The course is challenging but reasonable and it's well kept. What bothered me is all of the buildings surrounding the course are essentially under construction. I asked my playing partner about it. They said it was a real estate deal gone bad. A developer ran out of money and so all of these bare wood framed homes that are first stage of construction are just sitting there falling into disrepair. It really brings down the vibe. I think $150 is maybe just a bit more than I wanna pay to play that course again. Still it is a nice course to be clear. read more

SilverRock has the layout and potential to be a fantastic golf course, which makes the poor management even more disappointing. The biggest issue was I was also charged $45 for a non-golfer rider--the same price I paid to actually play the round. The woman at the front desk told me it was because my rider would be "taking away a cart" from another golfer. The irony? I was sent out as a single, so there never was another golfer to share the cart with. Charging someone the full cost of a round based on a hypothetical situation that never even happened is a ridiculous policy and left a terrible first impression. To make matters worse, I passed two marshals sitting in their carts with their heads buried in their phones. They could have easily helped me locate a ball if they were paying attention to the hole they were sitting on. The bright spot was the cart staff. They were friendly, cleaned my clubs, and even offered extra water as we were leaving. They provided the best customer service of the day. It's a shame because the course itself is enjoyable and has a great layout, but the overall experience is let down by poor communication, questionable policies, and poor management. With better customer service and transparency, this could easily be a course I'd recommend. Right now, it's hard to justify coming back. read more

I called ahead to verify if the rumors were correct about how bad this course had declined. Spoke with Claudia who informed me it was in "excellent" shape. It was not. The beauty of the course, and I've played it several times in the past decade, is completely ruined by all the recent home construction which has obviously been left derelict for a year or more. Literally rotting frames of what look to be small homes or condos. Such an eyesore. The course is not well maintained except maybe the fairways on back nine. Greens are burned out everywhere. Ball marks everywhere on the greens (this is more on the customer than maintenance...but no one is even trying to clean up the mess obviously). Tee boxes haven't had a divot filled yet n weeks. As a well travelled golfer I expect a heads up when greens have been punched and sanded before I book a tee time...especially when I take the time to call and ask about conditions. Shame on you for wasting my time and money. I recommended this course to my friends who drive six hours for a weekend of golf. Almost $600 for a foursome at 2:30 in the afternoon. So sad to see the course struggling to provide value to paying customers or even preparing them for the disaster they are about to encounter. And to top it off some lazy marshal dropped by to ask us to play the front 9 again since it was playing so slow (5 1/2 hours round)...what golfer would chose to not play all 18 holes. Idiot. I agree with everything the writer said who posted in March 2026. The greens in fact did have numerous burned out spots. Three days prior to playing Silver rock I played two other nearby courses that were in much better condition than SilverRock, at a lower price point. The one thing I'll add that the reviewer did not , was that the bunkers were also in poor condition. In one bunker, you hit a shot only to discover the sand was only half an inch deep with hard ground underneath. Another bunker would have an acceptable 3 to 4 inches of sand. A lot of neglect on this course, and I also called ahead to ask about the conditions of the course and was told that they were excellent. Will not play here again and would discourage others from playing here. read more

Went there for lunch. The waiter was on top of everything. Food was delicious. We were able to stay past our lunch without any problems.

Really bad course. It's in awful shape and for $120 there are so many better options in the desert. The greens were absolutely baked out dead, fairways were okay but most greens were destroyed with fungus or something. We were told on hole 16 that they are tearing out all the grass on the back nine. Never got a discount either. The design itself is terrible. Tons of blind shots and weird layups. Nice course nestled on the side of the mountains. The day started with a frost delay, of which we received an email letting us know, but by our 11am-ish tee time, they were caught up. I played from the greens which were not the most forward tees. The greens were around 5000 yards which was a good distance. Reds were around 4800 yds. Lots of sand and desert terrain to create challenges for you. Oh, and water water water. There is a canal and lake that seems to find you on a good number of holes. I thought we were in a desert! I lost a few balls. I should mention, there is quite a bit of construction going on. The club house is basically a double-wide. Carts are stored in temp shelters. No construction on the course but it's quite prevalent when you drive up. What I assume is the new clubhouse being built looks like it will be great. The course was in good condition. The staff was friendly and helpful. We had a good time and one person in our group even got an eagle on hole 15! read more

I'm not someone who writes Yelp reviews, and I'm only posting this because my attempt to share this feedback directly with the course was completely ignored. I came out from San Diego specifically to play SilverRock on December 30th, revisiting a course I remembered fondly from my junior golf days. Unfortunately, the experience didn't come close to matching the reputation or price point. My group booked and played as a threesome, and we were paired with a fourth golfer -- which I completely understand during a busy holiday week. That wasn't the issue. What was surprising (and frankly unacceptable) was being told by the starter that I would be required to share a golf cart with the fourth player. When I questioned it, I was brushed off with a comment about how many golfers were out that day, which felt dismissive and unprofessional. The golfer we were paired with was a very kind man in his 80s who struggled significantly with mobility, vision, and pace of play. I don't fault him at all. However, forcing us to share a cart in this situation turned the round into supervising rather than actually playing, with frequent stops and ball searches on nearly every hole. I didn't feel comfortable saying anything in the moment because I didn't want to offend someone I was paired with for four hours. What made this even more frustrating is that mid-round, after creating this situation, our group was asked to speed up play. Being told to play faster after being forced to share a cart -- instead of allowing the fourth golfer to manage his own pace with his own cart -- was frustrating and unfair. Between the forced cart sharing, the slow pace of play, and then being pressured to speed up because of it, the experience fell far short of what I expect from a course of this caliber. This was especially disappointing given how excited I was to return after so many years. After the round, I reached out to the course directly to share this feedback respectfully and give them a chance to respond or make it right. I never heard back. No acknowledgment, no follow-up -- nothing. SilverRock may still have a great layout, but customer experience clearly isn't a priority. At this price point, there are too many other excellent desert courses that handle these situations better. Unfortunately, this visit was enough to make me think twice about returning or recommending it. read more

Beautiful course but we were sent off 10 min late then hassled by the Marshall on the 3rd hole to speed up. Then followed us for 3 more holes. We aren't professional golfers yet still finished our round in 4hrs while having to wait for the group in front of us after we caught up with them. On my recent golf trip to Palm desert area this course was probably in the worst condition out of the five courses I played. Compared to Classic Club and Indian wells this course had many more dry spots and patches on the greens. Overall though it was still in playable condition. Front 9 is definitely not as picturesque as the back. Makeshift clubhouse due to construction is a little odd but it is what it is. Only played here because of a golf now deal for $100 a player on the weekend. Probably would've avoided it if I had to pay the regular $130 weekend tee time. read more

SilverRock Golf Resort - Hole 11 - Golf Near Me - La Quinta, California

Absolutely awesome golf course! Palmer designs are the absolute best. Arnie gives you a few ho-hum holes to warm up on, and then the real golf starts. I'm very familiar with Palmer designs, and I love them because everyone can have fun on them. Arnie usually gives you big, wide fairways, so even if you can't hit the ball straight, you'll often find it and have a chance for recovery or a shot to the green. Some of the forced carries look impossible, but that's all part of the genius of Palmer designs. On some holes, we stood on the tee box for a while, awe-inspired, trying to figure out how to play the hole properly. That's what's great about Palmer designs, Arnie doesn't punish you for a good shot like Nicklaus. The staff were all friendly and helpful, and the course played quickly. On the fairway of hole #1, David, the course marshal, came over after we discovered we can't drive in the waste areas and thought we were in trouble, but in a very friendly way, he gave us as much information as he could about the course. We saw him several more times, and he'd stop to ask if everything was okay, what we thought of the course, and if we needed anything. I'm a 2.3 and my playing partner was a novice (25+) and we both had a great time. Now that I think about it, my playing partner has a big fade, surprise, I know, and he was never prevented from playing it and if he (accidentally) hit it straight he was still in play. Also, the greens are a little less complex than they look. I was over-reading them by just a few inches. That's genius golf course design! Finally, although I didn't make a single birdie putt all day, I went home with a big smile on my face and I'm looking forward to going back soon. read more

My buddies and I played a round SilverRock during our annual destination golf trip. Overall, we really enjoyed the track and it's unique layout. The construction around the course really didn't bother us. Hopefully the project gets completed. The only issue we had was with the starter. Guy was the epitome of an asshole. We were slated to have ten guys but unfortunately four of them had to drop out of the trip last minute. So we arrived at SilverRock with six golfers. Keep in mind, those guys didn't get a refund. So the courses and travel agency received their money for ten golfers. Upon arrival at the first tee, the starter really gave us a hard time for not arriving with 10 guys. Initially, he almost seemed hesitant to allow us to play. He didn't even provide us with the "things to know" about the course, which is common for starters. His attitude was very off-putting and really started our round off on a bad note. We played Indian Wells Celebrity Course and PGA West Stadium course the prior two day (which are superior courses, respectfully) and they had no issue with us not having our full group. Again, we really enjoyed the course and rest of the staff, but the starter needs to be reviewed and understand the importance of customer service. read more

After three years, we finally signed up for the City of La Quinta resident card. The cost was $150.00 each for three years, which is a great deal. The fee entitles the user to discount golf at the resort. You do need to prove residency. You need to present a driver license with a local address on it or a property tax and utility bill with a local address and your name listed on the bills (check website for further details). The entrance to Silver Rock Golf Resort is beautiful. Much of the resort is still being developed, but the golf course is complete. The employee who assisted us with signing up was professional, but not overly friendly or welcoming. Hopefully, the service will be better when we actually use the resort in the future. I would give this place another shot: Not a great value for what you receive. The staff (with the exception of the grill and the cart girl) were super unfriendly and rude. The landscapers including mowers were going every hole for the first 9 holes and didn't even bother stopping while we were hitting. Not a relaxing atmosphere at all plus all of the buildings surrounding the course are under construction so you have that noise as well. read more

It should not be called a Resort. It looks and plays more like a dump. Weeds in the greens and bunkers, lots of burned out grass around the greens. Poorly marked cart paths and no course management. read more

We showed early to warm up and were repeatedly called to the first tee box. We went over and were told we go now or we would be delayed 20 min past our scheduled tee time the the group before us showed up late. Not sure why we would be rescheduled because someone else did not honor their tee time so we went. Customer service is very much lacking and the course should honor scheduled tee times! The course was pretty challenging but will definitely not return due to staff (starter). I even heard him complaining to the group behind us that we were unhappy! Perhaps he should retire or find another job. There are a lot of better options in this wonderful area! read more

Such a beautiful golf course...the mountains that surround the greens is really picturesque. The course was really well maintained and they have a great warm up/practice area including range, and short game area. We only got told one time to pick up the pace by the Marshall...and technically the group in front of us wasn't out of range yet! We had a great time....lost some balls in the water but overall great time! read more

What a beautiful course. Well manicured and maintained and not a maintenance worker in sight. It's hard to believe this is a public course. Grass for the driving range and it's included in the price for your green fees. The course is challenging enough for a low handicap player and has enough tee boxes for a newer golfer to enjoy as well. I wanted so bad to like this course s especially since the internet sites show it as one of the top courses in the desert. I can't say to much about the course although a few holes seemed to be jammed in at the last minute. For me the low rating is the staff and overall vibe. The staff were self absorbed and elitist. I guess maybe that is good for the type of golfers. A lot of older crew and all in a hurry. We played in 3:50 and were rushed the whole time. I simply wouldn't come back here, save you money and go where people are happy to have you. read more

We were looking to play a new course and narrowed it down to two that appeared to be gems. Unfortunately we chose this one. We were here during the holidays and were looking forward to getting our spirit on, on the links, and beyond. "Not so fast my friend"... PACE OF PLAY is a major concern for the marshalls here and even when you are not the cause of it they come and tell you five times that they got the slow group in front of you to step on it so now they expect you to "gun it" and accelerate your play to chase them like Tom did Jerry. I was having a great first 6 holes, but after the constant stoppages via polite visits by the marshalls I started to become annoyed and got mental about my game and how much I was paying to have marshalls join me on our round. At least they were keeping it classy with the constant reminders to "keep up the pace" and "have a great time" they kept uttering. Sure we will...as I feel like thanking them for very clearly reminding us via their actions that it is not 1980 and there will be no tasty lunch at the turn and we are most definitely playing golf in the Tech Age where impatient pukes are prolific. I'm not really sure how we were supposed to enjoy our round with two marshalls on our bag, but sure. I wish I hadn't let it affect my game, but I did not see it coming at the rates we were paying so I guess I let the unexpected get to me. It's alright, but not worth the green fees given the current conditions. FAIRWAYS show a lot of play via divots and many are much more yellow than green. This is not summertime. They are in the process of building various casita type buildings for adding a resort hotel to the property. As a result, there are chain link fences and many things not aesthetically pleasing to the eye like a portable clubhouse. If they discounted the rate for these shortcomings I didn't see it reflected in my wallet. GREENS were spotty and patchy like a male who drew the genetic shaft on his mom's side with some next level thinning on top. There is a good amount of water on the course if you enjoy that. The wife does so she was pleased with that aspect. The layout is pretty good, but not remarkable or super noteworthy and we have played a ton of courses in LA, OC, SD, NoCal, Palm Springs, the East Coast and been actively playing the sport for over 10 years. I won't come back here given the above as there are way too many options in the area to settle. read more

I brought 7 friends that flew in for our annual golf outing over to the course to play as it has been in our 3 course rotation for the last few years. I live here and have played SilverRock dozens of times and must say that the course was in the worst condition that I have personally ever seen. Both the fairways and bunkers were more mud than grass, and the bunkers had very little sand and were also mostly mud. I don't know what's happened to the grass but we all had to play improved lies on some of the fairways just so we could find grass to play from. And even in that condition the green fees were not adjusted and everyone feels like they threw a day of golf and a lot of money away. Not great for return business I'm afraid. Sadly the group wants to take the course out of the rotation for next year. The highlight of the course were the greens. They were fast and true as always. The staff, cart crew and grill team were all fantastic as usual. I love the people that work there as they are always polite and friendly. The grill room was also very nice to our group and everyone enjoyed a couple of cold beers after a tough and frustrating round of golf. My wife and I eat at the grill room fairly often and the food is always great. But at the end of the day we're all golfers and despite the great people and cold beer the course was definitely in pretty rough shape and in the Coachella Valley where there is an abundance of great golf, SilverRock needs to pick up their game or lower their prices. In closing I have to say that I love this course as it challenges every part of your game and will continue to play here in the future, but it may be time to give it a break and let the course find it's way back to it usual great self!! read more

I played a round of golf with my family on thanksgiving morning. The staff we encountered had a smile on their face from the moment we entered the parking lot at the pro shop. We had a great experience on the course as well and all the Marshalls were super friendly. I ended up leaving a club at the driving range and asked one of the Marshalls, Tom if anyone had turned it in. He went out of his way to locate the club and bring it to me just in time on the 7th hole. Tom went above and beyond to bring me my lost club on the course and had checked in with us multiple times throughout us playing. He had great jokes We visited silver rock grill at the 8th hole and the entire staff was so friendly and made sure we had a great experience quickly to continue on to the course. I believe the friendly staff made our day so much brighter. Working on a holiday is tough but everyone was happy and helpful. read more

Updating review after reading Randy's response. Randy--I appreciate your thoughtful responses to all of the negative reviews, including mine. However, we've played four other courses this week and not one of them are suffering from the agronomy issues that you speak of and charged less. (Classic Club, Desert Willow Mountain View, Shadow Ridge and JW Marriott). I appreciate the offer to make things right. I'll reach out. What an utter disappointment. This course is in such bad shape, they should be embarrassed to have golfers playing on it, let alone charging $75. That is outright taking advantage of people. Have more respect for your course and your patrons. We almost stopped at nine and requested our money back. I wish we had. The fairways were not in great shape and way over watered. I understand they need to water in this heat, but the need to lift , clean and place and sometimes plug? The greens were a joke. Almost every green has areas with no grass as well as large areas with patches of replacement grass. We visit the desert every year and usually play this course every time. After today, it's officially out of the rotation. read more

I made a reservation to play the course last week with an out of town friend. I called the Pro Shop beforehand to inquire about rental clubs for my friend. I was quoted a price of $75 and told that that the price included two sleeves of balls. When we arrived at the course to check in, the guy in the pro shop informed us that they were no longer giving balls with the rental clubs. I told him that I had called earlier in the week and was informed then of the free balls. He said I probably spoke with someone at the answering service and that they weren't aware of the change. $240 for greens fees and club rentals and they were unwilling to provide two sleeves of balls that they had promised. The course itself is nice. They were enforcing cart path only (I was made aware of this when I made the reservation) which made it a bit more challenging to play. I would sometimes get to my ball and find I had the wrong club, and my cart could be 75 yards away. At the end of our round, I asked the guys with the carts for a ride up the hill to the grill where our wives were waiting. I was told we could get a ride. We waited for a bit and nobody moved to get a cart. I asked again and was told a shuttle would pick us up. We waited a bit more and realized there was no shuttle. So we walked up the hill. Right past the four guys waiting for incoming carts who were busily snapping each other with their towels. It's a nice course, but they seem to have lost sight of the fact that they are also a service industry. I gave this a three star rating because the course is nice and the practice area is good. But the service levels are really lacking. There are a lot of nice courses in Palm Springs. I think I will be playing somewhere else the next time I visit. read more

However, a lack careful maintenance on the greens left us playing on burnt and scared surfaces which ruined an otherwise pleasant outing. Come on man. This should be one of the areas premier courses. Its location hard up against the mountains is top notch. BUT...having the course changed and rerouted, having seemingly never ending hotel and home construction (which is once again on hold), having a temporary clubhouse housed in a trailer (for the last 4+ years) and having a never ending series of developers going bankrupt make it hard to give this course anything more than three stars. This course has been torn up, rerouted doesn't have a Pro Shop worth mentioning and just doesn't compare to what's available in the area! It's a shame!! The golf course itself has a number of nice holes, too many blind holes and is overly difficult when you consider the demographics of the Palm Springs area. I am a 11 handicap and have played many of the areas finest courses. This simply does not compare. Nearly every hole has the same design feature...massive bunkers! They are either 30+ yards in length or too tall to see out of. Either way the avergae golfer will find himself still in the trap for 2,3 or more shots. The result. Slow rounds, lack of fun and a boring sense of why every hole has the same features. Throw in the redesigned holes ( that ruined the original layout to make room the the still non-existent hotel), blind tee shots, not coming back to the non-existent clubhouse after nine and the driving range being 1/4 mile away from the trailer this is not anywhere near a first class experience! In my humble opinion as a former golf course reviewer, Silverrock would be best served by tearing up a large portion of the course and starting over from scratch. And don't do it until you have a first class clubhouse, range and restaurant in place. This site deserves FAR BETTER and so do the people of La Quinta and the surrounding area. The City of La Quinta should be ashamed of the never ending failures of their chosen developers and for wasting nearly 10 years on this amazing site!!! read more
