Similar in theme to other 1-star reviews, Jerry/Stone Expo failed to deliver on what was promised or even follow through at all. A promised 3-week project turned into 3 months and the requirement for me to find a new contractor to finish what Jerry started. We had many quality issues: e.g. bathroom mirrors installed too low, stair walls horribly marred (and not repainted), brand new closet door that sticks, house unprotected during construction and left a mess, bathrooms requiring re-painting and sink replacement due to worker (mis)use, toilet ruined due to being used for paint disposal, crooked and missing drawer handles and towel bar, cabinet nicks, etc. Worse, due to Jerry not following up (i.e. ghosting), I had to repurchase a significant number of new materials that Jerry was supposed to have purchased and deliver which he did not requiring me to take legal action which resulted in recovering only 74% of what I was owed despite Jerry agreeing to reimburse me fully (in writing). read more

Jerry Nalbancian is good at 2 things: 1-being a convincing salesman and 2-lying to the customer After requiring a $1,215 down payment in cash and then calling for the balance of $1,000 telling me the job was ready to be installed, I did not see his workers for almost 2 months. Stone Expo finally arrived with the wrong sized sinks, mis-cut stone with a gouge in it, and a pile of pathetic excuses. Plumbing was connected for one sink in the guest bathroom, but not the other bathroom, leaving the Master Bathroom with no useable sink since water was not connected. Jerry was contracting outside of his license, which limits his contracts to only tile work. ( He is NOT licensed for cabinets, plumbing and a lot of work he takes on without permit.) Jerry has had numerous warnings from the CA State Contractors License Board and is now being investigated for elder abuse and other violations. After waiting nearly a year for him to come back and do the job correctly and finish the job, I finally hired a different contractor to rip out Stone Expo's mess and haul it to the dump a year after signing and paying Jerry in full to do the job. The New contractor had to start all over again and with the increase in prices during COVID I now had to pay for the damage to my drywall from missing backsplashes in one bathroom and the expense of hauling Jerry's mess to the dump, in addition to the increased cost of stone and labor between 2021 and 2022. Ever hiring Stone Expo was a big mistake I wish I could forget. For you own peace of mind, I suggest using someone else. ( Note: I had posted a previous very honest review with photographs ,but Jerry Nalbancian was able to get that 1 star review removed in January 2022. I am sure there are many more derogatory reviews he has been able to get removed from here, since mine was removed in January 2022. Stone Expo's installers are artisans! My outdated kitchen countertops had multiple levels and corners. They painstaking cut every edge for a custom fit. The windowsill ledges topped off the look and created a perfect balance with the existing cabinets. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me! Our last project included wood flooring. We purchased the flooring and had 3 boxes left over. Jerry said we could get credit for this. 18 months later, and multiple emails and messages, and I never got credit. I thought I would give him another chance with the counter top on this project and maybe get that credit applied to this job. I got a verbal quote, he said he would email the quote "right now", that was two weeks ago, never got it. Found this company on Home Advisor and they were willing to come right away and take our sink and counter top back to their shop to prepare it. They brought it back for install just a few days later, arrived right on time with a text for confirmation. Very professional, polite, understandable, neat and communicative. Their quote was surprising reasonable. They laid a drop cloth for traffic mess, cleaned everything up perfectly and wore masks at all times. They were in and out inside 2hrs. If I could give zero stars I would. I had to have surgery. The day I was having surgery they came to finish the backsplash. After they finished, they asked my daughter for payment. My daughter was in a hurry to get to the hospital and paid them without checking everything. They took advantage of the situation. When I got home from the hospital, I noticed the holes around the switches and plugs were not big enough. The backsplash went behind the bench where the kitchen nook is and I couldn't open the top of the bench. They used the wrong grout. The grout was supposed to be a self sealing grout and they used a cheap non self sealing grout.The walls were filthy dirty and the grout was not sealed. They also damaged the bench. I contacted Jerry and he said he would send them out to make the corrections. nobody has shown up and I've tried calling and texting Jerry several times. It's been almost a month with no results. If he continues to be nonresponsive, my only recourse will be to sue in small claims court. read more

Stone Expo installed a large kitchen island (9 ft quartz countertop and 6 under cabinets) in July 2022. The quartz and the cabinets seem to be of good quality. However, the workmanship of the installation was of poor quality. The follow up by Jerry the owner is basically non existent. The island is crooked and does not align with the floor or the room. The side panel and kickplate are not nailed properly. Also one panel was cut with a rough jagged edge exposed and not stained. The underside of the countertop has adhesive residue causing sharp edges. All of these issues were brought to Jerry's attention. He said he would fix things. After 9 months and over 30 texts, phone calls and face to face meetings in his office nothing has been resolved. He does not return calls and when confronted in person he smiles and says he will take care of it. Buyer beware of Stone Expo. read more

I wanted to remodel my kitchen and never could because it's so expensive. When I finished remodeling my bathroom, I decided now I can get quotes for kitchen. I was referred to Stone Expo by a friend, called them and got appointment with Jerry. I wanted remove/Install new quartz countertops; replace kitchen tile for stone and put up backsplash. I gave a good size kitchen and Jerry gave me a good quote, doable and it included all the above plus he also offered plumbing which would be charged separately to disconnect all appliances and reconnect them. Note: plumber Raul Ledesma was very rude and demanded cash or check payments for plumber labor. Make sure you get detailed quote in writing so there is no misunderstanding on how much he costs. Quoted $490 to disconnect and reconnect stove, microwave, fridge, D/W and sink = $490! He broke my sink pipes while removing old sink then comes back saying we owed him $590 for parts! When my/f refuse he caused a scene and kept saying write another check!! Installation: There was a few hiccups with quartz not matching and a few design issues on counter, but they got it corrected and all Installed in a week, one day ahead of schedule. Believe it! I quoted within HD and other companies quoted 6-8 weeks and maybe get it done before Christmas. Update: 11/12/18- so Jerry's crew broke a transfer wood that matching my wood flooring, called and called and texted Jerry several time asking when it would be replaced; to date, no replacement ! Started out as a good experience. Friendly and seemingly helpful but the cabinets they installed did not match what was discussed. They are basically sales people who take orders and sub out the work. They do not take responsibility for subs mistakes. They did not even install all the pulls/knobs on cabinets. For a couple months I tried to work with them in good faith. They strung me along saying they would take care of it "next week" or "I will call you back". Then just started ignoring calls and texts. Never anyone in showroom to address unless you have appt. but since they do not answer the phone, you can't make appt. I know better and usually do not pay until all work is complete. However, when he said it would take a day or two for the estimate i didn't have a problem with that. But, a week went by never heard from him. Where to start? The guys at Stone Expo just finished up the third house we've had them do work on. One in 2001(redo kitchen countertops to granite), another in 2006 (install beautiful travertine and marble floor), and our largest project yet in 2015 (quartz in kitchen, new wood-look tile floors through whole house, and redo 4 bathrooms!!!). So they've been in business a long time. The quality & cleanliness of work is excellent. Jerry is very helpful with design plans if you just give him an idea of what you're looking for. Stone expo Jerry the owner did not take my concern seriously about the toilet in the master having slow leak from the first day that was installed. Tile man installed the toilet not the plumber. The job was so bad. The tile was installed over the toilet bowl gasket. I didn't inspect everything. I feel that they supposed to do a good job. A lot of money invested. Jerry laugh when I spoke with him about the problem. I know is been 5 years but if they had done a good job from the beginning I couldn't had one of the main beams of my house to get rotten. read more

We used Stone Expo for kitchen and bath remodel. Rating 3 stars because the price and quality of materials and work was good. However there were a lot of delays and in the end the kitchen was not finished as promised. The microwave was supposed to be in a cabinet with matching trim and is on an open shelf that sticks out from the wall. It looks bad and ruins the entire look of the kitchen. We were told this would be fixed but that was several months ago and Jerry is not responding our texts. So now we need to find a carpenter to fix it. We had Jerry and his team replace our counter with a granite slab in our kitchen and powder room. The powder room looks fine and we wish that was all we had them do. In the kitchen we have three electrical outlets that were cut too small and the sink was not aligned correctly. We also have a window in the kitchen that can never be replaced, as the sill they put in blocks any chance of removing the window in the future. They also didn't do the clean up of the job that we expected. Left their mess for us to clean up. They broke a mirror in the kitchen and then left it in our courtyard rather than hauling it away. We have tried repeatedly to contact Jerry and he seems to be too busy to call us back or stop by. Not what I would have expected from someone with the kind of ratings I saw on Home Advisor. Makes me question whether they can hide bad reviews. If you look at the Yelp reviews for these guys they are either great or horrible. No middle ground. I wouldn't recommend these guys just due to the lack of response from the owner. Update: Jerry and team did fix the issues we had with their workmanship, cleaned up the mess they left and replaced the broken mirror. We are pleased with the end result, but the journey to this point was less than desirable. I changed the original one star review to two stars. read more

Please save your hard earned money and do not use these guys. We just had a quartz counter installed and there is a laundry list of issues. 1. In 2 locations we have a seam where two prices of the counter connect. The colors of the Quartz is not the same and is completely visible in the middle of the counter. One section is darker making it look like two different materials. 2. They presented two sink options and suggested we go with the more expensive farmhouse style sink. After all the measuring and then installation - there was a major mistake in measurements and now one of kitchen drawers will not fit or if it did fit back in somehow would never be able to open because it can't get past the new beautiful sink. 3. In several locations the counter was installed with scratches and in 3 locations black marks that they tried to buff out but could not and remain very visible. 4. New sink installed with several scratches in the sink basin 5. They cut and installed 50% of a Quartz backsplash we did not order. Then pulled it off the wall leaving large sections of adhesive on the wall . 7.Freshly refinished pantry/ cabinet scratched in several locations. 8. Quartz area that butts up against stove is an unfinished edge and cut short - creating a gap you can see into the side of the unfinished area of the kitchen cabinets. Others things that are fixable but could have been explained : A. you will need to repaint the kitchen cabinets right underneath the counter because the front will not come down as low. B. If you have vinyl Windows in your kitchen you will need to replace vinyl trim because during demolition and installation of new counter the trim will be destroyed. To be fair, stone expo fabricated a new counter and installed it today and now the colors on the pieces match as "best" as it can. And, the slab doesn't have any black marks. However, the fix for them miss measuring the sink and drawer not fitting was to take the face of the drawer and screw it to the cabinets = we lost a drawer in a key location and is more than janky. All other issues still present and ignored by company. The people were nice. But the quality, attention to detail and work is simply not good. read more

I am giving this two starts only because the finished product was satisfactory. After paying the deposit it took 6 weeks longer than quoted to get them out to install. When we called them to try to arrange the appointment and find out what was going on, their attitude was that our project was "just a small job". Well since the couple thousand dollars I spent with them was so insignificant, I wont be returning. When they finally came out and installed our counter tops the sink cut outs were not square to the counter nor were they correctly centered over the vanity cabinets. Additionally the faucet holes were not centered on the sinks. I told the installer that the quality of craftsmanship was unacceptable and that the sinks needed to be centered and squared up. When I measured it out, I showed him that they were out of square by 1/4" and off center by 1/2". I additionally showed him that the faucet holes were off center on one vanity by 7/8". He told me that all the pieces are cut on a water jet and that their tolerance was 1/8". He removed the counter tops, re-cut the front edge of the sinks BY HAND (not straight!) and re-installed them. I again told him it was unacceptable. He shrugged at me and left. Jerry came out to my house that night to assess the problem. He told me that their countertops are cut by hand and that their tolerance is 1/4" per linear foot. This means if you have a 5 foot counter top, it could be off by as much as 1.25 inches!! Someone was lying to me and I am pretty sure it was Jerry. He argued with me for an hour, and said I was being too picky, however when I asked if he would accept that quality of work in his own home he refused to answer me (I asked several times). Jerry eventually agreed to replace one out of the two vanities. The replacement vanity was perfect (within 1/64" square and center using a digital caliper!!) He did not, however, replace the dual vanity counter top in the other bathroom which still has crooked sink cut outs that are not perfectly centered. With everything installed (faucets etc), it is not terribly noticeable, but I am an engineer and a perfectionist who knows how to do something correctly and the vanity bothers me daily. I will give them some credit for replacing the one vanity which had serious problems (It was also not installed level the first time!) and for doing an OK job on the rest, however I would NEVER do business with stone expo again. From having to instruct the installers how to properly mount the sinks, to ending up with crooked cut outs and off center faucets, stone expo is definitely Sub-Par. I would question the 5 star reviews. They are likely people who do not have an eye for quality and craftsmanship. If you are particular about how your home looks and have an eye for detail, Stone Expo is not for you. If you can tolerate crooked things, give them a shot, their prices are decent. read more

I was notified that after a thorough investigation, the Contractors State Licensing Board issued Stone Expo a citation in response to my complaint. Read the negative reviews, especially the hidden ones, and see all the problems others have had. Due to the extent of damage Stone Expo caused and Jerry's abandonment of the job after damaging the house, we had no useable kitchen for over 6 months and had to eat ALL meals out !!!
