I've tried the sweet cream, strawberry, callebut chocolate, and Maine blueberry. Sweet cream was solid. The strawberry is unique - seems to have very high strawberry content, so it ends up almost tasting like an ice cream-sorbet hybrid in comparison to say Haagez Dazs which is more cream-forward. The chocolate was also great. I was hoping that the Maine blueberry would essentially taste like a black raspberry ice cream but it just tasted like blueberry, which I suppose should come as no surprise. It was a little too sweet and not my favorite but maybe true blueberry-lovers would like it. I read a bit online about how they don't do samples in order to keep costs down and also keep people moving in and out of the shop quickly. It's an interesting model but ultimately it feels like they are prioritizing saving marginal costs at the expense of the experience of the customer. Maybe they save tens of thousands of disposable spoons by doing this, but when it comes to a person's individual experience in the store wanting to optimize getting a flavor they like, that gets sacrificed. Sort of opposite of customer-first. Some of their flavors are also pretty unique like lemon poppy seed with a jam mixed in and it's hard to anticipate what that'll be like. I also think a homemade waffle cone as opposed to the bought ones they have available would be a major upgrade here. Overall, great ice cream with a few things that could be better.

I wasn't sure about the shaved ice and ice cream combo, but my gosh, I was blown away. We tried the coffee/caramel combo which had superb coffee flavor, but the Creamsicle was our favorite with raspberry syrup. We went back four times during our three day stay. That's how amazing it was. And the owners are simply wonderful people. Happy to chat with you and eager to make your experience five stars. Crowds move quickly through and the vibes of the shop are very tropical, upbeat and welcoming. The staff were friendly and super helpful, especially since the options are overwhelming. Next time we visit Portland we will definitely be back. If you haven't tried this little shop, give it a try. Wonderful!!

I just don't think…read moreit does; if you've ever used Ocean Ave to get from Forest to Washington, chances are you've seen the small white building with colorful, albeit limited signage offering up ice cream. Lived in Portland for years and never had a reason to come here when there's so many other (glamorous) options, but now living so close I just think this spot is super, duper charming. Yes, the prices are higher than at other places and I'm not entirely sure why, but this doesn't really bother me because the portions have always been enormous here, it's super convenient to where I live, there's never a wait, the staff is accommodating about wacky requests, they take credit cards, and the customer service is sometimes above and beyond what's becoming the norm downtown (I showed up once a few minutes after they had closed for the night, but they still let us order giant sundaes anyway!). They serve stuff from The Ice Cream Machine (out of Rhode Island, and distributed by Sysco) so it's not homemade or local even - I don't think it's the most delicious ice cream in the world, but it gets the job done and sometimes that's all you need (side note: their sundaes are awesome here; they know how to pour. on. the. hot. fudge!). Do I think this is a destination spot? Absolutely not. Is it ever going to make it on some national "Best of..." list that will drive hoards of people to it? Nope. Will I seek it out when I move away from the neighborhood? Can't say that I will. But is it a perfect spot for those Back Cove/The Pocket folks within walking distance? Yep. It's nice that in the state's biggest, busiest, trendiest city there are still places you can safely, quietly walk to get some ice cream with your family and enjoy it in a pristine park across the street only locals really know about.

I just paid $9.13 for the smallest, medium ice cream I have ever been served AND by the most SMUG young ladies. I understand you can't give the house away, but the cost of the ice cream, the outrageous up-charge for sprinkles, the $.20 for the extra dish came to $9.13. It was my choice to leave the extra change as tip.... In total..... $10.00. I've seen child size ice creams larger than what I was served. Going forward, I will be taking my business to other local shops, like Sammy's Scoops or Twisted Swirls. Local businesses that truly appreciate my patronage. Gross Confection recently announced on social media they would be shutting down the bar/desserts service while remaining open as a bakery. My wife and I came here many a times for an end cap to the night for one last drink and delicious and beautifully made desserts. From times in their dimly lit space that gave off romantic vibes or even enjoying our desserts in the summer sun outside people watching, every time will be remembered. Timing worked out well and we were doing a staycation in Portland and knew we needed to add a stop here one last time. Thankfully we got our names in on the waiting list early enough Friday and got sat as one of the last tables. We each had one last phenomenal drink; my wife and Apricot 75 that had a great tart kick of apricot and lemon. While I enjoyed their Chai Fashioned which spelt like a chai but had that boozy bourbon warming you'd expect. Dessert wise everything sounded good as always but we settled on two. The Goat Cheesecake and Pineapple Cake. The cheesecake was the perfect sweetness without being cloying and the blueberry sorbet on top paired so well. The pineapple cake was moist and tasted so good we needed to scrap the plate clean. I'm sad that Portland is losing this amazing dessert space but glad it's not a complete goodbye since they'll operate the bakery still! If you somehow read this today and have the chance make it in for one last visit tonight before they close their doors!
