After reading other reviews, I think it's important to list some info here as well as a review. -Mae's dining room is located within the Historic Summit Inn Hotel. Park in the lot, and walk toward the front door.. you can't miss it! This is a very historic hotel, yes there are stone buildings in the back but just head toward the main entrance. -Only open during the summer months, due to road conditions on the mountain. -The Summit is a short drive from the interstate if you are traveling through, and is certainly worth the short trek up the mountain. -Mae's has a candlelit indoor dining room, as well as outdoor seating on their veranda. The outdoor seating is covered, and if you're lucky you will catch a summer sunset which is completely breathtaking! The menu is same for both the indoor, and the outdoor spaces. -Open to the public, you don't have to be a guest! -live music on Friday! Ok, review! I worked at Mae's when I graduated high school. The summer that I worked here I got to know my way around the kitchen, and also was really inspired by the high quality food that was served. Fast forward 15 years later, I still love coming here! Mae's serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner - all are excellent! The menu doesn't seem to change much, I think they have their menu selection really nicely planned and there is something for just about everyone here. This past weekend, my husband and I stayed at the Summit for our anniversary. I can't tell you how nice it is to stay somewhere that has such a nice restaurant, you feel like you're much further away from home than you actually are when you get to experience something like that! Breakfast, and dinner were fantastic. We sat outside for both, and even if I wasn't staying I can't tell you enough to check this place out. The calamari is always 5 star, my husband tried the prime rib, and I had the salmon. Everything was fantastic, and cooked to perfection. To finish, we had the blackberry cobbler which was homemade... oh, did I mention that we got to overlook the most beautiful backdrop too? This place is spectacular. All around wonderful!

Food was freshly prepared and cooked to perfection. The menu has something for everyone and reasonably priced. I'd definitely recommend stopping for dinner in a one of a kind establishment! Service was five star as well.

We enjoyed our dinner at The Back Porch Restaurant in Belle Vernon, PA…read more This restaurant is about 1 hour drive from downtown Pittsburgh. We are in town for a wedding. The building is a beautiful mansion Est. in 1806. The mansion was converted to a restaurant in 1975. You need reservations for the upper upscale dining area. We decided to eat in the Speakeasy room located in the basement because it was more casual. Glad we ate in speakeasy room because it was a really nice cave looking room with vintage decor and cool prohibition photos from the 1920s. We enjoyed the Half Rack of char grilled pork ribs with brown sugar, soy and ginger with a side of cheesy scallop potatoes. For dessert, we enjoyed the crème brûlée and Kahlua cheesecake. Everything we ordered was excellent!! We had really good service. Check this place out if ever in the area. Happy Yelping :)

The ambiance is intimate and welcoming. The interior and decor really add to the charm. We had reservations for 10 at 6:30 on a Saturday. We were sat in a back room at a nice big table. Sonny (sp?) our wait staff did a phenomenal job keeping up with all of our requests. A couple diners in our group were picky eaters, and even with their nitpicking he maintained a great attitude and made sure to make everyone feel at home. They had a great selection of summer specials. I opted for the hibiscus mule - a yummy cocktail with a tequila twist. My husband got the strawberry smash. Both drinks were strong and full of flavor. Thank goodness the homemade rolls came after my drink because the mule was kicking in! The bread was soft and you could tell it was homemade. Then came the food. The presentation was gorgeous and the flavors were on point. We ordered the calamari as our appetizer. Lightly breaded and not overly salty like you get some places. The sweet chili sauce with it was the perfect addition. For dinner we had the prime rib, and salmon Hemingway, with a side of scalloped potatoes and Parisian carrots. I was getting full but couldn't help but finish my salmon. Everything tasted amazing! The potatoes were rich and creamy. I had to save room for dessert. They were out of my first choice of chocolate mousse cake, so I opted for the creme brûlée. Wonderful experience at the Back Porch. I highly recommend enjoying a date night or celebratory dinner here!

The pools and hottub are a nice touch as well! As with any place that's been around for 100+ years, you can't expect perfection. The rooms are old school and purposefully lack common modern hotel amenities - such as a microwave or fridge. I also note that my bathroom had a steady stream of little ants on the floor/sink vanity. Didn't impact my stay, but if you are looking for things to whine about you are likely to find them. I strongly recommend Summit Inn so long as you know/acknowledge that staying in a place like this will have minor drawbacks but in its totality is a unique and pleasant experience beyond a place to lay your head at night! Thanks for having me!

We started with the fried zucchini, which was delicious. It is served with a homemade spicy ranch dressing that was outstanding. I ordered the crabcake sandwich and my daughter got the steak wrap. No complaints at all. Fries were nice and crispy. Not only was the food good, but our waitress was super nice, attentive and friendly. One thing to mention - The patio is very nice, but I'm a bit surprised by the layout. They have an incredible view of the valley, but there are only 2 tables that give you the full view. Most tables have no view. Odd.

The outdoor patio is beautiful but quite a few ants, nats, and mosquitoes. Menu is full of great options. Everything tasted wonderful; the mushroom soup is a well known staple around the region. The burrata pita bread was a little soggy, but tasted great. The smash burger had good flavor combinations but was definitely not a smash burger as the patties were full thickness. I would call it more a double bacon cheeseburger and it arrived overcooked, but the peppercorn aioli was a nice touch. The salmon salad had perfectly prepared salmon and I loved the dressing. In the future I think I would omit the tomato and cucumber because there were so many ingredients I feel it took away from the dish. The wedge salad special was great. Very blue cheese forward but I enjoyed it. Would be even better with some smoked bacon on top. The salmon dinner was well prepared, fresh and the presentation was on point. All in all, I would definitely come back and give this place another try. Also, with some fine tuning this cafe will be well above par for this area.
