The building is a beautiful mansion Est. in 1806. The mansion was converted to a restaurant in 1975. You need reservations for the upper upscale dining area. We decided to eat in the Speakeasy room located in the basement because it was more casual. Glad we ate in speakeasy room because it was a really nice cave looking room with vintage decor and cool prohibition photos from the 1920s. We enjoyed the Half Rack of char grilled pork ribs with brown sugar, soy and ginger with a side of cheesy scallop potatoes. For dessert, we enjoyed the crème brûlée and Kahlua cheesecake. We arrived around 11 PM and tried to check in but they had already given away the large rooms so it's a good thing we didn't have my kids with us or they would've had nowhere to sleep!!! They actually told us that the booking online is not their problem, not their fault or responsibility to make right. And let's talk about that front desk service. I don't know why I had to wait so long so many times, but I did. And they did not refund us for using the smaller room. So rude. What a horrible little enterprise. the historic charm was lost on me from irritating and poor service!

The salad - a split romaine topped with a slice of watermelon radish ( tasteless) a sprig of fennel, and shaved parmesan cheese . The dressing was home made but tasted like it was straight out of a bottle. Creative ? - Hardly ! For main course ( which must be selected days in advance ) - my wife's salmon was a generous filet on a bed of parmesan risotto ( gummy ). A very small amount of glaze that was not recognizable. I chose the Sous vide pork tenderloin. - A single 4 inch by 3/8 inch medallion with a fruit sauce served over a serving of tasteless smashed potatoes . Side dish for both meals was 3 sliced carrot pieces steamed and again tasteless. My meal arrived barely luke warm and over cooked - I assume it was plated and waited for my wife's salmon to finish. Dessert was crème brulee ! Plain creme brulee. To charge hundreds of dollars for a fine dining experience and then have the chef literally sleep walk through the entire menu and meal is unforgiveable. Our local culinary school provides a better culinary experience and menus at one third the cost of the Treetops .

Before going, I had read a few isolated reviews mentioning poor service and food quality. Since our experience was the complete opposite, I think it's only fair to share it as some balance. We had made a dinner reservation for the patio overlooking the river. It was a beautiful, sunny (and HOT) day. When we arrived, the hostess let us choose our table. I picked a sunny spot, but our server, Amy, came over and suggested we move just one table back because the shade would reach us much sooner, and we would still have a great view of the river. She was right, and after a long day on our bikes, we really appreciated her thoughtfulness. And that was just the beginning. Amy immediately brought us water and took our drink order. I was craving a spicy margarita, which wasn't on the menu. She graciously told me that if they had jalapeños in the kitchen, she would make me a great one. A little while later, Amy appeared with my margarita in hand and apologized for the delay. Then she explained why it had taken a little longer: they didn't have any jalapeños in the kitchen, so a staff member had actually run to their nearby home to grab a fresh pepper FROM THEIR GARDEN for my drink! Seriously. Who does that?! And yes, it was one of the best spicy margaritas I've ever had. Dinner was just as impressive. I really wanted a Caesar salad with steak, which also wasn't a menu option. When I asked Amy about it, she immediately said she thought they could make it happen. And they did. The steak was cooked perfectly, the salad was well made, and it had exactly the right amount of dressing. After three days of biking the GAP, sitting beside the river with a delicious meal, refreshing drinks and that beautiful view was exactly what we needed. Huge props to Amy and the entire staff at River's Edge Cafe. From accommodating our off-menu requests to literally finding a fresh-from-the-garden jalapeño for my margarita, the service went far beyond what we expected.
