Jell-O shots elevated quite a bit. Our appetizer was chef's choice which was burrata with grilled eggplant, peaches, greens and baguette. All so good! We enjoyed some extra cocktails from the menu, a blackberry mojito and a white Negroni with the appetizer. Then the entrees came along. I got the wild mushroom ravioli and she got the Faroe Islands salmon. This was the only part of the meal you had a choice in and you have to advise them ahead of time what you would like to eat as the main course. The final course was a creme brûlée serves in a 4 ounce mason jar. All in all, excellent quality of food and service with reasonable portions. We did not leave hungry. The screened in dining pod itself was very comfortable. It was a pleasant summer day so we did not need the fan or the heater which was available. They are nestled in the woods and sunshine peeks through the trees for a most serene dining experience. I commented that even if it were raining, you would be comfortable due to the design of the pods. There is a wide overhang so the rain wouldn't bother you coming in through the screens. If you are looking for a unique way to celebrate or just want to feel one with nature, this is an excellent option to consider. I highly recommend trying one out!

We had made a dinner reservation for the patio overlooking the river. It was a beautiful, sunny (and HOT) day. When we arrived, the hostess let us choose our table. I picked a sunny spot, but our server, Amy, came over and suggested we move just one table back because the shade would reach us much sooner, and we would still have a great view of the river. She was right, and after a long day on our bikes, we really appreciated her thoughtfulness. And that was just the beginning. Amy immediately brought us water and took our drink order. I was craving a spicy margarita, which wasn't on the menu. She graciously told me that if they had jalapeños in the kitchen, she would make me a great one. A little while later, Amy appeared with my margarita in hand and apologized for the delay. Then she explained why it had taken a little longer: they didn't have any jalapeños in the kitchen, so a staff member had actually run to their nearby home to grab a fresh pepper FROM THEIR GARDEN for my drink! Seriously. Who does that?! And yes, it was one of the best spicy margaritas I've ever had. Dinner was just as impressive. I really wanted a Caesar salad with steak, which also wasn't a menu option. When I asked Amy about it, she immediately said she thought they could make it happen. And they did. The steak was cooked perfectly, the salad was well made, and it had exactly the right amount of dressing. After three days of biking the GAP, sitting beside the river with a delicious meal, refreshing drinks and that beautiful view was exactly what we needed. Huge props to Amy and the entire staff at River's Edge Cafe. From accommodating our off-menu requests to literally finding a fresh-from-the-garden jalapeño for my margarita, the service went far beyond what we expected. It was the best place I ate on my weeklong trip in August, and it was once again the best place I ate on my ski trip this past weekend. A lot of pubs have burgers, fries, a few sandwiches, that sort of thing. It gets repetitive. O'Donnell's has that, but really knocks it out of the park with their main courses. You get the pub atmosphere, and good hearty food, but so much more variety than most places, and it's all delicious. Perhaps most impressive of all, they rotate in a variety of specials, and those are really good too. Their kitchen staff is versatile and skilled. The first time I went, I had a grouper special, with rice and vegetables, all cooked really nicely, not dry at all, and well flavored. Dessert was chocolate Guiness cake with Bailey's frosting, which was as good as it sounds. A few days later, I got the blackened chicken alfredo. Although not quite as gobsmackingly impressive as what I had the first time, it was still a really solid pasta dish. Five months later, I was back, and went with another special, the Berkshire pork chop, with homemade mashed potatoes as the side. Both were really good, but the mashed potatoes - best I've had in years. And carrot cake for dessert - not quite as unique as the Guiness cake, but another really good dessert. It also has a great atmosphere to dine in and really good service. Allison was working at least the first and third times I was there, still remembered me five months later, and was just as good at taking a phone-in order this weekend as the in-person ones earlier. They have their regulars who go there for the food and service, but also make newcomers welcome. Excellent staff. People around town recognize their food too. On Saturday, they were closing a bit early due to the snow, so I took my takeout up to Yough River Brewing (which welcomes outside food). At one point a man asked if my food was from O'Donnell's, and I said that it is, and a few minutes later I'm talking with his friend, the mayor, who loves O'Donnell's as well. And no wonder! This would be on my regular rotation if I lived nearby.
