We were stared at like we were breaking the rules by wearing one. My wife and I visited on a Sunday afternoon upon recommendation of a colleague who says this is a "must stop". He was so right. She orders the pulled chicken sandwich with an Asian slaw. Moist, flavorful and more than ample portion for the price. Her cheesy hash browns were also delicious. We shared a burnt ends appetizer (confess I ate 90% of them) and for $8.99, could have been a meal. But I also ordered the brisket sandwich with their corn chowder as a side. Apparently they're known for their brisket and I can see why! I'm calling it the best in IL I have tried. The four sauces also great, but especially enjoyed the Alabama White- sour cream based is my guess. No joke, they cater funeral dinners and my wife was excited to hear me say put this on the menu when I pass! I may be back tomorrow when they open on Tuesday! That good! read more

I really like this place. Normally a 4.5+ from me but tonight was average to below. First my pork belly blt was good but it contained 1 of the 3 slices was solid fat no pork at all which I blew off. Second was my daughter is allergic to tomatoes so we asked about the pulled chicken she was ordering and was told no bbq sauce/ tomatoes at all which it didn't have but while eating my daughter had to go throw up so we knew something wasn't right so we asked again and was told no tomatoes of any kind involved in making chicken...But here's the kicker....young lady says but they probably made your sandwich while making others that may have involved tomatoes.. umm I had the pork belly BLT T as in tomatoes. I guess I better be more clear next time about the tomatoes question. Did they offer her a replacement or gift card for future visit? NO. But that won't deter me from going back. read more

Really can't express how delicious everything is here. The interior is a nice inviting design. Music isn't too loud and it's bluesy(which i love). The burnt ends aren't real crispy but are so moist and flavorful. My husband had the 1/2 slab of ribs which in most places would have a full slab. Again tender and delicious so much that he said they didn't need sauce..the same for my smoked chicken. They have several sauces on the table that you can choose from..All the sides looked great and they have my all time favorite dessert, bread pudding, which I'm definitely going to try on our next visit. Ordered the pull pork sandwich with Mac n cheese. The corn bread was cold like it came out of the fridge. The top part of my bun was hard and crispy but cold. And the bottom bun was saturated in grease. Mac and cheese was luke warm. For the price they should put more effort into the food. The meat and sauce was very good tho. Been here several times - consistently a 10! My husband always gets the ribs and they are his standard by which all others are judged. So far no one is close. I love the rotating specials. We had the brisket sandwich and the wings to go. I took the honey bee sauce, signature sauce and the Alabama white sauce. Brisket was wonderful moist and tender. The temperature of the brisket was on the cool side. We would have been happier if temperature wise it was hotter. The wings were juicy. I would have given them 5 stars if they had warned me about the spice. I personally love the heat. My husband is not a fan of heat. He ate one wing. The cayenne was too much for him. I loved loved loved the Alabama white sauce. Yummy. The house sauce was good also but again a little "hot" for my hubby, The honey bee sauce was tastey just not may favorite. I did not try the peach chipolte because I personally do not like the flavor of chipolte. I do not mind the heat of chipolte just not a flavor I can get behind. I personally was mixing the house sauce and the alabama white for my wings. Yum. Again good food just on the spicy side for those that do not normally eat spicy. So spice haters beware. Stone Jug is great! I love everything about it from the Quality of food, the great atmosphere at their physical occasion, and the amazing people who work there. O.M.G this place is amazing!!!! I have always wanted to try this place out but never got around to it. I can now smack myself for not doing so sooner. We were looking for a place to stop after I get Starved Rock for a bite to eat and do some beer. This place is about 15 minutes away from Starved Rock, but well worth the extra drive. Similar vibe to nearby Haze, but the food and staff were a billion percent better. Very clean environment, warm and welcoming. Lots of wood and exposed brick. The food was exceptional. We tried the smoked wings, the burnt ends, the brisket, corn bread, coleslaw, and mac & cheese. Oh! and the bread pudding - this weeks special sauce was a cherry raspberry which came out looking neon but was clearly homemade and delicious as well. My favorites were the Mac & cheese, brisket and corn bread - yum! They had a great selection of craft beers + a full bar. It's order at the counter service but we sat at the bar and ordered and paid from there. Bartender was great - rest of the staff was super friendly. We'll definitely be back! read more

My colleagues and I were in town on business for a couple of weeks and heard from every other person we met with about how good Stone Jug is and oh my gracious, were they right!!! Even the "picky" members of our group were pleased! I had the beef ribs, so did one of my friends. My other friend had the St Louis style pork ribs, that she raved about. The sides each of us had were the collard greens (scrumptious), macaroni and cheese (really good)!!! And guess what? I went back the next day and got the smoked wings and the St Louis ribs with the baked beans. I'm SO glad I did! Fun place, fun people, great food! I'll be back!!! read more

We were driving home from Wisconsin and the 12 year old wanted BBQ. I am glad we stopped. We are from St. Louis and this is some of the best BBQ I have had in a long time. I got the 1/4 chicken with slaw and cheesy hash browns. Delicious all of it. The kid got pulled pork and Mac and cheese and all of it was delicious. I had my first visit to the Stone Jug Barbeque and I was very satisfied with the meal. The pulled pork sandwich was very good and their variety of sauces was unique. I mostly stuck with the signature sauce, but the peach chipotle sauce was exceptional as well. The Mac and cheese is very filling, do not be fooled by the small portion size. The bread pudding was delicious as well. Music was current and the original walls helped make the atmosphere rustic yet sophisticated. Great spot. read more

We stopped in without an appointment to try their food in hopes of hiring them to cater my daughter's upcoming wedding. Matt, the owner, prepared an amazing selection of tasters and we were able to not only say yes to them as our caters but definitively choose the menu. Mayor Nina, the bartender, gave us a lot of history about the company and new restaurant location along with many tips for our upcoming big event. The manager, a former Napervillian returned home, took the time to proudly share the special event area, a warm handshake, and a smile. A-mazing! We were traveling through Illinois to Indianapolis and picked it off of Google. Great pick. 2.5 hours from home, this will be a summer road trip destination.
