If you're looking for a good hot dog and burger joint, and you're driving past LaSalle, IL on I-80, I would strongly recommend The Dog House. It's basically a carry-out hot dog stand situated right in the middle of Main Street that offers a handful of benches to sit at. Small and family-owned, the service was prompt and friendly. There are thousands of places like this throughout the U.S., so IMO if you want to stand out, you gotta step-up you're game and offer something unique or different. The Dog House has chosen to serve up probably 40 or so different varieties of hot dogs based on cities across the country. Not sure how anyone would substantiate their claim that a hot dog from Fresno would be topped with bacon, tomatoes and cream cheese, but that's not really the point, is it?!? The folks that own this place have either spent a ton of time researching what hot toppings go on their tasty dogs, or they just made some shit up. Either way, it's a super fun way to keep folks coming back and it also guarantees that you won't soon forget your trip to the Dog House. Smart. BTW, for whatever reason, I opted for the Portland Dog - which featured a perfectly cooked hot dog topped with mayo, pickle relish and celery salt. It was fantastic. We also tried a Chicago Style dog, since that's our hometown favorite, and the Dog House nailed it! From the sport peppers, to the celery salt, to the pickle spear... someone did their homework. Well done. We also ordered a double cheeseburger and some cheese fries. Again both were fantastic. Crinkle cut fries cooked perfectly with the processed cheese sauce that one just expects at a spot like this one. The double cheeseburger was a nice surprise. Made to order, the burger pattys were a good size and they were cooked to perfection on the griddle. Was in town and decided to try this hot dog stand. The variety of options sounded great. I had a deep fried hot dog and a Baltimore. I was not impressed at all with either hot dog. The one I chose that I remember had cheese and grilled onions. I love grilled onions except that this grilled onion was more like tiny pieces of burnt onions. My fries were not good. Overall a huge disappointment. The menu sounded great but what I ordered was not good. I prefer the hot dogs from Portillos. read more

I saw this place on Yelp and was immediately intrigued with the menu. There was no way I was going to pass this place up while in town. It's a small shop with enough room for a service counter and 3 small tables. The staff was very friendly and took my order right away. I ordered the Los Angeles dog and nacho fries and got my food within 5 minutes. The LA dog has a deep fried hot dog which tastes a bit like a corn dog. It also has ketchup, mustard, mayo, pepper, bacon, and grilled onions. Nacho fries are your standard fries topped with shredded cheese, jalapenos, sour cream, and salsa. Both the hot dog and nacho fries were really good! I was curious to try the Explosion Sandwich (which has chicken strips, mozzarella sticks, fries, and marinara!) so I stopped by the same day for dinner. This time, I got the explosion sandwich, spicy cheese curds, and a Las Vegas dog. The cheese curds were AMAZING! The sandwich was also very good! I do wish there was a bit more marinara on it. If you usually like your sandwiches saucy, ask for an extra side of marinara. Nonetheless, this sandwich filled with deep fried goodness was yummy! The Vegas dog had chili, shredded cheddar, mustard, onions, jalapenos, and guacamole. I am so glad I got this one, it was delicious! Overall, the menu options are plentiful and creative! Whether you're feeling a traditional Chicago dog or something more adventurous, this place is a great choice! They use Vienna Beef dogs and poppy seed buns, the necessities of a good hotdog. Offering over 25 different "city dog" variations, each hot dog styled for a US city, there are many options at the Dog House. Althought I had originally intended to stick to the an original Chicago Style hot dog, I took a chance and ordered their Los Angeles city dog. I lucked out, as the Los Angeles dog was one of the better hot dog styles, I've had in a long time. A deep fried dog, the Los Angeles, is topped with ketchup, mustard, mayo, peppers, and bacon - and the mix works, very well. For a cheap $5, the LA hot dog, came with a large helping of crinkle-cut fries and a can of soda, a real deal for the quality of the meal. I would definitely recommend the Dog House, and plan to head back sometime to sample some of their many other city dogs. read more

It's a tiny place in a rundown section of 1st Street, but they definitely know how to make a legitimate Chicago hot dog! They had Vienna Beef dogs, the bun with poppy seeds, and all the condiments that make a Chicago dog unique. My wife, who is not a fan of hot dogs, had the chicken sandwich. It was a breaded and fried piece of white meat chicken, nicely seasoned, and on a fresh bun. To top it off, the service was polite and efficient, and the sodas ice cold. Delicious Vienna Beef dogs. The bun is soft, and the toppings are generous. Nice people working, and there are three small tables inside with 7 chairs total. The location is quiet, and parking was easy to find. My Seattle dog was great. The cream cheese was a nice touch. The LA dog has some hot chilies and the bacon topping is great. You get there and it does not look like much. But the staff was friendly, the hot dogs were delicious, and the prices were good as well. Great cheese sauce for fries with a generous amount of both sauce and fries. Very reasonable prices. They hussle to get your order done within a few minutes, even when busy. Have never waited more than 5 minutes. My only complaint is that the guy that works there is a little off-putting. He's polite enough, but he never smiles and sometimes throws down his phone like he's irritated to be interupted when a customer comes in. The lady is very nice and smiles and wishes you a good day, so she's fine. But I do wish the guy made me feel a little more welcome. Ordered chili and a chili dog. Of course asked for extra crackers for the chili, since we did order 3 bowels of chili. The employee repeated the order as we ordered and said it would be ready in 10 min. Went to pick up the order and she said they had no crackers. She told me to run to the Mexican store across the street and get some. So I went and bought a $4.00 box of crackers went back to pick up my order and she said she would give me 2 free soda's? What the hell. It gets better. The owner walks in and throws a fit that she filled the bowls to full, and "they do not give away that much chili." She said well we had no crackers, and he snapped that he don't care, that they are not ordering any until next month. Then she plopped the 2 free soda's in the bag and says well at least I hooked you up with these, and he says with what!? He looks in the bag and glares at her and says we don't do that either. We will talk later. Holy crap is all I have left to say since obviously he made it no secret as to what he thought of serving the public I have no problem giving the public an review of what service he seems fit to give us. The chili was gross and smelled like B.O. Service was awful and embarassing. I will never call or go to that hole in the wall again. I will stick with Beau Dawgs.
