Wow, last night I went because of its really awesome looking outdoor space and also I have been wanting to go back since I have been to parties catered by them upstairs and truly wait for the party every year for the food ! I am so happy I came. I haven't been going to restaurants, just take out, but stoneburner made it so safe and everyone was so friendly and helpful. Everyone was in masks of course but also stayed at a very far distance when coming around! The food was incredible, the warm focaccia with fresh ricotta, smoked tuna dip, chanterelle pizza, and the avocado citrus salad. Great food. Nice ambience. However, our experience was completely tarnished by absolutely rude staff starting with the waiter. He forgot our order thrice, and a simple cauliflower and oyster mushroom took over 1 hour 15 minutes to be served to us - btw the restaurant was not even close to capacity ... my son had to wait so long to just get an order of Dutch fries. We don't get to Ballard much, but it is always fun to get out and explore all the unique shops and restaurants. Certainly no shortage of dining experiences here! In the end, we decided to try Stoneburner. No reservations, no tables, so we sat at the bar (which is not as romantic, but much more entertaining). I ordered one of the Fresh Catch specials, Pan Roasted Black Cod with coconut, pumpkin bisque, crispy Brussels Sprouts, chili oil, Espellete and mint. The fish was cooked perfectly, but the flavors just weren't there. I was so disappointed in how bland it was, especially with the great listed ingredients. I guess just not enough of them. My wife ordered the Pasilla Honey Chicken, with romanesco, marble potatoes and caper vinaigrette. My BIG mistake was tasting her dish - it was amazing, fabulous use of herbs and spices, crispy skin, everything just excellent. She may have gotten short-changed a bit, as I kept going back to her plate for more. So, 1) call for reservations! 2) dress up a bit, it's a really nice place 3) I hate to say it, but maybe send it back and order something else if it doesn't live up to its hype. Nice night out! We wanted an outside table which was good, though slanted, but that's the road's fault, not Stoneburner. Nice server, brought the wrong wine at first but fixed it easily. We have been to Stoneburner 3 times over the last couple of years for happy hour and have always left happy :) Service is consistently professional, prompt and friendly. We have always been able to get a table for 2 immediately. They have a few tables outside for when it's sunny and warm that I've really enjoyed sitting at. Went to Stoneburner in December 2023 before a one of their partnered rooftop concert events. The service was unparalleled in the best sense of the word. Our server Madi (Maddie?) was outstanding, and her co-worker who helped our group of 10 navigate finishing our meals, drinks, and securing excellent seats for the show was next-level. Wish I could remember her name, but wow! And the food absolutely rocked. We tried 8-10 small plates (and the menu is subject to change) so picking a favorite is tough, but definitely recommend the roasted carrot and feta, crunchy olives, and grilled artichokes definitely stood out. We had the perfect table for our boisterous group and it was easy to carry out a conversation, so ambiance points for the win. Big ups to the team and hope to return soon. read more

We sat outside to get a view of the streets of Ballard at sundown. It was beautiful! Our waitress was very nice and helpful, definitely well versed about all the dishes on the menu. We tried everything that she recommended. I got the asparagus that was listed under the salad portion of the menu. Don't be fooled, it's not a salad, more like a side of asparagus, but really good! I never had a bite that was fibrous at the stem. It was well charred and had a slight crunch. Perfectly cooked! Our table shared the broccoli and pepperoni pizza. One of the better pepperonis I've had! It had a bit of a kick to it with the jalapeños and peppers but balanced nicely with a sweet honey drizzle. Stoneburner is so good! It's always busy when I walk by and finally we made it in for dinner. I got the lumache which has fonduta and peppercorn, it was super rich and the perfect serving. I also tried the garlic bread which was good, and oh my gosh the stuffed olives! Perfect amount of mozzarella inside. This should really be 4.5 stars: 4 for the food, but 5 for atmosphere and service. The restaurant is super-cute, with reclaimed architectural elements used in the décor. Service was beyond excellent! Staff were not just attentive, but genuinely friendly, as though they were happy to meet us! We had pizza and cocktails. It's not a traditional pizza at all. I would describe it as something closer to grilled pita bread with toppings. It was burned around the edges, as others have mentioned, but I'm not sure you can avoid that with this type of crust. After checking in, we got seated within 5-10 minutes. It's old fashioned, lodge deco with modern upscale menu. The staff were friendly and informed us the restaurant week. We ordered Tuna tip, Cesar salad, grilled octopus, Rogatoni, Asparagus pizza, lemon pound cake and chocolate budino. The service was upbeat even though it's busy. The Rogatoni was perfectly al dente and I loved the running eggs on the pizza. Unfortunately, the server forgot our grilled octopus but we were almost full that time. She apologized for the honest mistake. They sold out the lemon pound cake and offered us chocolate molten cake instead. Love this place and will come back again! read more

I really enjoyed the food here. We sat at the kitchen where we were able to watch the chefs make all the food and they cook so much of it in the pizza oven which I love as that adds a nice char to it all. We started with some bread with ricotta and octopus. The octopus was very tender. Then we had the broccoli, cooked in the oven, with lemon tahini and I think it was the best broccoli I've ever had. I would love to go back to try some of their other vegetables. The pizza we got was fennel sausage and we finished with a key lime custard with strawberry sorbet and the plating on the dessert was beautiful. Hadn't been to Stoneburner in a while but planned some wedding dress appointments for a friend that put us in the area and decided it would be a great stop for brunch. We had a mix of adventurous and non-adventurous eaters and Stoneburner's menu catered to that perfectly (non-adventurous folks gravitated towards the delicious cheese pizza, the adventurous among us tried the lamb burger, charred kale, and wild mushroom/ramp pesto pizza). Everything was 10/10. Throw on the cocktails, delicious wines, beers, and a housemade non-alcoholic pineapple soda for the pregnant lady. The food and drink was a hit. Server was incredibly friendly, wonderfully attentive. Outdoor seating was great, even in the rain. It was a fabulous stop I'd recommend to anyone. read more

From the pretty dim lights to the upscale / modern decor, this place is perfect for a light fancy dinner without having to shell out major $$$++++. My friend and I opted to split an order of the Malrade pasta and the pizza special of the day + Fzz Tropical Drink. THE GOOD: Fizz Tropical Drink = perfect non alcoholic beverage if you need some flavor with your seltzer water. Mixed in with a variety of fruity flavors, this was definitely refreshing to drink Pizza Special of the Day = YUMMMM. I forgot the name but it was laden with yummy cheese, bacon + other smaller things. At a 12in size (and more rectangular vs circular look), this pizza is a good sharing dish. Made and baked in house by a wooden stove, I like the texture/taste. A bit pricey for the pizza (most range in the $18-20 realm) but it was delicious. THE MEH: Malrade pasta fell short of my expectations. For a close $20 pasta, I envision this to be a mouthwatering pasta.........except it wasn't close to that. Noodles were plain and bland while the sauce was ok. Biting into a chunk of bacon = occasional burst of flavors and that was it. Also, portion wise = eh. Since it wasn't a rich dish, splitting it between two people barely sated our hunger much. One thing to note: vast majority of the people who dined here seem semi-dressed up. We just got turned away on at Sat night, at 9:20pm, because they "close at 9pm". SERIOUSLY??? That's sad and inexcusable. No excuse to close that early especially on a Saturday night, and summer, and in Ballard! It's not even dark yet! Hot damn!! In these dark days of pandemic-driven comestible mediocrity (try saying that 3 times fast) Sunday brunch here was AMAZING!! My wife had the Turkish poached eggs with aleppo butter and yogurt with flatbread, while I went for the cured salmon (hey it's Ballard after all) and avocado toast. We also got a Dutch baby to share. The Dutch baby was a bit different than what we had experienced before - this was more like a thin omelette with apple butter on top. Tasty though. But the cured salmon? Omg, so silky and sensuous I wanted to enrobe myself with it, like an inside out smoked salmon roll. My wife said her yogurt dish was equally sublime. They had both indoor and outside seating available. We made a reservation; not sure about walk-in traffic. My absolute all time favourite Seattle date night restaurant. The words "wow" fall out of my mouth with every bite I take. The servers are incredibly knowledgeable with wine, and have always recommended a perfect bottle to pair with our meal. I've been to Stoneburner a couple of times now. Once for happy hour and most recently for a dinner with my work team. Service can be a bit slow at times. But the servers are on point with making suggestions and recommendations. Stoneburner is located in the heart of Ballard Ave. in Hotel Ballard. So what does that mean? It means parking can be frustrating, other than that, this place is solid! Cool ambience? Yes! Nice drink selection? Yes! Great food? Yes! Yes! Yes! For starters we had a selection of cold cuts, just to wet our palate. Then we ordered the "super good grilled octopus," which was just that super good! For an entree I had the roasted pork collar, and we shared the kale salad and the risotto special. Let me just say if collar of any kind of animal is on the menu, just order it. The menu changes regularly and it's always a little bit quirky and off-beat. Which I love. They have lots of tasty veggie dishes, which I love. The cocktails are interesting, fun & well prepared, which I love. And it is just a bustling & beautiful place to enjoy a meal. It is a great place to bring out of town guests for a nice meal, fun with a group, but also just a sold neighborhood spot. Perfectly crispy crust - not too thick or thin, carmelized garlic and onion, sofrito base was so so good, arugula, cheese, porchetta, fried egg... c'mon! I can't think of a better thing - except perhaps for a larger size. haha. And a nice thing was that they gave each of us a small sidedish of fresh dried red pepper, parmesean and basil to add as we pleased. Absolutely fabulous food and wine, with incredible service. Our server was very knowledgeable on the food and when I asked about a good wine pairing, he immediately brought over their in-house sommelier who was AWESOME. The best part about this whole experience was that the food was such high quality but the vibe was not pretentious at all. We ordered the nettles pizza, snap pea salad (ORDER THIS!), the tempura fry, and roasted carrots. Everything was cooked to perfection, fabulous mouth-feel, wonderful flavors. I want to start this review with: KATE is the best server I've ever had in my life. Now that that's done with, I'll go in to why she got that title. I was visiting Seattle to see my best friend and her husband. She happened to have a cousin coming into town the same weekend so we all decided to have brunch together. Whitney (my friend) being the native Seattlite, made a reservation for six at the Stoneburner at 11:00 on a Saturday. We showed up and were greeted by this super nice host and he told us he could take us now or we could wait for our 3rd couple. He sat us promptly per our request. Once we sat down Kate came over to greet us, she wasn't only nice she was also witty and considerate to boot. As she was taking our drink orders she noticed one of the girls let the table know she's pregnant that's why she's no getting a mimosa. She joked with us about how it's silly she felt like she needed to explain that to us. Kate then came back with a celebratory toast and a cider for out momma to be. It was so thoughtful, unexpected, and genuine. Kate also asked us a few times if we were ready to hear specials or had any questions without ever making us feel like we needed to order right away. As I stated before, We were all visiting for the first time in a while and Kate totally picked up on that and gave us our space to catch up. She was the best in so many ways, got all of our orders right, checked on us often and was considerate and kind. Now the food, is the witty nice server wasn't enough, let me tell you, the food was so good I'd probably eat there with terrible service. I got the breakfast spaghetti carbonara with a poached egg. It was to die for. My boyfriend got the pork shoulder with eggs and potatoes and it was mouth watering. I can't say enough good things about this place. This was a perfect place for my birthday brunch. We started with the smoked tuna dip topped with pickled watermelon. So delicious and perfect with chips. The asparagus Caesar salad was so refreshing and the asparagus just the right crunch. We shared a Dutch baby to taste. I had never had one. So fluffy but not too sweet. I had the Lamb burger with sriracha aioli and goat cheese which was super tasty. My friend had the carbonara pasta - licked his plate clean. The service here was awesome. We ordered their 3 wine flight of selected Italian wines. All delicious. For food we had the garlic bread, beets with chevre, butter leaf salad and a mozzarella pizza. All were yummy though the beets and salad were a cut above. Pizza had delicious marinara sauce with a bit of spice to it. Cheese was great too. The crust was a little more 'burnt" than I like as it adds a bit of bitterness but didn't really detract from my enjoyment. Chic restaurant with great food! The interior, open windows to the street, and overall ambiance were quality to start. The food and cocktails just escalated it even more. They have italian type food with a more general "Mediterranean" bend that offers some unique and unfamiliar options. I went for the crispy olives filled with mozzarella and the Rigatoni. Why not all 3 of our meals at the same time I have no idea. Worse yet when it made it to the table eggs were well done no yolk (sunny) at all. The stoned runner looked confused when I asked to have them made again. By the time it got back eggs were better not correct, but better and edible, the steak was ice cold. There is no specific reason drawing me to come back for another visit. Initially I ordered the tajarin pasta and my friend ordered the special house pizza of the day. I like my tajarin (though not the best I had in town), however it was tiny for what I assumed to be a main course portion. I was still hungry so I then ordered the chanterelle and yukon potato pizza. The pizza is good, but not great (again not the best of its kind I I had in town). We LOVE this place! We don't go often, but every time we do it's a treat. They consistently deliver a wonderful dining experience. It is a comfortable yet elegant, non-pretentious but elevated atmosphere, the food is simply delicious, and drinks are five star. The servers also get a round of applause... they are excellent. Warm, friendly, funny, and attentive without hovering. The portions are generous, perfect for family style.
