We have been to a dozen or so wineries in NC as well as many wineries and tasting rooms throughout Washington, Oregon and California. Stonefield seems like a nice enough facility with friendly enough staff but we did not like the wine much at all. The timing of our visit was not the greatest. When we went in the tasting room was empty. By the third wine, there were at least a dozen people being served at the same time by one young woman. Because of this she simply did not have time to talk about the wines as she poured. This definitely took away from the experience but nothing could be done about that, I'm afraid. We did not try any of the reserves. We ran through all the dry reds, a particularly tannic Pinot Gris, and a sweet red. All of the reds tasted of under ripe, sour fruit with varying degrees of spice. For us, wine tasting is about experiencing different flavors. There was less variety in the wine flavors than any tasting room I have visited. How does one make everything taste so sour? I poured out many of the samples. We did not bring any wine home. read more

Highly recommend! Went on a Saturday for a wine tasting and very surprised at the quality of their wines - yes, i was not expecting much from NC wines. Owner was one of the one's pouring the tasting and is a grad of UC Davis as well as is from Napa. He is working some magic with the blends as they are very good. I'm a devoted red wine drinker, and most of the wineries in the NC and VA area tend to fall short on their red wines. I found a winner in Stonefield Cellars. Winemaker obviously knows his stuff. Reserve Cab especially good. Nice tasting room, very friendly atmosphere, will definitely go back. read more

There is much to appreciate about Stonefield Cellars, one of the many wineries in this area, and the wine is just one of them. Noah, the owners' Bengal cat, always stands ready to greet you when you arrive, and even on a particularly chilly day, he has certain wily ways of keeping warm. Stonefield Cellars features a decent selection of white, red, and sweet wines, all made from the grapes they grow at the vineyard. I'm not much for whites or sweets, but their dry reds are distinctive, particularly their reserve wines -- Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and a pair of blends called Beneficence and Barrel X. Also noteworthy are their Sangiovese and a blend of all their grapes called Mountain Mama Madness. With rare exception, I am not overly fond of Merlot, but Stonefield's aptly named Gato, which features Noah on the label, goes down very smoothly. If you're a local oenophile and haven't been over to Stonefield Cellars, hie thee there at once. You won't regret it. read more

Pleasantly surprised by this winery near the Triad region. Entered into a cutesy gift shop and were instantly welcomed by the friendly, easy to talk to staff. Tried 7 of their wines for $7, all of which were delicious. A few standouts, but everyone could find something they'd enjoy here, with a good mix of reds, whites, and off-dry/sweet wines. Though I normally avoid fruit wines at all costs, the blueberry wine was a pleasant surprise--worth checking out. They even carry bottles of beer in the fridge for anyone who doesn't like wine but is along for the ride! Looking forward to a repeat visit, at least to meet their friendly (outdoor-only) winery cat. read more

Cupid may have been shooting arrows, but Stonefield Cellars was nearly shooting blanks! So I attended their Valentine's Dinner with wine pairing last night, along with eleven others. The winery and grounds were really beautiful, and their setup inside for approximately 50 people was really a pretty setup as well. It was supposed to be a appetizer, salad, double entree, and dessert choice all of which would be paired with a selected wine. The look that I noticed on most people's face when walking in was a look of impressed, until the saw that they would be sitting for three hours in folding metal chairs. As we sat awaiting the Pimento Cheese in a canapé shell, our first wine was already waiting. A nice Pinot Grigio that barely filled 1/3 of the glass. Nearly 15 minutes later with wine now finished, the nickel sized pimento shell was delivered. One for everyone though I had no wine to pair it with now. The undersized, but delicious, Dried Cranberry Salad was delivered about ten minutes after our next wine selection had been poured. Again seeing we were only getting 1/3 of a normal wine pour, many people started getting up to go to their wine bar to purchase bottles of their favorite wines. Our table of 12 bought three additional bottles as well as several bottled beers. The wine pairing for the entrees arrived nearly on time with the delivery of the entrees. Thinking whatever the problem had been, maybe now things were starting to flow! Not exactly! It was nearly ten minutes from start to finish for our table to receive their entrees. The Sirloin Tips with mushrooms, the Stuffed Chicken, Potatoes Au Gratin, and Roasted Tomato with Parmesan was oddly all stuffed onto one really full plate lacking any kind of presentation. Make no mistake though, it was really good and perfectly cooked! Finally the dessert choice which consisted of either Raspberry Cheesecake or Chocolate Ganache slice paired with a wine for each. I actually tasted and liked both, but loved the Raspberry Cheesecake! Kudos to Pepper Moon Catering for some really tasty food! Though I wasn't overly impressed with any of their wines, I can say their were a couple of them I did like. They were certainly understaffed for this event, and not really well organized for the fact that wines and food were not being delivered close together. It is a food and wine pairing event. For $70 a person I was embarrassed for them for the one bite appetizer, undersized salad, and really small wine pours! It came across as cheap, when couples had invested $140 to just walk through the doors! You're goal here is to win me over, get me to come back for another event, and possibly buy my wine from you as opposed to buying from some retailer. It was certainly a fun evening with good food, live music, and good friendship despite a number of missteps! read more

Stonefield Cellars Winery has it all! I'm so pleased to live close enough to this winery to appreciate everything they have to offer. Their staff are incredible friendly and knowledgeable, the wine is very good, they offer events such as live music, food tasting/wine pairing, formal events, and even classes. I took their ten week class and was very pleased with the result. It was a consistent effort to keep all the students engaged, entertained, and educated. I would absolutely take the class again and plan to attend more of their events just because I feel so lucky to have them in our community. read more

My friend and I went to Stonefield Cellars last night for the concert. It was our first time there and probably will be our last . Very disturbing to me that wine is served in small plastic glasses ! When my friend requested a wine , as some people had them, he was told that only the people who were members received actual glass wine glasses .. Really? Im sorry but if you cant serve me with a "real" wine glass , then you dont deserve my business . Wont be back. read more
