Fun place to go to play games and hang out. There's security at the front that checks IDs and makes the place feel safe. Bartenders are quick to make drinks. Lots of options for cocktails, beers, and drink specials change every month too. There's a pizza place inside with great pizza. There's high top tables for seating inside and regular tables out front on the porch. Plenty of games including pinball, skeeball, arcade style games. Boxcar has always been one of my favorite places downtown but I recently tried the pizza and I was impressed! We just went for the classic pepperoni but it was delicious and not too expensive. It tasted fresh and came out really hot & quick. I really enjoyed the crust too. The games at boxcar are always fun - they have Mario kart, basketball, skeeball, old school games, & so many more. The service has always been good there - they can get really crowded depending on the time so it can take a little bit to get a drink but the bar is huge. They usually have special drinks for holidays or events which is always fun but I recommend getting there early if you want one because they tend to run out quickly. The inside is huge and there's a nice outside area. During the day on the weekend they often have live music for free so I definitely recommend checking it out! I do wish they stayed open until 2 because a lot of bars downtown close at 1 and I'm a night owl but that's a small complaint in the grand scheme of things. read more

I love bar-cades and Boxcar is no exception. I've been here many times and love all of their games. They have a good mix of retro games from my childhood and some newer ones like Mario Kart. There's also a bunch of physical bar games like basketball, air hockey, foosball, etc. It's so easy to spend the whole day here. Stopped in here as part of our Brew Peddler tour of Greensboro, and then came back after for more fun. I've been multiple times before, and am still a big fan. So many great retro games, different game styles for everyone in your group, they've also got a full bar and a pizza kitchen with some fantastic pizzas. We spent about an hour after the tour here, just hanging out and playing different games. We also got a chicken bacon ranch pizza which absolutely hit the spot. Full of flavor and generously topped, it was exactly what I needed to refuel! We were able to enjoy it on their large front porch, which offered a nice breeze, but also sim coverage. Majority of the coin machines weren't working. The ones that were working, you could not use a card on them and had to use the atm next to it and pay the fee. A large amount of the gaming machines had out of order signs on them, and some that didn't would just eat your coins. Gets pretty packed the later it gets and you can barely hear yourself think. Drinks are pricey, you have to pay to park and if you leave even over a minute over your time slot, "parking management solutions" will send you a BS bill in the mail. I arrived Around 4:05pm on a Saturday afternoon with my friends after grabbing some bunch. We got a round of green tea shots. Whiskey, peach snappa, and sour mix in the green tea shot, which is on special today for $5. It was tasty and the bartender said it was a popular shot. We sat outside for a short period so they could smoke cigarettes. I don't smoke but I accompanied them. There were heaters outsides which was awesome because it was cold haha. I'm glad to see Boxcar doing well. I made a recent stop after not having visited for a loooooooooong time. They're dishing out pies consistently now, and they look outstanding. I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place yet. It is a fun place to hang out and play games! I love that they still use tokens instead of having to load a card for playing games. We just came passing through on our way road tripping and loved it, will be back and are planning to make a trip to Greensboro now. It has a cute little arcade and the food is absolutely delicious. I mean it's pizza...it's hard to go wrong with pizza and they do have pickle pizza that's interesting but I do wanna come back and try it and they do have cannolis that I'm very intrigued about. We actually stumbled here on the Fourth of July, a lot of the streets were shut down due to the festival, but we thought we'd come on in for some games and a drink or two. We visited boxcar recently to meet up with some friends for some drinks and games. Upon coming up to the front ateos security scan you with a metal detector wand and they check IDs while you look at a small camera, so it is obvious that safety is important. This place has a very fun vibes with lots of retro and modern arcade games, pinball machines and sports and tabletop games. I had fun playing the old streetfighter versus X-Men arcade and the other classic street fighter game. My wife kept it rocking with guitar hero. The bar was staffed with about three or four servers so there wasn't really a long wait to get a drink. The they have a good pizza bar amongst other snacks. We had a really great time.! read more

A well long, overdue review of what has essentially become a staple in downtown Greensboro. You tend to not realize how long this establishment has been here now but it's still holding up and a great place to hang out. I've been coming here, quite often, since they opened many years ago and though the games and layout has changed, this being a go-to spot hasn't changed one bit. Plenty of games to choose from whether new, arcade, pinballs, nostalgic retro games, or physical movement games. The layout is much more wide open as years past, including more tabletops to sit inside and their pizza truck is now a giant pizza oven inside as well. - The pizza is pretty good with many different options and toppings to choose from. The only gripe is I wish they had sides. The deck area is expanded and they typically have live music out there. If a machine eats your coins let them know and they'll reimburse you. Great service here!
