A fun place to hang out with friends. The staff is very nice, and the food is pretty good.

Absolutely amazing food! Went today after seeing a comment…read moreon North Idaho Foodies Facebook page. Called up my wife's Grandfather, checked if he was free for lunch. We drove up, about 40 minutes from where we live. We've been to Messys across the street a few times, and Spirit Lake is my wife's favorite summer hangout spot. We had seen White Horse a few times, but never stopped in. Sat in the bar/saloon area. Were told that the kitchen was a little backed up, it would be a while before our orders were put in. No big deal, we were happy to hang out. I was very pleased the staff were Open Carry supporters, even got a "Awesome Piece!" from the young man who seated us and took our orders - I THINK his name was Tim, I could be very wrong, but he was a very helpful server. Grandpa loves his milkshakes and was sad to find out they didn't have any. Meh, not a problem. I just ran across the street and grabbed a pair for us at Messy's. Problem solved! Owner stopped by after a while with his pup, amd chatted. Love the fact the place is locally owned and operated by someone who clearly loves the place, its history, and the area! After a while, the chef himself came out, apologized that our order wasn't ready - not a big deal, came to talk shop about my leathermaking business and hang out - and told us we were next up. I ordered the Motherload and grandpa ordered the Dip. Let me tell you, that both our plates were WAY exceeding any expectations for quality you could assume! My burger - if you could call a leaning tower of meat something as prosaic and simple as a "burger" - was absolutely remarkable! The patty was made from pulled pork! Like the chef took pulled pork bbq, and hand formed a patty with it! There had to be 1/2 a POUND of brisket on it, and several HUGE pieces of bacon. I'm a BIG guy. I have a BIG appetite. And I ate HALF that burger and couldn't stuff anything else in my gullet! Grandpa said his Dip was PERFECT! Being an older gentleman, sometimes swallowing dry food isn't that easy, so he likes the dogs because he can put some sauce or au ju on it, make it easier to swallow. He ended up drinking the au ju like it was soup, said the beef in his Dip was absolutely PERFECT by itself, basically melted in his mouth. And it was a LOT of meat on his, let me tell you! Both of us took home full boxes of leftovers, which, in my case, was stolen fairly quickly by my wife and kiddo, who proceeded to absolutely DEMOLISH the remains of my too quickly departed evening snack! Now they are both bugging me to go back, which I will be all to happy to do. So if you are in the Spirit Lake area, and looking for good food, rest assured, you are in great hands! White Horse Saloon is where epic food comes to be served!

Let's just say it really was special because, we arrived a couple minutes early and the previous special was on the board. Instead of coming back after I'd ordered and disappointing me. They just made it and the waitress came back to tell me I would be having the only one served today. Amazing service to do that. As we were sitting there the hostess immediately got to putting the days actual specials on the board. We all had a great meal and a great time. We all took a to go box as it was a lot of food. The hot sauces are a bit above the normal choices too, the scorpion had a little sting for sure . Word of mouth is about the only way you would even notice this place because it's not flashy at all and I'm not sure we didn't park in the garage next doors business parking. Will go again for sure!

I ordered the fish tacos again (still amazing), my husband got a burger again (awesome) and this time my son got the Burrata Ravioli. Short of licking his plate clean, he ate and enjoyed every bite. We were too full for dessert or we would have ordered the flourless chocolate cake (also GF) but the BEST part came at the end of the meal. When Megan presented the check, I was over the moon thrilled to see a pocket copy of the US Constitution included. SO SO cool! Megan said they give one out to each table and I was excited to let her know that I always carry a copy in my purse. I did take this one to give my husband so he always has a copy - but what a truly cool thing to do. By doing that, the owners have earned my admiration in addition to my appreciation for their food! Well done!

Very unique inside with lots of tucked away booths and cubby's. Nice friendly service. Lots to choose from on the menu. We had the tenderloin ( which was huge) with seafood medley (on the special menu). Came with choice of potato and a huge pile of yummy green beans. Lots of food. You won't go hungry. To top it off our server brought us a complimentary mud pie dessert in celebration of our anniversary. It was huge!!! And delicious too. We had a very nice time and highly recommend stopping in here for a great meal.

Unfortunately, we were having dinner there for our 30th anniversary. She ordered the filet mignon and I ordered the peppercorn New York. Both were ordered medium, and they both came out well done, like leather. Mine had one hint of redness in one spot, so I decided to go ahead and eat it. Her filet was $57, and there was no way I was going to pay that for leather. We sent it back, and by the time I had finished what I was going to eat of mine, hers came back out. This time the center was basically raw, and the outer surface was again overdone, like leather. I don't know how anyone can possibly cook a steak this bad. It would take a lot of effort. I don't know if it was because it was Memorial Day and the regular cooks were off. Let's hope that's the case, but I'm definitely not giving them another chance. I dropped $150 on the worst steak ever. It'd be one thing if they were selling something else and happened to also make a steak, but in this case they described themselves as a steakhouse. I would definitely not give them your money. By the way, the ambience wasn't great either, and to think we drove quite a ways to get there for that dinner. Two thumbs down.

We both like our drink. As a bonus, they have several TV's to watch sports games on. They have a small patio for the warm days. We will be back for sure to enjoy good food, service and a fun time.
