This use to be one of my favorites but the quality of food has declined tremendously. I hope they bounce back.

Very disappointing food wise. Impressive service wise. What can I say? All the impressive service in the world won't make me happy after I spend $18 for a house salad with gross ranch dressing and a steak burger that could have just as easily come from Ruby Tuesday. This place has some great sweet tea and French fries though!!! The restaurant is gorgeous. It really is. The servers are plenty, quick, and very professional in appearance. The wine display is awesome. Seating is spacious and comfy. The noise though! We were seated by the kitchen and I couldn't hear myself think. It was almost like the other patrons were noisier than the kitchen though. Not peaceful dining whatever the cause. Have you ever looked at a menu and had sticker shock? Well I halfway had sticker shock, but then I reasoned - if this is good steak/food it will be worth it! It was not worth it for me. The ranch dressing is probably the only ranch I won't eat. They advertise it as buttermilk ranch. That may well be, but it must have sugar in it too or something highly offensive to my palate. The house salad was huge, fresh, and all the ingredients were perfectly chopped. I just couldn't get past the dressing. The steak burger was pretty sad. I asked if it was possible for it to be cooked medium or with some pink. The server said yes, but it came out barely pink if at all. The meat was good but just worth about $8 not $13. The onions were placed directly next to the bun so that the bun became soggy. There was wayyyy too much arugula. The fries I would give 4 and a half stars. Very well seasoned, perfect thickness, almost melt in your mouth. My mom's NY strip was better than my meal. The compound butter was awesome. There was gristle on it though. And it wasn't a melt in your mouth steak like J. Alexander's NY strip. Probably never coming back. It's sad because it's such a lovely restaurant physically and staff wise. read more

So I love it. It's outside of my preferred price point but the food, ambience and service makes up for it. Went for a work lunch and everyone was impressed with their meals. Portions were huge, especially for lunch. Apparently it's the same size as dinner. The taste was great. Everyone cleaned their plate. Went back for dessert one evening. The dessert is also huge. Everything is larger enough for 2 and it's only $7-$10. I highly recommend this place. Hope they keep it up. Beautiful atmosphere and design. read more

My review is based strictly off of service. I went to pick up a Togo order. I go to the bar and the man there (Poss named Landon). I stood there for atleast 2 or 3 minutes before he even acknowledged me because I guess the bottles in the mini fridge were that important. When he finally looked at me I told him I was there to pick up a to go order. He then went and got my order placed it on the bar & walked off. Didn't make sure it was the right order, if I had everything or anything. I then asked him for something extra. He tells me how much it would cost goes back to the mini fridge. Then finally walks to the kitchen. Terrible terrible service. & don't get me wrong I don't expect or want anyone to kiss my feet. This was my second time here, first time didn't go so well but the manager made up for it and we decided to give it another try for my birthday......... Right off the bat I was disappointed that my martini came in a low ball glass, they "ran out" of martini glasses which I found odd and I sent it back. Picky ? Maybe ! Our meal was good. I had the bistro chicken with au gratin potatoes and my friend had the Szechuan salmon. They brought us complimentary desserts that was greatly appreciated. Whew chile! The food! I finally dined here for the first time today to get some brunch food. I did look at the menu before coming and knew what I wanted. Since I'm back French toast type of chick, I had to get it (French Toast Anna it says on the menu). When it came out, I was a little perplexed. Was expecting the typical 2-3 Texas toast shaped toast, but instead was 4 oblong shaped toast which looked like it came from a loaf of French bread. Veeeeerrry interesting. Tasted wonderful. Too big to finish in one sitting though. Also got the Bellini carafe. Loved that as well. Great atmosphere on a Sunday morning. Our waitress was excellent too. The food was okay. My husband ordered a medium rare steak but it was so raw that it was blue. The prime rib was a little dry. I was celebrating my birthday and not offered the free cake everyone mentioned so I had to pay for the $11 slice of cake. The cake was pretty good. Refills would have been nice but we only go one refill the whole hour and a half we were there and they didn't take any of the extra dishes off our table so we were super crammed for space. The table next to us got there after us and were served their beers quickly. Went to enjoy a lunch at the bar at Stoney River, after shopping for my daughter's birthday gift today. I have to say, there's a decline in parenting. So... My husband and I had been sitting there for an hour enjoying each other's conversations and our meal when a guy and his twelve year old son walk up and sit down at the bar beside us. The child had his phone turned up as loud as possible to hear his program over the ambient noise. As a parent... do you allow your child to blare their music/programs so that it infringes on others? I certainly don't! Then this guys proceeds to get perturbed at my husband for turning around to see where the noise is coming from. This fine upstanding father starts belittling him and then comes after me verbally. It was startling how rude and aggressive he was. He basically told me to leave. I can't believe how insensitive people are to those around them. We all live in the same space. It's not my space, it's not your space--unless of course it your own house, and even then we respect each other. I don't get it. Needless to say, I left after the bartender who'd been serving us for the last hour did nothing to defuse the situation. In his defense, perhaps he was as surprised as the two of us. The drinks were tasty and the food was really good but the entire experience rates unusually low. It would have been stellar if the bartender or manager who was called for assistance had offered to move us to a different location. In the end, I didn't finish my meal. **PS I just learned that in TN under aged patrons can sit at a bar. This was surprising to me! I can't tell you how many states I've lived in that don't allow minors at the bar. Now I'm interested to know how many do. read more

Our daughter asked to go here for dinner for her 9th birthday. Arrived at 7:40 and was seated immediately and our server arrived at our table promptly so no complaints there. We mentioned that is was our daughter's birthday and the server stated that they'd bring her "something special" after dinner. We started with the spinach dip appetizer which was good, my wife ordered the ribeye with a side of garlic mashed. Her steak was pretty much on point temp wise and seasoned well, so we were good there. I ordered the strip steak with Mac n cheese, my steak while was the correct temp inside but the "top side" (side facing up on the plate) was rather burnt and was obviously scorched, there was Herb butter concealing most of it and my hope was that it was just burnt on the ends I could see. So about 1/4 of the way into the steak the burnt, singed taste wasn't getting any better. Now I absolutely hate complaining and sending food back so after much debate my wife convinced me that as much as the steak cost, it should be cooked correctly. Our server was advised and to her credit the steak was re-fired and approx 15 minutes later a gentleman whom I assume was the manager arrived with a new steak and a new side of Mac. This one was slightly over done and the steak was not great but I applaud their efforts. Now I want to mention two things that were really off putting, first the water, the water tastes like it was either straight out the f the toilet or poured out of a musty leather boot and secondly, the dinner rolls while looked great, had a weird "gas" like taste and was not good at all. To finish it all off, the check was delivered to the table and nothing "special" we assumed would be a slice of cake or the like arrived nor were we even offered to see a dessert menu. To me Stoney River is a Houston's copy, serving higher end American cuisine. One day hopefully I'll get another shot at Stoney River, but my first meal wasn't overly memorable. The atmosphere was on point at lunch time and the server was decent, but the French dip was mediocre. I'm comparing this against the KING French dip from Houston's. Even my wife will take town their French dip. The one here was a fattier meat with some gristle. It's almost like they carved the prime rib and then smushed it together with green peppers which took away from the meat. The bread was a butter log but still couldn't save the sandwich. No thanks SR, this just didn't work. It was served with no Au Jus so I had to ask. Rookie mistake Mr. Server. Great fries though. Maybe good opportunity for a chef field trip to Houston's to see what a real French dipper is all about... read more

4 stars is generous, but because they're so new, and I'm excited about the place, I want it to succeed. The decor is great, the menu outstanding and our food was mostly delicious. However, our server was very inexperienced. There were 4 couples, she started out by taking the men's orders first. That's waiting 101- always start with the females. We had to ask 3 times for bread, and was disappointed that it was biscuits, not fluffy rolls like they have in Nashville - I had pasta, and a nice piece of bread would have gone great with that. Everyone agreed, biscuits don't really go with a steak dinner, they're really more of a breakfast food. When our salads came out, 4/8 were given to the wrong person. Same when the entrees came, it got to be a joke by the end of the night, 3 of us got doggie bags and 2/3 were mixed up as well. Overall, I know they will do a lot better and the food is good, they just need to get the wait staff better trained. I hope to come back with a stronger positive review soon! read more

My friends and I had wonderful time at Stoney River. We had the deviled eggs and the spinach dip as appetizers and it was delicious. I ordered the Thai chicken salad and prime rib for dinner. The Thai chicken salad was huge and very good. My prime rib was cooked medium rare and it was cooked perfectly. My loaded potato was big and full of all the things that makes it's a loaded potato. I ordered key lime pie for dessert. It was wonderful! I never had a bad meal or bad service whenever I go there. I definitely be coming back! read more

My husband and I were celebrating our 39, yes 39 years of marriage and chose Smokey River to celebrate! While we chose the right mate, we chose the WRONG place to celebrate! We asked for a romantic table but we're placed in a mediocre table. Then, 40 minutes after the salad/soup, we found ourselves waiting for steak while people, who had been there less time, we're getting their entrees! This was my favorite spot pre-COVID. I ordered over $90 in food. I wasn't expecting to cook it myself at home. None of the food for the exception of the garlic potatoes and the carrot cake was up to part. I was really disappointed because this was/is my favorite restaurant. I ordered meatloaf for a family of 4 and was only given enough mushroom sauce for 3 pieces of meatloaf when there was 8. I also ordered spinach dip and gouda mac and cheese. Very disappointed, it tastes nothing like what is served in the restaurant. I don't mean to bash them but I'm going to say yesterday was a bad day for take out. When I go back I will only eat in the restaurant so I can send it back when my $90 meal is not right. read more

Not at all what I expected from this usually high performing restaurant. My family decided to visit Stoney River for brunch for the first time. We usually only go for dinner or after work drinks.. The service level was just not the same and considerably below expectations for this level of restaurant. If I wanted the Perkins experience I would have been glad to pay the Perkins price but for 3 times the cost you have an expectation. For one, when a hamburger is ordered medium well and comes out mooing, something is wrong. The bartenders obviously has no idea how to make a gin martini. It was had to be made twice and still wasn't right. I told my tale of woe to a friend that had a similar experience with a steak that was super pricey and mostly fat. Never got our appetizers. Steak was HORRIBLE, bathrooms DISGUSTING. Server never even came back to give us utensils to eat our food after a food runner served us our food. Told her once she came back that we never got our soup & she said "oh gotcha" then a manager comes out and said he will bring us the French onion soup we ordered. He asked if there was anything else we needed. We did need another drink because we were empty. Well guess what! Never got them until our server magically appeared after we were left with no drink and no utensils & we asked about the drinks we ordered & she said he never told her. Not the best, not the worst. Decided to get out for a bite to eat on a very rainy Saturday evening to break the monotony of watching football all day. Had reservations was properly greeted and seated very quickly, restaurant was oddly not busy for a Saturday night at 6pm, so reservations may not have been necessary. Our selections arrived rather quickly, I had the 16oz prime rib well done with a pound of potato with the normal trimmings of cheese, sour cream and salt. Prime rib was cooked to my specifications and looked delicious but could have used a bit more seasoning. My cousin had the ribeye, a crab cake, broccoli and Macaroni with Gouda cheese. The crab cake arrived at room temperature and fell way short of the $17 dollar price tag, the broccoli was crunchy and the macaroni was a tad undercooked, the ribeye like the rest of the food could have used a bit more seasoning. The restaurant itself was very nice with a full compliment of wines, seating and decor is very chic and compliment the upscale Saddle Creek very nicely. A few tweaks to the seasoning and better pot to plate service would make this place a winner. The house is located in the up market part of Memphis with some luxury stores around - a nice place to visit with family and friends. The Ribeye is their best seller and definitely worth the experience. The wine list is not exhaustive but complements the food - and that adds to the experience. Today my review has been long postponed on my part. Finally I am reviewing the 9$ cup of lobster bisque I've had several times. I've finally come to a conclusion that warrants a review. This bisque is overpriced....seriously. I'm basing this off both flavor and texture. If anyone has been ever so blessed to dine at Coastal Fish Company you would know that Stoney is playing tee ball while Coastal is major league when it comes to lobster bisque. I will say the bias is that Coastal is a seafood place, but that shouldn't have a say in the validity of this review. Stoney's bisque, as pictured, may look nice but it lacks the important bisque aspect - thick and creamy. This bisque is rather thin and I mean borderline Campbell's soup thin. Clearly the lobster portion is a rough chop of a tail/ claw that it just put on top before serving but I had to break it up a bit. Next is flavor, it's doesn't smack you in the face like Coastal, instead it just ever so slightly has that "New England" vibe to it. When I taste Coastal it's like I could drink the stuff as it was a warm milkshake, that might sound gross but it's that good. The moral of this review is in opposition to the 9$ I pod for just a small cup. This warrants maybe a 6$ price tag at best. If you want real bisque I have already mentioned where to go. "Why is this guy roasting bisque and nothing else?" Because that's what Yelp is for. As far as everything else they serve it's very basic I.e. it's a chain....this is obvious. The service: OUTSTANDING, nothing at all leads me to knock their bartenders, hosts, and servers. You will always find great service, BUT whatever is coming out of the kitchen is overpriced and laughable if you enjoy good quality food like myself. I hope this review finds you well. read more

I was so disappointed. The bar forgot my cocktail. My steak did not come out as ordered. I ordered the recommended coffee filet medium rare and was served something else. The server removed the plate and left my side of spinach. He then said he'd bring me a fresh side with my correct steak. The filet came out about 6 minutes later but was very rare. He took it back again to cook it properly. By this time my side was cold. He returned with my steak on a plate and my friends asked for a new warm side dish to go with it. The table had finished eating. I ended up eating two bites and packed it up. The server then brought a piece of cake for our trouble.
