For the times that I want fast seafood, Stonington's is the place to go. It's a small storefront restaurant in a strip mall in front of the Walmart on Kirkman. You order at the counter and they will either bring your order to your table or you run back up to get your food. It's very clean, no pungent scent of seafood, spacious, and has a good amount of foot traffic. It's usually quiet enough for a group to have a meeting or for friends to hang out and have conversations in which you can hear each other. There are booths and regular tables so large groups are no problem. The menu is a bit limited to fish, crab cakes, shrimp, chicken, and sides. That's quite ok as everything on their menu is delicious. Their shrimp are butterflied, seasoned well, and fried to perfection. The baked Mac & cheese is a great consistency with lots of good flavors. My very favorite is the cornbread. I could eat a pan of it alone! For $29.00 you get two eight piece shrimp meals that includes two sides, drinks and an order of onion rings. For sides we ordered the cornbread, mac & cheese, fries and coleslaw. We added a side of red beans & rice ($2.55) and a crab cake. ($4.70) Their cornbread is very popular but it was the first time that I tried it. It is sweet and moist. My best friend told me about this place being a whole in a wall and has the best fried shrimp and the SAUCE is Awesome!!!! Let's say she was spot on! It's a reasonable size fried butterfly shrimp and their homemade slight spicy tartar sauce. To top it off, we tried their onion rings... My boyfriend ordered the mac & cheese and cornbread with their chicken tender platter. The chicken tenders themselves were super moist and the breading was really light. Most chicken tenders tend to be a little on the heavier side with the breading, but their breading was light and actually had a nice flavor to it with some seasoning in it. I tried their shrimp platter eight piece with the cornbread and their onion rings. Eight pieces was plenty enough for me I couldn't even finish it, but I would highly recommend to try their shrimp. The shrimp were juicy and the onion rings were light with a tangy dipping sauce. Both of us really liked their cornbread. The cornbread had a little bit of honey glazed on top just as they are lightly pan frying it. They are fresh shrimp you can taste. Shrimp is butterfly cut and wet breaded. The bread has some seasoning that makes this the best fried shrimp I have. The cost is in the high side, one shrimp about a dollar. However, it is is worth the price. After you have one of this baby, you know you are going to get dozen more. This is most lightly batter shrimp I have and super good. The restaurant is almost like a fast food store set up. I would encourage you to eat there. I have it to go when I drive back to Tampa. The chicken had a completely different coating that made it quite delicate, compared to the more traditional batter of the shrimp. The sides were good, too, especially the side salad, which had lots of interesting ingredients; the mac and cheese, which had been baked in a little pie tin; and the corn bread, which had been fried on one side. Onion rings were rather greasy. The operative word here is, of course, "fried". Almost everything is. But for a splurge it's very good. Note this is not "fast" food. The side that we completely fell in love with was the cornbread. I have never had such a soft, buttery, amazing piece of cornbread. I truly want to buy a full pan of it. Easily the best cornbread that I have ever had, probably the best I will ever have. Definitely do not sleep on those sauces. They make everything perfect. Aside from the food, the service is great and the place is constantly kept clean. This place is so fire. So it's very casual and kinda feels like a fast food place without a drive-thru. Most of the people that came in while we were eating were taking their food home to enjoy. I ordered the fried shrimp and fish combo with the cornbread and mac and cheese. We waited for about 10 minutes and boy was it worth the wait. Everything was piping hot and fresh. Had to sit on it for a few minutes to let it cool before I could eat it and it was torture. Finally I got to eat the fish and dipped it in the remoulade that came with it- heaven!!! Even though this is a shrimp place I have to say the cornbread is THE BEST I have ever had! It's extremely moist and buttery with the perfect amount of sweetness, saltiness, and of course, corn. I used to visit this location pretty frequently between 2015 and 2016. I came here on a Friday afternoon recently and I'm happy to say that the quality has not changed much. I ordered the fried shrimp lunch special with cornbread, macaroni and cheese, as well as a side of onion rings. I think the shrimp and sauce were a really great combination and I also feel like the shrimp wasn't overcooked which was a plus. The macaroni was packed with flavor, not extremely salty and had the right amount of cheese. The onion rings were on the skinny side and I do feel like they were fried a little bit too much so I didn't particularly enjoy those but the sauce did make them better. The cornbread was on the sweeter side it was also moist. I really enjoyed it though if you're not a fan of sweet cornbread it might be a little bit different but with everything mixed together it tasted even better. I do wish the portion sizes were a bit bigger. The interior of the restaurant was a little bit messy but I think it was one of their busier hours.
