Whoever made the decision to rearrange every single thing in the store during a pandemic made a very bad call. It's bad enough that we have to wear masks and all the aisles are one way, I know that's not their fault, but now everyone is in the store 3 times longer because no one knows where anything is! And it makes it much harder for people to adhere to the one way aisles when we all keep having to go back for things we missed. Really stupid timing! That being said, I've encountered many very friendly employees and usually have a pretty decent shopping experience, until they moved everything around. However, there have been several times when I've gotten home and realized something I bought was past the sell by date - sometimes by a long time. So check the dates! read more

I want to give a shout out to the Manager, Charlene, for being exceptionally nice & going above and beyond today! My daughter and I stopped in quick today to pick up some things for her birthday & Charlene was running a table for kids to decorate cookies. She invited my daughter over & not only was she pleasant to speak with & had a warm inviting demeanor, when she found out it was my daughter's birthday....She went over to the Service Desk, got on the overhead speaker and wished her a wonderful birthday! My daughter was on cloud 9! Way to make her feel extra special today! Thank you for being so wonderful! read more

Had to give this place 5 stars on account of Ed Paglia. Unbelievable customer service - I asked for my favorite ice cream (Rebel) to be stocked and wasn't given the most 'customer friendly' response by one of the staff. Ed called me a few days later, apologized, and ensured that the product would be on shelves. He called me again within a few minutes to tell me they just got it. Thanks Ed! read more

Oh, East Haven. The land of big 80s perms and even bigger attitudes. I asked the lady in the bakery if they had any "regular old cheesecakes." You know, a figure of speech. All I could find was chocolate or strawberry cheesecake. You know what she said to me? "We don't have any old cheesecake. It's all fresh." And then gave me a dirty look before pointing to where I could find the "regular old cheesecake" I was looking for. Then she starts wheeling a cart of baked goods away from me, and I hear her saying it again..."we don't have any old cheesecake." Geez louise lady. I don't know if she was being serious or if that was just East Haven humor. I'm going to hope it was the latter. read more

Go anywhere but here! Went with my daughter & grandson for our weekly shopping, which is not usually at a S&S because of their high pricing. Had an item to return but there was only 1 person at customer service & long lines the entire time we were in store. Finally went to self check out but only 1 lane opened. Started scanning my order, after about 6 items it wouldn't let me scan & said the item needed help??? Light flashed for assistance, no one came & we waited 3-4 mins. I politely went to customer service & said "excuse me is there anyone covering the self register"? The first time I was ignored, the second request was met with an "I heard you mame I'll be with you when I'm done with these people, I'm only one person!" I asked if there was a manager who could help because we need to get kids off the bus? Ignored again! Went looking for manager on the front line & asked a few cashiers I passed if there was a manager. Ignored! So I loudly said "is there a manager that can help us over here!" No one answered, no one came! Another woman who was upset over something said " This is terrible, there's no one to help us out!" She was being reprimanded by another cashier! My daughter & I looked at each other in disbelief because now 15 mins had gone by with no help, so we threw up our hands & said "let's go!" We left our 2 full baskets of groceries & started to leave when the first cashier finally walked over & cleared my register. Once again I got "mame'd" & told "your register is ready!" but I said it's too late we have to get kids off the bus." We went in the car & literally cried out of frustration & embarrassment! We felt defeated that we planned our time & left after an hour with nothing! My daughter had to go out later when her husband came home just to grab something for dinner & I went to another store & did my shopping all over again! How humiliating & inconvenient! Corporate will be getting a call! We will never go to this store again! read more

For people living in East Haven or the East Shore of New Haven, this store is mainly worthwhile to go to for the sake of convenience. The prices are a little high, but not any higher than other similar chains in the area. Recently, the store has added huge advertisements on the back side of most carts, which you cannot avoid seeing as you shop on everyone else's carts. This is a huge insult, because customers are not there to be moving billboards for Stop and Shop to rent out to advertisers. After years of shopping at this store, I am done with it. read more

Selection gets more and more narrow. They seem to favor only a few brands, and choices are really limited. The produce section: how uninspiring!!! Now matter what season it's the same of zucchini, eggplant, nasty, bagged green beans... I'm bored! How about some fresh beets, when they're in season! How about some shelling beans (god forbid!)! That's what happens when you purchase from mega-corporate farms. Oh, and one of the produce guys recently told me (when I was looking for scallions) that leeks were the same thing. The same thing. Everything is always fresh, everyone is so friendly at this location. The manager Doug is extremely kind and helpful.

This place is a life saver.they close around 11.if I ever run out of something I go straight to there.

I have been going to Stop & Shop for years since it's the closest supermarket to my home. It has been sufficient for my needs, but nothing to rave about, especially the customer service. Employees have always seemed detached and disengaged from customers. I had the opportunity to shop at Big Y over the last couple of weeks because of the employee strike at Stop & Shop. I immediately noticed the difference in service, which was a few steps above S & S, especially at the fish and meat counters. Big Y seems to have knowledgeable and interested people dedicated to those departments. While visiting S & S today I visited the fish department. The one male employee behind the counter saw me but left to go to the back room. I assumed he'd be back soon, but when 10 minutes had passed I asked a couple of other employees who were bringing carts to the back room if they would please ask someone to come out and help me and another customer who had joined me. A few minutes later, a female employee, who appeared extremely put out and angry said "Next!" Without making any eye contact, she tried to fulfill my order and became visibly frustrated when she could not slide back the door of the refrigerator and pulled it off rather violently and it fell to the floor. She asked me if I wanted anything else but by that time I had had it and couldn't end the interaction fast enough. After today, I will no longer be shopping and Stop & Shop and will be doing all of my shopping at Big Y. Stop & Shop leadership needs to make significant changes so that their employees not only want to be there but are engaged and want to provide solid customer service to their customers. read more

This Stop and Shop is okay. Stop and Shop itself is expensive. This location has some friendly employees, but rather slow ones as well. The downside to this location is that it is smaller, so they have a smaller selection of products versus their larger stores, in say North Haven or Wallingford. read more

This store is very expensive and they offer very few good values. I had shopped there fairly often but they have some very arrogant help. About half the help needs to know where their job comes from. Others that work there are nice. My family is quite large and almost all of them have switched to the Shoprite. Hope someone shakes them up or else they will be going the way of Friendly's. read more
