Hallelujah, we finally got a Cajun seafood boil in Buffalo!! Let's start with the food and atmosphere- if you've never been to a restaurant like this, your food comes out in a bag and you eat with your hands. Just do it! I've read reviews with people upset about the lack of cutlery, or having to peel the shrimp heads off themselves... that's what these restaurants are all about!! Anyways, the shrimp and scallops were amazing! I always order it with all the seasonings combined (here I believe it's their house Cajun) and Storming Crab did not disappoint. There was so much garlic!! And they're not messing around with their spice levels! It took us a little while to acquire a server, but once we did, he was gold. His name was Ping and he just moved to Buffalo in May from Louisiana. He was fast, knowledgeable and very kind. We'll definitely be back! read more

This was the first time that we have been to this restaurant but I didn't expect much but I think that had to do with the previous tenants. My husband and I went for a date night dinner. It was finger licking delicious!!!! The waitress showed us how to peel/eat crawfish. It was extremely appreciated. The waitress answered any questions that we had and was really accommodating. The taste of the sauces was fantastic. My husband got crab house cajan with medium spice level. He said it was really good. I ordered a butter garlic with a mild level of spice. It was so yummy. We ate with our fingers and used a crazy amount of napkins. It was fun and we had some laughs after a flung crab leg meat all over myself. We would absolutely eat here again. P.S. If you go here and the waitress asks if you want your boil in the bag or dumped out, get it dumped out (they pour it out in a huge plate) so you can dip all your food in the sauce. YUM YUM read more

These places have been popping up everywhere lately and most of them are just ok. This one is good, not great. My kids loved it because of the graffiti all over the walls, but that really wasn't my thing. The seafood was better than some of the others, but not anything that wowed me, plus the prices are pretty high for what you get. Probably one of the best seafood boils in the area. Attentive, friendly staff. Going to a different seafood boil joint feels like cheating on a boyfriend. THAT'S how good this place is! Food is cooked perfectly every single time. Never have I had an issue with the food here. Storming Crab was a wonder addition to the Buffalo area and is so underrated. Seafood bread is absolutely amazing. On the oily side, but every bite is full of flavor. Never misses. Obviously everything about the entree is amazing. Appetizer was decent but the entree was lame!!!! I got ramen but it was spaghetti from I'm guessing The closest supermarket. The staff was friendly but I'm hungry now and their pleasantness won't fill my stomach. The highlight of the meal were the two Heinekens I had that came from a bottle. This restaurant was actually terrifying. We were seated immediately but waited over 10 minutes for our waitress to even bring us water, another 10 to take our actual drink order. At this time we were starving and confused about the menu, so we tried to place an order for appetizers with our drink order. Our appetizer came out before our drinks, because the drinks took 20 minutes to make. The oysters were not prepared the way I had ordered, they were chewy and had a strong fishy flavor. We actually had to leave, this restaurant was so horrible. The only reason I gave 2 stars was because we did not get a chance to actually taste the seafood boil. read more

This was my first time trying crawfish and snow crab in a cajun/creole style and it was an amazing experience. The service was quick and excellent, and the staff were extremely polite and helpful. They would come to our table often (but not too often) to make sure everything was going well and even taught us how to peel a crawfish! The food was fresh and amazing, we got the dinner combo number 4 which had a pound of crawfish, a pound of snow crab and a pound of shrimp, plus red potatoes, corn and sauce. This was more than enough for two people so you really don't need to order appetizers, especially that they bring a complimentary seafood bread at the beginning, which was super tasty! If you want a side, I'd definitely recommend the coleslaw because it's fresh and cool and cuts through all that meat and seafood (especially if you get it hot). Overall, an amazing and different experience! We will definitely go back. Make sure to dress casually, since it can get very messy and the sauce might get on your clothes! read more

I liked the food at storming crab I just thought it was a bit pricey. They're meals come with a pound of each item which is A LOT of food. I with half pounds were an option. There are so many of these places popping up that it's hard to differentiate. Everything was good but not outstanding in any way. They did have a cheesy seafood garlic bread that was fantastic. I'd go back just for that. Plus side full bar with pretty good drinks. Our server was awesome as he help us substitute things in our meal and told us how much of the new item we'd get for the same price. Most things come with crawfish and I'm not a fan so we substituted those out. Some different combinations would be helpful so people don't have to substitute so much. Overall it was good and I would go back but probably wouldn't be my first choice. read more

The food is good but the service is ridiculous. I ordered king crab legs but the waitress brought me snow crab. I had to argue with here and explain her what king crab looks like so she called another guy who told her that king crab should have spikes. C'mon if you work in seafood restaurants the first thing you know what kitchen nf crab looks like. Also, when I ordered fried calamari as an appetizer she told me that they don't have calamari so I had to open a menu and point it to her. I also got a soup which came after I finished eating crabs. This is quite a hike from my house but not only is it worth the 20 minute drive that requires passing the big blue water tower it is worth facing the bad memories of having a disagreement with a friend over dinner. The fresh flavorful seafood is cooked to utter perfection and the service is excellent!! I have learned that in winter an indoor crab boil can mace you out of your own kitchen so it's definitely best left to the professionals. Definitely looking forward to visiting again and again! This place was definitely different in terms of a dining experience. Going with a group is probably your best bet. We got seater I'm about 10 min I'm a Saturday which was pretty speedy, I asked for a drink menu but they only served beer which was a little confusing but fine none the less. The table was covered in a large sheet of paper for the mess that was about to ensue. The water dawned our bibs and brought us out some seafood bread which was pretty good but was 96% butter. But hey, who doesn't love butter? We ordered some oysters, calamari and a number 5 bake that consisted of crab, crawfish, and mussels. The side inside the bake were potatoes and corn. The calamari was cooked perfectly and had a old bay seasoning on both the batter and fries. The oysters were pretty low quality and were just lacking something to be desired. The best part was the main steam bag. The crab was juicy, the mussels were tender and the crawfish were just plain fun to eat. Everything that came out of that bake was awesome. The best part was that you could select heat level and what flavor you wanted so it can always be different when you go to eat there. I'm gonna give this place another shot and see what else they have to offer. read more

Best place for Cajun food in the city of Buffalo. Staffs are extremely friendly, and the food are extraordinary. We ordered two dinner combos plus a few appetizers, the portion size was more than enough to feed the six of us. We highly recommend the the garlic butter sauce, it brings out the flavor of the seafoods. The seafood are fresh and juicy. The facility is very new, we were offered to sign on the wall and leave our memories, which is a special experience. Our waiter Kevin offered the best service possible, he's very thoughtful and conversational. We will definitely visit again when we are in town next time!! read more

I enjoyed my experience is storming crab. I got the Cajun seafood bucket, I believe it was a number four. Had enough to last me two days, the portions are big, and they match the price that you paid. I did not like the gumbo or the seafood bread for many reasons, however the manager offered to take the gumbo off the bill. First of all, I can't get by the fact that the food was brought to the table in a large plastic bag! Really?! Talk about poor presentation. Our waitress (a very nice young lady) had to ask us if we wanted a plate to put our food (or plastic bag) on. Our friend wanted to order the fried shrimp but was told it only came as Coconut shrimp. (Interpretation: they don't prepare it in the kitchen-it comes pre coated in coconut). Certainly doesn't give the impression of fresh seafood. Although, items are listed as "Market Price". I had the crawfish which was accompanied (in the plastic bag) by what probably amounted to a half potato and two small pieces of corn on the cob. The corn was tough and basically- terrible. The coke was served in a paper cup with a lid and straw. Really? You can't even bother with a plastic glass? My wife enjoyed her scallops. The complimentary seafood bread was tasty. Both couples tried the gumbo. Relatively small bowl but it was quite good. Our other friend ordered the 1 lb. of shrimp. They came as peel and eat (which was not mentioned on the menu). If Joe's Crab Shack (not my favorite but worlds nicer) couldn't make it on this exact spot, there is not a snowball's chance in hell this place will make it. Would I go back again? Absolutely not. Not even if someone else was paying the bill. I see they have other locations in Tennessee, Indiana, and Kentucky, with other locations "coming soon". Perhaps in those other locations there just are not the number of good seafood restaurants (or other restaurants serving seafood) that we have in the Western New York Area. Their customer service is really good! Ordered the dinner combo #1 and asked to replace the crawfish with shrimp head on. They ended up making the mistake of giving us shrimp head off (which costs more) but kept apologizing and told us we didn't need to pay extra for it. Love the free seafood bread, there's an option to purchase 4 for $5. When we wanted our food to go, they packed it up for us and even explained how to reheat the shrimp properly so that it wouldn't become too chewy, etc. The first and only seafood boil restaurant that i've tried in buffalo and it did not disappoint! Can't really compare it to the seafood boil restaurants at home in NYC but this is buffalo (lol) so it's good enough! read more

This was my first visit to Storming Crab. We had an excellent service by Christopher who thoughtfully explained the menu and how the seafood is brought in each day so it is fresh, the prices are located throughout the restaurant. They give an arsenal of tools to use with gloves and a bib. We ordered the seafood boil which included king crab, shrimp, clams, sausage, corn and potatoes. It is prepared made to order and you can easily share the meal with two people with leftovers. The food exceeded my expectations for freshness and taste. Definitely check it out! Excited to get some Creole food, especially seafood. Reasonable priced beer. I got a lb of snow crab legs, the misses got a dozen scallops. They came with red potatoes and corn. The corn was over done but had a nice spice that made it edible. Boudin balls and fried okra were the appetizer (great). My wife also had the gumbo with rice, she likes it, I thought it wasn't thick enough. No left overs...stuffed...yum. the place was a little loud at the beginning, but when it died down, much better. Took forever to pickup the credit card when we got the check, but just helped with the digestition of the food. Will stop by again when it the mood for seafood. read more

It's delicious!! The restaurant is still fairly new so I'm sure the staff are still adjusting and learning. They have some areas that they can improve on such as service but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and would still love to revisit this establishment. But overall, all of the staff that I have encountered were really nice and friendly. I shared a pound of shrimp and a pound of the snow crab legs with the Crab House Cajun sauce and it was absolutely delicious. The seasoning was on point, and each pound of seafood came with corn and potatoes. Each table also had complimentary seafood bread, which was really good as well. If seafood in a bag isn't your kind of thing, there is also fried seafood baskets and other things on the menu. Prices are reasonable for being a seafood place (comparable to the seafood boil spots in NYC, if not a tad bit cheaper!) I'd definitely come back again for another meal! read more

Our fav seafood place in town, always super flavorful and fresh. Love the complimentary seafood bread when you dine in. We just got takeout (during the pandemic) for Nye and we were sad to see they didn't give us the seafood bread for free but you can always buy it if you're doing take out. My husband and I always split a boil, I think it's the number 3, after tax it comes to about $60, we don't think 30 a piece for a big bag that includes crab is a bad price at all and it's always plenty filling for two, maybe even three people. It would probably cost us that or more if we tried to make it ourselves. Love that they let you substitute things in the boils too (may upcharge you depending what it is though), we don't like crawfish and always sub them with brown or white clams. We've had their king crab, snow crab, mussels, both types of clams, head off shrimp and scallops, all have been great. The boils have sweet corn, red potatoes and a tiny bit of sausage. The sausage is really good and if you know you want more than just a couple small pieces of it in your boil I suggest adding a half pound of it, it's worth the extra $4. We were pleasantly surprised with our take out yesterday because we worried with the wait on Nye our food might be cold or waterlogged by the time we finally got it home it was warm and just as fresh as it would be the timee we ate at the restaurant, quite impressive since it's tough to do seafood to go! My favorite part of storming crab has got to be their addictive house Cajun seasoning for the boils. The garlic-butter-cajun mixture us what dreams are made of. read more

I have never had a more disgusting meal! I got the lobster bake with clams sausage and corn with crawfish. I've never had crawfish and definitely never will again. The sausage was slivers not chunks, the corn was completely over cooked and so was my lobster. The only thing worse than bad food is bad service, We got both ! I was really looking forward to going there and I ignored bad reviews cuz I really wanted to try it. I had never had a seafood broil and really wanted one. I will never ignore bad reviews again! On there busiest days you'll never wait long to be seated or served, waiters and waitresses are so kind and are willing to explain the menu to you throughly. Good eats! The seasoning and the heat was perfect. We got the seafood in the bag for about $52, and we were able to substitute dungeness crabs to snow crabs for a small fee. This was plenty for 2 people to share. We tried the boudin balls. They were ok. But I'm originally from Texas, so these did not compare. They were small in size (8 count), and lacked some flavor. My hubby also tried the oysters (not that good), and my mil the crab cakes(not that wonderful-needed seasoning). Overall, serve was good and the wait staff made sure that our party was doing ok!
