What a warm, welcoming restaurant! It was like coming home & seeing family. Two staff members told us, "Jenny will be right with you to seat you." Rick was our server and he was so patient! As it was my inaugural visit, he waited while I poured over the menu, from the tasting menu to the full menu and back. Before I even made a decision of food or drink, I knew I'd be coming back! We started with hurricanes and the Crawfish Andouille Cheesecake with Wood Grilled Smoked Shrimp and Meuniere Butter. From the tasting menu, I enjoyed the roasted beet & goat cheese salad, the jambalaya and the Beef Tournedos - Grilled Tenderloin Medallions, Roasted Yukon Gold Potatoes, Sauteed Rapini, and Bearnaise Sauce. We hesitated going to this Dick & Jenny's since we live right outside of New Orleans but a local we met encouraged us to give it a try. We definitely were not disappointed. The waitress was very friendly and the owner Jenny came to our table to welcome us. We told her where we were from and she related the story how her family landed back in Grand Island, her home town. My husband had the blackened catfish with corn grits and crawfish. I had the lasagna with andouille. Both were fantastic. We also shared the Beignet Ice Crean with ganache. Very loud place, difficult to hear the people talking at your own table, and just a tiny bit cramped. The dinner as a whole took a really really long time, about 2 hours from sit down to signing the bill. The entire menu looks so great though, I can't wait to come back and try more! Corn bread 8/10 I don't like cornbread normally but I wanted to give it a try. It's not bad actually. Little smoother texture than most, which I like better. I would eat more of this. Scones 10/10 Good, very crumbley and soft. Good with some butter too. Squad platter: - Bacon jam 10/10 amazing! Not super jammy. More of a bacon flavor, which is awesome. - Deviled eggs 8/10 good flavor, but texture wise the filling was a little dry. I did add some bacon jam to the eggs too, it was good together. - Smoked shrimp 10/10 You get the smokiness of the shrimp and the sauce on it is a good mustardy sauce. - Fried green tomato 8/10 Thin sliced. Not super crispy or crunchy. Sauce is good, big mayo flavor coming through. Reminds me a little like a super super mild chipotle mayo ish? - Jalapeño hush puppies 9/10 good texture, Very light and fluffy. Not as dense as a normal hush puppy which was nice. The lemon butter was good, not super lemony, and it started breaking the longer it sat on the plate. - Basil Risotto was cooked perfect, soft and delicious, it was like a pesto flavor. Dick and Jenny's is a true treasure. I'd had a long and good day, and definitely needed food to match it. We had reservations and were seated immediately in this perfect little spot that felt private and cozy. I chose to get the tasting menu they were featuring, which included soups (the gumbo was to die for), an appetizer (cordon blue croquettes, which I had some issue with texture wise, but that was entirely me and not at all the quality of the food), and soul rebel chicken (fell off the bone). To top it off we got desserts, which are all made on-site, and it was the perfect ending. Had the opportunity to check this place out for the second time. We went out on a very rainy night and it was not too crowded. Service was excellent. People treat you like family. It seems like there's lots of regulars there. We ordered the three-course dinner and strategically made it so we could share all the food. I enjoyed the soup duo, the jambalaya and grilled andouille (a little spicy), and Julia Child's beef bugandy. We also had the nicoise salad, clams, and maple BBQ smoked baby back ribs-they were my favorite! Everything was tasty. I particularly appreciated that they brought each dish out after we finished the one before and didn't make us feel rushed. The meal started with scones and cornbread. The scones were amazing, they tasted more like butter cookies. The waitress even gave us some to take home. We wanted to order dessert but we were way too full. We enjoyed some cocktails, including a maple Manhattan, the best gin and tonic, the sidecar and an espresso martini. They were all good. My only complaint is it smells like an old building, might I say, like an old ladies house. But walking in it just smells like delicious food!!! read more

Stopped here with a friend after she chose Dick & Jenny's based off of their 2023 restaurant week menu. I was so excited she selected this place because it has been on my list of places to try for quite a while. Restaurant week specials included $6 glasses of NYS wine, which we indulged in some rose and cab franc. The main dinner special was an appetizer and two entrees for $65. Prior to our appetizer being served, we were given a piece of corn bread and a scone. They were good. The scone was more like a cookie from one of those tins that your grandma has filled with anything but cookies. It was delicious. We decided to go with the platter as our appetizer. It included 4 fried green tomatoes, 4 shrimp, a bacon jam salad, 2 halves of deviled eggs, and 2 hushpuppies. Everything was tasty, but I really enjoyed the deviled eggs and the fried green tomatoes. The remoulade sauce was outstanding. For my main entree, I went with the Julia Child Beef Burgundy. I am very happy with my selection. I ended up bringing much of it home because the appetizer really filled me up. I had it for lunch the next 2 days. My friend went with the leg and belly, which was a leg of duck and pork belly. She seemed to really enjoy her selection as well. The service was great. The ambiance was welcoming and comfortable. I would like to go back and enjoy other items from the menu. I would definitely go out of my way to eat here. This is a great location, and delicious food, and the vibes are great. This was a nice, off the main road dining experience. The bartender provided a little bit of the background on the owners which added to the experience. Although he was rushing around getting drinks for others, I would have probably enjoyed a taxable versus sitting at the bar. With the large menu options I chose Dinner tasting They started with cornbread and honey sea salt scones which were so awesome, I had to ask for seconds. Great flavor and baked to perfection. First course was the Dueling soups - Tomato basil bisque and chicken tomato andouille gumbo. These had great flavor and I wish I had more. Second course was the Crab cake and fried green tomatoes. I wasn't a big fan of this since it was a bit cold and the overall flavor didn't hit home. The tomatoes were cold and the roumalade wasn't as tasty as I would have hoped. Third and final course was the Monk fish - this was a very mild fish with great flavor surrounding it. It was complimented with white rice , crushed tomatoes, chives, and carrots which added a ton of flavor. The fish was done perfectly, tender and not overly cooked. The over price for the tasting was $38 and with the $7 beer it was a well priced experience. I would return for another experience but they do not offer a military discount. read more

This has to be the best restaurant in Grand Island, and one of the best in the wider Buffalo/Niagara Falls area. The people who work there have been happy and friendly every time we have been there, the food is wonderful and unique, unlike anything you can find elsewhere in the area. All the dishes we have tried have been outstanding. You never know what new thing might be on the menu, and the food and the atmosphere are both reminiscent of New Orléans, where Dick and Jenny emigrated from. I don't know if we have ever met Dick, but Jenny is always generous with her time and has a real gift of hospitality. This is a welcoming place. Once you have made your selections for your meal, if you are unsure of a wine pairing, just ask her. She knows her wines and has NEVER steered us wrong! If you have a chance, attend one of their wine dinners. The food and wines are epic, you get to have dinner with interesting people you may never have met before but will want to see again, and, like every visit we have made there, you will leave with a warm glow. I finally got to Dick & Jenny's for dinner. They had a special 3-course tasting menu for only $38! You could pair it with wine for an additional $16 as well. I started with an endive salad. My second course I opted for the jambalaya with the sausage. It was perfectly spicy and such a generous serving. Lastly, I got Julia Child's beef Burgandy. The beef was so tender and was served over creamy mashed potatoes. The entire meal was so enjoyable. Service, despite being packed was VERY attentive and friendly. BFF and I treat each other to dinner for our birthdays each year. We have a tradition of doing Mexican, since neither of our husbands is particularly a fan. I got the feeling that for my birthday this year BFF had something else in mind, so I told her to surprise me. This necessitated her picking me up, because how could it be a surprise if she told me where to meet? When she started heading north, I had no idea where we were heading. When we ended up on Grand Island, I was totally perplexed, then totally thrilled to pull in at Dick & Jenny's. I had heard such good things about this place a long time ago, then it kind of fell off my radar. Housed in a former home, D & J's is broken up into several spaces, with walls loaded with all manner of tchotchkes, not the least of which are the dozens of hand-painted plates, which we were told had been produced from designs submitted by customers. Our server was a doll, and a total pro. She was able to answer all our questions, make suggestions, and just make us feel welcome and cared for all around. Friend opted for the chicken and rib combo, a half rack of ribs accompanied by a confit leg quarter, with a choice of two sides. Quite the platter of food! She enjoyed it immensely. I couldn't resist the brown butter and sage gnocchi dish. There's a lot going on here: gnocchi cooked in brown butter and sage, tossed with asparagus and portobellos, resting on butternut squash puree and topped with parmesan, romano and pine nuts. Whew! It. Was. Delicious. (Side note: usually it also contains prosciutto. Not in my wheelhouse.) I've never been a fan of oysters, but I was talked into splitting an order of Drago's char-grilled oysters. (Drago's is a group of family-run seafood restaurants in Louisiana and Mississippi, named for the founder.) Drago's recipe consists of oysters topped with garlic and herb butter, parmesan and romano cheeses, then char-grilled to melty cheese goodness. Thank you, Drago. You got me to not only eat oysters, but really savor them. This was a truly memorable feast. I highly recommend! read more

The food is consistently excellent. The service is fantastic. As a vegan, they are always happy to accommodate me. Generally, some of the salads and the gnocchi is easily adjustable, and quite good. Although a little more variety would be nice, I'm grateful that they are accommodating. Many places simply are not willing to accommodate (I'm looking at you, Coco). Vegan bread would be fantastic, or breadsticks. But other than my body's inability to process animal proteins, I think this place is fantastic. As far as ambience, the bar section is much more lively than the dining room. Going again next week so will add photos then. read more

Food was excellent (we ordered two of the speciality sandwiches with fruit and fries as sides, couple of drinks and enjoyed the music from the pianist who played the 2 hours we were there! Service was great, even though they were short staffed our waitress was over worked but she still had a big smile on her face the entire time. We went there for our 38th wedding anniversary. I put "anniversary celebration" in the special event spot on the online form. They greeted us with two glasses of champagne. From start to finish the experience was fantastic.We did the taster menu.Two soups for Beth, tomato basil and andouille rice to start.Iceburg salad for me with feta and grape tomatoes.Second course for Beth was ravioli with roasted red pepper ravioli and house made onion rings.Buffalo poutine for me. I admit a weakness for blue cheese and Franks. Main course for Beth was Island Chicken with lemon, artichoke salsa and chardonnay butter. I had hanger steak with I don't even know what but awesome. Sticky toffee pudding was the only disappointment because Shamus in Lockport was worthy of Ireland. D&J's was not. Recently came here for dinner to celebrate a milestone and LOVED it! What an incredible gem of New Orleans inspired cuisine nestled in a little corner on Grand Island. For dinner: 1) Gumbo = deliciously made, comforting with a great roux and well spiced andouille sausage. 2) Crab dib = this was alright, I could skip it next time. 3) Shrimp and grits = HELL YES! Even if you're not a grits lover, the shrimp and grits here is butterly flavorful and deliciously presented. For an entree, I had the crawfish etouffee which was perfectly creamy, buttery with a rich flavorful with crawfish and andouille sausage. My friend had the duck breast and he loved it as well. Visiting family in the area, my cousin brought us to her favorite place and it did not disappoint! Friendly and helpful staff, comfortable unpretentious decor/vibes and a unique food and drink menu. We really loved the cornbread and fried green tomatoes. So many delicious sounding entrees that my husband and I split a pistachio encrusted pork cutlet (excellent!) and beef borguigon ala Julia Child (also excellent). The beignets we split for dessert were also delicious and the portion generous. I can't wait to go back! read more

This was our second visit. We last dined here probably about 10 years ago and I've always wanted to come back. It is just a bit of a drive so we haven't. We tried a couple different things on the menu and mixed drinks. Everything was great! I really enjoyed Jenny's salad and the deviled eggs. I had half a salad and it probably could have been a stand alone meal; however, I also ordered a crab cake po boy. Everything was served timely and fresh. The servers were attentive. Not as good as I remember. It was pretty easy to get in tonight. We didn't need a reservation and didn't need to wait. I thought it was odd. This used to be a place you had to make a reservation. Start with the great - friendliness. From the phone call to the servers and hostess, everyone was super friendly. Our server, Bubba, was a nice guy. Friendly and knowledgeable. Cleanliness and atmosphere. I'm giving each of these a half star. There's a lot of dust. Like a lot. Everywhere. There's just so much clutter in the restaurant I'm sure it's hard to keep it all clean. The atmosphere is very loud. There are so many hard surfaces. Just nothing to absorb the noise. When you walk in the front door you are blasted with a 90° hallway. I almost turned around and left as I thought the restaurant would be that hot, too. I mean I love the creole cuisine but I don't wanna feel like I'm there. The food. Gosh I was disappointed. It just wasn't what it used to be. I started off with gumbo and that was amazing. But my entree was just mediocre. I got the chicken and ribs platter. Honestly, Dickey's barbecue is better for half the price. The potatoes didn't have much flavor and the greens weren't great. We had beignets as well. They were undercooked and doughy on the inside. I was sad. I loved this place a few years ago. We had an excellent dinner experience at Dick and Jenny's. The food was all top-notch. Cornbread and shortbread and scones are complimentary. Rather than get an entree, my wife and I shared several starters. The squad platter featured 4 Green tomatoes, 4 smoked shrimp, two jalapeno hushpuppies, two deviled eggs, and Southern slaw with bacon Jam. It was all delicious! The gumbo was also very good. The shrimp and grits were the best I have had. They included sauteed onions and some new orleans-style spice. The jambalaya was a good-sized portion and featured some spicy andouille sausage. We were fortunate to visit Dick and Jenny's during restaurant week. Therefore we were able to choose an appetizer, main course. Cornbread- free for the table, it was a little sweet, and there were other little crumpets in the basket Pork belly appetizer- melt in your mouth, large portion. At this point, I was already full. Seafood "cheesecake"- This was called a cheesecake so there was certainly cheese in it but it was more like a quiche. The crust was flakey and the insides were rich and creamy. Ribs, and chicken BBQ Platter- I remember preferring the chicken to the ribs, but my partner preferred the ribs to the chicken. The sauce was sweet and spicey and the chicken fell of the bone and had a spicey rub to it. Both meats were smokey and juicey and there was SO MUCH food on the plate. It was served with grains and collards. At this point, we were so full, we thought we were gonna die. Sticky toffee pudding- it was warm, and cold because of the ice cream served it it. It had great texture to it because it had a little chewyness and crunchy edges to the pudding. It was very sweet and caramely. You know it was super delicious when we still thought it was amazing despite how incredibly full we were. If you're on a budget and can't afford to go out for dinner, take your date here to try the sticky toffee pudding because it is out of this world and you can't make it at home. read more

Went for supper one night. Arrived about 5 minutes before they opened and there was a line of folks waiting for them to open. Sat at the bar. Great service and friendly staff. The place had an English country pub vibe to it. The food we had was great. The only downside was most of the offerings had a Cajun style slant. Though honestly that wasn't surprising given the owners' restauranteur lineage. I do wish they had a better selection of beer. Will we go back? For sure. read more
