Update. Story Point has taken extra efforts to clean up the water damage and make things right for my parents who were moved into another room during the mishap. I'm hoping future security will be on top of issues and inform residents quickly as what has happened and if any action needs to be taken. My parents have been told there is another room that has opened up and no longer need to be crammed into a one bed one bath. Thank you for correcting these issues. The staff at Story Point are very friendly. The only suggestion I have is to create a heart diabetic healthy eating guideline on the menu. Thank you. read more

I waited a few months after my dad passed away so I wouldn't be emotional in my review. For one there is no NURSES HERE to take care of your loved one. Some of the reviews aren't telling the truth or they plainly don't have a clue. There is one medical person who they call a nurse but he has nothing to do with the care of your loved one. IF YOU HAVE A LOVED ONE THAT NEEDS DAILY MEDICAL ATTENTION AND CARE -- STORY POINT IS ABSOLUTELY NOT THE PLACE TO BRING THEM. The story point staff managers are great and they are there to talk to and help with your situations but they don't do the carrying of your loved ones. MOST OF THE CARE STAFF IN ASSISTED LIVING ARE "TEMP"!!! They are people going through training. THEY DO NOT CARE OR EVEN ATTEMPT TO CARE ABOUT YOUR LOVED ONE. Some are foreigners and can't understand them. They have ZERO knowledge of anyones medical needs. When my dad was in memory care for a while and some of the girls would be sitting in the corner on their phones after 5:00. I was at this home every single day !!!! I know what went on. Just so you know the SALES women IS A GOOD SALES PERSON !!!!! Once you commit and she gets her commission she didn't have anything to do with me or my husband. So if you're just looking for a place to live and you don't need medical attention daily This may be the place for you. It's a beautiful building and has great entertainment. Let me be clear - the management staff is wonderful. The few ladies that have been there forever are wonderful. THE TEMPS THAT COME AND GO IN ASSISTED LIVING AND MEMORY CARE THAT SUPPOSED TO CARE FOR YOUR LOVED ONES ARE HORRIBLE! Can't say it enough. read more

The delivered breakfasts are terrible. The eggs are always cold and flavorless and the toast is soggy. We canceled the service then met with staff. With assurance from them we started the service only to cancel again after two days. They just can't do breakfast and they won't admit it. read more

My daughter works at this wonderful community. It has just the type of atmosphere, that I myself would enjoy. The different places for meals and the variety offered, would make a huge impact. They always have lots of fun activities on & off site. They strive to make it your home. read more

If you love the thought of your confused loved one being left to aimlessly wander into other vulnerable residents' personal rooms, then #StorypointRockford is for you! If you are comfortable with confused residents left to enter your vulnerable family member's room, without permission, at all hours of the day and evening, from day of admission, until the night their very last breath is taken, then #StorypointRockford is perfect. If the thought of an unattended, confused stranger, entering your actively dying family member's room under the "care" of hospice and #Laurushomecare and #StorypointRockford staff, then you've found the perfect home. I've seen reviews on other sites that rave about this place but I don't think they're rating the "Memory Care" portion of this facility. My mother has Alzheimer's and while she is still ambulatory with some cognitive abilities, in her first month there it was clear we'd made a mistake. Being this was her very first placement in a facility, one would've hoped there would've been extra attention provided to transitioning her. Instead, within two weeks there was pressure to put her on an anti psychotropic medication. Despite filling out paperwork about her habits, likes/dislikes, methods for redirecting her, etc. in the end I think it was more for our comfort than hers. For example, we noted she has periodontal disease; left notes about her need to use mouthwash - she's rarely asked to brush her teeth (morning or night). No one seems to know she's not from the Grand Rapids area; that she drinks tea not coffee. Not to ask her if she wants a meal (she'll always say no). I created a binder with "the story of Mom" and photos of her with her husband and four kids; information about her dog(s), etc. no one seems to know a thing about her. Basic Dementia 101 skills such as how to handle the typical scenarios: 1. The aforementioned question about a meal or "if" she wants to participate in an activity ( http://dailycaring.com/how-to-talk-to-someone-with-alzheimers-use-short-direct-sentences/ ) 2. How to handle "I want to go home" ( http://dailycaring.com/3-ways-to-respond-when-someone-with-alzheimers-says-i-want-to-go-home/ ) 3. Behavioral issues ( http://www.alz.org/documents/national/brochure_behaviors.pdf ) - their response anti psychotropic meds. I'm not a trained caretaker yet Mom lived with me the past three years and it never occurred to me that a "Memory Care" unit wouldn't know how to handle these basic scenarios. On top of that, Mother had 2 falls within two months. Somehow, she never had a single fall in my home. We also had a visit to urgent care because she'd become so despondent. After 3 hours and several tests, it was confirmed she was dehydrated. My recommendation is to ask about staffing ratios. Ask about falls (because during one visit another resident had a fall). Ask about specialized training. Ask about how they track water intake. Granted they'll probably tell you what you want to hear but drop in - not during a pre-arranged tour where they can queue interaction between the staff and the residents. Drop-in several times both weekdays and weekends. During the day and in the evening (when the staff ratio will really drop). Ask about the use of drugs. I wish you luck. Luckily for us a private facility has opened up with a 3-to-1 ratio; where I can drop in ALL THE TIME. Basically this place is a glorified nursing home and not a "memory care" facility. We voiced our concerns and they fell on deaf ears. They feel they're trained and things are humming along but I beg to differ. read more

My father has lived at Story Point for going on three years. At first, like anyone, he was very hesitant to leave the home he had lived in since 1969. After an adjustment period he now calls Story Point home. The food is fantastic, my family frequently attends the third Sunday brunches. The staff are personable, caring and professional and per my fathers own statements "just fantastic". There are so many activities and outings that you can't help but find something you can fit into. This great attitude and environment really translates into happy Residents because just like the staff most of the Residents appear happy and are so friendly and welcoming. I recommend Story Point frequently to friends and neighbors with aging parents with full confidence that they will be as happy as we are. read more
