I was greatest kindly when I arrived and asked to sign a check in log stating my business and the time I arrived. I very much appreciate that process is in place. I arrived early and was offered tea, coffee, or water while I waited. I was given freedom to look around the facility while I waited if I was interested in doing so. I found myself drawn to this really fun finch enclosure where you can watch the birds play. It was in the library and board game area. The facility was bright, well lit, clean, smelled great and marked with directional signs everywhere. When my scheduled time arrived for my tour I was greeted by Kristin with smiles and a welcoming handshake. She was very knowledgeable on the property and provided me with physical informational documents to take as well as information during our tour. Both the studio and one bedroom were in great condition. I appreciated that the balconies were cement not wood so it provided a safer more sturdy feeling. The dinning hall was also very impressive. The room itself had high ceilings with great architecture. Overall great trip and lots to think about.

This is the very best retirement community I have found in this state or any other…read more The facilities are beautiful. The dining room is splendid as if it is on a cruise ship. The food is always good. The service to the residents is top notch. Here they care about the individual and give them the best care. I highly recommend this place for those retiring to an assisted living facility.

Absolutely deplorable. Would not recommend this place to anyone. Do not believe "what you've…read moreheard". The aids require a ton more training and/or better vetting during recruitment and hiring. The administration is aloof and was contentious when discussing the care (or lack thereof) of our mother. Important note: The sales people are great! No doubt. But they aren't the ones providing the service. It's about revenue. Remember that! My siblings and I all now live out of state. We relied on a lot their former reputation. Our mother was not treated with dignity (left on the toilet unattended at times) and that was only when they "got around to" responding to her calls to use the restroom. She had multiple UTI's during her short time (6 months) and had fall related injuries that were not reported in acceptable detail or in a timely manner. (**And then later charged us for the wound care for injuries they didn't even deem necessary to share. Ridiculous) She felt like the moment she arrived, she was a burden to the staff. She was afraid to bother them and afraid to tell her children (us) so we "don't make it worse for her" The staff, especially evenings, were gruff and annoyed with her. ALL because she needed the very assistance she was paying to receive. Unacceptable. Whatever the reputation WAS prior to our decision to move her to this "premier senior facility" has long passed and in our experience, completely untrue today. Knowing what I know now, I would not let these people watch my dog overnight much less care for our mother one day longer. We have since moved her from this sad situation. After giving notice, we did not hear from the administration for almost a week and on the day we came with our truck, not one person there even asked why or where she was headed. Apparently They just let people come with a truck and take someone's entire belongings and don't ask a single question to stop by to ask anything. Trolly after trolly moving what was left of her personal items, (many missing with no follow up from PH) It was just more evidence that our mother was right about the complaints she would barely share. This is not written in an emotional state. We have since found her a better place. This is written as a warning and a plea to those who consider Porter Hills and take Yelp reviews under serious consideration. If you should choose this place for your loved one, plan on being VERY involved in the day to day needs, believe your loved one when they tell you about mistreatment and keep a close eye on the care they receive and more importantly, what they don't receive. I wish I had ONE kind thing to say. Honestly I do. However, there isn't anything I can point to. Due to the Yelp rating system, I'm force to even give one star. The stress and setbacks Porter Hills caused our mother and our family is impossible to overstate. Thankfully we were able to make a merciful and swift change before things became worse. Consider other options.

RUN...do not trust Maple Ridge Manor (Manistee) with the care of your loved one…read more The only positive comment about this facility is that it is beautiful. Beyond the beauty, it is lacking in every way. The staff are undertrained in providing dementia care and understanding the mind of person struggling with dementia. The management is unprofessional and seemingly unaware (although they've been informed) of the deep issues in care in the dementia wing. In the 36 days my loved one was under the care of Maple Ridge Manor the staff NEVER showered, changed incontinence clothing in morning, or prepared my loved one for bed. ALL care was provided by the family. Doors to the locked unit were often propped open, and the staff in the locked unit were often not present. (Yes, dementia residents were LOCKED in a wing without a caregiver. Yes, this was reported to the state.) Needless to say, the family felt the need to be present most hours of the day to ensure care. Of course, my loved one was moved to a new facility. In one week in the new facility, my loved one has been showered (it's not easy, but it happens), changed both a.m. and p.m., and care for without the help of family. My loved one's anxiety is decreasing and seems calmer. The family is beginning to leave for longer periods of time and trusts that care is happening. Maple Ridge Manor IS NOT the facility to trust with the care and love for your loved one.

Let me break it down for you. *Housekeeping I'm pretty sure the entire length of her stay nothing was cleaned in her room. Dusting, vacuum, tub, shower it was all filthy. *Dining room if your loved one naps through a meal they will miss that meal, no one comes to get your family member. It costs extra! They used to deliver water to each room a couple times a day. Then they had Hydration station down the hallway. So if your loved one isn't a person who likes to walk they will not get drinks throughout the day. *Management- the manager is unapproachable. He is not a friendly man and should not be managing a senior housing place. * Medical or Med techs. There were a couple good ones there. Who knows if they are still there. We had missing insulin. Most of her meds I took care of but did have them manage her diabetes. They didn't always take her blood sugar finger pokes or they didn't write them down. Because they didn't do all her meds they could not do a sliding scale for her insulin. She was taken by ambulance at least 4-5 times during her stay for falls. Usually because of UTI's because she wasn't drinking enough water. *Security~ the building is supposed to be locked down at night but I walked in several times after dark. * activities- there were a couple activity directors there during her stay. No one was ever successful in getting my MIL to join in. * maintenance- constant problems with her cable TV and no one at night seemed to want to help her. Leaky faucets, closet light that didn't work all the time. I would not recommend this place
