Repairs are accomplished while consulting and advising me so I get the best equipment I can afford. Also I get informed about what to expect in the near and long term so I can do preventive maintenance. In particular I have to mention Derek, a person in the service department of machinery row bicycles in Madison Wi. A great diagnostician, advisor and technician. The best in the business as far as I'm concerned.

The guy at the desk helped us find just the right bike for her. She didn't like the new ones, so he showed us one of his used bikes. She fell in love with a bright blue one (hard to find in girl's bikes!) I loved that he was able to tell me the pros and cons of different bikes, and that he knew what her size would be, and he held up the bike while she hopped up and sat on it, and he taught her how to use the gears. I asked if we could take it right away, and he said, no, the used bikes have to be checked over and oiled up before they are released. But he said it could be ready in time for our 1pm departure for the bike trip! The next day he called to say it was ready early, and when I went to pick it up, he carried it out for me, fixed my bike rack which I had not installed correctly, and made sure all my bikes were correctly placed. He loaned me a bungie cord, even though his store sells them. What a great store! We've been here before, buying a bike for my son, and bells, a basket, a portable bike pump, helmets, and knee and elbow pads. We've drooled over the bike racks, tag alongs, and trailers. I had my bike serviced here once, and it was done in a few days. Sometimes there can be a wait when the store is busy, but that is because they are helping other customers. Also the store can be crowded because there are so many bikes! But we've never had a bad experience here.

They no longer produce those, so if you see 'em for sale there again they're stolen. Bunch of other nazi/fascist insignia on innertube caps as well. Not rich enough to throw them all away. Was so weird seeing that in a simple bike store.

Take the opportunity to grab 'em while you can. When Aspen gets busy, they get VERY busy, and Eric -- I conjecture -- don't quote me -- would need to turn away clients or ask them to go on a waiting list for the following year. Mr. Eric, Ms. Lindsey, and the rest of their brilliant crew have been working on a multi-year project for me putting in hardscape, including grading and, ultimately, changing (soft-scaping) our two acres from lawn to native plants+wildlife flower garden. Eric and crew are experts on native plants. The more I read about "lawns," the more I cringe every time I pass one on the road. Lawns, being non-native plants, they are animal-torturers -- ironically, lawns passively mow down animals. Think of lawns as efficient animal-disposal machines. Do the planet (and your neighborhood) a favor and make your land friendly to critters by insisting on native plants. Native plants and animals evolved together over millions of years, so when one's land doesn't have native plants, wildlife starves, all the way up and down the food-chain. Lawns are gasoline- and water-guzzlers. The lawn industry uses up a humongous amount of petroleum products merely in lawn-mowing. I am a "Gone the Lawn" person now. Lawns are appropriate ONLY under certain circumstances, like one is a croquet fanatic. I never knew that gardening was year-round. April is the month everyone waits for, but planning starts the previous autumn. Eric's physically-demanding season winds down in mid-November, so let him see your plot before the snows hide the land. Autumn is the best time to start brainstorming the design phase for the following April. Eric and crew are not only landscapers but artists.
