After many years of driving by this place, I finally stopped in to see what it was all about. In a beach town that's surrounded by a lot of ice cream/candy shops, you need to serve a great product & that's exactly what they do here. What they lack in store size, they surely make up for in the variety of ice cream they serve. They've been around since 1999 which speaks for itself. With over 25 delicious flavor options, their ice cream is handmade with quality ingredients. They let you sample as many flavors as you'd like which is always the fun part. Some of their regular flavors are vanilla, strawberry, chocolate, rocky road & mint chocolate chip while their "gourmet" flavors have a lot more components to them. Red velvet cake, Heath bar crunch, Cookie Monster & cherry vanilla are just the tip of the iceberg. Whatever you choose, it's going to be loaded with ingredients & be some of the best ice cream you can find in the area. They also take pride in serving fresh waffle bowls/cones & mouth watering candies. Everything is homemade so you can taste the difference when you eat their chocolate. It's rich, creamy & super flavorful. Whether you get their fudge or some chocolate covered potato chips, it'll leave your mouth watering. Be sure to take a few minutes by their display case to see all the unique candies they offer. It seems like there's always a line when I drive by but they keep it moving. The employees are always super nice & they're very efficient. Parking can be a little tough because of the way downtown is set up but don't let that dissuade you. This place was great! It has a classic vibe to it and the flavors we tried were delicious! They have lots of options, many traditional and also some more unique. If ice cream isn't your vibe, there's a cooler with cake and pie slices, as well as options like fudge and chocolate covered treats. Staff was friendly and sampling was allowed to help you decide from the many options. Just be careful to specify using their specific terms as my friend asked for a "small" instead of saying "1 scoop" and ended up with a double cone unexpectedly when the scooper brought it over. The perfect sweet treat after dinner! We loved walking around downtown Dunedin. The carrot cake ice cream is unique but good! The cow tracks is clever and delicious. They had both an inside and outside counter so service was quick. Also a lady was there with her bird you could hold! Did you ever pass a place many times then finally try it and just want to kick yourself for not having gone earlier? Well, that's exactly how I felt after finally trying Strachan's ice cream! To begin with, they had so many unique flavors some I never heard of before. Orange pineapple, carrot cake, Blue Jay (vanilla, caramel ribbons, salted peanuts and cracker jacks) to name a few. In addition to their delicious ice cream and made daily waffle cones they also sell lots of different types of soda. They also have pie and cookies and candy for sale. I ended up getting half carrot cake and half black cherry and it was honestly the best ice cream I've ever eaten. Creamy and delicious but not too sweet. The staff was super friendly and helpful! My favorite place to bring friends and visiting family to great awesome icecream! The plentiful flavor options, homemade options, is great! Personally I love the carrot cake, they didn't win awards for nothing! I finish and think about more as I drive away! Parking can be a little rough, but between the spots right infront of their location, the local strip of parking just a few spots away and the free parking garage one block away it's manageable and absolutely worth any trouble. If you see a long line don't worry, they move quickly and it will give you plenty of time to review the amazing long menu and the awesome drinks and items you can take togo. The ice cream is absolutely incredible, they have so many different flavors to pick from every single person from young to old is certainly walking out with a big smile. I love the ice cream. My husband and I have been coming to the one in Dunedin for years. We always got a good portion but this time I asked for a small and the server gave me a tiny scoop. And my husband asked for the medium and got the size of a small. We paid $13 for a spoon of ice cream. Rip off! I complained to the server and her excuse was, she weighed the ice cream. She had this unique voice that sounded like a little child. I settled for a small cup of butter pecan, and my friend had the mint. To me, this is the "other" I've cream place in Dunedin. Yesterday was my first experience here. We decided to try it instead of the usual Ice & Cream trip. I have to say the "cookie monster" and "the boss" flavors are really good! But the bad news is that the cup come here is not as good as at Ice & Cream. Ice cream is creamy and doesn't taste like fake sugar. I tried the Cookie Monster (can't ever go wrong) & the carrot cake - I don't even like carrot cake like that but the ice cream is awesome. My friend isn't a fan of cinnamon things and she even liked it. Seats are outside as the inside is a bit tiny and gets filled quite easily. Two cones with two scoops came to just over $15. We stopped in for a scoop of ice cream after lunch. There were 2 counter helpers, and only 3 parties in front of us, but it took a surprisingly long time for us to reach the register. Once there, my oreo heath and something ice cream was quickly scooped, and I was on my way. The ice cream was decent, if not memorable, so I think next time I'll try the carrot cake instead. They only have counters with no stools to eat at inside, so we went outside to eat. They have fresh fudge! It is very creamy and tasty. The flavor I bought is butterscotch. It tastes like candy corn and is a bit too sweet. I don't like the aftertaste. I'm a little worried that it has more ingredients than I would like. I will buy the maple pecan flavor next time and see if I like that one better. Milkshake is super lame Bought an $8.75 milkshake that was just their frozen custard put in a cup and then mixed for 10 seconds. I've had their ice cream. It's pretty darn good... why they would choose to use machine garbage for their milkshakes is utterly confusing. Ok, I'll try and guess the reasoning..." cause it just takes too long to make them with real ice cream, and we get real busy." Paaaa'lease. Management you've got a few options to correct this wrong. 1.) in your milkshake description just say "made with lame machine custard stuff or whatever it is, not real ice cream." 2.) make them for real, with milk and your damn good ice cream, put some whipped cream on top and charge $10... you won't sell as many, you'll make more money... and everyone who buys one will think it's great. 3.) don't sell milkshakes. What you sold me tonight was false advertising. Just pick one of the above options and the world will be a better place. Not a single one of those options is difficult. Solid 5 Stars for this delish homemade ice cream with the homemade waffle cone in the cup. Strolling through Dunedin on a warm day checking out some shops needing a little treat and this was the spot to go. I'll be honest at first we weren't going to get it because the line was quite long so after going to a few more stores and coming back to get the car it was worth the extra trip to the extra stores. Because that time period helped the line calm down and we were able to get in right away and within two minutes we had a nice gentleman serving us our goodies. After dinner in one of the local restaurants, we asked the waiters there where we could go for some good local ice cream and they collectively recommended Strachan's. There were 2 locations close by, but we went to the one downtown Dunedin so we could also stroll around. Parking is not the easiest but also wasn't impossible (and we are talking Saturday at around 6:30pm) so we parker and walked to Strachan's. They have all the flavors right outside so you can pick while you're in line or browse the menu without crowding the inside of the store. They have a system where several people are serving ice cream so the line is not super long and moves very quickly. We were all very happy with the flavors we picked. The outside has an area to sit and enjoy your treat with cut-outs to take pics which are kind of fun. overall a great local landmark to visit if in Dunedin read more
