I've never been to this kind of store in my life but I wanted to give it a chance. Overall it's a great store! They had local people advertising local services when you first enter the store. It features a great variety of fresh and organic products at reasonable prices. Staff here was friendly and courteous. Bathrooms are really clean as well! Great parking too. Alcohol is a bit limited too. Overall, definitely reccomend this place. read more

Where is the customer service. These young kids at the cash register are more interested in chit chatting amongst themselves than the customer standing right in front of them. The only interaction he had with me asking if plastic was okay. The rest of the time spoke with the bagger and then another clerk taking over for him. Paid no attention at all to what or how he was scanning. I had a mask on so it wasn't that he was scared to catch something from me. And then, can we mention the outdated items on the shelves. I never paid attention to that until recently when a co worker told me that is why she does not shop there. Convenience will be the only reason I will shop there now and again. Very disappointed. This is my home grocery store and I feel unwelcome. I am in a customer service roll as well, and that is the number one priority. Somehow got lost in this store. read more

How do they do business with no employees? Went in for some holiday shopping and nobody was at the meat counter. Since the rib roasts with the rest of the meat looked sad, I wanted one from the case. But with nobody there to get it for me, I left and went elsewhere for my groceries read more

Tonight 4/8/2021 at 9pm lane 12 closed leaving only lane 8 open. I was sixth in line when I got ready to check out. I got to watch 5 seniors before me have to bag there own groceries while 6 of your teenagers were having a party at lane 12. Laughing, talking on the phone, texting. The cashier had no ability to focus, every item he would stop and talk with a girl standing behind him. I finally had enough and asked him if it was possible for him to focus on his job. Waiting in line for over 15 minutes behind 6 shoppers none of whom had over 10 items to check out. You really need to get control of your evening shift. Any manager you have there in the evening that allowed this should be terminated. This is how you loose customers. Jewel will be getting much more of my business. read more

When on a business trip, a stop at the grocery store for Hotel snacks is a must. My home-away-from-home is the nearby Hilton Garden Inn, which has a refrigerator for my yogurt, wine, cheese, bread, and maybe a pastry. That comes in handy on those evenings (and mornings) when I crank up the computer to do work, or watch network programming in the evening and Morning Joe in the AM. The first thing you learn in Indiana is that alcohol is not for sale outside restaurants on Sunday. On other days, the beer and wine selection here is decent, but not of the same caliber as Al's along the Michigan City shore. The bakery section is sparse by my standards, but in terms of the basics, the pickings and prices are solid. read more

I usually shop here every Friday for my seafood ; if your African american do not shop here !!! I've noticed multiple employees that racially profile you as if your a thief!!! Also the lady in the seafood department early in the morning is extremely rude! I have ordered specialty cakes here as well these girls were the sweetest very accommodating . Now back to the racial profiling; I felt like store employees treated me as a potential shoplifter, for example, monitoring my movements as i shopped, and when I were at self check out one employee almost "broke her back" and stood directly in front of me while I scanned my items. While the Caucasian customer were allowed to scan and check out without the feeling of being under a microscope. The next time I'm in the area I will stop just to get the employees names ( the seafood department lady , and the cashiers who were walking around the store but immediately posted up front and watched me scan every item . Do not go here for precook dinner from their deli. This is the second time we arrived around 5:30pm and pickup rotisserie chicken, potatoe wedges because they were out of mashed and gravy. The chicken and wedges had to have been from lunchtime. It was dry, tough and barely warm. Again, this is the second time and receive the same horrible food. I work midnights as a nurse ,and I been working 13 hour shifts. I had to work Christmas eve evening and was short on time for shopping.So I order some groceries on line, and they where suppose to be dropped off between 4-5pm.I was thinking oh thank goodness Stracks will save the day. Instead I get a phone call at 4:45pm stating they are unable to deliver my groceries due to it's to busy. Now its Christmas morning, and I have no nice dinner to make my family. Do not use Stack & Val Til home delivery. Two orders were not delivered and i was charged for both. Tried calling the number and was on hold twice and both times over two hours. Went to the store in Chesterton, Indiana and they said they would do give my money back. What a rip of scam Stracks & Van Til are total rip off taking advantage of everyone in times like this. read more

Rotisserie chicken case has a sign for $5 special. Get to register they are $6.99, basically told I'm a liar. Apparently the $5 is only on Friday per one ignorant employee. Sign mentions no days on it, then I'm told sign should have been taken down. Then you give the product for the $5 advertised, that's on you for not taking it down. Nobody really knew what to think, do or say. Basically didn't give a crap. That is False advertisement and would not give the chicken for $5. I'll spend a thousand plus every month at Jewel, their loss. read more

My husband & I were in the store today and purchased the Smithfield bacon pork tenderloins along with our other normal weekly purchases. We do most all our grocery shopping at this Strack's location. Once I got home, I noticed I was charged $9.99 for each tenderloin instead of the sale price of $2.98 that was displayed right above the tenderloins when I picked them out and put them in the cart! I returned to the store and was told that they were not included in the sale because they were 1.2 oz more. The ones on sale were 18.2 oz and the packages I purchased were 20 oz. I asked if they were not included in the sale why was there a sale sign directly over the spot they were in?! The customer service girl asked her manager to approve an override on the price and was told she could not do that. She went to the store/ meat dept/ manager? I am not sure since he never told me his name and was very rude. He asked, "Is this you?" (referring to my receipts) and then said they aren't part of the sale. He never answered my question, when I asked why they were by the sign. I explained where they were and he said, I know where they were. Not one "manager" ever apologized all I heard was they aren't part of the sale. If they aren't part of the sale DO NOT PUT A SIGN SAYING THEY ARE RIGHT OVER THEM!! I have purchased these pork loins many times prior to this. They are my husband's favorites. Had I been offered something off the $9.99 I probably would have accepted, but I was never offered anything other than they aren't part of the sale..OH and heaven forbid no apology. We have been customers of Strack's for over 30 years and this location since they opened and I have never been treated so rudely!!! I am sure one of the many other competing grocery stores in the area will be happy to take my business!....Meijer, Jewel, Walmart. Apparently Strack's doesn't need their regular customers anymore. Good luck with that! They may end up back in bankruptcy.... read more

She created beautiful floral arrangements, for the church, the reception, bouquets, ect... for our Daughter Lauren & Tim's wedding this past weekend. She came to the rescue with only 1 month notice ( due to other florist having to cancel due to a medical emergency). The flowers were fresh and Beautifully arranged. We highly recommend Heidi, she listened to our vision & captured it with flowers. She made great suggestions and was on time every step of the way. A Blessing to work with! I love the Strack's in Chesterton...especially since its been remodeled! Everything is so clean and organized. The produce and meats are fresh and well displayed. Its quiet and I've never had to wait in line to check out which is a huge deal for me! The only reason I didn't give it that last star is due to the size of the store. It seems a little small in comparison to the Highland store but that's not really a big deal in my book! Love this Strack's and will continue to do my grocery shopping there!! read more

I went today and was very angry to see that self checkouts have been replaced by 3 "express" lanes. These lanes are no good, as at the nearby Jewel-Osco they are no good there at all. The store is still fine though. read more

Strack and Van Til has great produce and produce choice. I love the new lay out and especially the new sushi bar. All though I'm not too happy with the goods I received from the bakery recently. Not only are the cupcakes, that I ordered a week in advance from the planed party date, a totally different color than i asked and showed for. But they did an entirely different design. When picked them up I was obviously not happy but couldn't do much since the party was the next day. Could be a bit more attentive to the detail of the costumers product guys.. read more
