Everytime I go here I bring home something spoiled. You can't tell from the package or the date or even by the rind or peel. I bring home chicken and it smells like straight doo doo I'm not even joking. Spoiled meat, mushy vegetables, and today was the final straw. I opened a box of crystal lite drink mix packets and inside the box they were all open and powder was everywhere. Bottom line is if you shop here be prepared to throw out at least a couple things when you get home. I'm going to Meijer from now on. It's out of the way but damn this is unacceptable. read more

I ordered a 1/2 sheet birthday cake for my father. The cake was beautiful! That's the only good part. It was a $60 banana cake that was so dry it wouldn't go down your throat without getting stuck. I paid extra for cream cheese frosting, it was buttercream. I also paid extra for a filling, that tasted sour. The final kick was that nobody bothered to tell me that on top of the frosting, there was fondant. YUK! $60 for a photo prop because 90% of the cake went into the garbage! read more

I've had this issue over three times now--hand-trimmed chicken breasts spoiling days before the Sell By date. I'm leaving two stars because, otherwise, the store is great. But since this has become a recurring problem, and I've wasted over $40 on mislabeled chicken, I felt the need to say something. Their frozen seafood by the seafood dept. mainly the shrimp is always freezer burnt. Thursday October 29th we were in buying groceries and decided to get fried chicken. We have bought their chicken many times, even for family parties. This chicken was terrible, even worse than Kentucky fried. It was dried out and greasy . I will think hard about going there again. read more

First I been here numerous of times spending my money this one caucasian older lady with long hair has carded me for alcohol on more then 3 occasions or more and knows exactly who I am and after making a comment about me looking young instead off doing her job check the age and ring up my stuff although a compliment still rude to the fact I'm a grown a** woman had the nerve to tell me I had to remove my hat so she can get a good look at me like she an investigator or the police and because I didn't she refused to ring up my alcoholic beverage I don't know how many cases y'all get with kids not being who they say etc but I'm not the one I have never been treated this way in my life and don't need to lie about my identity or age she should be fired but either way as long as she is an employee I will never spend my money in that place again. not everyone is as ignorant as she most are really decent people. read more

I felt compelled to write this because some people obviously don't know which Stracks is the one on Old Ridge, and which is the one on Ridge (37th or Route 6). The one on Old Ridge is wonderful. The people on staff are very friendly, and generally pretty knowledgable about the store. Lots of staff is off due to the Covid situation, but the folks who remain will answer questions, show you which aisle stuff is in, and generally make your morning pleasant. I know many of their names since I've been coming here for a decade. The produce is fresh and plentiful enough. I know I'm not gonna get watercress here, but if I need a specialty item, I'll go to the Stracks in Valpo or the health food store out there. THERE IS NO SELF CHECKOUT, but there are usually enough cashiers, and the lady in the 15 or less lane will let you go there is no-one else is there or waiting. If the item is on sale, and it doesn't show up on the register, I just ask the cashier, and usually they will check or just give you the credit. I used to have trouble with the phone application, but the bugs have been worked out now, in my head and in their app, so it's much smoother. I don't buy meat here since Covid made stuff scarcer, but their gluten-free section is tremendous and if you can't find something, just ask the nearest staff member. They are around and will tell or show you, and I look for some pretty obscure stuff sometimes - pepitas, champagne vinegar, the weird stuff. No, they don't have as much as a football field store, but I've got bad knees and don't have to spend an hour walking around aimlessly here either. The only downside for me is the deli, because those ladies are not nice, but everyone else in the store is a peach, from produce, to meat products, to gluten-free, to checkout people, to baggers. This is a friendly, neighborhood store, and I'll keep shopping here as long as I'm able. read more

Stopped off to get groceries for the week. This is a good clean store, has friendly clerks always willing to help, with just about the best prices around. I stopped at the store bakery and bought 4 donuts. Man, I tell you, they smelled so good I couldn't wait to get home and ate them while I did my general grocery shopping. They were all delicious, each being better than the previous and the first being better than the last. It was just about the greatest, most enjoyable time I've ever spent shopping. Yes, I did hang on to the bag to make sure I paid for those donuts before I left. Specifically, could you: -stock more than one flavor of honey, instead of multiple brands of clover honey; -teach your bakery how to produce bread that has a real crust and more texture than squishy slices of 99-cent Wonder(if-it's-really)bread; -tell your baggers they don't need to use one plastic bag for one, two or three items, so I don't come home with six plastic bags containing only $40 worth of groceries (I know, I should at least carry a cloth bag. Close to home but quality has really gone down hill and prices are ridicules..$18.99 lb yellow lake perch. $11.99 lb at meijer filets twice as big at meijer and nice color...stracks was old fish...pomegranates 2 for 6 at stracks and old and dried out. 3 for 5 at meijer and fresh or $1.28 a piece at wallmart and fresh..mussels in garlic butter frozen $2.99 at meijer. $7.99 at stracks and nasty... nasty produce. They get a star for just for being there, I guess :) Let me jut say that the day when Wiseway conceded being Wiseway to becoming yet another mediocre Stracks, was a sad day. The selection Stracks offers would best satisfy the cravings of a 14 year old irresponsible junk food eater who's got the munchies. There is very little for a discerning grown up shopper to pick from. Taking into account that the organics section is getting smaller as we speak, and the produce section features an array of rotten onions - at least the last time I had the misfortune of stopping in - we are left with aisles of frozen and canned foods. But the most offensive practice is this: consistent ringing up of higher price than what is marked on the shelf. This has happened every single time I've shopped at three different Stracks locations. Each time, a manager casually strolls over and tells them to change the price to whatever is listed on the shelf. They don't argue, they don't act surprised, they just promptly change the price. When this happened again last week, I inquired why these mistakes kept happening. To my inquiry I simply got a disinterested shrug and blank stare from the manager. Mistake? Time and time again? Let me just say this: if I ran a business where my POS consistently rung up the wrong price, I would fix it. I wonder how many customers paid a higher price for something listed as being on sale, without catching it. Watch what you're being charged if you happen to shop there, and better yet, AVOID shopping there altogether and head to Meijer that just opened in Portage. Ordered a birthday cake from there last week, girl named Jennifer took my order. Told her it was an adult lady birthday, no big deal; right? Went to pick it up on a saturday and all they did was write happy birthday (name) that was it!!! No flowers no nothing. I explained to the Bakery Manager that it was for a birthday and this was not acceptable so they made some large pastel flowers and dressed it up. Got it to work and needless to say i will not be placing an order there again. The printing on the cake was so ugly my 2 old niece could write better. I miss Wiseway!!!! The new management is very rude. They are over priced, and the selection of goods is terrible. As mentioned the pricing is off! I've been over charged more than once. One more thing is what is with all the self check out? When it was Wiseway the counters were always manned with people that had been working there for ages. Now you may have 2 teens, and 3 "managers" wandering the store. Get up front and ring people up for goodness sake! Stracks on Old Ridge Road in Hobart. The bakery was an epic failure I mean a complete epic failure. I had bought a various of fresh doughnuts from their bakery and fresh was not what i tasted nor were the doughnuts doughnuts. They are plain blah no taste and just to know they serve my side of Hobart is very sad and proves that the Stracks on 37th also known as rte 6 and the Stracks in Portage formerly town and Country is and will only be the Stracks I will go to . I'm updating my review since it's been awhile and I've been shopping at this location pretty consistently for the last 9 months (with an infant at home, it's hard to pass up the convenience of a grocery store so close to home). They have reorganized portions of the store, which has made it more difficult to find certain items (bread crumbs, for example are neither near the bread nor near the stuffing & shake & bake. They're now in the baking aisle). Their selection of fresh meat has improved a bit, in that it's usually not frozen when I buy it. This has been helpful to my last-minute cooking, so a star for that. Produce selection has improved a bit (they sometimes have things like shallots now. Wohoo!), but not enough of an improvement for them to earn another star. Their bakery and deli are consistent and good, with service usually being pretty quick. A star for that. The checkout situation is the same as before: never enough cashiers (usually just 2 plus a couple of self checkouts during peak hours), and it takes an inordinate amount of time to check out regardless of how busy they are. They have improved a bit. But given the opportunity, I'd much rather shop at their larger (now remodeled) Hobart location or Meijer in Portage. Keep trying, Hobart Stracks. Ok, I have been shopping here for YEARS, and I have been witnessing a rapid decline. The produce department is disgusting. I have had to return produce 1 to 2 days after purchase or just throw away because of inconvenience or had to hunt someone down to ask for fresh produce because what is out is on the verge of rotten. Not acceptable. Tonight is Good Friday and folks are out shopping for Easter Sunday. Well, they had no express lanes open and only 2 cashier operated lanes open with at least 10 people in each waiting with their carts full. As I was looking for a manager, he comes walking out of his office , I asked what is going on? His response: we had some call offs, sorry. What took him so long to get out of the office? Wake up Hobart these two stores are probably closing. Heck, they are probably closing all of their stores. I'm sure they are not good to the employees either. Going to Meijer from now on!! read more
