We dealt with the only mushroom Philly covered in onions because who knows how long it would take to get another made even though there are only 4 other people in the restaurant and they already have their order Philly is ok. The name is what caught our attention. We were driving back to our hotel from Walmart and turned around to get hoagies. This place seems pretty popular with locals. The cashier was swamped taking call-in orders, she seemed a bit overwhelmed but she was still welcoming and nice (we shared some laughs together). Hang in there girlfriend! The Turkey hoagie and Italian stallion were just okay, ya know edible. For us, the bread makes the hoagie (it's the key to a great hoagie) and we were underwhelmed. The crabby fries were HORRIBLE because they were not edible because they were extremely undercooked. Kinda weird since they seemed to be the basic frozen crinkle fries, nearly impossible to mess up. Perhaps, tonight was on off night because this place has good reviews. But it's worth a try to support this business especially during these tough Covid times. Had lunch here about a week ago on a Saturday afternoon. It was nice to see the place busy. We were welcomed by the owner who patiently went through the menu with us. We ordered 2 regular philly's and one with the hot peppers. The sandwiches are big and tasted great. Since I'm not from Philadelphia, I won't debate what a true philly cheese steak is or isn't, I'll leave that to the "experts". What I do know, the sandwiches here taste good and I like food that tastes good. We have recommended this restaurant to friends and will definitely be back. Went to the "Down the Shore" tonight as I really wanted to check it out. Ordered the "Spicy Bite" because the thought of some Red Cherry peppers mixed in sounded perfect - it was. The roll was hollowed out to fit all the meat, onions, peppers and (of course) the Wiz and the sandwich had the right "drip factor" to boot... My wife ordered the Mushroom Lover's. We devoured every bite of both sandwiches and that took some doing because they were packed. May have a difficult time ordering some of the other selections because I haven't had such a good Cheesesteak since my last visit to Pat's King of Steaks... The staff was great too. read more

Don't expect much! You couldn't find a "hoagie" this bad even in the worst Philly establishment. No lettuce?!?! It's a very BASIC yet key part of the hoagie and it's missing. They should think about renaming the place...it disgraces REAL Philly food. read more

Really great place that makes really delicious Philip cheesesteaks. I ordered the 12inch mushroom lover cheesesteak and it was really good. Loaded with thinly sliced meat sautéed onions and hot melted mozzarella cheese over white sub roll.The sandwich was so big I had to take bites from the side. The inside is very neatly designed with cool art decor, black and white pictures of Philadelphia and military friendly flags. The ladies at the counter were very helpful and I was in and out in less then 10 mins. read more

First time coming here...heard about this place from a few sources and thought I'd give it a try. I came in for a to go order....there was so much I wanted to try so I went ahead and ordered the 10 mild buffalo wings, bacon cheeseburger, fries, and a 8" Philly cheesesteak with onions and a few mushrooms. I'll start with the mild buffalo wings, they had good flavor, didn't have much or any sauce on them. Would've liked to see them a little wetter...they had other flavors on the menu that I would be interested to try. Wanted to first start with mild buffalo since it was my first time. I would order the wings again from here. The bacon cheese burger was pretty decent. Nice size burger...not too small and not too big. I had lettuce, onions and mayo...decent bun..not sure if it was an authentic fresh bun from the bakery vs the off the shelf prepackaged buns. I would get the burger again..they don't have many burger options so I wouldn't go out of my way to come here for the burger only. Last but not least, the Cheesesteak...ordered with onions, and mushrooms w/provolone cheese....I feel to some extent what one of my elite friends said about the cheesesteak... it was ok...flavor was ok..it seemed dry and the sub bread pretty stiff...it didn't have enough cheese. The cheese was placed at the bottom of the roll, with the steak on top...honestly I would've liked to see the cheese on the bottom and top..extra cheesy and a lil more greasy..perhaps a good idea would be to cook this in avacodo oil...I heard this was the best cheesesteak in the area and I would disagree...there are other better ones out there in the immediate area...2 on the beachside I can think of right away. Overall I would come back, if I'm close by. What I had didn't necessarily stand out to where I would go out of my way to come back..but perhaps I will give them another shot. read more

10/07/19 Update: Owner Mike messaged me, asking for details so the problem could be corrected, and offered a complementary replacement of our order. Class move! We'll be back again. We usually love the pizza here. But on a delivery order on 9/21/19, one pizza was missing sauce (!?!?), and toppings. Both were only tepid temp and seemed like day-old. The person answering the phone was either very distracted, or just clueless. It took three calls before we finally received our order, 90 minutes after the first call. WTF?? Well, after years of frequenting another cheesesteak place on the beach, I have found my new favorite for the Philadelphia comfort food staple. Perfect mixture of gooey cheese, high quality chopped up steak, and savory grilled onions, with none of the faint rancid taste that too many restaurants of this type get because of the pre cooked onions sitting too long in the oil-this place cooks everything, including the onions, when ordered. The result is a great tasting, savory mound of taste bud delight, served on fresh baked rolls (flash frozen dough brought in from Philly, rolls proofed and baked here in the kitchen. Super tasty! Young lady behind the counter, was too rude for me to enjoy the food, her rudeness altered the taste of the Philly Cheese sandwich that came up 10 minutes before the pepperoni pizza I ordered that she said they didn't have crushed red peppers to go. I lived in philly for 3 years in the 90s, so I know a good cheese steak hoagy. I used to go to pats steaks and ginos every other weekend after enjoying the bar scene elsewhere in that historic city. I give straight out of Philly a 4+ star rating but not quite 5 star. Eight out of ten times the food is great here however occasionally the bread is a bit stale by the end of the day. They need to keep the bread vacuum sealed and refrigerated during the day so that it's not stale by the end of the day. Their provolone jalapeño steak sandwich is hearty and satisfying. Well, they recently opened a spot about a mile from my home, so I gave them another try. Food was very good. And oregano was nowhere near my sandwich, which is a plus. Only a couple of gripes that I do have in the pricing. I ordered a 8" mushroom lovers steak which was listed at $8.75 and an order of fries. Ended up paying $17 (including the tip and a debit card charge I wasn't notified of). That'll definitely limit my visits. Just a little too steep for a small sandwich and crinkle fries, IMO. I had reasonable expectations due to the name. It wasn't very good, and it was very expensive. I was the only person in there at 1115 on a weekday, so I should know better. I got the Philly, large, and a pepsi. It was 18 dollars. I expected it to be very good for 18 bucks. It was not. It simply wasn't very good. The bread was overly moist, there wasn't much meat, and it didn't have any discernable seasoning. 20$ for a lunch needs to be pretty good, or at least enjoyable. It was not. Would not go back at any price, simly wasn't good. Girl at counter actually had me WAIt while she played on her phone. I found this funny.....wasn't upsetting; but makes me understand why I walked in to an empty restaurant at lunchtime, bought my food, and sat and ate alone with only one other person coming in to get a to go order. Everywhere else for miles is swamped. Make your sandwich better, make prices a bot more reasonable. It would be better to sell 200 sandwiches a day making 4 dollars profit a day on the sandwiches; as opposed to selling 5 sandwiches a day and making 12 dollars in each one...simple math. Just my ten cents. ADD: Owner responded. Appears my review is interpreted as harsh and personal. Not my intent. I ate there, and found it not very good, and expensive. I eat lunch out in the area every single day at the same time, and have to wait every single other place. But, again, wasn't necessarily BAD. Just too expensive for what I got, in my opinion. You have most things down pat. It is clean and efficient. Put less oil/butter on the bread, and season the meat a bit more, and it would work for ME; but, if it works for the majority of folks, then you are correct, and it is only wrong for ME. First impression is an old run down building, kinda not clean, but we went in anyways. Ordered two phillys with mushroom lettuce and tomatoes and a vodoo fries. Phillys were pretty good, seemed fresh and had good taste to it. Vodoo fries were freshly made. This place would have bigger potential at a better location and a cleaner, newer building. Ceiling, windows, doors, light fixtures especially outside were all falling apart. Gives you the impression that there are lots of insects everywhere so you cant help but to wonder about the kitchen. I have been to this place 3 times now. All three times I got philly cheesesteaks along with something new to try. Each time I dealt with different staff. The food and staff have both been excellent with every visit. This last time we finally tried the cheesecake (strawberry shortcake cheesecake) and an item whose name I forget but it Is basically a deep fried calzone. We literally fought over who got the leftovers. And I already called to see when they get more cheesecake shipped in, because that thing, with it's layers of cake and cream and strawberries, and it's thick strawberry cheesecake center, was dessert nirvana. Even better, other foodies I have talked to have asked me if I have tried them yet and suggested them to me.
