I found myself searching for a new stylist after leaving my last stylist with brassy hair every time. I finally had enough and searched high and low for a few weeks before almost giving up. By luck I found strand and with a little more looking into found that Kate was the stylist for me! I called and was lucky enough to get an appointment fairly quickly. I was super excited and nervous but after meeting her all those feelings went away. She took her time to listen to what I needed and gave me her opinion on what was best for me and my hair. This is the first time I left a salon 100% satisfied and happy with my results. I was shocked to say the least that she was able to remove all that brassy blonde from my hair. The salon itself is clean and up-to-date. They even carry the Halo extensions that I'm sooo excited for and hoping to get my hands on if they can find my color. Avian did a phenomenal job! I'm a natural brunette, and had a partial highlight that looked brassy and unnatural growing out, with some breakage exaggerated it. He applied a root smudge and a gloss which made the light parts super natural and blended, like my hair was sun kissed instead of streaky. Another gentlemen tidied up my bangs. I was expecting to pay twice the price for essentially a color correct, but Avian fixed the issue without having to do a complete overhaul, and saved my highlights. This was my first visit at Strand Salon. I have heard about it over the years due to living in town but never had the opportunity to check it out. All I have to say is WOW. This place is AMAZING!!!! From being greeted with a mimosa to start off my Saturday morning, to the absolutely stunning ambiance the decor and atmosphere gives off, all the way to the incredibly passionate and educated staff I can't believe that this hidden gem was right here in my home town!! Albi did the honor of cutting my extremely long hair into a medium length masterpiece while Kate helped correct my hair with a stunning lightening foil! Kate not only spent the time to educate me on what process she was doing to my hair but to inform me about the products that would maintain and give me the volume and look that I wanted to attain. To feel even more welcomed, one of the owners, Paul came over to greet me and welcome me making me feel included and important. The best part about the whole process may have been the Wash Room where you zen out and get shampooed with an out of body worthy head massage. In addition to all of this Kate even spent the time to curl my hair and teach me the correct technique to do the iconic loose beach wave look. I was in Boston with my son and his father and decided to make the trip down to Strand Salon while I was on the east coast. I had a 10AM appt with Jen the Master Colorist and then a cut and blow dry at 12:15PM by her husband Paul. Unfortunately Jen was under the weather but she was in contact with me letting me know that she was trying to make it and if not that she'd put me with one of her best colorists besides her. She wasn't able to make it and had me see Lindsay Ritchie. I was a little nervous because on the Website or said colorist in training but after talking to her and telling her what I wanted I was at ease about it. She darkened my base and then put balayage throughout my hair and then glosses the rest of it. When she was done I could tell my hair had lifted nicely but couldn't see the full result until Paul had it blowdried. Paul then went to work and started shaping and cutting my hair which was extremely long. It seemed like so much of it was cut off but by the time he was done the length was still long and beautiful and I had flowing layers, like serious layers everywhere. It felt soft and light and I love it. My boyfriend is mourning the loss of my long locks but fuck him. I love my hair :) it's amazing. I'd seriously fly back there from Vegas to have it maintained. Also another thing that was awesome is they don't charge to blow dry if you're getting a cut. I'm so used to the salons in Vegas charging for it so that was a nice surprise. Thanks Lindsay and Paul! This was my first time at Strand Salon and I loved every second. The receptionist was very nice and I loved the atmosphere, especially the wash room. Dark, gothic, romantic, and luxurious. What was really awesome though was my stylist Rachel. I came in unsure of what I wanted with my extremely long hair, but I knew I wanted a change. I'm a new mommy as of 6 weeks ago, and this new mommy needed something new and fresh. After our consultation, Rachel worked her magic, and I love my new hair!! This is a PSA for People who work hard for their money and have little kids!!! I had an appointment at Strand, but had to cancel last minute because my son was ill. I called the salon and apologized immediately. The girl on the phone (Kylie) was very rude and told me a manager would call me back... While leaving the pediatrician with my son I saw i had a missed call and a new voicemail from the salon. While listening to the voicemail the manager (Kelsey) had left me, I learned that they had charged my card a whopping $130 no show fee!!!!! I repeat: 130 US Dollars for missing a Hair appointment!!!!! Life happens, my child is more important than a haircut. I'm not upset about getting a no show fee on my card it's the way they handled it and the amount they charged me for that I find soooo so so so disrespectful! I have gotten no show fees from my Dentist and it never exceeded $50. ( A DENTIST!) This whole experience is Ludacris and to be quiet frank, I agree with other reviews on this platform. Everyone at Strand Salon is rude and snooty. Stay away from this Place My dear People, this is a Headache you dont need! (Also++++ The Salon Manager keeps flagging my reviews on google and Yelp). Finally found colorist and stylist equal to those in Manhattan. The shampoo room is heaven in its own but the artists definitely have skill. It's a tight ship. They do push products a bit much for my liking but that's just their business model so I can't blame them. Only issue was trying to initially book took me ages for someone to call me back. The boys were kinda heavy handed (Avian and Albie) Avian was really nice and asked questions and Albie was a bit catty. I recommend having Avain dye your hair if you're looking for it to look naturalish. The girls I had were very nice too. However I did not get what I asked for , my hair looked almost the same as before dying it , however I DMed the owner on Instagram @jenstylesu and she offered to have my hair changed for no charge and was very nice. I've been going to Strand since they opened almost 7 years ago, and am long overdue to leave a review. I get my color done with Jen and my cuts/blowouts with Paul or Albie. If you're looking for talent, star treatment, and a great atmosphere, Strand is your place. If you're looking for colorists/stylists who continue training to keep up with the latest trends, again, Strand is your place. I've read other reviews and want to address some concerns others have expressed. First, if you do not show up, you are charged. Strand employees are specialized- meaning, if you go to a colorist, he/she only does color. You will have to see a cutting/ styling specialist for those services. Now, say, for example, you have an appointment for color services, followed by a haircut and blowout, and you cancel last minute or blow off the appointment altogether. Now you have at least 2 people who were depending on the money their service would have provided them. This is how they make a living. In addition, your no-show means their assistants and front desk staff may not get paid, depending on how payroll is structured. Emergencies do happen- I've had ONE in the seven years I've been a client, and it was a true emergency. Their front desk manager was more than willing to work with me, because I communicated with her as soon as the problem arose. Another complaint I've seen is due to price for services. With regard to this, I say, "You get what you pay for." If you own a business, you charge a fee for your services. If you work for an employer, you receive a certain amount an hour or a year. You deserve to make the money you ask for when you provide a service. Strand owners establish their fees based on their ongoing training, their experience, and their talent, among other things. You, as a potential client, may want to treat yourself to the atmosphere, shampoo room, and other luxuries they provide (and I think you should!!!). They charge a fee for this. This is how they make a living. Personally, I don't want to be with a company who is willing to haggle over price and doesn't know their worth. I pay what they charge, and I receive great service- every time. I've only had one visit, early on, where there was a problem with a treatment. Their response- they fixed it. Period. I went away happy. You owe it to yourself to give Strand a try. From the boutique, to the shampoo room with head massage, to the products, the coffee/biscotti, and, last, but certainly not least, the color, cut, and style, Strand is a salon beyond comparison. read more

I didn't know what to expect from this higher end salon with such gorgeous people who were passionate about fashion, style, and good looks. After all, I had avoided a salon trip for a year due to several "hair-bully" experiences in a row. I expected to be judged for avoiding my hair care, looked at like I wasn't worth stepping through their door. To my surprise none of my fears were brought to life. I was treated with warmth, respect, and nurtured back to a state of feeling like a person. Sandy was my stylist. She sat me down, shook my hand, and got to know me and my hair situation promptly. She was friendly, but not to the point where I felt like I had to speak. The main focus of her work was my hair, and I really liked that about sitting in her chair. After getting the initial greetings and hair profiling out of the way she sent me off to the washing station and I had the most amazing, relaxing, shampoo and condition of my life. I briefly zoned out, and was gently brought to once the wash was done. Sandy immediately went to work on my hair. She was like this lean, mean, hair-cutting machine. Every thing she did was precise and passionate. While cutting my hair she put up with all of my hair concern questions, set aside products for my take home, and carefully taught me how to upkeep my style. She took extra care to style my hair for me before being done, which was a huge plus since I had a company party to attend. Before I left, I also had the pleasure of meeting Lindsay. She was also passionate, bright-eyed, and excited to take on a coloring job with my hair. Again, she quickly profiled my hair with confidence. I intend to set up an appointment with her for a Balayage the next time I set an upkeep appointment with Sandy. I can't wait to go back again. I've debated for a couple weeks about posting a review, because it's really not my style. But, I decided to write this as a warning so that no one else leaves the salon feeling like I did! If you have long hair... BEWARE! I went in for a trim and was very specific that I wanted to keep as much length as possible. I had been growing my hair out for several years and it was almost to my waist! I was very particular about keeping my hair LONG. When it was all said and done, Sandra cut off at least 12+ inches!!!! That is NOT a trim!!! The salon was nice and the shampoo station was really enjoyable, especially the scalp massage. The cut is well done, but it is not AT ALL what I had wanted or asked for. read more

Strand is an absolutely beautiful, super bougie salon. The work is good for the most part, but there are some things to be aware of. Pricing is "a la carte" which can really increase your bill. It is also extremely very time consuming as you are seeing different people for every service. The classic "strand cut" is not for everyone - Face frame that gets cut WAY too far back so you end up looking like you have significantly shorter hair in the front versus the back. My new stylist explained that this is a result of "over directing" the hair. I have seen two different stylists for a cut and they both had this tendency which makes me think it is how they are trained to cut. If you are looking for subtle face framing, be VERY clear on what you're looking for or you'll end up with short choppy layers that take forever to grow out. What I find interesting is none of the strand stylist have this style, makes me wonder why they push it on their clients so much. read more

I got a beautiful full balayage done by Lauren, pricing was very reasonable, especially for my hair length! (see photos) The salon experience was very high end and relaxing, during my shampoo I got a fabulous head massage. The parking was super easy and there are ATM's around for cash tip. One thing to note is that Strand's services are "a la carte" so expect to pay separately for a blow dry. I opted out of the blow dry since my hair air dries straight and its not always worth it for me. But they still combed me out, added product and rough dried me. I will definitely be back! read more

I received a gift certificate from my daughter for the Strand. I called to make an appointment for a highlight and was informed that they require you to have a Malibu treatment prior to any coloring done. I have had Malibu treatments in the past and it had compromised the texture of my hair negatively. I explained that I did not and would not authorize them to do this treatment and was then informed that they would not give me an appointment. This is absolutely absurd as I should not be told that I HAVE to have this treatment, it is my hair and I will make that decision based on my prior experience. I am sad to say that this was not a good experience and I will never know if they are worth all the hype but I am sorely disappointed that I was not allowed that option. I have been traveling from NYC to Strand for four years for regular hair appointments since I moved from Connecticut, and wouldn't have it any other way. So, when I got engaged and was planning my large,10-bridesmaid wedding in NYC, there was only one choice for all of our hair and makeup needs: Strand. Luckily, Strand's owners Jen and Paul were willing to travel with several members of their team to my wedding venue and they flawlessly handled all things hair and beauty. As the bride, I had already expected that Strand would be fabulous based on my past experiences, but I was nevertheless blown away yet again by their professionalism, skill, and efficiency. I went in for a simple trim of an inch straight across the back; it did not come out even. The right side ended up an inch shorter than the left side. The stylist kept flipping my hair to the front and back while trimming; no wonder it didn't come out even. By the time she finished, it was more like 2 inches removed because she had to keep going back and forth. I only wear my hair down in the back, not the front. Fortunately I was able to even it out myself at home, but had to trim more to do so. I will not be going back. read more

Lauren is a great colorist. She asks a lot of questions and is honest. Sandy cut my hair several times and I've returned twice to have her fix it (paid full price). Her work looks great on Instagram, but just doesn't transfer in real life. She doesn't ask questions, is forgetful or simply puts her own spin on it. FYI - bring cash as you cannot tip on your credit card. ***After leaving this review, Jen, the co-owner, messaged me here. I didn't respond because I felt awkward. I returned for color many months later only because I really like Lauren (she's no longer there). Jen was waiting for me at the desk and said "I need to speak with you". We've never talked, so I was confused. She sat me in the middle of the waiting area for everyone to hear, and brought up my review. Her approach was uncomfortable and I told her that I wanted to leave. Perhaps she had good intentions, but her execution was unprofessional. Also, ask for itemized pricing as they seem to constantly jump and be inconsistent for the same services. Beware...Terrible Salon experience. The two Girls at the front Desk greated me with dirty Looks instead of Hello. The Staff and Owners (Jen and Paul) Gossip about each other and their Clients. I witnessed Paul give an Older women a Haircut that she voiced she didnt like, Paul got very pissed off and told her to get out of his chair and make another appointment. Then started calling her an idiot as she was leaving. Jen yelled at one of the Stylists for being late and the Girl was visibly shaken and teary eyed. I felt very uncomfortable at this Salon. I've been coming here for a year or so. The place is nicely decorated and has a lot to accommodate you. The only complaint that I have is there are you can I tip on your debit card, after a few visits they are not that friendly to you anymore, and I had A problem canceling my appointment. I work in the healthcare field and work 12 hour days. I work overnights so my appointment was in the morning and I was getting out of work late so I called and needed to reschedule my appointment. I was told that I could reschedule but still get charged. I don't think it's fair for them to charge if you're a valid customer. I am a nurse and my hours aren't guaranteed to get out on time so for that to happen doesn't make me want to come here anymore. It has happened twice to me once I had a family emergency and the second time was getting out of work late. Experience at first it is great but that greatness slowly declines. I haven't gone here in a few months and I actually found a better place that actually understands why I need to reschedule if needed. read more
