I'm so glad I decided to take a chance on a new salon and colorist Liz Beveridge. I am nuerotic when it comes to my hair, it took me years to grow out to the length I have and even longer to remove the years of box died black and mermaid red hair stages I went though during college years. After all of that I wanted to be blonde (of course I did) and did so slowly and steadily over the course of five years working towards a cool toned blonde while trying to preserve the integrity of my hair. I had the blonde ombre style, a balayage with a heavy money piece, baby-lights, full head of highlights, etc. Recently I wanted to get to a nice icy, pearl level 10 or 11 (inside of a banana peel color) blonde that I've been seeing all over Pinterest and Instagram but really wanted to find a salon that used Olaplex after watching countless youtube videos and reviews about how it repairs the hair during the bleach process. I found Strand Salon on the Olaplex website locator and being that they were right down the street from me I called to ask a couple questions and get a recomendation on who to book given my hair history. I'm sorry this review is going to be obnoxiously long but I have to say this. First, the woman who ended up being my colorist answered the phone and she was so kind and patient answering my questions. Second, she explained to me that the salon has designated colorists that strictly do color and stylists that do haircuts only. I had never heard of this before but thought how genius the concept was. Getting a good hair color is a science all its own...getting and maintaining a good blonde especially for someone who doesn't have virgin hair and isn't a natural blonde...that requires part chemistry, part magical wizardry and part miracles. You can always tell when your hairdresser loves working with color, their constantly experimenting and educating themselves on the latest trends versus those that just view it as another aspect of their job. So why wouldn't we all want to go see someone totally devoted to color who has consistent experience executing client after client of great hair color? Third positive...they offered a free fifteen minute consultation for you to see if they are the right fit. Maybe all salons offer that but it was the first I heard of such a thing. When I asked for recommendations she pleasantly gave me a list of names and each individual Instagram handle of the colorists so I could look through to get an idea of their work. My fourth positive note is that even though she could have taken the opportunity to self promote herself as she was one of the stylists, she let her work speak for itself and didn't make any effort to sway me into making an appointment with her, giving the colorists a fair opportunity at a new client. I thought that was so respectable. I had no idea I was speaking to a colorist until afterwards, I just assumed I was talking with the receptionist. It was sheer coincidence I ended up choosing her after all. Ok I need to wrap this up its a full blown essay. Lets use bullet points *Salon was impeccably designed & decorated, on par with any upscale salon you'd find in NYC or LA. What put it over the edge for me was that as swanky as it was, the atmosphere and step by step process was nothing less than a spa-like experience, relaxing and with close attention given to every detail. *They had these awesome stations for each step of your process, one of which included a whole bar of goodies and treats and fancy infused waters, coffee, tea, etc. *THE SHAMPOO BOWL experience WAS AMAZING, I was wondering when someone would invent a comfortable way to be in that position, I was there for maybe fifteen minutes total while the Olapex Step 2 and gloss did its magic, they had a back warmer on my chair and I was more than comfortable with my head in the sink. Rachael was one of the stylists who washed my hair and she gave the best, most thorough head massage, heavenly. I felt like Queen for the day. Bullet points aren't working. Im still rambling. Liz was amazing, she managed my expectations by being honest with how light she could get me in one sitting as compared to the photo I brought in. She was easy to talk to making the whole experience so enjoyable for a stay at home mom of a 15 month old who rarely gets out and barely ever gets out alone. She was on top of her timing, checking up on me and the color throughout. I love the finished result, I had a lot going on with my color from previous work done on it and she managed to pull through almost all of that chaos and got me where I wanted with just a little bit of touch up lightening to do for the next appointment. To wrap up she did an amazing blowout that had both myself and my husband smiling from ear to ear when I walked out. I took my daughter to Strand yesterday and could not believe how rude Sandy was to her and how bad my daughter's hair looked after Sandy cut it. The cut was so bad, we had to go another salon to get it fixed. After my daughter was in the Lather Lounge for a wash, Sandy told my daughter she could smell the well water in her hair and told my daughter she should come back next week for the Malibu treatment. First, I have to wonder how the well water was still in her hair after her shampoo. Second, I have to say that I am not sure what well water smells like, but I am thinking fresh water has to smell better than chemically treated city water. And most importantly, how rude to tell a client that you think her hair smells bad and that she needs a special treatment to wash the smell out of her hair. The cut Sandy gave my daughter was so bad that we had to go to another Salon to get it fixed. The hair dresser was shocked and tried to fix what she could. She pulled my daughter's hair forward and on one side the length was about one full inch longer than the other side. She immediately cut this to try to even out the sides. The angles around her face were so messed up, she could only make it a little better. Sandy did not listen to how my daughter wanted her hair. I don't think anyone could ask for a cut as bad as what Sandy did. There was this big chunky block on side that looked like she was trying to grow out bangs, but she never had bangs. Before Sandy cut that chunk out of her hair, she had very long and relatively even length hair. Sandy seemed to randomly cut chunks out of her hair and left an uneven mess of layers and angles, when my daughter asked for a straight cut to clean up the ends and not take too much off. If you like your hair, don't go to Strand. read more

I have had my hair done at Strand a few times now.. after having long hair most of my adult life I was ready for a change and had heard from people in my area that Paul gave a fantastic haircut. The first time I went to Strand I was very impressed with the beautiful salon.. I am very picky and only go to up scale salons and this salon is like no other I have been to in the area. I was greeted immediately by a friendly salon assistant who took my coat and offered me coffee. The receptionist checked me in and shortly after I was set up in Jennifer's chair for my color! I was most impressed with the conversation Jennifer had with me prior to my service with her. She was genuinely concerned for the health of my hair and that the color she did was not only to my liking but was the most flattering to my skin and face. She did a technique I had not seen before.. I usually just get hilites in those tin foil things and she painted my hiltes on one by one free hand with no foil! Needless to say my color was beautiful! and the best part was the relaxing massage when I was getting my hair washed! I had my hair cut with Paul after and as I said I have always had long hair.. But just like Jennifer he was very concerned with what would look best on me.. SO I decided to take the plunge and get a different style than usual. The cut was spot on what I needed! He was very knowledgeable and pleasant. I have been back 4 times since and have sent several people their way as well who are also happy. I would highly recommend this salon to anyone looking for an experience outside of the normal ct salon! read more

I've been to Strand twice now and I won't be trusting any other place to do my hair! I first came here in June for the obligatory post-quarantine haircut after they re-opened. I requested for Sandra to do my hair based on her instagram profile alone, and I was not disappointed. She was super sweet and gave me the most beautiful shag cut, and instructed me on how I could style it. Fast forward to the beginning of August, I got my hair butchered by another professional at a different salon, to the point where it was breaking off and completely fried. I made an appointment and they scheduled me to get my hair done by Avian. I showed him some pictures of what I wanted, and he went to work. He was super friendly, and made me feel comfortable as we chatted while he worked away on my hair. He recommended a hair treatment after my color that made my hair feel silky smooth again. Avian's a total wizard because I never thought my hair could look the way it does after it had been bleached to oblivion. I even got a quick cut from Sandra, even though she had only been scheduled to blow dry my hair, and the fresh shag cut really helped to pull everything together and made my hair dreams a reality. Everyone at the salon is incredibly friendly and welcoming, I would highly recommend coming here. Yes, it is expensive but you really do get what you pay for and you are getting a luxury experience compared to other salons. read more

Wow. Where do I start? My Colorist was Avian! Right off the bat, I knew this would be an easy going experience. I feel like we bonded as soon as I walked in the door! I've noticed at other places it's a bit more difficult for me to break out of my shell. Avian made me feel right at home with all the right questions without making me feel small minded, and uneducated. The last time I got my hair done was August of 2019 at a different salon. They did an okay job, but let me tell you...Avian blew it out of the park!!! I showed him a few pictures I saved, and explained in short, I wanted to go lighter. I was ready for the transition and I told myself not to get my hopes up, as I wasn't expecting too much, due to my last experience elsewhere. But he exceeded my expectations! I found STRAND through a friend and was hesitant because due to COVID my budget was tight. But it's worth the money! The one on one, wait times were short, and the team effort, to make sure you get the best out of your visit, are all reasons this is the salon for me. I can't wait to go back, and to Avian specifically! He listens, tells you his opinion and his level of expertise so you know what you're getting yourself into, and Bam BLOWS YOUR MIND! I don't want to wait two months for my next appointment, but I know it will be worth the wait. Thank you Avian!! You're a rockstar! read more

My daughters, my mom, and I are were clients for four years. We are clients no longer. Very unprofessional, immature, and catty staff. PAUL and ALBIE are amazing! It's too bad the manager, one salon owner, and the remainder of the staff are the reason for the salon losing four clients and putting us in the position to not return for Paul and Albie's services. I did NOT no show. I did NOT cancel a card. Kelsey and Jenn retaliated against my daughters and mother for me leaving the salon to go to someone who no longer works for them. My daughters and mother were going to stay clients until these women acted so unprofessionally via phone, messages, and by evidence of the attached pictures, social media. Meanwhile, the other owner was messaging me trying to reconcile so we would stay and so I would take down the negative review. The unprofessionalism of a majority of the staff of Strand is disgusting. Lastly, the female owner called me crazy and told me she felt sorry for daughters for having me as a mother. And, to keep it going, the owner is making good on her threat to make me look bad on social media for not deleting my negative review on Facebook, as evident by the attached response. read more

Sandy was upset to learn that I had not requested her specifically and at that point she did not seem to care about me as a client. Sandy did not listen to a word I said. She put layers and angles in without asking and worked really hard to thin my hair on one side of my head because she thought it was thicker than the other side. I walked out with the exact opposite of what I had asked for. The salon provides a "wash". They rushed me through this process and did not even get my roots wet. Sandy commented that she could tell that I had well water because my hair was so dry. She even told me she could smell the well water on my hair after my "wash". I am sure there are nicer ways to sell products without insulting clients. I am not sure why you pay extra for Sandy. I won't be back to Strand. It will take years to get my hair back the way I like it. She made my hair look like it was half grown out bangs in the front even though when I went in it was all one length. I told her exactly how I wanted my hair and Sandy just completely ignored me. read more

If I can give this salon 10 stars I would. I started going to Strand last year (2019) and will not go anywhere else from now on! I've gotten my hair done about 3 times since COVID and the cleanliness was unreal. I felt super safe and appropriately distanced. I always feel welcomed when I am here. The whole atmosphere is amazing & beautiful! Also want to give a shoutout to Kate! I will forever go to her for any hair color/highlights. She is beyond skilled & pays attention to every little detail. I came in with reddish/brown hair, I wanted to go back to blonde (my natural color)...she reassured me that she will be able to do it but it may take a couple sessions. She was right, but worth the wait and I am in love with my hair now thanks to her! I would like to thank Sandy as well who always listens to what i say, cuts & trims my hair the way I like and need with also giving her professional input. She also does an amazing job between the conversations/cut/style! They are always recommending products specifically for my hair type which I love because they have helped my hair tremendously. Avian and Albie.... awesome on their own and even better together. I started seeing the both of them a little over a year ago. I was bored with my hair and I gave them both the freedom to do whatever they wanted. I'm so happy I did! I went from a brunette to blonde and so did my sister. I have my mom hooked on them too. We are literally obsessed! We couldn't be happier with Strand Salon, Avian and Albie. They listen to us, they use their creativity, stay up to date on trends and products, and they have awesome personalities. If I'm gonna spend a few hours at the hair salon and spend the money, I want to enjoy it - and I do at Strand! Before Covid, they had the cutest little snack bar with free snacks, every k-cup coffee known to man, fruit infused water and wine! And iPhone chargers! I seriously never wanted to leave. They've had to make some adjustments because of Covid so they don't offer all these beverages and snacks anymore, but Strand Salon and ALL of their employees still make the experience incredible. Just the energy in there is awesome. I drive from Boston to see Abian and Albie every 10 weeks. They are worth it!! read more

This hair salon is amazing! I have been trying to find a hairstylist in my area for years and no one could seem to get it right. After a friend went there and I saw how amazing she looked after she was done, I had to give it a try. It was one of the best experiences I've had. The staff is so friendly, funny and extremely knowledgeable. They know what looks good and most importantly what is going to keep your hair healthy and beautiful. While I was there I saw a woman getting her makeup done, a bride having a trial hair appointment (which came out looking amazing, she's using them for her big day), a man getting his hair done, trims, all over color, hilights....and everyone I saw leave the salon looked amazing. Not to mention the salon is one of the coolest decorated places I've seen. It's very trendy and modern and definitely very clean. There is no question that you must go to this salon. My first experience should have been my last... The owner sat me in a chair and preceded to ask me if I was giving myself haircuts and coloring it at home! My husband said not to go back but I decided to give them a second chance... Big mistake! I waited 2 hrs between a color and a haircut... I walked in as a blonde that I loved and walked out with dark hair with some blonde streaks... I hate it and have gotten negative comments from every friend including my husband who is normally very complentary... When I asked Jen why they chose Glastonbury she replied because she didn't want to take a pay cut and Glastonbury women are so vain they would pay any amount.... Paul speaks badly about clients that haven't even left the shop yet and the language is awful... I'm hearing more bad than good about this shop.... Perhaps they need to be back in Florida... I am shocked to read the last 3 reviews on this salon as my experiences at Strand have been the complete opposite. I have NEVER heard Jen, Paul or any other Strand staff member talk poorly of the residents of Glastonbury. In fact, I am pretty sure they love the town and are very excited about the success they have had in such a short amount of time there. Yes, Strand may be a little more expensive than your every day salon, but the service, atmosphere and cuts/colors you get from any staff member are well worth the additional cost. I would give Strand 10 stars if I could. Everyone is very friendly, professional and talented. I have a few friends who also go to Strand and also love the service they get there. I am sorry the other reviewers have not had a good experience but I can assure you, you are in great hands at this salon!!!! read more

I had an amazing experience at Strand Salon! I had my color done by Lauren and cut with Paul. Lauren was incredibly talented , knowledgable , and professional. She gave me a beautiful color that was exactly what I was looking for but also made sure that the health and integrity of my hair wouldn't be compromised in the process. My hair looked great and also felt great and continues to because of her product recommendations . Paul was just as wonderful. He made sure the haircut he gave me would fit into my lifestyle perfectly not just look good walking out the door. It's fun trendy and easy for me to style . The whole staff was welcoming and friendly , the atmosphere is so fun, upbeat, and very modern. I have been going to this salon for two years now and I love it here. Everyone is extremely pleasant and professional. My colorist Elizabeth is fantastic, she really listens to understand what you want and she knows color very well. She will set a realistic expectation rather than promise something that is not achievable or damaging to your hair. Sandy Sou is my stylist and she is also amazing. I've never had an issue with my cut or styling, I trust her to style exactly how I want. Albie has also cut/styled my hair in the past and he is fantastic as well. I started going to Strand about four months ago. My hair has never been healthier. No one see's color like I do BUT finally someone does. Jennifer Misciagno knows color! I would have to say she is the best in CT. She and Paul both took their time the first time I was there to make sure the result were what I wanted and what was best for healthy hair. I never have a problem getting in last minute if I have to cancel an appointment which is great. The atmosphere is fun, trendy, clean, and the staff makes you feel very comfortable. Strand Salon was absolutely amazing! I went in just a few days before my wedding last October 2024 with a vision, and they brought it to life perfectly. Vanessa did an incredible job with my hair--it turned out exactly how I imagined for my big day. Denise did my makeup, and it was flawless. Even without a trial run beforehand, their talent and professionalism shined through, and I couldn't have been happier with the results. I have been a customer at Strand Salon for almost a year. The Salon is beautiful and the staff at the salon are always friendly and inviting. Paul and Jenn are an amazing team. I have had my hair both colored and cut in the same day, while it does take some time (which I fully expect) - Jenn is a master at color and Paul is an artist when it comes to hair, they are a great team. came back to strand for a second visit. I had not had my hair cut since the last time i was there back in august 2014. At my second visit I had a major hair transformation... Lauren did a beautiful job coloring my hair with a color she recommended. The color is perfect! Sandy cut my hair and I have to say she did an amazing job!! I totally fell in love with my new hair color and style. I have gotten TONS of complements on my hair and I am very please with the results of these two talented ladies!!
