Instead, I walked out with something completely different: a white, frosty, color-shifting chrome that I never chose, never asked for, and would have never picked for myself. From the beginning, both the tech and the man in the salon (likely the owner) acted like my request was "complex," even though nude chrome is one of the less complex not to say the easiest styles. She gave me a color catalogue, I tried to be understanding, maybe my inspiration picture wasn't perfect, maybe shades vary, so I have chosen again a very nude pink chrome on the catalogue too just to make sure we all agree on the color, but I didn't even get the color I selected from their own catalogue and I somehow ended up with a blinding icy frosty chrome that looks nothing like the sample in their book or my picture. Under different lighting, the color shifts between white and pink/violet the classic beetle shell effect which is the exact opposite of the soft SHEER nude I requested. I even tried checking the color during the process. Every time she finished a hand, I wanted to look before curing; totally normal AND EXPECTED. Some salons even ask you to do so. But she wouldn't let me. She rushed me to put my hand under the lamp immediately, three or four times in a row, she would say " put your hand under the lamp!! " and won't let me take a look which makes it very clear she knew the color didn't match what I asked for and she was rushing to get the next client, I couldn't actually see the final result until the very end, when it was already too late and her next client was already getting her service !!!! That's to describe how rushed was the service. I forgot to mention that at the very beginning she kept bouncing between my manicure and someone else's pedicure! Unprofessional! The "massage" that was supposedly included was a joke, a tiny bit of lotion on one arm and less of anything on the other. She even almost pulled off my watch and smeared the band with the chrome powder because AGAIN she was rushing so much. I came with simple expectations, and I left with something I didn't want and didn't choose. I tipped the minimum to be fair because the salon is clean and the tools looked hygienic, and on a more positive note she was gentle with the filing and my cuticles, yes this is bare minimum and any salon should offer it, yet I do appreciate these little details; unfortunately it doesn't make up for a service that ignored everything I asked for. Sadly you haven't just botched a simple manicure but you lost what could have been a very loyal client!

As Maya Angelou once said, "People will forget what you said...what you did, but will never forget how you made them feel." I agree, but I must say that I will never forget what was said to me, what was done for me and I will definitely never forget how I felt during my very first experience at Z Salon, yesterday! From the moment I contacted the salon to see if it would even be possible for this newcomer to the area to be able to get an appointment... I was treated with so much care and consideration! Denise, Stephanie and Hannah all worked together and did their magic to ensure that I was able to get back-to-back appointments for my color needs and one for a haircut...on the same day! Oh my goodness! The next WOW experience was actually seeing how beautiful Z Salon's exterior is, in person, and then stepping into the building -- stunning and elegant! And it just got better and better...the staff members are all so professional, welcoming and very knowledgeable. I was very fortunate to have Sarah Jackson's expertise in the color touch up I needed done. She pampered me, from the first moment I sat in her chair...the neck massage was to die for! She did such a fabulous job with the color she used for my roots! And the pampering continued to having both hands & forearms massaged, before she took me over to sit by the fireplace to wait for my haircut appointment with Jacquelyn Stack. The WOW factor continued in Jacquelyn's chair, as I watched her transform my hair into a work of art! She took time to understand what I wanted done and then began to sculpt layers and lengths into such an incredible new look for me...a true makeover that left me speechless! She took so much care, too, in showing me how to style my beautiful haircut. And she even took time to touch up my lipstick to complete the look! It was the finishing touch that brought everything together! I could tell that both Sarah and Jacquelyn love what they do and they are outstanding at their craft! I feel so very lucky to now have them to turn to, going forward. I highly recommend Z Salon, where it's evident that the services offered and the ambiance of the salon have been carefully considered and each client is ensured to leave feeling extremely pampered and very special. Two part review. First part is for the masseuse, second part is for the facility. My wife and I went in for a couples massage. We arrived 45 minutes early and were split apart until our massage because Z Salon doesn't have accommodations for couples. This was majorly disappointing, the entire purpose of the couples massage was to spend time together. Masseuse (6 stars) - My masseuse was great, really, she was the highlight of my experience. Very communicative before the massage and the exact right mount of pressure and pace. For context, this is my fifth massage, ever, and - by far - this one was the best. I am writing this the next day and I still feel so relaxed and content from her massage. Kudos to her!!! Facility (3 stars) - Being split from my wife was extremely disappointing. We've had other couples massages where we weren't split apart. Keeping couples together, to me, seems like "Massages 101" but Z Salon can't do it until the actual massage. Once I was taken to the men's area, I changed into a robe and slippers then sat in a chair for 45 minutes with nothing to do. No water, no people, nothing. I sat in a chair and took a short nap. I wonder how much of my $174 bill was for that nap... I'm a big water drinker and was very thirsty. There was nothing for me. I could shower, I could use a sink and toilet and even a sauna. There seemed to be no shortage of water unless I wanted to drink it. I would have liked to enjoy the sauna but without any water to drink, no way! My wife's sitting/waiting area was altogether different according to her. She had water, was able to enjoy the sauna, she had a pretty good experience. Overall, I really enjoyed my massage but nothing else. I will not be going back to this place. read more

I will never be back. I'm upset about my hair. Alexis should not be doing highlights. I went in Saturday and sat in the chair from 9-12. The right side does not match the left side. Another stylist said that she was going to finish. Another stylist said "we are going to put toner in your hair and that service will be complimentary and won't cost you extra". They shampooed my hair and they kept huddling in a group and whispering about me. My hair was so matted and tangled I could barely get the comb through my soaked hair. My hair was dark and I couldn't see any highlights. I stopped to pay $65. When it finally dried my daughter and I noticed several sections on the left side, back and top that were not even highlighted. I received three phone calls asking me to come back to pay for the toner. I told them that was complimentary and did not cost extra". Then I received a voicemail from Lindsay who did apologize (which I appreciate), but the fact is : you could have apologized to me while I was there, you could have told me what happened instead of me finding out myself, you could have not charged me the 65, you could have made me an appointment to come in to fix what was messed up. I understand that people mess up I've been nice and didn't go off on anyone. But when I received a message wanting to know how the service was I'm letting you know that it was less than desirable. read more

Anastasia is a master at cutting my hair. I have had some bad cuts at different salons but she never ceases to amaze me with her skills! I have been a customer at Z since probably 2006ish but had to take a hiatus once when I moved to Florida on emergency for a few years. I will drive 8 hours to come to Z salon now that I live part time in Virginia and part time in Bowling Green, for truly amazing color with Emily, cut with Anastasia or massage with Julie or Autumn! They're my dream team! Julie is such a special person, I have been with her from the beginning and her right hand Autumn is just as amazing! I could spend all day in the spa but 90 minutes will have to do. You can't put a price on reliable and professional health/wellness and beauty services. The salon is always clean and everyone is extremely helpful and friendly. Any issue I have ever brought to them has been handled promptly, professionally and respectfully. Aveda is life so I can get all my products there and none of my family ever has to guess what to get me for holiday/birthdays. A gift certificate always makes me smile! I recently visited Z Salon and Spa and had the pleasure of having McKenna style my hair. She did an incredible job! I was looking for something special, and McKenna suggested curling my hair for a soft, bouncy look. I couldn't be happier with how it turned out! The curls were absolutely perfect--nice, voluminous, and they held their shape all day long. McKenna has a real talent for creating beautiful, long-lasting curls that still look natural and effortless. She took the time to make sure each curl was styled just right, giving my hair a healthy, lively bounce. Aside from her amazing styling skills, McKenna is so friendly and attentive. I love the way that everyone works as a team. Jacquelyn, who has been cutting my hair for years, is amazing. She always takes the time to consult and answer any questions I have on changes to my cut, or to give me recommendations on products that would work well on my hair type. My regular colorist has been out for a while and I needed my color and highlights done. Jacquelyn got me in with Valerie who had an opening come up. She had never done my hair before but Jacquelyn consulted with her about where to place my highlights for the best look with my cut, and which areas to avoid where my texture gets a little tricky. They got Alexis to shampoo and blow out my hair after, then everyone involved checked out the end result to make sure that everything came together; cut, color, and style. The results were great! Anastasia was so great! The head massage made me want to take a nap bc my kids were up at 5:30 am like the little rascals they are. She was a great sport (there has to be a better phrase than 'a great sport') to put up with my silly shenanigans of cutting my curly hair and my indecisiveness. She laughed at my ridiculousness and gave me a great haircut too! I even bought a hair product which I have never done in my life at salons. She didn't sell to me rather showed me how the product worked in my hair when she styled it. That's how it's done, my friends. The whole no tipping thing was interesting. It's baked into the price, which is great for ease and the pressure of not knowing what to tip if you're not privy to how tipping works; also has me wondering if she's well compensated for her time and efforts. I was greeted, checked in, offered a beverage and taken to a comfortable couch waiting area until my stylist was ready to take me back. I came in for a haircut with Krista. Krista is a sweetheart, friendly & very knowledgeable. I received a consultation first. Then went to the sinks to get washed, but first got an amazing scalp massage! Like what, omg! My cut & style turned out superb! I feel & look amazing! Krista gave me product recommendations (and the order & quantity she used) I needed it broken down for me! This place is fabulous, I was referred by an ex employee; Carolina for spa services with Bella and so glad I went here and not somewhere else for my wedding. The facility is clean and beautiful. It can seem loud and cramped in the locker room but lets be real, you're not there for the locker room but for the quality of the service. My husband got transferred for his residency to Louisville, and I am a self professed Spa Snob, after going to a high-end medical spa in town and was completely disappointed in the service I was hesitant to try this place. Best salon in Louisville. Period. I was way past due for a much-needed haircut and had reached the point where my hair was doing whatever it wanted instead of what I wanted. From the moment I sat in Krista's chair, she actually listened to me talk about the challenges with my hair--no rushing, no pushing trends that wouldn't work for me. Anatasia was very professional and prompt. I love Z's, I've been going there for a long time. The staff is very nice and helpful. The down side is trying to get an appoinment. They are always booked 6 months out because no one wants to work after 430 thru the week or the weekends, but I work until 430. They have tons of times during the day, but I'm not giing to burn vacation time to get my hair cut every 4-5 weeks. So I end up on the ever popular wait list text trying to get in. My hair cut was last night 3/25, and my next on the book appointment is june. Anastasia is a curly girl and thats what I need, after our consultation, she cut my hair dry, shampoo'd, applied aveda products which smell amazing, diffused, and my hair looked amazing. I was very impressed with the building, the greeting I received, the decor, and the beverage I was offered. My stylist Anastasia was very knowledgeable and clearly up-to-date on various techniques. What I liked is that she listened to me and then after making recommendations let me choose without any pressure. I also liked that she mentioned products that would really benefit my hair but afterwards never brought it up again. I appreciated not being pushed for the up sale. I like the all-inclusive price. But I was wondering, when somebody is coming in essentially for just a trim (a tiny bit off the back, a little bit of face-framing, and cleaning up the bangs) which is what I basically ended up getting and not the layers that I initially planned on, maybe there should be another price point considered? I can't recommend this place enough! I've been coming here for massages for a while now, and I decided to trust them with my haircut as well. The service is consistently exceptional across the board. The staff is professional, welcoming, and truly takes the time to make sure you're comfortable. My hair cut with Ava (who was in training) was a great job all around, hair wash, dry, cut, and style. I also recently had some out-of-town guests visit, and they went in for facials. They absolutely loved them! They couldn't stop raving about how refreshed they felt and how high-quality the treatment was. It's now my go-to recommendation for anyone visiting the area. Love Z salon and spa! The staff is amazing. The massage therapists are very professional and I feel like a new woman after each massage. I have tried other spas and not one comes close to how wonderful Z is! They focus on the areas you need focused on the most. All the staff are helpful and respectful. They are following all covid guidelines 100%. I feel completely safe going in for my massage. I can't explain how much I love Z spa! Can't wait til everything is back to normal. The steam room and sauna is wonderful. The facility is very clean! I have been going to Z since 2010. All the Aveda products are wonderful. Angela L. does an amazing job with my curly hair! I can't say enough good things about her and she is well worth the $95.00 per cut... I can't say the same about my experience with their color department. I decided to splurge and have my color done there. I was told basic color was $75.00 so I was very surprised to check out at $265.00 for both the color ($170.00) and cut ($95.00). I didn't like my color at all. I have attempted to reach both of the managers (both Laurie and Denise) to no avail. The receptionists block all calls to the managers and the managers do not return your calls. I am very disappointed with my last experience. Even though I have been going to Angela for years I will not go back due to the lack of customer service I've experienced. read more

The stylist I had was very rough when drying out my hair, pulled my hair every strand he pulled to dry, so uncomfortable, being there at a very expensive salon I didn't think it was right to ask him to stop, thought it was a one time thing and felt like this was the process at a high end salon. I was thinking is this how professional hairstylist work? I didn't even get close to cut I asked for, sure my hair texture was not what I showed but he didn't even try to give me close to what I asked for, I basically got a trim for $70+. He didn't even offer me a mirror to look at the back of my hair or the Final Cut all around, he finished curling the ends then walked me to the register to pay. This was my daughters first trip. The salon was nice and everyone was friendly. My daughter had her photos of what she wanted her hair to look like, she has super curly hair. She and the stylist talked, my daughter did ask that she keep length and just get her hair shaped...Instead, she lost all the length she had and cried for hours until she fell asleep. This was her worst nightmare on going to a salon and has a view now that she will never let anyone cut her hair again. She starts high school in a month and already has issues with being bullied for having curly hair and being heavier set & now she is terrified to go to school. My hair color appointment time needed to be changed because of extreme weather, snow. I have been going to Michelle for too many years to count. I was rebooked with someone I have never met, Ray. Frankly, I was a little nervous, especially when I saw how young she is, questioning her experience level. I even had to change-up my usual type of color service. Ray did a terrific job! I would recommend her and I wouldn't hesitate to use her again if Michelle was unavailable. My color was top notch. She also did some switch up with the washing out of the products. I did a 90 minute massage, and it still ended way too quickly! The pace was so relaxing, and much needed! Autumn did a great job homing in on what my body needed. The low lighting environment and soothing tones are perfect for deep calm and relaxation. The spa services are next level. I really appreciated the beauty of the women's spa room with Sauna, Steam room, and Showers! I was able to come early and enjoy the amenities, and shower post massage which left me feeling increasingly refreshed. The very nice woman who cut my hair tried, but I didn't end up loving it, in fact I hate it, but she did a great job of giving it volume when I have very little. I actually quite liked the way the back turned out, just not the front. I chopped it all off into a pixie. I'm not mad. It's only hair and I usually end up not loving my hair cuts, which is why I don't tend to cut it often or spend money on it. I was just hoping that if I went somewhere like this I would love the results. Will I be back? Maybe, but it's not because of anything other than I hate spending money on my hair. She not only provides truly excellent cuts, she does so for a price I can afford on my teacher salary. Shan is great about giving me cuts based on photos I bring in. She asks questions and makes sure everything is the way you want it before finishing. This year, I dove into coloring my hair for the first time, dying it pink for the summer. After talking through the color I wanted, Shan convinced me to go much darker at first to make sure that I'd have a color that lasted the season. When I went back in mid-August, the color was still fantastic, and I liked all the shades in between. I decided to go platinum rather than trying to return to blonde, and I've been back twice to renew my color since. When I went this week and asked about some temporary color, Shan recommended (and sold me) a lavender shampoo to add some color for the holidays--again, enabling me to have some fun during my free time with the ability to look professional again in a couple of weeks. Sensations Salon itself is super low key and easy to find. I've never had cuts from anyone but Shan, but everyone else seems super friendly, and I rarely have to wait too long for an appointment. Parking can be intimidating, but I'm almost always able to find a space right out front on Bardstown. I feel so fortunate to have found a great stylist who is also just a lovely, interesting, down to earth human. She's helped make this city home for me.

Not only did Katie make my short, difficult hair look awesome, she was quick! One bridesmaid had accidentally tanned a temporary tattoo into her arm, which Shelby was able to cover with airbrush, making it completely disappear. Both ladies were fun, easy to work with, and priced very well. Also of note, when additional family members wanted to have hair and makeup done the ladies accommodated as possible, but at a certain point they said, "No. Now it's time to do the bride's hair and makeup", keeping the bride and her mother from having to run that awkward interference.
