I went to Chantal. She wasn't bad as a hairdresser but I found her to be very rude and unprofessional.

This review is for brow and lip waxing with Lisa. I agree that Lisa is super friendly and personable, but I wish that she spent less time chatting and more time focusing on her work. She burned/ ripped off the corner of my lip and now I sort of look like the joker. I am pleased with the shape of my brows, but had to kindly ask her to stop digging in to pluck the hairs that were too short to pluck. She also never showed me a mirror after she was finished. I suppose I would come here again because she is lovely and my brows look great, but I'm a bit wary now due to the lip situation. read more

Ask for Stacy Lynn when you call for an appointment. In all my 35 years I have never found any stylist in Rhode Island who can cut and color like her. The way I heard about her was from a woman who I have known my whole life who always looks top notch and dresses to the nines. One day I saw her and her hair looked better than I had ever seen it look ( and it is always perfect). So I asked her who did it and she told me the story. Her daughter went to Stacy Lynn so she tried her too, even though she was 40 minutes away (typical Rhode Islander). This woman I know told me that what Stacy Lynn would be able to do with my look would be fabulous and told me to let her choose the style for me. So I did! and for almost two years I have had the best experience. Her cuts grow out beautifully. She is able to match my color to a tee. She seems to have captured my inner style. Everyone compliments me. I know everyone thinks their stylist is the best but Stacy Lynn at Strands outdoes herself. When I went to her I had boring hair no matter what I tried to do to it and now it is just like an accessory that shows off all my great features. read more

I went to Linda for a facial which was very good, she's also phenomenal at brows. Perfect shape just the way I had requested and almost entirely pain free (oddly enough). Dailyn fixed a horrible bang trim I had done at an unnamed salon (on Westminster) and managed to give someone like me who's never had a great hair day in my life...a great hair day. I am a city girl who just moved from Washington and this spot measures up. Definitely recommended. read more

I went to this salon 2 months ago to try to save my hair from a nightmare experience at another salon. I saw Stacey-Lynn and she was great. Now yesterday I was ready for a change so I decided to make an appointment and go back to see Stacey. I brought her nothing, no images, no idea of what I wanted, I simply told her I was comfortable with anything she wanted to do I just wanted to look different and of course look good. She asked a few questions (ie - where do I normally part my hair? What is the natural texture of my hair? Etc) then moved my hair around my face a bit while just looking at me. She never told me what she was planning to do which was a bit unnerving but hey I said she could do anything so I went with it. In the end she have me a 1920's inspired look and I LOVE my hair! I usually don't do much to my hair in the mornings but now with this haircut I've been trying all these new styles. I feel great and highly recommend her!!! read more

So I went here based on the advice of a friend to have my hair cut by Reo. I arrived about ten minutes early. I checked in and asked for water and was told it was in the back, then escorted to the back. There we learned the water cooler was empty, at that point the receptionist asked someone to fill the water cooler. That person responded, "sure can you wait" the receptionist said, "take your time it's only for a client". I am used to being greeted with a drink upon arrival. Already I was a bit nervous about this salon. After Reo arrived 15 minutes after my appointment was scheduled for...my hair was under way.... I really am dissatisfied with the way my hair turned out. I went in for a haircut, I had long layers that needed a cleanup. He said that he would give me long layers that would create volume near the top of my head, my hair ended up looking VERY choppy. The longest layer just looks thin and lifeless, my hair is pin straight and thick! No matter how I style it, curl, straighten (anything I can think of) it doesn't look good . The top layers make my cut look more like a mullet than anything else... ugh! Don't waste your time, I wish I hadn't, now I have to wait for my long hair to grow back. So disappointing. I wish I hadn't even gone. read more

Until I met Eileen at Strands, I wasn't picky about where I went to get my hair cut. It's not that I didn't care about my hair -- quite the opposite, actually -- but, rather, I knew that unless I went to San Francisco or Asia, no one I had ever seen in New England has known how to cut my poker-straight Asian hair. I figured that as long as I lived in the area, my o.k. trims were as good as they were going to get. Then I met Eileen, who is the only person to cut my hair for the last two and a half years. I can't sing her praises enough. I've sent my best friend to see her, and she came out of the salon smiling. Personally, I like the hustle and bustle at the salon, the chatter, and the laughter. It feels familiar and warm, far from the pretense or the chilling quiet (save for the hum of others' hair dryers) that I've experienced at similar places. read more

After researching and learning that Strands was a Bumble and Bumble Salon, I was very excited. When I called to make my appointment I explained to the receptionist that I was a previous client of Bumble and interested in someone who trained there. What was not told to me was that at each stylist at Strands owns there station. They booked me with Gail who immediately told me she was cash only and that it cost a fortune to rent a space there. When I explained that I had chosen Strands for the Bumble training she told me that she went to Bumble once and laid out thousands of dollars to learn how to cut bangs. Well I have a hard time believing that since she butchered my bangs. When I pointed out that I was not happy with them she told me that I would get used to it and t hat I had to start somewhere. In the end I now have to wear my hair parted on the other side. This is such a huge disappointment as I feel that I was lead to believe that I would have a Bumble trained stylist. I also feel she was rude, especially when she asked me what was wrong with me today and stated that I came in, in a bad mood. She also cursed like a trucker Not what I would call a good experience. My only salvation was my color came out nice. Needless to say that I will not go back. read more

This was BY FAR the WORST experience I've ever had with a haircut--and I asked for 1 INCH off, straight across; no layers, nothing difficult, but clearly she had no idea wtf to do with scissors and doesn't know how to listen. I had Gail and cannot stress this enough -- avoid her at all costs. She started the haircut by washing my hair and splashing water all the way down my back, so the whole thing began with a wet sweater. I sat down in the chair and picked up my phone and she proceeded to tell me phones "were off limits in her chair". I laughed out loud thinking she was kidding. She HILARIOUSLY told me that it messes up the haircut; so clearly she is just incapable of being a decent stylist because that is the most absurd thing I've ever heard - people can pick their head up when you ask them to, no need to BAN PHONES?! I have long hair so she made me stand the entire time, which would have been fine if the haircut was remotely decent or what I asked for--but it was the opposite, truly horrific. I asked for one inch taken off, and she genuinely took 4-5. I told her that she took to much, she denied it, told me it wasn't her fault the last stylist made it uneven. I never asked her to even it out--she took that upon herself, in the worst way. She also spent the entire time talked to her colleagues, turning off the blow dryer to chat with people, and looking at herself, fluffing her hair, and literally making eyes to herself in the mirror; it was disgusting, rude, and beyond unprofessional. I asked her to blow it out with body/a bend to the hair, not straight. She proceeded to take a straightener to my hair and make crimped creases in one place around my head. I told her to stop and that I was done and going to pay. She THEN told me that she only takes cash and I can pay her directly. For a 60-65+ year old woman, I would think she has been around long enough to tell a client something like that BEFORE the cut - what a complete moron. When I complained to the front desk, they told me they couldn't do anything, and I had to pay full price for the absolutely WORST salon experience I've ever had or witnessed. She chased me out the door when I didn't tip her - no one has deserved a tip less. Bottom line - if you go to Strands -- DO NOT GO TO GAIL. She's a narcissistic nightmare and has NO IDEA what she is doing. Overall - repulsive and worst experience ever; you're better off cutting your own hair. read more
