They originally did not have any appointments for my requested date which was fine since I contacted them last minute, but they were able to squeeze me in since I was just passing through and leaving town in a couple days. I got there a few mins before my appointment and Helen was a little late but her process and service made up for it. I previously had 3-4 curl perms at my normal salon but I was looking to straighten my hair back and get a trim. I got the keratin express treatment. I had a wash and cut, along with the treatment and my hair came out amazing. Helen was very meticulous and took her time with my cut, blow dry, and straightening. I have never been more satisfied with a haircut from a salon. I was told to wash my hair in 3 days and blow dry. When I washed my hair, it still came out a bit wavy from my old curl perm and I didn't have a blow dryer to straighten as I'm in the middle of moving but my hair has looked and felt healthier than ever which is more important to me. EDITED from 1 to 4 stars: The owner, Mrs. Julia, personally called to apologize and refunded me $30 to help rectify the situation. I was informed that the hairdressers are contracted out. Therefore, I would recommend going over pricing before sitting in a chair so you're not surprised when it's time to pay for services. I really appreciate Mrs. Julia's sincerity and customer service. ------------------- I went to this salon based off of reviews and service prices listed online. The establishment was nice and clean on the inside, there were only two hairdressers working with the rest of the chairs sitting empty. The original hairdresser I had booked with had a migraine and called out, so I was rescheduled with Helen. She cut my both children's hair. Both of my girls had trims only - maybe an inch a piece on dry, clean hair. That's it. No wash, no dry, no curl or style. Just trims. Based off the pricing online, I was expecting to pay maybe $20 per child (online said kids cuts are $13 and up). They charged me $100! For two trims! When I asked the front desk receptionist about the high prices, she verified with me that they had not received any additional services that would make the price increase that much, stated that she didn't believe the website had been updated in a while & that basically the hairdresser set those prices and there was nothing she could do about it. She was sweet and kept apologizing but I highly recommend you take your business elsewhere. The prices are outrageous and it's basically a "well, that's just how it is" attitude. I had been here once before trying to grow my hair out. That time I got a trim and it was fine. Today I decided I didn't have the patience to grow it and went in for a pixie. 1) I showed my stylist 4 pictures (all similar to each other). 2) I showed her how I wanted the back to look 3) I had the 4 pictures in view the entire time, leaving the display on without a timeout and the phone propped up. What I got was 1 - 2 inch hair. Then I mentioned it was not like the pictures at all and way shorter, she added a bunch of gel and spiked it up. She said she didn't realize I wanted my hair like the pictures. Why would I have them in full view and go through them with her first if I didn't want my hair like them. Hi, I don't usually leave reviews, but I had to leave one after my recent experience. I don't know if this is a family-owned business, but some of the hairstylists are terrible people. They are so rude. For example, Angie, one of the hairstylists, was so rude to the receptionist in the front. She was making fun of her in front of the whole store, and this has happened a few times. Helen made a world of difference for my hair. She is the first lady that cut my hair right! I usually have my own go-to haitslystlists in Vegas/home. I don't visit often enough to get haircuts there, and I'm glad I've found her at Strands which is close to to my mom's business. She listened to my needs, and was very helpful when I asked for more layers on the ends of my hair. She is very kind, and approachable. We also had nice conversations, it felt as if I've known her for a very long time. I'm starting to like shorter length hair even more. It's weightless, voluminous, and looks very healthy after Helen cut my hair with scissors instead of razor cut layers like other hairstylists. I'm loving the natural cut layers that falls on my shoulders. I had V-shaped layers for a long time. I was too lazy to get haircuts, and it still kept a nice style even after it grows all the way down to my lower back. The bad part is that my hair started to shed easily without brushing. I had to be very careful with my hair, and I wouldn't let anyone touch it besides my hairstylists. After Helen cut my hair, I felt relieved. I'm excited with my new haircut. It's a lot shorter, I get to be lazy again, and have even more time to let my hair grow out to my desire length. I wouldn't need a haircut until next year. That's a plus! First picture is after I paid $225 for a cut and color that she only spent 2 hours on including the blowout (but she didn't fix my hair after she dried it). The second is after Yolanda "fixed" it because as she said "her boss told her she had to." The last is what I showed her I wanted. As for the cut I asked her to trim the dead ends off and she cut 4-5 inches off. I know my hair is still long but I went from way past my bra line to I can't even put it in a bun because the shortest layers just stick out everywhere. It makes me sick to think how long it will take to grow back out to the length I like. I didn't post a review for a long time because I feel bad to mess with someone's livelihood but if she cared she wouldn't have let me walk out like that. Twice. And maybe this will keep it from happening to someone else. Owner was nice about asking her to fix it but never followed up or offered me any discount or anything. Reply to comment: Not ONE person has told me my hair looks great I am not sure what the owner is talking about. They all say oh honey I'm so sorry. You can obviously see the huge yellow/brassy stripes in my hair. I could have probably gotten better results with an at home highlight kit and saved about $200. Besides the length. And I did not say I have anxiety I said that my hair was the one thing about myself that I always felt really great about and now it makes me want to cry every time I look at it or when I run my fingers through it and the length stops way before I expect it to! read more

EDIT: I never demanded free service and I have all the screenshots to prove it, so you can try and make it seem like I threatened you for free service all you want, the proof is right there. I asked to be reimbursed because you were being unprofessional and rude and stated "my hair looked fine" when it wasn't, so of course how I reacted wasn't going to remain the way I originally approached you. I was never a difficult customer, but the owner to this business is more worried about her Yelp reputation and stylists than she is her clients, which she continuously keeps proving to me. I will be providing screenshots of my conversation with the owner below. All I wanted was for the terrible highlight job to be corrected, but I was greeted with the attitude and response that "my hair looked great, why am I complaining?" Is this seriously how a business owner responds to a complaint? I NEVER said all I was going to pay for were highlights. I NEVER EVEN WANTED HIGHLIGHTS, but Helen was EXTREMELY PERSISTENT that I get highlights rather than what I wanted and because this is her profession, I trusted her. The price didn't matter, that's exactly what I told her and you. My boyfriend would have paid for whatever I wanted. Anyone coming to this location, please beware. If they mess up your hair, they are going to make it seem like it's your fault and tell you "it doesn't even look bad" when CLEARLY you can see what is wrong with my hair in pictures. AS STATED BEFORE, my hair looks okay when it is all down, but once you lift it, you can see the monstrosity underneath which can also be seen in the pictures I've posted. Maybe you need glasses, Julia, so you can see the HORRIBLE work done to my hair. It's okay, not everyone has the mental capability to comprehend when they are in the wrong. Arguing with such people leads to no where. Let me tell you how this should have been handled. Instead of hiding behind the phone, YOU should have been present when I returned to YOUR business to receive my correction. YOU should have checked my hair. YOU should have questioned Helen why she let me walk out of YOUR business with my hair looking the way it did. YOU should have apologized for Helen's mistake or hell, at least Helen should have. I should have just gone to Visible Changes like I normally do, at least they get the job done right the first time with stylists that have less than 20+ years of experience. I woke up this morning and I was doing my hair for work. I work in the heat, so I usually do a half updo and the "highlights" that were done yesterday do not look good. I asked for a solid color, but my stylist, Helen, INSISTED that I get highlights. I trusted her.... My hair only looks good when it is all down, but when you separate it, you can see the blotches and harsh lines. I showed her a few spots where the harsh lines could be seen and she "corrected" it, adding more time to my appointment, but I am not a fan of the correction, either. I am not satisfied at all, actually... For the price I paid, I would have expected much better and to top it off, I am going on vacation in 3 days and what am I supposed to do? Keep my hair down every single day while I am in Florida? I am so disappointed. I decided to give this business a chance to correct their mistake as the owner reached out to me and I am attempting to be a civil as I possibly can. We tried Strands for 2 kids hair cuts (ages 10 and 8). My girls went for shorter cuts and were serviced by JoAnn. They asked for a pixie and a shaggy cut, and got styles slightly different but still flattering. I was charged $90 total for 2 kids haircuts. I made an apt through the yelp app and had made a detailed request to get a hair perm. I confirmed the spot for Friday and when I showed up, the stylist explained that she couldn't see me because apparently I was scheduled for a hair cut and blow dry. I understood and went ahead and scheduled for the next day. My stylist was pretty great, she stayed after closing time that day and did everything very carefully. There are some parts that the curls didn't really hold but it's ok it's not so noticeable. If it wasn't for the mis-scheduling I'd give the rating 5 stars. read more

Got my hair done today. I showed the stylist a photo of the balayage that I wanted. It looked nowhere near the photo. It was patches of blonde and horizontal brown lines at the crown of the head and roots. Very patchy. The hair stylist should have told me she doesn't know how to do a balayage instead of me spending my time there. I made her redo it by adding more brown to the top, but instead she did an all over brown color. She charged me the price of the balayage. I told her to just charge me for the one color instead, but she didn't. She didn't even finish straightening my hair because she had another client too. I spoke to Julia the manager to see if I could get a portion of my money back since I don't even have a balayage. She was very unprofessional and was laughing at me. She accused me of lying. She refused to give me a portion of the money back. She said that the salon doesn't do refunds. Save your money and spend it somewhere more professional and where stylist are up-to-date with hair styles. The owner/manager, Julia, is very rude. I had a really great experience at this salon a couple weeks ago. I was immediately greeted by the receptionist who offered me something to drink with a friendly smile. The salon had a very nice decor and was very clean. I did not have to wait and was greeted by my stylist at my appointment time. Be sure to ask for Yolanda de Simone, she was my stylist! I was a little disappointed to pay $75.00 for roots and walk out with sopping wet hair. It was additional for the blow dry. Last time it was 35.00 extra for blow dry, I thought it was a mistake, but I liked my color and thought.. if I do the Yelp review like Yolanda requested and she even got two referrals, maybe next time she'll at least towel dry me. Guess not. Too pricey for me with just roots. Womp womp There's a small shop on Eldridge that charges $45.00, but she was on vacation. Think I'll stay put.
