Strange Brew is a nice place for brunch or breakfast. Decent pricing and good food. Service is usually very nice, and wait times aren't too bad. The place is small and cute and just overall, if u have the time for a coffee/tea and a bacon egg and cheese... this is definitely a good place to go. I would call it an mix of a diner and a Dunkin' Donuts/Starbucks, but with the charm of a more modern restaurant. read more

Nice coffee shop, looks nice, good place to work, hangout, meet with people. The problem is the coffee is terrible! The beans they use for expresso have a really bad after taste. The quality of beans is not good. I have to admit that I am from a big city with really good micro roasters that have excellent coffee beans so I might be unfairly judging this place against coffee shops that are not here. Perhaps this is the best available in town. If you don't know much about coffee you might not notice it as too bad and find this place to just be an average place. By far my favorite "go to" place for coffee and hang out times with friends. The owners are the best people on town, all the service from each server and cook in that house is on top, the breakfast omelets are delicious as are all their sandwiches. I work out at the gym right around the corner from this adorable cafe, and sometimes I park on Washington. This has proven to be a very dangerous parking choice, and I'll tell you why. You walk into Strange Brew and it's open seating. Not packed, not too distant, just comfortable. You can smell fresh grounds and something delicious, maybe egg? Order up, sit down, they'll call you up or bring it out. The staff is friendly, there are huge windows to people watch from, two surprisingly comfortable couches to chat on. And WiFi, very important. But the food! I can't stop getting the garden sandwich on an everything bagel. The bagel is toasted perfectly (and I do mean perfectly. We all know what an imperfect bagel feels like), the aioli is... witchcraft. Pretty sure it's witchcraft. Nothing should taste that good and light up that many happy buttons. So good. I'm also really, really fond of the hot chai latte. It's a little on the sweet side, but by the time I hit the cafe I've already had my normal coffee. Something sweet is perfect. To put the cherry on top of this sparkling cake, my girlfriend, who frequents NYC and is the worst coffee snob I've ever met, approves of Strange Brew. read more

On Sunday 8/15/21, bathroom was unsanitary with no toilet paper in either dispenser (at 10:00 a.m. on a Sunday). Also scalding hot water as soon as you turn on the faucet. Told male employee who seemed to be in charge. He was rude and dismissive and asked if I looked under the sink for toilet paper. Uhm, nope. Not my job! Then they gave my iced tea to a different customer when I was in the bathroom. We were eating outside because of Covid. I asked if the new tea could be brought to me outside, same rude male employee said no. A lovely, helpful, female employee said, sure, I will bring it out to you. Very good sandwiches and dessert bars. Vegan blueberry crumb cake was wonderful. We had tuna sandwich and a chicken sandwich and the Mac/cheese sandwich. We also had the regular Mac and Cheese dish. Service was terrible and food was mediocre. I had never been to this place and I didn't realize it's more Starbucks or Panera than dine in Cafe. I ordered a BLT with chicken and herb mayo to go. I realized when I got home that they put cream cheese instead of mayo and it totally threw off the flavor of the whole sandwich- there was so much globbed on that I could not scrape it all off. I was also charged for added chicken on a different breakfast sandwich that I did not request. The blueberry coffee cake was also very dry and small and almost 5 bucks. Cozy little shop. Im sure it gets extremely busy when school is in season. It was winter break so twas quiet. My boyfriend and i shared the pulled chicken sandwich and the buffalo chix mac and cheese. The sandwich was delicious. Chicken was super fresh. It was so good we didn't even take the tomato off (we hate tomAtes). The buffalo mac n cheese had good flavor and wasn't very heavy which i liked. But it was actually a bit too spicy for me. What caught my attention is the sign with the lavender matcha tea...as I entered the cafe I liked the environment as the room was very open and a clean cafe vibe...the guy taking my order was helpful with creating my custom grilled Mac and cheese! They called my name when my drink and food was ready. The lavender matcha tea had a fruity pebbles taste to it which I loved! The grilled Mac & cheese was yummy and filling! I was able to connect to the Wifi easy on 5G...the staff were very friendly and took my plate as soon as I was finished! I have been going to Strange Brew since they opened and I am never disappointed. I use to go here to study all the time in college and I have tried almost everything on the menu, and have never had something I didn't like. My favorite is the chef special salad, the mustard tarragon dressing this salad comes with is delicious!!! I also love the coffee here, especially their lattes. Of course, we chose to walked over from our nearby Airbnb, as it is easy to find in a city commons area and a pleasant walk among the Christmas lights and crisp December air along the Susquehanna River. My husband ordered a large black dark roast & breakfast sandwich. I ordered a medium cappuccino & a keto wrap for about $22. The staff is friendly, and more importantly, they know how to make a fantastic cup of coffee; my cappuccino was amazing . The food was hot and delicious, as well. I think this place is good when you come for the atmosphere (socialize with friends or do work). The food and drinks are pretty average in my experience. It's also unfortunate that their chai and matcha lattes aren't vegan (so for any vegan non-coffee drinkers, not many options other than tea). I like the chai tea latte the most, and the matcha is good but it tastes like cereal milk, not matcha. Their blueberry scones are really good! Prob my go-to dessert snack when I come. This place has only been open for two weeks now, and I've been here five times already! Great food, garden breakfast sandwich on a crescent was excellent, Mac n cheese is an excellent choice as well! Though the sandwich was slightly smaller than expected, the California sandwich tasted great, loved the avocado! Coffee and tea is above average for the area. I personally work at Starbucks and prefer strange Brew's coffee and tea. Their macha latte is far better than Starbucks! Also it is a great place for a student as myself to relax and do homework with a good drink. Definitely a good choice. Also their desserts are excellent, the peach cheesecake is my favorite so far. And to clarify, their credit card machine is fine, there was a problem their first day or two, give them a break. read more

The service is ordinarily very slow, so I decided to pre-order online for pick up. I arrived 40 minutes later to pick up my order, and when I stated I had an order for pick up I was asked by the barista if I was "budging" in line. I was under the impression that ordering online beforehand was meant to skip lines, and how belittling to ask me if I am budging. I am not a child. My order was ready and just behind the counter, or soon I would find it was not completely ready as my coffee was not even made yet after 40 minutes of waiting. I've been here a few times but I'm kind of stuck on getting the same dish each time - mushroom omelette with muenster cheese, greens, sliced house bread with jam and hot chai (I have switched my drink for a hot chocolate the past few times and it was AMAZING!) the menu seems simple but that's bc it's one that has been perfected. Strange Brew is yet another place that has been hyped up by countless Binghamton students. However, this place wasn't disappointing like many others. I came with a friend on a Sunday afternoon and it wasn't too crowded but they were running out of seats. The interior was cute, modern, and a little quirky but it was all cohesive and made for a great setting. My friend and I ordered two four cheese mac and cheeses, a wolfberry melon iced tea, and a taro milk tea. They steep their own tea, which is great so the teas took a few minutes to come out. They both tasted great but the taro was pretty expensive. The wolfberry melon was sweet and fruity and reasonably priced. The mac n cheese was a little lack luster. It was fine but could have had more flavor. My friend and I both ended up taking advantage of the hot sauce on the table in order to add a little more flavor to the mac n cheese. Overall, it was a pretty good experience; I would definitely come back for tea and I look forward to trying their coffee. read more
