Im reviewing the seaglass for the Mother's Day brunch. There was a set menu and you chose one dish from each category. Drinks were not included the price. When we were seated at our table, there was a basket of fresh bread and pastries. Muffins, focaccia bread, apple pastry and rolls, along with a berry butter. The menu included breakfast and lunch items. Although it was early I decided to go for a lunch entree. For my starter I ordered the roasted carrots. They were crisp with a slight char topped with shaved fennel and dill. The two sauces that accompanied them were delicious. The cashew creme was my fav. The entree I chose was the rack of lamb. Black garlic risotto, carrots and roasted peppers were the sides. The jus was rich and had a deep flavor. Very good choice. Dessert was a choice of carrot cake, vegan chocolate mousse or a berry tart. I took the carrot cake home and had it later. It was probably the best carrot cake Ive ever had! Even some of the finest resorts and hotels restaurants are average at best! The Sea Glass is an exception! We were at the Inn by the Sea for a 3 day stay to celebrate our anniversary! We planned a dinner in nearby Portland but were so impressed by breakfast and lunch at Sea Glass we decided to stay put! You can see the ocean from the dinning room, which is always a plus. The wait staff is very knowledgeable about the menu and I benefited from asking about their favorite dishes. They had a lot of gluten free options, I would recommend their specialty entrées. I had a good experience asking if they could be made accommodating for my food allergies, even if it wasn't listed on their menu as being an option. If you have food allergies or dietary needs, just ask them, it was my experience that they were happy to help and had more options than were listed on the menu. They don't rush you, so you can have a nice relaxing meal. You might need a reservation, so call ahead. Sitting by the window was my favorite place. Don't skip dessert! read more

We had two great meals at Sea Glass during our stay in Portland. The weather was warm enough to sit on the patio and the second time it really wasn't but they had a heat lamp which made it pleasant. Our server recommended some twists to a few of the dishes and I ended up enjoying an off-menu creation! One thing to note: They allow dogs on the patio and I believe they allow them indoors as well. We had no issues but if you are concerned about being around dogs it's worth noting. read more

This is a beautiful inn with a lovely garden and view. Given the high prices to stay at the inn, we anticipated a special lunch. The corn soup was tasty, but the meal veered downhill from there. My farmer's salad with salmon was tasteless. The fish was overcooked without any seasoning, and the dressing had no flavor. My husband's fish was also bland as was the sauce. I was still hungry so ordered some focaccia,, which was the first time I couldn't eat bread served to me at a restaurant. Lunch was $126 without any drinks. If I had known, Panera would have been a much better choice, as would have been a Big Mac. read more

The place is very pretty. My wife and I both went there for dinner and had the Gulf of Maine Lobster for our main dish. It was very good, but not great. The New England Clam and the Watermelon Gazpacho were just OK. We split an order of Deviled Eggs, and that was both interesting and good. Sea Glass is not cheap, which we knew going in, and while we enjoyed our dinner there, we found there to be better alternatives in the Portland area at this price point. Also, the waitress we had was VERY chatty with other customers during our time there. These long conversations were taking place while we were waiting for our dishes to come to our table. Four friends and I rented a VRBO home in Cape Elizabeth, and our helpful homeowner recommended Sea Glass. When we arrived for our farewell dinner the hostess warned us that service might be slow, as they were flooded with room service orders; however, our service was timely and our server excellent. We shared two appetizers, Miso Glazed Brussels Sprouts and Potato and Truffle Croquettes. They were both very good, but the Brussels were outstanding. Two of us ordered Grilled Lobster Tail, removed from its shell and served on bucatini, with asparagus alongside. They pronounced it excellent. Another had haddock stuffed with lobster, crab and zucchini, and loved it also. My entrée was perfectly seared scallops served on velvety asparagus purée and crisp summer succotash that included corn and small bits of zucchini and red bell pepper. Just perfect. I was worried about the ambiance, as an unhappy toddler was crying at the next table; but they left soon after we arrived, ensuring us a pleasant dining experience. We gave the dessert menu a flirting glance but did not indulge, though the selections were tempting. Wish I had taken photos! read more

We live close by and go to Sea Glass at IBTS frequently. My girls love to go by there in the morning for brunch. The food is excellent and has never disappointed. The service can seem a little slow but it seems to be more aimed at giving you space and peace as you enjoy the ocean breeze -and view. read more

The first time I came here, I ordered the s'mores martini... yum. I ordered it again the next time, and when it came, they hadn't drizzled chocolate syrup inside the glass, which is like the only reason I wanted it. My rating is because on their website, under a large headline claiming "VEGAN FRIENDLY," they state the following: "In Sea Glass, Chef Chadwick celebrates healthy and ethical eating with vegan menus even loyal carnivores love." THUS, both times I've gone here, I asked what their vegan options were, because I didn't see many on the menu.... They only have ONE vegan entree. I just want to know; why the false advertising? Don't get me wrong, it's great here. It's beautiful and classy. I would have easily rated 5 stars today if Sea Glass, who has a 2-paragraph blurb about veganism on the front page of their website, had more than one vegan dish to choose from. For my main I had a crispy chicken sandwich as I loaded up on seafood the previous days and the sandwich really sounded good. It was horrible, barely eatable, old bun, old chicken (must have been previously frozen) and fried beyond crispy, rather, so you dare to bite it. Travelled to Maine from Buffalo, NY with my friend from Nebraska. Yelp searched for brunch places and this restaurant came up. We were staying in Downtown Portland, so this was a 20-30min ride. As my friend and I pulled in the parking lot not knowing where the restaurant was, we spotted a valet attendant and asked him to direct us to the location. We parked the car and headed to the restaurant. "MASKS WERE REQUIRED TO ENTER".. As we entered, there was a waiter standing by the door. He greeted us and asked if we wanted to dine in or out. We said we wanted to dine out, he stated that our wait time would be about 20mins. While we were waiting, he asked us if we would like to order drinks while we waited. We said sure and proceeded to the bar area. The bartender handed us the drink menu, pointed out their specials and then also asked if there was any drinks we wanted him to make that's not on the menu. I got the Sea Glass Mojito and my friend got the Margarita. After about 15mins the waiter came back and said the table is being cleaned and we will be seated in about 5mins. And just like that 5mins passed, he came and took us to go seat outside. Outside seating was amazing, it was nice, quiet and the view was just amazing with the flowers in the background and fresh cut grass. My friend and I just sat there in peace not even talking to each other nor looking at our phones for about 10mins. "MEDITATION AT ITS FINEST" A few minutes later, a waitress came and introduced herself. We were ready to order, so she took our order and told us how long our order would take. Also asked if we needed anything, we were waiting we just needed water. She brought the water in the glass bottle with lemons that we requested. I got the Chicken Caprese Panini(the waitress it's one of her favorite order) and my friend got the Grilled Salmon. The waitress brought our food out in about 30mins and boyyyy was it delicious. We enjoyed our meal and our drinks. The service was phenomenal, the place was super clean, safety was put first and the view was great. After we ate and payed our bill, we took some pictures by the flowers, then walked down the boardwalk to the beach area. Spent a little time there took some pictures, then walked back to the car and headed back to our hotel. P.S. they grow their own tomatoes and before we left one of the waiters gave us one a piece to go. Came here for breakfast with a view and it was absolutely divine. The service was great, the view of the gulf beautiful but the food was exceptional. Two items stood out: nutty porridge and corned beef hash. Nutty porridge tasted healthy and had layers of flavor goodness . The corned beef hash is made in house and it was probably one of the best hash we've ever had. I wish we were there longer as we would have returned for breakfast again. read more

A beautiful dining room tucked off the lobby of the Inn by the Sea serves up a gorgeous view and some good eats. A bit aggressively priced for small portions though. The mussels in chorizo tomato broth with focaccia croutons was the best dish of the night. The lobster roll however one of the weaker versions I've had in Maine. Virtually all shredded meat, with no claw or tail identifiable, this did not satisfy a primary goal of this trip. Pork and oxtail stew over polenta was a winner, perfect for a raw windy early spring night. Had some nice mid-day snacks here yesterday, in the as-always beautiful Sea Glass setting. We had the charred carrots with herbs, honey, and a goat cheese mousse. These were very good. I suspect the goat cheese mousse lowered the temperature of the dish, as it could have been a bit warmer / hotter, but it was still delicious. The brussels sprouts were very good, and were served with a light miso glaze, bacon, small bits of peanuts, and sage. Unlike the brussels sprouts that we had at Boone's in Portland, these weren't swimming in sauce, were easy to eat with no mess, and were very tasty. The mussels were fabulous as well and we substituted Sea Glass's incredible fries for the bread. The view was terrific, the service was excellent, although a bit slow at first (but we didn't have a reservation), and the food was wonderful. Looking forward to our next return. read more

This restaurant has a lovely view, but the food was not great--certainly not worth the price tag. I was there with family for dinner. Everyone tried something different, and only one of the five of us was pleased with their meal. Even the cocktails were not great. (Not sure how you mess up a gin and tonic...) Also, the staff seemed overwhelmed, and the kitchen was running behind. We may have caught them on a bad day, but I will not be making the trip back there again. There are so many great restaurants with nice views in the area where I would rather spend my time and money. read more

Stopped in here after seeing the Inn by the Sea advertised for while researching a vacation to Maine. We didn't stay here but stopped in on our way. The gardens were pretty and a nice view of the ocean while sitting out on the deck. The view is more "distant" than expected but still relaxing. The Sea Glass Spritzer was well balanced and refreshing. The corn chowder and New England clam chowder were the stars of this meal. So delicious and packed with flavor. The corn chowder was sweet and savory at the same time. So unique! We have the pork belly Caesar salad which was delicious and the bucatini and clams which was very good. The downside was that the soups and bucatini were not as hot as they should have been served. The service was friendly but very slow. Glad we stopped in! The soups bumped this from 3 to 4 stars. read more

This ocean front inn has an elegant and serene classic New England ambience. The dining room was quiet and comfortable including the lighting . It flowed well with the maritime fireplace and spectacular ocean view. Maine's North Sky beer was refreshing. It tastes and smells of the area. Our clam chowder was delicious. It had good sized chunks. The caesar salad with pork belly was cooked right. I don't know if it was fried or baked, it had a great taste, crispy outside, moist inside. They were serving this delicious hot cider with cookies in the lobby. I really would like to stay there in the future. read more

Great view, hotel-feel decor, and inexperienced service. Indoor and outdoor dining options. We lunched here, having stayed in the hotel in years' past. The menu is varied although not Maine-centric. Main dishes for lunch ranged from normal items like a roast half chicken, pasta with clams, lobster roll, burgers, and a fish sandwich. Other strange items included a General Tsao Tofu and an egg salad sandwich on special. More typical hotel fare menu than I would have expected. But hey, if you're not staying here, you're here for the view. The service, however, is strangely young and inexperienced. For the life of me, I can't understand why servers and staff aren't put through a rigorous training program before they start work. Our waitress stood behind us (craning my neck to speak to her), so I asked her to come in front of us like a normal waitress. She asked ya to order, without telling us the specials; we had to remind her to do so. She also was unfamiliar with elements and ingredients in the dishes. Again, a bit unprofessional. As for the cuisine, the food is fine. Caesar salad was tasty if merely ordinary; minestrone soup was served less than hot, but well made and flavorful. Half chicken was also decent, if overglazed, and was well made, although the burned spatzle was a kitchen error. Lastly, someone had a dog with them at the table - in a seat. Is that even allowed? So strange. Overall, a decent hotel meal with a lovely view. Three stars at most. read more

Not only was there absolutely no acknowledgement of our anniversary, the wait staff was completely overwhelmed such that it took 45 min to receive our initial drink order, an hour before our first course was served, and the amount of attention received would be surpassed by McDonalds as food was thrown at us and never checked backed on again.
