Just a review of the indoor range, I haven't bought anything from Double Action yet. Excellent neighbor indoor shooting range. 100 ft range with about 10 lanes, well ventilated and lit. Prices are reasonable ($24/hr for rifle, $19/hr for pistol). Someplace local to go to for a little shooting therapy. Will repeat and recommend! read more

I have been going to Double Action for years and have NEVER had some of the experiences that others write about. I have no way of knowing but I wonder if they did something to provoke the employees. Having spent my fair share of time at gun stores and ranges I can understand the safety precautions required to have a safe environment. There aren't many ranges in the area that you can compare against D.A., They have a very clean range and it'll shoot out to 50 yards. Target Sports for example is only half that distance which is a joke with a rifle. They have a lot of guns and accessories for sale, everything from muzzle load to sport rifles to those horribly evil black guns everyone is talking about. If you aren't careful you may end up spending more on a gun than some other local store (but a lot less than Target Sports!), however when you factor in the free range time it comes out about the same. The CPL course offered is fantastic, the instructors do a wonderful job not only on the firing line during drills but by intelligently answering questions. I found it to be in the middle price range for this kind of course but given that the range was in the building unlike a cheaper alternative, it seemed like a worthy cost. Like one reviewer mentioned, don't expect to walk in with an AK or similar 7.62 rifle and expect to shoot. When I asked about why they ban these guns I got a very polite response about the cheap steel ammo people were bringing in hidden from sight and how it was damaging the bullet traps. If you want to shoot that round, Close Quarters Tactical and Action Impact still allow it (last I checked). If you decide to head over there and can conduct yourself in a polite and respectful manner you will have a fantastic experience. Remember that they deal in very dangerous products, they won't tolerate unsafe practices on the range and I'm thankful for that. read more

I like the place and the staff is generally kind and helpful.. But there's one sales rep who needs to keep his d*** in his pants. He's rude and very unfriendly for someone dropping big bucks in there shop. I saw him yell at an old man who sweeped a unloaded gun that was cocked back past him and said he was hostile and he was going to draw on him-___- I've spent years in the military and there was no reason for him to act that way?? I don't know what some other people are refering to in terms of having issues with the staff, and frankly I am shocked at the low amount of stars awarded to this store and range. We have spent a great amount of time here, consulting with one of their representatives in regards to weapon choices, pros and cons with different handguns and tons of other miscellaneous questions and concerns we had. Pat was the gentleman helping us out, and he is one of the most knowledgeable and friendly people I have come across lately. He answered all of our questions and taught us a lot of different things during the time spent with him. I have to say that other than Pat we have had contact with about four other guys here as well, and all were equally friendly and patient. Some other stores have a tendency to make you feel unwelcome and honestly quite stupid. I don't understand their attitude about not wanting to deal with people that have questions, yet not being willing to explain anything. This store is the first place where we felt welcome, respected and valued as a potential customer versus a hassle, and we have been to many in the Metro Detroit area. No snootiness here, and that is why we will be customers for a long time to come. read more

As a country girl living in the city, I find D.A. Is one of my favorite indoor ranges around. I shoot a bow, handguns and shotguns as a long time hunting enthusiast, so I choose D.A. for the good ventilation, long 50 yard range, and serious and knowledgable staff. It's a great place to keep my skills as a marksman sharp on the off season. What I really like about this place is that they respect me as a woman customer and do not treat me different. They have a great variety of guns for rent and for sale. I bought my sig 232 from DA and was very happy with it, but my weapon of choice is a good old 22 gauge shotgun. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is the long wait times and the fact that they don't enforce the rules very well - there's a lot of people in there fooling around that shouldn't be, and some like to fire off continuous rounds and it's annoying. read more

They have 2 shooting ranges. One for handguns (50 feet) and the other is for rifles and alike(100 feet). The range prices are good. They don't charge you extra if you have an extra person on the lane. I shoot here but have yet to purchase a firearm from them. This place can get really busy but I have no problems with these guys at all. read more

Went to Dick's Sporting Goods last night for the Thanksgiving sale; wasn't impressed:( Did pick up a 30-06 rifle with scope (Savage Arms)that they didn't even want to initially adjust. Found out that Double Action had an indoor rifle range. The guys zeroed my scope, showed me how to handle the weapon, taught me rules about transporting, and made me feel as if I had just purchased the new Mustang GT from them! Good customer service guys! Told my family members about the experience (lot of gun women in the family). Will definitely be back! read more

Visited Double Action to use the range for the first time. Their price on .223 ammo was reasonable. Staff was very helpful. I was having an issue with a rifle that I recently purchased and was unfamiliar with, I stepped out of the range asked if someone could help me out and someone came out pretty quickly and was able to show me what I was doing wrong right away. I had a great experience here. I wanted to learn target shooting. Sara was extremely helpful. She shared her experience with the .22 pistols I was looking at and provided recommendations. I rented a .22 pistol a few times to get the feel for it. Within a week I'd made my selection and purchased my first gun. I purchased my first new weapon from Double Action yesterday. It was something that I've been looking for all over town and stumbled on it here at a very good price to my surprise. The transaction went smooth and reasonably quick. What I was impressed with was the 6 month membership to their range that they included in the sale. I thought that was a nice touch. They give you a very nice ID card and the first hour of range time is free. The non member range fees are still a little steep for my wallet but manageable. Superb place for shooting range !! Of course this is my first time here. I love to visit this place @least once a month. I m just a beginner and don't know how to shoot .. The guy in the double action taught us how to hold a gun, how to load the bullets and all the tips . Stood behind us all the time ,watching us and teaching us is the best part!! I really enjoyed going to the shooting range this one is one of the ones that are closer to me and offer handgun rental and the staff was more than willing to help and give their suggestions my only complaint is that the shooting range was absolutely freezing which space heaters were available but did not help much if you're going to come here to shoot I recommend in the winter bringing full winter attire to keep yourself warm. Some of the staff were very nice and pleasant. Now the jerk range officer that came in to tell me I was shooting too fast him is another story. I was shooting right at a second per shot, I know because I was there 2 days before and was asked to shot that way, but he goes on to tell me 2 seconds between shots. Absolutely the worst place to practice any live fire drills. No double taps really. In a defensive situation you would die with some crap like that. I was also rushed out the range at 4:58 even though they closed at 5:00. San part is I've several thousand dollars worth of guns there. Time to find a new spot. read more

This is my neighborhood range. Bought all my guns here. Staff is great, Ian has been very helpful in showing me the different handguns to fit my needs. The ranges are clean, most everyone cleans up there spent brass and cleans the counters off. Friendly customers too. I was having a hard time with a gun I had never shot before and rented it to see if I wanted to buy it or not. A nice couple in the lane next to me saw I was having a hard time and offered to help. I was shooting like a pro in no time. They sell just about everything you can think of. Bought my EOTech here for my AR and love it. I only wish they had a concealed carry clothing section. But that would take up a lot of real estate. Anyway drop on in sometime, it's a great neighborhood range and pro shop. read more

Shot the rifle range for a half hour on a Sunday when it was very busy. The staff was friendly and put me in queue for a lane, after a short wait I got started. They supplied me with about 10 paper targets that were included with the $18 fee for 30min of shooting. Range was well ventilated and had no issues with my time in the lane. This range is reloader friendly! Only rule with ammo is no steel core bullets, they will check your ammo! But any reloads are okay and they let you pick up brass as long as it is behind the firing line. I would recommend using a brass catcher for a semi-auto rifle though as most of my brass landed ahead of the line. read more

Nice place. Sean is extremely nice and helpful, he helped my friends and me figure out what pistol best fits each individual person. There is not a huge variety of products but I'm sure they can always help you get what you are looking for. The range is well ventilated and it was an all around good time. Terrible customer service. I went there with my girlfriend and her younger brother and his friend. We didn't LOOK like we knew anything about guns (I'm a military member with police training), so the staff treated us like we were a nuisance to them. Then, when we wanted to use two credit cards to pay, the staff gave us the dirtiest look and horrible attitude like we were asking them to split an atom or something. It was my first time at this shooting range and it will be my last. Avoid this place of possible. They do NOT want your business. read more

Do Not Bother! I am new to the city and state and was looking for a place to shoot my Ruger. I have been to a few different ranges, so I know the general ins and outs of a range. I stood waiting for 10-15 min around the counter, waiting for someone to just acknowledge my presence. A few employees paced back and forth behind the counter. After standing there with some merchandise...was looking for another gear bag....I decided to put it back and confront one of the employees. He sent me over to another employee who blurted out directions...swearing throughout his sentences and acted like a pompous ass. Attitudes are everything if you want my business. Went for range time to practice with my handgun. I hadn't been to the range before so I was unsure of the policy. My gun was unloaded with nothing in it and the guy asked what type of gun I was bringing in. I went to pull the gun out of my purse to show him (I thought we had to prove our firearm) and the guy started scolding me and telling me it was his "teaching moment" I profusely apologized and was very sincere on the verge of tears. He kept going for about 5 minutes yelling at me. I understood why he was upset and knew I was in the wrong. That was until he decided to threaten me for assault and forced my boyfriend and I to buy a box of ammo because "it was the least we could do" and we said no three times. He forced us into it and charged us $18 for a bottom of the barrel box of ammo that would normally cost $8-$10. Hope threatening someone for a $18 box of ammo was worth losing 2 lifetime customers and every person we know in the area. read more

*VERY RUDE STAFF* My dad and I went here today at 4:30 pm to shoot a couple hand guns and a .22 we rented to to see who can get closer to the "bullseye" as possible. Anyway, 10 mins before 5 pm a man with orange hair came in and very rudely told everyone to wrap it up. My dad said, fair enough we better start packing up, so we did. When we went out of the shooting room, the man with orange hair started cleaning. We soon realized that we forgot the plastic box container thing with the little 10 round mag in it , I volunteered to comeback in and get it. The same man cleaning in there was in our booth so I said, "hey sorry I forgot the container let me get it real quick" he handed it to me saying in a rude tone and i swear this is what he said, "yea that's right bring it back like your supposed to" and when I walked away he muttered," fucking idiot" they seriously need to have a n employee meeting because the people in here are very rude, no mannered scumbags that think they're better than everyone else. **WARNING - STRONG LANGUAGE DISCLAIMER** Let me start out by saying I am absolutely shocked that this place is still open. I went in here twice and both times were horrible experiences. These are the rudest and crude bunch of "men" you'll ever encounter anywhere. I used their shooting range a few years back only to be screamed at by some meat neck asshole about rapid firing when I was obviously doing no such thing. Their "range boss" or whatever they call him is a complete jerk and walks around like he's got a problem with everyone. I was firing a round, quickly lining up the next shot and firing again, about 2 seconds between rounds. This is not rapid firing. The guy in the lane next to me was shaking his head in disgust listening to the guy harping on me for what he called rapid fire and starts talking gun safety with me like I'm some 15 year old kid. In the middle of his rant I began packing up my gear and pushed past the guy to leave. He turned red and looked like he was going to have a stroke. Anyways needless to say I didn't return for a few years and did my shooting elsewhere. Well then recently I was looking to expand on my 12 gauge shotgun that I was restoring. It has been abused quite a bit over the years from hunting in the rain, snow, sleet..etc. so I was looking for some parts to restore its luster. I went in here because they were one of the only places who carried the stock I was looking for so I walked in and told them I needed some help. This one guy totally ignored me and some other guy sitting behind the counter asked in a real shithead tone, "What do you want?". I told him I'm looking for some accessories for my... and before I even finished my sentence he jumped in with "What kind of accessories?! You looking for make up?! You want some lip stick or something? This is a fucking gun shop and we don't carry lip stick. If your fucking pussy hurts we don't want to hear it!". Pure... Red... Fury. The thoughts flooding into my head of what to say or do were indescribable. The guy could see it in my face so he stood up and puffed up his chest. He was like a magnet. Every cell in my body wanted to go after him but after a tense moment I simply shook it off, smiled and told him I was prepared to spend a couple hundred dollars on shotgun "accessories", but that now I was going elsewhere. He acted like he "won" and told me that was fine and to go ahead and get out. Bottom line is that this place is full of hot headed, better than you are, tattood, jack boot thugs. It's not a good business, it's not a good place to take your kid to teach him to shoot, it's not a good place period. Avoid them or they may try to bait you into something like they did me. As unbelievable as this account of my experience with them is, I assure you that this is exactly how it went down. I'll never be back. read more

I've only been there three times, as they're some distance from my home. The first time I went there, I dealt with a young women who was extremely friendly. I told her it was my first visit, and I was just looking around to see what they carried. She said sure,, have fun, let me know if you need any help. The second visit, perhaps a month later, I was looking for a specific gun, and while they didn't have it, they were still very friendly. The third visit, a few months later, I was actually spending a fair amount of money on reloading supplies, and the guy I dealt with was surly, bordering on hostile. My first visit. Horrible customer service from an older bald guy. Slaps the paperwork in front of me and was very pushy. "Sign here, here and here." I ask him, "do I initial here?" He says, "That's the date! You know, as in 4-18-2012!" It didn't say date on the box, which is why I asked. His tone was so ridiculous I thought he was joking. I was immediately pissed and he could tell. Then tries to have me sign for a range membership. I said I'll pass for now. He aggressively crumples it up. I ordered a gun online, and was told that double action is a great place to receive your guns from. They told me the transfer fee is $75.I am a military member asked for a military discount, and they chopped it down to $50. not mad at the point that it cost that much. But I had my girlfriend call and they gave her a 10 times lower price, had a friend called and they gave him a lower price as well. I would have to say they have lost a customer. I called up there and spoke with a manager and he said that some of the people don't know about the change. I felt that it was sexist and raciest.
