The indoor range is OK. You can certainly do indoor shooting if you want w/minimal intrusion from the staff, but the guys on staff are just NOT an overly friendly bunch. They're not rude, but if it comes to actually buying a firearm, I'll take that business someplace else. read more

This is the closest location that I can think of for Target practice. Not many around here, I don't think. I would come here periodically with a friend of mine, who used to be in the military and was very well trained in arms. I was given a half hour instruction before coming to the target shop. They set you up with the target paper, with a man on it. You can rent or bring your own guns as well. They have the headphones to help block the noise, thankfully. It can get very loud in there and my heart kept skipping a beat every time someone with shoot nearby. It's an interesting activity, even did it once on a date. I don't generally come here alone, as I feel safer and better with someone with me, just in case something happens. :) read more

I won't be returning to this facility. First they wait to tell you till after you pay, they don't allow you to pick up your brass and take with you. I'm sorry, that is my property, and it is mine to keep if I want to. The range is not in good condition, and the targets are always waving around (apparently from the ventilation system). Let me start off by saying I am not familiar with guns whatsoever. I came here on a date with me dude and Ive been wanting to try it for a while so we came. I didn't read any reviews before I came here, but that's probably for the best because some of the reviews that I'm reading now would've scared me off. We both came to the range as first timers. The guy that helped us was very informative. Taught both of us how to hold a gun, reload, how we should stand, what to expect, and picked out two guns for us to try and I really appreciated that because we definitely needed that information. The other guy who worked there (I'm assuming it's the owner) rushed him along and rushed us along when more customers started to show up at the shop. I could tell they were trying to rush us because they wanted to get to every customer. We shot for 30 minutes, used all the ammo between the two of us for each gun. I think we spent about $70 which I thought was a little pricey for 30 minutes, but again I had nothing to compare it to. Overall, I thought it was a good date idea. It was a good first experience, I felt comfortable, I learned about the guns and shooting and I had a good time. read more

The selection pre covid/civil unrest was some of the best around. Once things calm inventory will be top notch again. No cheap junk here people. If you buy a gun here it will do it's job and protect your life. Mid level good guns for a average shooter to high end stuff for anybody who take this seriously. Range. Not the longest but gets the job done. Personally I like the range as I buy bulk ammo and I can bring in my own ammo to shoot. Some places like action impact that's a no go which is lame. Accessories. They Have a full selection from cleaning, mags, cases, holsters, lights and optics. Not much else you can ask for. Also class 3 dealer. Which means you can rent full autos for the range. Buy and transfer silencers. Even have the kiosk in the shop to do instant fingerprints and photos. Easy day at target sports. read more

Note: I did not use or visit the range. This review is just for the store. Went to purchase a new Glock 29 as I felt it was time to have something bigger than my old reliable G26 groin gremlin. The folks there acknowledge my presence in a timely manner, didn't seem judgmental or standoffish at all. It was a good experience overall. The one star reduction is for price but take it with a grain of salt. The G29 should be $580, but as often as you see that price, good luck finding one. They had one in stock for $120 over, which I went ahead and purchase cuz of the value in the time I'd lose price-hunting. But yeah, they're not cheap. I didn't experience any of what so many reviewers have noted, nor was there any indication the place tended toward those sorts of issues - none I could see in the hour or so I was there anyway. I was pleasantly surprised. Oh! And they actually had 10mm ammo in stock! No one, and I mean NO ONE, ever seems to have it. Basically this is a 4.5 star review but Yelp won't let me do that. Unfortunately the negative reviews of this place were all accurate, as I visited the store today. I asked the owner for some assistance with my first gun purchase, and he didn't stop walking or look me in the eye, while he said "just pick one out and we'll ring it up", and continued to do paperwork. Then an employee shook his head in disappointment, while he bad talked the owner (his boss). I felt like a nuisance to the store where I was ready to spend a grand at. I was looking to purchase my first handgun and so I walked in, the gentleman behind the counter approached me and asked me what I was looking for and how he can help. As soon as I mentioned that I didn't really know much about handguns, he replied, "it's simple just pick one and buy it, and let me know if you find one" and then he went back to filling out paperwork. I thought that was very rude very uninformative so I hung around for a few minutes taking a look around and I basically walked out because I felt that I was treated poorly. Visiting, and I knew there would be a range near where I was staying, so I went to do some shooting practice. As an expert - and as a hobby certified firearm instructor myself - I looked around the store side of the business, and I was impressed by how well stocked they were - compared to gun stores in California where the merchandise on display is so sparse that you think you're in a Soviet era supermarket with three carrots, two potatoes and 5 cans of soup... But I digress. While we had to wait at the range counter for a few minutes to allow a class to be all figured out, once we registered we paid and were given a lane. The folks behind the counter were all business, and that's just fine with me. The range is not big by some standards, but pretty similar to any one indoor range in California I have been to. The only complaint I had is that it is probably time to do some back wall maintenance, as we were hit three times by ricochets, me twice on my left bicep and stomach, and my guest once on her leg, and she actually got nicked because the ricochet hit her on the shin breaking skin... givin this 2 stars because the staff is knowledgeable and the store itself has a nice variety of firearms and accessories. Takin a star off because when I took my CPL class here they said not to bring ammo because it's provided. I thought that would make sense because the class was $100. when it came down to shooting I ended up having to buy a box of 9mm that was way over priced. I think I payed like 20ish dollars for 25 rounds. Not the end of the world but still annoying. Everything at this place is also top dollar. Sold my buddy 9mm hollow points for like 55 bucks. Takin another 2 stars off because the range itself is barely monitored. A lot of new shooters would use this range and sometimes it would feel pretty dangerous in there. People would take their gun out anywhere paying no attention to where it's aimed. The last time I went, some man took his rifle off the range and loaded it while it was pointing right at me. I attempted to visit this range today as my home range has not re opened due to Covid. I called ahead to confirm pricing and hours as well as general rules such as caliber and ammo requirements as I was traveling a decent distance to this establishment. Upon arrival I was directed to the range counter to register for a lane. After a lengthy wait I was informed that basically all questions that were prevously answered on the phone were answered incorrectly. The pricing per hour was incorrectly quoted by nearly double for me to instruct my wife on the safe use of our firearm. I expressed this and the man I beleive was the manager did instantly offer me a refund and no other solutions which is why he gets one star. Also 0 stars is not an option. What an incredibly arrogant, crude, dismissive, and rude bunch of individuals!!! Do yourselves a favor and stay away from this dump!!! I have never owned a hand gun and have been thinking of purchasing one. When I entered the showroom to inquire, I waited about 8 minutes or so before anyone would even acknowledge the fact that I was there, although they clearly saw me waiting. I was then asked if I had been helped. To which I stated no not yet, and that I was looking for information about a first time purchase. The clerk then told me that he had some forms to deal with, but would return in a minute or so. He walked farther down the length of the counter and began waiting on customer after customer after customer, and never returned. After about 10 or 12 more minutes.... a man who had appeared and acted during this time as though he was "in charge".... approached the counter where I was standing and rudely asked "watya want!!" I again explained my purpose, at which point he very clearly, facially displayed his annoyance and irritation with me, and blurted..... "pick something ... tell me which one .... and then you can do your paperwork". He then turned on his heels and again began strutting up and down the length of the counter. I'm not sure why this place has such a bad rep. I've been in a few times lately and they've been nothing but helpful and respectful. They are also doing a good job handling the volume going along with the COVID-19 pandemic. I purchased Trijicon night sights from them yesterday afternoon. When I got home and the sun finally went down I noticed one of the lamps wasn't working. Due to the reviews on here I was nervous as to how they would handle resolving this for me. I went in the next morning and they put a new set on, no questions asked, and said to come on back if anything else comes up. For me that's exactly what you look for in a business, standing by what they sell and helping their customers if something goes wrong. Range lanes could use bullet proof dividers to protect against unsafe or inexperienced patrons, otherwise the place is legit (fair prices as well). read more

I bought my first handgun here in 2001, and shot at their range almost exclusively, until I moved back to California in 2005. The employees were always friendly to me and never gave me any attitude typical of most LGS. I personally have never dealt with any idiots on the line flagging people or acting in an unsafe manner, here. After returning home to Detroit a year ago, I recently decided to go shoot there again, since it's the closest range to my new home. Same friendly employees are there and they still have a large selection of firearms. I shot my G23 and G19. My G19 was shooting left for me, so I though maybe my sights may have been off, since I have always been extremely accurate with my G19. I mentioned this to the guys behind the counter as I was checking out, and one of the employees was kind enough to use his own ammo to take a shot with my G19 to see if the sights were off. He hit a dead-center bullseye with his first hot. So I guess I was pulling left. The only reason I'm giving them 4 stars instead of 5, is because the range is pretty dark and the ventilation system could be a little better. But the price is right. read more

Bought my first LR .22 for practice the same day, & got a free complimentary month of range time. went back today to get my first handgun, got the same respect + a chance to shoot a mag off for free. I would first like to say that I have shot here multiple multiple times over the past two years since moving to area for one specific reason: I reload my own ammo. This helps me keep the cost of shooting down and shoot more often. The very first time I went into the shooting range I asked the manager if I would be allowed to pick up my own brass since I reuse it for reloading. I was told yes as long as I was not reaching out with the broom into the lane or stealing brass from other people's lanes. Today, I was shooting and cleaning up my brass when an employee came up to me and said "You can't do that, it is against our policy." I politely informed in that I had always been allowed to take my own brass home and at this point I was asked to talk to the manager. This manager, the same guy (the australian) that had given me permission the very first day I shot there, reiterated that fact that you cannot pick up the brass. When I told him that I ha been given permission in the past he asked who had said I could, and I told him "You!" To this he responded "I would never say such a thing." I asked to see the written policy regarding this matter and pointed out that there is no signage saying otherwise to which he replied "There is none, that is just the policy." If they want to sell overpriced guns to unwitting consumers and charge top dollar for everything, that is their God given right. But I cannot stand being told I am a liar to my face. I know that manager recognized me and he straight up refused to acknowledge that he had ever given me permission. If they had changed their policy or something I would have understood. These guys are cheats and swindles and obviously are only in it to make money and not please customers. More and more I understand why people join private exclusive gun clubs to avoid places like this. read more

There is not one thing good about this place and that's the ammunition stock. Everything about this place is terrible. The staff are the nastiest people I have ever dealt with. Not only that but they don't even care about your business. Prices are high, selection is decent but there are a ton of other better gun stores around Detroit. I highly recommend you save your time, money and mood and go somewhere else. A store who actually appreciates your business and a store who actually cares about their customers. ***if you want to read where I get shot/grazed, skip to paragraph 3*** Well, well, well, what can I say. I actually got shot at this range today. Literally!!! When I first walked in and walked around I immediately saw that mostly everything was overpriced. I was actually amazed at the insanely high markups. Free market so, whatever it is what it is. Anyway, I was instructed I had to sign in to use the range. No problem, I signed in and browsed some more while laughing to myself at the prices. Nobody asked me if I needed any help or anything. After about 15 minutes, I think it was the owner asked who was next for the range. That would be I. He asked me if I had any ammo with me. I said "yes sir", the owner explained that I can't shoot my ammo .223 or 5.56, and he only wants people to shoot "his" ammo. After his stern explanation he rang me up. First, checking my 6 Magpul clips with a huge magnet to see if I had any steel tip ammo, which I did not. He then said "go ahead use your own this first time since you seem like you like know what you're doing". I thought that was actually cool, so I offered to buy a box regardless, but the owner said, no worries. Sweet, and proceeded into the range. Here's where things get absolutely bananas! I was placed at lane 10 so I walked over, and started setting up my AR15, clips etc. There was a couple next to me in lane 11 shooting a pistol, while clearly shooting steel tip ammo. Sparks flying everywhere. It was like Iraq in their lane. NUTS! I'm thinking to myself "I thought you couldn't shoot steel tip anmo here?". No sooner than me thinking that, the guy in lane 11 takes a shot at his target, and zzzzzippppp! I get hit in the shoulder with a piece of steel tip that deflected off the back stop down range. I shouted "WTF I just got shot!!!" I immediately looked at my right shoulder of my track jacket, and there was a piece of hot shrapnel melting into the shoulder of my track jacket. I immediately started feeling under my jacket and t-shirt to see if I was bleeding, and if I was ok. (Let me be clear, at this point I realized I hadn't been directly shot, but grazed by the steel tip bullet that deflected off of the end stop down range, shooting back at me). The girl, and guy in lane 11 immediately stopped shooting. They both had a look of shock on their faces. The guy on staff in the range immediately told them "hey, you can't shoot steel tip here" (a little late to tell them now, don't you think?) he immediately had them pack up and leave. During this time, the owner was looking through his window into the range, and I believe saw the entire ordeal unfold. He said something on the PA system, and the two people in lane 11 along with the range master left. The range master (for lack of better terms) came back in about 30 seconds later. I will say this, he didn't ask if I was ok, the couple didn't ask if I was ok, the owner didn't ask if I was ok. NOBODY DID! I was in utter shock, and disbelief. I hunched over and said out loud "I don't think I want to fucking shoot here, I'm shook" at this time I picked up my rife sitting on the counter in my lane, and tried to pull my clip out. Of course it had to be jammed for some strange reason. I just kept thinking, I need to get the hell out of here. The range master came up and said, "hey is your AR15 jammed" I'm thinking to myself, "yea it's jammed, and I just got fucking shot!!!???" I got the clip out, packed my stuff up and left. Walking out, nobody asked if I was ok, nobody said anything to me. In fact they looked at me like I was an alien. I walked out in a mental fog in disbelief of what just happened. I have to say this was hands down the craziest thing that has ever happened to me. I have shot all over the place, and have never experienced anything like this. If that steel tip bullet would've been one inch to the left it would have hit me directly in my right shoulder and done serious damage. Or worse, if it would've been a foot to the left it would've hit me directly in my head or face!!! Thank my lucky charms it only grazed my shoulder, melted a tiny hole in my jacket and tore my shirt under, and hit the back wall. All of this being said, I am shooting up a flare to tell EVERYBODY not to go to this place. The range is extremely dangerous. The lanes are just wayyyy too short, and poorly designed. I only go to Target Sports when I want to rent a gun to try-before-you-buy. Their selection of guns for rent outshines all other local places; however, their rented guns are infrequently cleaned and prone to jamming, which can be hugely disconcerting for a new shooter. 1.) Ventilation: they have greatly improved their ventilation since I first starting going here in 2001. Their ventilation still isn't nearly as good as Double Action. 2.) Functionality: this range can accommodate handguns and long guns, but puts restrictions on the long guns you can fire. Plenty of classes, some taught by highly skilled tactical officers. 3.) Capacity: simply put, capacity sucks. If you come here after 5 on a weekday, expect to wait 30 minutes for a lane. Don't even bother coming here on the weekend unless you have lots of time to kill. The parking situation is abysmal. 4.) Staff: usually understaffed, but knowledgeable and courteous. 5.) Value: range time is consistent with local pricing. You must purchase ammo from them if using a rental gun, but other wise you can bring you own. Purchasing notes: their guns for purchase are hugely overpriced. Look elsewhere. A female perspective: In the early 2000's they were openly derogatory towards female shooters. They've since cleaned up their act, but I've spoken to some women who have still had bad experiences; it appears dependent on their perception of your skill level. I don't recommend first time female shooters to go here, as Double Action is close by and the experience is generally more positive. read more

With the customer service offered at Target Sports, it is truly a wonder that they are still in business. Their survival thus far can only be thanks to their location - On one of the busiest roads in the United States, in an affluent area. These guys give gun people a bad name. Rude, condescending staff who for some reason think that because they work there, they somehow magically have more knowledge than the consumer, and in turn don't need to treat the consumer with respect. You've got to walk in with cash and be ready to buy whatever they want to put in your hand. Looking for a specific model they don't have on hand? Kick rocks. They may offer to order for you, but you're going to pay the shipping and all associated fees. Prices for in stock units are MSRP at best. Read the other reviews. The story is the same. They don't act like they want your business, so don't give it to them. I highly recommend going to Huron Valley Guns near Milford. It may be a hike, but their selection is outstanding (at least 5x what is offered at Target Sports), prices are fair, sales are frequent, they offer reasonably priced accessories, magazines, holsters, etc, and the shooting range is the most advanced I've seen in Michigan. And best of all, the staff is happy to be there, and happy to help you make the right decision. read more
