I had this Italian ice over a decade ago when they had a stand at Monmouth park and have been waiting patiently to try it again. I finally had my chance yesterday and finally got to go to the adorable little stand in long branch. They had a lot of flavors I am interested in trying (peanut butter, root beer) as well as classic soft serve ice cream but my favorite is cherry ice so I went with that. Same refreshing treat that i remember but the flavor was a little underwhelming so Rita's still is my favorite but definitely will return to try the other flavors. It's not a complete beach day without getting an Italian ice! Strollo's Lighthouse has been a Jersey Shore staple for over four decades. The main selling point is their homemade Italian ice, but they also offer soft serve ice cream, shakes, hurricanes, root beer floats, and sundaes. What sets their product apart is the fact that they pioneered the concept of dispensing Italian ice through a soft-serve machine. This allows them to produce a consistent, quality product that could be made much faster compared to using the old scoop method. They have your classic flavors like vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry as well as a variety of fruity flavors like cherry and mango. They keep staple ones throughout the year, and rotate seasonal ones weekly. The Long Branch location is conveniently located right across from the Seven Presidents Oceanfront Park. The parking lot is tight. There's plenty of tables outside to enjoy your treats. They are CASH ONLY, but have an ATM machine. Lines can be long, but the employees work quickly and efficiently to keep things moving. We got the Pistachio Italian ice in a small cup ($4.75). Portion size was generous for a small! I've gone here for YEARS. Great product. My go tos are lemon ice and a chocolate dipped vanilla cone. The lines are usually long. The parking lot is tight. There are tables outside if you don't want to drop ice cream in your car. Cash only. read more

I have a buddy i visit often nearby and lately its been impossible not to the the day with a stroll to Strollo's! Depending on the weather and the night, the lions could be pretty long, but they moved pretty quick . Cash only but there is an ATM on premises. Nice little dessert stand located a short walk from the beach / ocean. Operated by three women, they offer soft serve (normal or dipped), Italian ice, and hurricanes (effectively DQ Blizzards). A number of flavors and dips to choose from. On the Italian ice side of the house they had: lemon, pistachio, organs, mango, cherry, chocolate, blue raspberry, peanut butter, and a couple others. Only vanilla and chocolate soft serve, but could be dipped in many things and/or topped with sprinkles, M&Ms, etc. I ordered the Large Italian Ice. You can pick up to four flavors. I chose three: lemon, pistachio, and orange. Lemon and pistachio were my favorites. A friend got cherry, chocolate, and blue raspberry. Didn't much care for the cherry or chocolate, but blue raspberry was very good Excellent value. My order was $5.75 There are 3-4 picnic table to sit at and eat. read more

Quick pointers: Cash only! No more than a dozen parking spaces. Super friendly staff. Must visit if you're visiting the beaches in Long Branch. Refreshing dessert spot for soft-serve ice cream and Italian ice. A stone's throw from Seven Presidents Oceanfront Park, this is the perfect cap to a long day at the beach. The soft-served ice cream is flavorful, and not overly sweet. The Italian ice maintains itself in a rich, creamy slush that is less watery compared to a lot of other Italian ice places. Additionally, there is a variety of unique flavors of the Italian Ice (the peanut butter is a must!) to try. There is an ATM on-site if your stranded with just cards. The prices are what you would expect for frozen treats, averaging around $5.25. When I tell you that this is some of the best soft serve ice cream that I've ever tasted.. I'm just really glad that this place is about 35 mins from me, so that I'm not pressed to visit a couple of times a week. LOL. Came here after a day at the beautiful Seven Presidents Beach.. and it was the perfect way to cool off before ending our day. Very friendly and accommodating service. They were generous and understanding with our very indecisive girls who needed refills of sprinkles lol. Very clean areas to sit down and eat your delicious treats. I ordered the pistachio Italian ice which was very interesting.. non dairy but was tasty. But, it was the sample of the vanilla soft serve that took me over the top... but, I'd already placed my order and didn't want to be a greedy buzzard. Believe me, when I'm back at the shore.. I love Strollo's, I think the one in Red Bank is marginally better but this location is great. Tons of street parking available in the evening, the parking lot is tight and normally a traffic accident waiting to happen so avoid it if you can. I haven't had their ices but friends have and liked them very much. I normally go with their soft serve which is solid. My favorite is a Vanilla I've cream Hurricane (think Blizzard) with Peanut Butter cups or Oreos, delightful and a good deal at $5.50. Half star off for parking and half star off as recently I had a soft serve that was very icy as opposed to their normal creamy. Normally there are many tables to sit but with COVID19 some of the tables need to be closed. The staff is friendly and the tables are always clean. read more

A summer staple! They have a rotation of ice flavors. I usually go for the squeeze cup or cup. I also really like the cookie crunch on the ice cream--it reminds me of the inside of an ice cream cake. Strollo's is a solid Italian ice spot and always busy in the summer too. read more

After being at the beach I was looking for a refreshing Italian ice. When I looked up ices on Google Strollo's came up. It was a nice place to stop by after the beach. I went around 5 pm and it wasn't crowded, the service was fast. They have a lot of ice flavors but the ice I got was average. For a small vanilla soft serve and a large ice it was $11.25 so the prices weren't bad. They have outdoor seating and a parking lot as well. If your looking for a cold ice and a place to sit outside after being at the beach, this is the place for you read more

Stopped in for some ice cream since jt's one of the few things to do during quarantine. Funny thing was we were actually at one of their competitors across the street and they were only taking online orders where you had to basically make your own sundae for $8, no thanks. Anyway, Strollo's was busy for an overcast Wednesday at the end of May but there were tons of teenagers there. Very quick service, 4 lines open to keep people part and plenty of reminders to do so. Their parking lot is busy, be careful backing out for sure. Also CASH ONLY! The ice cream is great and the atmosphere was much needed. I ordered a combination of vanilla frozen custard and root beer freeze, which ordinarily would be a perfect combo for me, but the vanilla frozen custard was truly inedible. It did not taste like it was a real dairy product, and the gummy texture of it was extremely off-putting. The root beer stuff was fine, but that vanilla product was truly nauseating. read more

For icecream, the people here have thought of so many flavors you could only catch at a reduced fat yogurt spot. Here, without compensating for the lack of icecream taste(like a yogurt place) you have the full rich ice cream experience, and full on flavor. Having never been, we went with my wifes go to, a chocolate dipped vanilla. Being that i was so full from another place, i couldnt eat even a small cup of ice cream on my own so we shared. The chocolate used is so deep in flavor, though frozen from the icecream, it still melts in your mouth with every bite. My in laws, also full, decided to combine their favorotes, a vanilla with sprinkles and a chocolate dip, and just looking at it, i thought how have I never seen any one do this before. Anyway, next time, I will make sure that I am not so full and will even try to take down more than one flavor at once! read more

Sometimes you hear of a popular place, go there & are underwhelmed. That was not tonight. My daughter and I took a 25 minute "stroll" from Ocean Place up to Strollo's. The place is a legitimate old school, walk up delight. I admitted to the server that we were newbies, needing guidance. She patiently described the choices. I went with a triple combo (vanilla soft serve with peanut butter and chocolate water ice. OMG... cold, smooth texture, not too sweet, flavor values are perfect. I truly truly enjoyed this. Strollo's makes soft serve ice cream, and also Italian Ices. Their Italian ice is not like your typical ice it's much creamier. The creaminess of their ice makes it taste so much better! They have all your standard soft serve flavors and also a flavor of the day. That's the flavor I usually go for. Today I had the pumpkin soft serve flavor, and it was delicious! My only complaint is I wish they had a couple more varieties in their soft serve selection besides just four. Another good flavor when they have it is Oreo. Their best Italian ice flavor is peanut butter! You can always check their Instagram page to find what flavor of the day they will be having. I recommend coming to Strollo's in Long Branch and try their flavor of the day soft serve or one of their Italian ices! read more

This was my first time here and although my sister loves this place I wasn't all that impressed. It was decent but nothing to be completely wowed about. Flavor selections are ok my daughter enjoyed the passion fruit and custard and my sisters staple is cherry and custard. The portion sizes are a tad small if u don't do the combo . They don't even go over the lip of the cup which is pretty weak considering what you are paying. I ordered a cherry dip just to give it a try and I do not recommend it . If anyone remembers those edible cherry wax lips that's what it taste like . I would possibly consider just the Italian ice if I come back . read more

The girl who helped us was really nice and quick. The prices are ok, the flavors aren't a lot, but I think they are the basics that a person would buy.. so I had a chocolate ice cream cup with hot fudge on it (DELICIOUS) and my boyfriend got a peanut butter ice cream cup with sprinkles on it. There was plenty of peanut butter flavor, but not too much where it was an issue. Oreos were a nice compliment. Root Beer - This tasted exactly like root beer and was unique being in ice cream form but could not have too much of it as I became tired of it quickly. Grandma's Strawberry Shortcake - This was homemade strawberry sweet cream with strawberry jam swirl and shortbread cookie pieces. This was alright. The crumb pieces were too large, and surprised there was not more of a strawberry taste. Mango Lassi - This was homemade Greek yogurt sweet cream with homemade mango jam swirl. I wished there was more mango. I liked the slight change with Greek yogurt being used and it was very apparent. The sugar and whatever else was used helped to offset the blandness of regular Greek yogurt.

Very tasty and creamy! My second choice for sure.

I stopped by the Long Branch location, located in a small plaza with plenty of parking. The interior is pretty small. No seating available - just a register to order, counter, pick-up area, and merchandise section. They only operate as a grab-and-go. I can see it being cramped during rush hours in the morning... luckily I came by on a weekday afternoon and was the only one there. Rook prides itself on having a small and simple menu. They only sell hot pour-over single origin coffee and cold brew. They picked a few things to perfect and do really well. So for espresso lovers, you're out of luck. BUT don't let that steer you away because their drinks are phenomenal. They use high quality, premium beans. The employee was extremely helpful with guiding me through the menu and giving me recommendations. I love that milks and sweeteners are available at no additional charge! They also have decaf and half caf options. I ordered a Vanilla Cold Brew (regular size $5.50) with milk and sugar. And let me tell you... it was love at first sip! It was probably the best cold brew I've ever had. Super smooth, rich, and creamy. The vanilla flavor wasn't overpowering and added just the right amount of sweetness. I definitely understand why so many people love their coffee. I wish there were more locations closer to North Jersey because I can see myself becoming a regular. If you can't visit a storefront, you can buy their cold brew concentrates or coffee beans online. Don't sleep on Rook!

We arrived at around 3:30 PM and there was barely a soul here, although there were customers puling off the highway every once in a while to make a purchase. Polar Bear is a strictly outdoor ice cream establishment, meaning they have a few benches to their side, but there is no indoor seating area for customers. The ice cream shop has pictures of ice cream and multiple menus plastered everywhere on their windows, so it's a bit overwhelming when you walk up to them, but they basically serve hard ice cream, soft serve, sundaes, shakes and Italian ices. If you're lost and not sure of what to order, feel free to ask them what their best selling flavors are (LIKE THE DEER IN HEADLIGHTS THAT WE WERE). They told us that their most popular ice creams were the hard Black Raspberry and Banana soft serve, so we ordered each on a small cone to themselves. Verdict??? Personally, I liked the Banana soft serve more. It DEFINITELY was banana, based on the taste, and it was very refreshing. Honestly, I'm not a huge banana ice cream fan, but this was really good. As for the Black Raspberry, it was solid, but I felt that it needed to be jussssst a tad sweeter because I didn't think I could taste it all that well. I will say that the serving sizes of the ice creams were huuuuuge, so it was nice to feel like we got our money's worth on the small cones. Also, if you've got kids with you (like us), you can ask for a free cone to split some of the ice cream onto multiple cones, which we do alll of the time everywhere. Definitely a nice little ice cream shop and I love that it's located right off the highway on State Route 36, so if you're traveling in the area, you don't have to go far because all you have to do is literally pull over and park.
