It was very fortunate that we got a change to talk with attorney Robin Ratner, who gave us the most helpful advice for our less fortunate situation. It was our last resort to call a law firm to deal with frustrating dispute with our contractor, but this phone call turned out to be a lifesaver. Robin provided the best alternatives, no one could ever give, based on her 25 years of professional experiences and special knowledge in this area. Because we were unfamiliar with construction norms and relevant laws, we were not certain whether our contractor's claims and requests during the dispute was reasonable. She cleared all our doubts and fears from such uncertainty and gave us confidence to resolve this issue successfully. She first took long time to listen to what had happened to us and provided professional evaluation on whether our contractor's behavior or request is aligned with standard procedure. She also gave detailed advice on how to respond to unreasonable requests. She offered detailed guidelines to execute the alternatives in a way that is most effective and cost-efficient. Unfortunately I did not have a good experience with Structure Law Group. I have worked with them for about a year on several different issues. Cumulatively, I have paid them nearly $50K in legal fees. The first was a claim from a former employee. I was assured that things would go one way, costing around $20K, until the day of mediation when I ended up paying nearly $100K for a claim that I could prove was false. Through this, I paid about $20K to Structure Law Group in legal fees. Obviously they can't be held responsible for the outcome of every case, but it was very upsetting to be told one thing for months and have a drastically different outcome. I also worked with them to do a basic stock swap for one of my companies. The stock swap took around eight months to complete. I was also billed for more than double what I was quoted by Chuck, the person who I originally spoke to. Admittedly, they did offer to split the difference, which was something, but it was very disquieting to begin something that should've taken a month or two and cost $2K, see the attorney disappear and your file slip through the cracks, and wait eight months and get a bill for $5K. There was a purchase contract review that I was billed for $10,500 even though I told them I just wanted a cursory review, not a total rewrite. This also was delayed for a week or two even though I just wanted a couple quick changes. The final issue that I worked with them on was a simple corporate resolution that I was told should only take about 1-2 hours to do. I had the introductory phone call on this issue in mid October. A month later, I emailed them to tell them to send me any work product and close out the file so I could go elsewhere. Nothing had been completed. Admittedly he did say that I wouldn't be charged for the introductory phone call, which was about an hour. But I would've rather been charged and had the resolution done when I asked. I will say that the people I dealt with were generally friendly and helpful while I was talking to them. But to be honest, I think I would have preferred an unfriendly firm that got results. They seem like nice people, but as a business owner, I did not feel like they had their eye on the ball for me. read more

Being in business for the past 35 plus years I've had my share of legal battles. Most of the attorneys I've had dealings with aptly fall into the two star or lower ratings. My last legal battle consumed 6 years of my life on three fronts: ADA litigation, failed investment and finally a really rough one I cannot describe due to non-disclosures. I contacted Structure Law Group on behalf of a friend who was sued by a non-performing contractor, the dispute amounting to some $26,000. The original lawyer representing my friend had left the firm after burning some unproductive time on the case. This review covers only what happened after that. Mark Figuieredo took my call and we discussed the case. I was at that point shopping for another attorney. I was looking for the following qualities--someone who: -Answers the phone or email promptly -Speaks in plain English with the intention to communicate rather than impress -Is organized, courteous, and attentive -Realizes that the client needs to purchase results, not just hours. -Sets expectations -Plans a strategy in concert with the client -Keeps the client informed Mr. Figueiredo delivered on all of the above.
