Brought my work truck there to have a tire plugged/ new tire put on because I didn't know where the leak was. Turns out I needed a new tire and luckily they had it in stock. The front desk guy was super nice and helpful but the three stars come from the time it took for just a new tire to simply be put on my truck. I was there for 5 hours! And it wasn't just me, there were multiple other customers there, voicing their opinion about how they've been there all day to just get an oil change or new tires. I would look into the garage every now and see the mechanics just standing around chatting with each other or on their phones. The only guy that seemed to working or hurrying around was the guy working at the desk. The prices were similar to other places but the timeliness of the service is just poor. read more

Brought car in for an oil change and to check brakes. They told me I needed a complete brake job about $800 and said there was oil leaking from top back of engine. I took it to AAA to verify. AAA said my brakes were fine. There was a drop of oil on top. They wiped it off and verified that there was no oil leak. For the oil leak, they recommended I take the car to another place and gave me a paper showing that they recommended me. read more

My daughter brought her car in to get a tire plugged. They said the hole was too close to the outside of the tire and that she would need a new tire. She got the new tire, but when they brought her car out, they said the tire sensor needed a new battery. This car is not even five years old and he tried to say that was old and the batteries within that time. My told them it was a little coincidental that the tire sensor is no longer working on the tire that they worked on. The guy was a little nasty with her, trying to show her on his machine that it was the battery. I was on the phone with her while she was talking with him.. also before they even took the tire off, they called her back where they were working on the car to find the locks for the wheel. She told him where it was. They didn't look hard enough and even asked her. Can your dad or your boyfriend her husband come and look for it. She came home to Maryland and we took the car to Nissan. They told us that the sensor was hanging on by a thread and they definitely. Broke it when replacing the tire. They tried to get more money out of my daughter for something they broke. I do not recommend this place, especially for a young woman to go in and get something fixed alone.. read more

"HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE "had two tires and a wheel alignment done on my Chevy Silverado.Picked up my truck and paid the bill. I immediately took the truck for a ride down the interstate realize my steering wheel was off,neeess to say tire pressures were all different stops and adjusted all tire pressures and drove the vehicle with no correction to my steering wheel,brought the vehicle back and informed the service manager that the wheel was off and truck was drifting slightly to the left. Service manager asked for the keys to bring the truck in but then said oh we need to give you a refund. We were unable to do the alignment. Your truck did not fit in our machine. I have used the STS on Ethel Road to service our 2003 Buick Century due to several failures on several separate occasions. One time was a complete exhaust system replacement (exhaust had fallen off the car) . On another occasion, rusted brake lines caused the car to lack brakes and needed to have it towed there. On both occasions, the work was done correctly the first time. Also bought tires there (Firestone Precision Touring) on another occasion. My conclusion? Not the cheapest, but they do decent work and are reputable. Also seem to be honest (no up-sell) and seem to get the job right the first time. So far, so good. Would use them again. PS -- I have also used the STS on Rt 22 in Union, on and off for many years. Also good experiences there. read more

My car had burned through oil pretty quickly since my dad changed it about a month before, but we just assumed he punched a hole in the filter when he put it in. I decided to go to STS to get the $19.95 oil change they advertised on the sign outside. The guy at the counter was nice but he took a very long time putting in my information since I was a new customer. I had to repeat myself many times. I waited there while they changed my oil, they had a TV and magazines, and offered free WiFi. When I went to pay, a different guy took my payment. He said it came out to about $30. When I pointed out that the sign said $19.95, he said that they charged extra because they changed my fluids and checked the tires or something. I said I didn't ask for that. He apologized and immediately changed the price back to the advertised $19.95 plus tax. Probably a tactic they pull on everyone, but the website says they won't charge you for anything you didn't ask for, so verify the price and what you're actually paying for before you hand over any money. After I paid, they guy said there were some oil stains under my car but he didn't elaborate to say anything was wrong with my car or any steps I should take. I figured this was due to what I had previously suspected was an improperly installed oil filter leaking. Boy was I wrong. About two weeks after the oil change, my oil light went on. Turns out I had a massive oil leak and oil puddling in the hood, and I had to have my car towed to my mechanic. It's been three weeks and I still don't have my car. Really would have appreciated a warning from the STS guys, my mechanic says it should have been noticeable to anyone with any knowledge about cars. I'm surprised STS wouldn't want to tell me about it to get more money out of me. Will not be returning. read more

I got a flat on my way to work this morning and brought my car into STS in hopes of getting it patched. They got to my car quickly and determined that the tire needed to be replaced. They showed me the piece of metal in the tire and showed me a visual aid that explained why a hole in that location couldn't be patched. I was very happy that they took the time to explain their reasoning to me because I am usually skeptical of auto repair replaces when they tell me I need to spend more money than I had intended. They explained to me that I could have them order the exact same tire and wait a day or they could replace it with a similar tire right then. They explained that the only possible negative of using a different but similar tire would be that there may be a slightly increased chance of hydroplaning because the treads may handle water differently. Because I commute a long distance and often drive in the rain, I opted to get the same tire but I needed it today, so I made some calls and found another place that had it in stock. I was VERY impressed that the guys at STS didn't pressure me to get the work done there. They were extremely honest about my options and didn't react negatively when I opted to get the tire somewhere else. They even put the spare on for me and didn't charge me a dime! I highly recommend this place and will come back if I ever need more work. read more

Liars..will tell a woman anything to sell tires!!! I went there for a quick fix to get a tire plugged and was willing to pay the overpriced $20 I know they charge for doing so just so I could get to work this particular morning. One young guy Abdul was working the counter while the other young guy was in the back. After Abdul gives him my paperwork and they converse for a few minutes over my tire, Abdul comes back to the counter. A few minutes later the guy in the back comes out and says that I have a hole in my tube that's inside the tire and it cannot be plugged ( he had a smirk on his face). I have 22" tires on my truck and I know better. There aren't any tubes in my tires. I don't drive a bike. I told him I would be right back. Brought my rear wheel drive car in for just two new tires that had blown out. All over the building it says to put brand new tires in the rear of the car never in the front. Well guess where my brand new tires were put. Then on top of that the kid helping me convinced me to do my alignment right then and there rather than come back in a week when I was scheduled for. HUGE MISTAKE I sat around for four hours waiting on the alignment to get done. All the while I have to hear some older gentlemen behind the counter cursing and screaming about the car taking so long and how it never should of been done and we need to put the tires on and get rid of the car. read more

Customer service was good, A simple tire changed took almost 3 hours, and The tire that they put on did not look of new quality. Spent $133 after all was said and done for one tire! The customer service to me is what saved this rating from dipping below 2. Staff was friendly. read more

the personnel were easy to talk to. however, the problem was with the work. . i took my car to have a set of wheels interchanged with the ones that are currently on it. it had winter tires on them. a couple days later, i noticed that the tires were directional and all four were facing the wrong direction. they were willing to rotate them correctly. honest mistake or not, i'm very alarmed that this happened because i was going to use the car in the snow and if i had not checked, the car might not have handled the right way. i can't believe a dedicated tire center missed this detail. read more

This was 100% the worst experience I've had with a tire center. The men at the front desk were incredibly nice, i came in for the brake special. They said they would check out my car and get back to me. They came back with a slew of problems, one being that my back brakes weren't good. I told them i didn't want anything else fixed because the labor was too high, just the brakes. The front desk man went to the mechanic to relay the message and the mechanic said that i didn't have a problem with the brakes even though he JUST told me they were a problem. He then said i needed to get something else done that was not in the original list of problems and walked away while i was asking him a question. He came back and slammed my keys on the desk and left. I've never experienced such a nasty attitude coupled with ridiculous labor costs. STS will never get my business and they should get rid of that mechanic. If i could give 0 stars i would. read more

Buyer BEWARE - negligence when it comes to best practices. I had my car serviced at STS Tire to replace a flat front tire I received as a result of one of NJ's infamous ditch-sized potholes. The service appointment was typical and I was satisfied with the quick turnaround. My experience would go terribly wrong hours later. I decided to inspect the car for additional damage as a result of the pot hole. Removing the lug nuts required standing on tire iron with my entire body weight, and when it came to the locking lug nut that uses a special key, it wouldn't budget at all - to the point of deforming the locking key. I decided to let the professionals handle it and made an appointment at my normal shop (dealership) to have it inspected and aligned. Much to my dismay was the call from the dealership telling me the lug nuts had been extremely over torqued - and that my locking lug nut was seized and would need to be drilled off and replaced. I filed a complaint with management at the STS Tire location for the damage and submitted invoices/paperwork. I also inquired as to what the torque-spec they used to tighten the wheels - which they could not provide other than to say "we use air wrenches with torque-limiters". Despite a verbal agreement for reimbursement, this would begin a string of run-around follow up calls which after months, went nowhere. Ultimately, the reimbursement offer changed to "we'll give you a small gift credit". Sorry, no dice, and it's unfortunate they decided they would rather lose a customer than make things right. Lesson learned the hard way. For ANYONE seeking service of this or any tire/repair shop - ASK them whether or not they use torque wrenches. DO NOT let them use air tools on your vehicle's wheels. ASK them to list the torque-spec in the service description and match it to your owners manual. Over-torqued wheels can damage your vehicle and in extreme cases shear off entirely. Be SAFE! read more

What kind of service center does not top off fluids when you bring your car in for oil change/routine maintenance? Even the freakin quickie places check everything. Glad I had AAA so it didn't cost me a fortune for washer fluid on the Garden State Parkway. I called STS and asked if they check fluid levels as a normal procedure. 'NO, not unless requested' was the response. In addition when I had my car in for service I asked them to check the one tire that kept going low. They didn't. I had to ask a second time and then they checked it and found a nail. Come on, you can't even follow a customer's request. I won't be back to the STS on Ethel Road. read more

I'd give it seven or eight stars if I could. I had never been there before, but today when I was driving near there my tire pressue indicator light went on. Like any normal human being would do, I panicked. I pulled over and having no tire gauge looked at all four tires. None of them looked flat. I knew STS was nearby so I immediately drove over there. They took me right away, checked all four tires,found that the pressure was a little low in all four of them (very well could have to do with the recently sudden cold weather in the morning), filled them all with air and checked for leaks. The light went off, and guess what. THEY DIDN'T CHARGE ME ANYTHING. These guys are actually honest!! I would not hesitate for a second to take my car there again. read more

The absolute worst auto care shop. Dost waste your time and money. They are dishonest about their prices. I needed an oil change yesterday and I call them and ask how much an oil change would be for my 09 Nissan Altima Coupe. I specifically said my car make and model because the prices can be different. The guy was nice on the phone and he told me $29.99 and that I can cone in right away. I went in and they did all the paperwork and i left the car there. When i went to pick it up they told me the oil change was $65. I was completely shocked and confused. He was saying it was because of the oil they used or what not. When I told them I spoke to someone about pricing before setting an appointment, the guy had the audacity to say he didn't Speak with anyone prior. This is the exact same thing that happened to me here before. It happened a while ago so I thought I would give them a second chance. But IT WAS THE WORST DECISION. They reel you in on the phone when making an appointment giving you FAKE LOW PRICES and when they get the job done, they charge an outrageous amount of money without telling you beforehand. I have never heard of a $65 oil change for a 2009 Nissan Altima. Don't go to this place even if its the last place on earth thats open. read more

I DROVE my 94 ford ranger to have the engine cooling system looked at. I took it to them several weeks ago for the same thing. Was told it was just low on coolant all was ok. Now I get an estimate that is nearly what the car is worth. Chose not to proceed and went to pick it up and there were parts on my console. Now it is not drive-able. Now parts are broken. I felt that since I did not let them proceed they threw the parts inside and parked it in the parking lot. read more
