Got there, wrong tires, not in inventory and they wanted to charge me close to 70% MORE when they finally came in. I walked out. Be warned. This is bait and switch and totally unacceptable. The service is very bad, I don't recommend it to anyone. The reason is that 2 days ago, a screw was stuck in the tire of my car and I was near this shop, and I went there and bought a new tire and had it installed, but I also had the balance done, but it could not last even 2 days, the steering wheel of the car was sliding to the side where the new tire was changed, the balance was very bad. It doesn't matter in the money I gave, it made me very sad that the service provided was not complete, the quality is very bad about the tire, I do not recommend it at all!!!! read more

My wife and I just moved to Union, NJ recently. That move has necessitated the disrupting of long-term relationships with people, organizations and businesses in which, over the years, we placed our trust. So a few days ago, we needed to find a garage that could analyze and tell us about some strange and disturbing sounds our car was making. I spoke to Walt and Abdul who were both very confident representing the professionalism of the STS Tire & Auto Center on Route 22 in Union, NJ. I left the car with them and they told me they would get back to me once they determined a course of action. Walt called about an hour later and gave me a rundown of what they discovered and what they were recommending as a fix. He told me the problems, the parts that would fix the problems and the price of each solution. I asked him to have another look at the suggestions, because the repair total was more than I wanted to spend that day. We reached an agreement on the items that were urgently needed versus the items that were "a good idea" to switch out; and I gave the go-ahead for the repair. An hour later, Abdul called me and suggested that I take advantage of a sale on a part that we had originally decided to "hold off" until next time. His suggestion made sense and I said OK. The car was ready by the end of the day, at a price that I was happy about. The worst experience I've had I A LONG TIME. Came in as the second customer of the morning and was told that it would be about an hour, as there was only one garage employee working on cars, but mine would go up as soon as the first was finished. No big deal, I walked myself to Walmart and suffered there for the hour. I headed back to STS hatter an hour and ten minutes only to find my car EXACTLY where I had left it, with two more cars now on lifts in the garage. After I made a comment, my car was driven in and the work began. I was told that I needed several other jobs done, all of which I refused at this time because I actually have a day and it's been two hours. When the fire guy went back into the garage, HE LEFT MY CAR ON THE LIFT AND STEPPED ASIDE TO EAT HIS BREAKFAST. I watched him shove food into his mouth while I continued waiting for my vehicle, and once he finished, he ambled back to working. I've now been standing outside for a solid nine minutes, as he can't seem to figure out how to get my spare back under the car. Honestly, you're better off buying your own tire and putting it on. This place is costly, a time sapper, and full of unprofessional workers. Head further down to Goodyear in Clark. I would have gone to either, but was nervous driving in my spare. read more

Be very careful going here. My ex-husband was changing my brakes and was examining my muffler because it was noisy. He found where it was damaged. He said I didn't need the whole system changed as all looked good except the one section near the end. I went to this STS to have my muffler fixed. After they examined it I was told the cost would be $1700 because the pipe was one whole piece and I would need sensors changed too. I did not have it fixed there. Instead I went to a local gas station my mother uses and the mechanic had my car on a lift and showed me my muffler pipe had 3 separate sections. He changed the damaged part. Total cost?? $520! Dont trust this STS! They are liars!! read more

I've gone to either the Roselle or Union STS locations for tire repair and replacement for years. The work sometimes takes longer than promised, but you can generally tell that it will by the number of lifts in use. Hardly unique to STS, buying tires can be a bit tricky. Not all tire shops stock or favorably price a particular manufacturer, size and design equally. This sometimes calls for a bit of shopping around. More times than not, but particularly when the other option is Goodyear, the job is done by STS. read more

Had a check engine light. Came here and than ran a diagnostic. 150 for diagnostic that didn't yield the cause of problem they wanted. They proposed some work and had an estimate for 1500.00. Additionally they could not say for sure that after the work the problem would be fixed. I left just out the 150. Went to my autodealer. They ran same diagnostic. Found the issue and my bill was 98.00. Hence...the one star. read more

I had 4 tires installed, they tried to up sell me on new tpms sensors that they claimed were seized onto the wheel which I wasn't going for, then when I got my car back they stole my metal tire valve caps and broke on of my center caps on my rim. Not a good look, don't go here. read more

Brought my car in for two new tires and found that the serpentine belt needed to be replaced as well. All good. The car stayed for four days, and when I picked up the car the belt had not been replaced, although nearly $2500 was paid for two new tires, a serpentine belt, and brakes. After I brought it back in to have the serpentine belt replaced as had originally been planned, the air conditioning doesn't work. Would not bring my car back. Good for a quick oil change (if you know how to say no to other non-needed services salesman tend to shove down your throat) but not much more. Would not recommend. read more

Went in to repair a flat, and ended up getting two new tires. I had to wait almost 4 hours for the work to get done, and when my car was returned to me, the interior lock pin on the driver's side door was broken. No apologies, offers to fix, or compensation were offered. I was told a manager would call me back. It took me 4 days of follow up through calls and emails (no one ever called me) to be dismissively told they would need to 'investigate' because they no longer thought they could have been responsible for the damage. Terrible customer service, and no manager would even speak to me! Used to be a great place to go, but this location has gone downhill since it came under new ownership. Stay away. There are plenty of other places to go in the area. read more

My rear tires looked like they needed to be replaced so I brought it inro there to get all the tires replaced(why by just two,right?) Anyway had all four tires replaced, a wheel alignment and tires balanced. Left there thinking all was good until I went on to the parkway driving 65 mph. The whole car was shaking. Took it back the next day and they said that my rim was bent and I needed new front brakes. I find that funny because my rim was fine before I even ever brought the car in. Well since I have a mechanic (doesn't do tires or I would t be in this mess)I took the car to him and he said no I didn't need brakes, so I guess they make a commission when they sell you stuff you don't need. With all that being said I had to take 2 half days from work to keep bringing the car there and it still isn't fixed. To make matters worse the girl at the front has no manners at all and should t be working with people. She was rude to me and acted like I did something wrong. She has a piss poor attitude. Good experience overall. I was greeted nicely upon arrival. The representative asked me questions, looked at my car, and even gave me a sense of the prices. I left my car at the shop for the mechanic to examine further. I received a phone call about an hour later with a long list of items/services that could be done to my car. I was initially shocked to hear the long list and the total price. At my request, the representative worked with me to take certain things off the list that could wait (or weren't that necessary) to get the price down. I asked a lot of questions and the representative was kind enough to simplify everything for me. Once we came to an agreement, they did the work on my car and I received a phone call about 2 hours later to come pick up my car. The manager reviewed the entire receipt with me and also sent me an electronic copy of my receipt. read more

I got to be honest . I was here yesterday and I had excellent service at this business. I dealt with a very nice employee / Manager named Spencer . He and his Staff took excellent care of my vehicle. From the moment I arrived they got my vehicle in and started working on it . They discovered a few things that I was not aware of and could have caused serious issues with my vehicle. I have to say I did check on prices while waiting ,, and they were very fairly priced . There tech & Spencer showed me everything and walked me step by step on everything they were doing and I was able to make decisions based on what they showed me and I saw , and they were patient with my response. I didn't feel pushed or pressure to go with any work I wasn't ready or financially prepared to do just yet . Spencer was very informative and knowledgeable and backed up everything to show me the issue on the vehicle. Not many places are willing to go the extra mile like that . I live 2 hours away from this place . I'll gladly come back to this place for maintenance and further repairs if needed as my vehicle ages . I highly recommend this place . read more

So had a nail and had to get a tire changed. Went to the store in Millburn but did not have my size until afternoon and they referred me to this store. Even called to say I was on the way.....thanks. Walked in and they did the tire and oil change. Time about an hour but did get some computer work done. But just realized they never put a cap on my valve stem. The cap is a secondary means of sealing the tire.... Is this not their business???? Additionally the inside smelled like oil.....come on guys a little better please. Back to basics read more

Absolutely horrific customer service! I called STS when I was on my way there (about 5 mins out). I needed my back read tire replaced. I was told to come in and I will be in and out in 30 mins. I checked in at 12:46pm. The guy at the front desk was rude but I figured, he wasn't working on the car so it didn't matter. I told him I would like the tire replaced. 2 hours later, I am still waiting. I walked up to the counter and spoke with the rude guy sitting there. I asked when my car would be finished and if he could check on the status. As he was walking into the shop area to avoid me "I don't know what to tell you, they have it in there" that's the response I got! Appalling! Another guy came out, which I could only assume is the manager, so I asked him about the status of my car. He checked on it and said it was done and also confirmed that it was a new tire. I told him I just saw him struggling with plugging my tire and he went to the back to check. Sure enough...they plugged it. So now I have to wait for another 20 mins for them to put a new tire on. While the manager was apologetic, it still does not excuse the debacle that went on in there. The guys are more interested in goofing off and smoking cigarettes in shop area. I will never be back! Last Thursday, I was leaving my house to go to Philly and noticed that the low tire pressure light had come on in my car. I nervously drove to STS at the request of my father. Upon entering I was greeted by Eddie Anglin, the manager of this STS. I think the best part of my entire experience was that Eddie took the time to actually explain what the tire pressure meant and how it could make my car run. He was nice enough to explain the tire protection plan/warranty to me. I was provided excellent affordable service and would undoubtably come back again. read more

I came into STS after Pep Boys told me that they don't have my tire in stock and won't ever be getting them in. I walked into the shop and was greeted by a very nice gentlemen who was willing to listen to me and help me. He explained everything to me, about the tire and the protection plan. Now, I had a rim that I needed them to mount and he made sure that everything was taken care of including the sensor that I had on the broken rim. They were professional but very friendly at the same time and made me feel extremely comfortable. It took about an hour to change the tire and get the rim mounted and the price wasn't terrible either. I will absolutely be coming back to this location again for all of my tire and car needs. Beware of their scam. I took my car to STS Tire & Auto yesterday to get three tires I had mounted because they were open on Sunday. When my car was returned, the "check engine" lite was on. This was not the case when I brought the car in. Something that happened inside the STS shop set off my "check engine" light. The manager said that the technician documented that the "check engine" light was on when I brought in the car. This was not accurate. Not having any recourse other than to be charged additional diagnostic expenses, I started to leave. When I entered my car the second time, I noticed that the clock incorrectly read 12:22. Obviously 22 minutes ago, when the car was inside the STS shop, something happened to the car to manipulate the computer "check engine" light and reset the clock to 12:00. When I brought this to the manager's attention he had no explanation why the clock and computer would have been reset during a routine tire installation. He just stated that it could not have been something the technician did. I really think I was getting scammed to get them to do a diagnostic and repair that wasn't needed. read more

Rude, obnoxious and lacking in general automotive knowledge. Two counter representatives were so rude they drove myself and two other potential customers out the door. There were two oil changes in front of me, he quoted a three hour wait and acted as if I were lucky he would condescend to speak with me. I worked my way through college in automotive shops and unless we took a nap during the oil change it was 30 minutes...the owner should look long and hard at his staff, I can't imagine how much they costing him. read more

Do not go there. Went there to fix a flat, ended up buying a new tire. After they finished I drove the car for 5 minutes and the "low tire pressure" went off. I called them to let them know the problem and was told to "drive for 20 minutes" so the sensor would reset itself. The answer should have been "come in and let us check" because the tire went flat in about 15 minutes. When I called them, they told me to go to the nearest STS which was in jersey city. There they told me that the valve hadn't been properly installed and that's why the air was coming out. I called back and spoke to "Ellis" and he told me that it was a common mistake and that it happens often! Not once did he apologize, even after I told him how dangerous this could have been and how I was told to basically ignore it at first. It doesn't hurt your business to apologize when you make a mistake. They need to do better Quality Control!!! Before sending people out on the road again. Never going there again!!! read more

I came in with a problem with my starter. The employees were nice and helpful. I usually deal with Ellis or Bobby. Both really nice guys. Always lays it out how it's supposed to be laid out. Up front with cost and everything. What really left a bad taste in my mouth, however, is the procedure. Now first off I have to state, I know it's not the employees fault by any means, this is all company fault. What I mean by that is, I don't believe they have the proper equipment to do their job. And if they do, then I'm very disappointed. I paid $127 for them to tell me there is a problem with a connection to the starter, not the starter itself. And that they weren't able to fix it, because they cannot tell where the connection lies, and that they aren't good with electrical. If they had connected the truck to the proper device, it would have shown that the problem was not that mysterious. I come to find out the problem wasn't even the wire (like they suspected) it was in a fuse. The problem was located and specified with a piece of equipment that was used at a auto shop elsewhere. The whole job cost me $50 parts and labor included at this other location, and was done within 3 hours of my vehicles arrival. I think that the company STS needs to step up their equipment to be more up-to-date or really instruct their employees on how to use their equipment. The fuse switch was simple, and did not take a lot of man hours, or brain power. Again, the problem does not lie within the people doing their job over at this location, all in all, 5 starts for the guys on the front lines there. I just hope, for their sake, STS corrects the issue so that they can be considered a reliable auto shop resource... read more

HORRIBLE PLACE. THEY DON'T EVEN DESERVE 1 STAR. This is NOT a fake review either. Against my better judgment, I decided have my tires replaced at this STS. BIG MISTAKE. After sitting there for almost 3 hours, when they replaced the tires, my first notice is that they scratched all 4 rims. They did not wear gloves when they were in my truck and got grease all over the steering wheel and dashboard. Then when I drove my truck, I noticed right away that the alignment was not done well at all as my truck was all over the place. Then I brought it back to them for a second time and after sitting for another few hours, they did the alignment so then the next day, I noticed that the left rear tire was very low on air so I put some air and proceeded to go back for a 3rd time and after waiting for another few hours, they advised that they needed to replace the valve. After I leave and a few days later, the same left rear tire was low on air again, almost flat so I put some air and went back for a fourth time. This time, rude manager Abdul advised that he will just replace that time. Mind you, he just replaced the tire and did not check any of the internal components so sure enough, a few weeks later, the same tire was almost flat again so went back for a 5th time and was very irate this time. I demanded to speak to corporate to a high level manager of which I received a call from Abdul's manager. He advised that the tech mush have cracked the stem on the inside and needed to be replaced. Abdul wanted to charge me for what they broke as there was nothing wrong with the inside of all my 4 wheels until they scratched my expensive rims and damaged the inside. The manager Tony G assured me that they will absorb the coast of this and also assured me that he would get a few guys to get started on my truck right away so I can be on my way and that if I needed anything, I can feel free to call him. After sitting there for a very long time after I spoke w/ Tony G, I noticed that no one is working on my Truck so I asked Abdul, what's the situation. He lied and told me that they are still waiting for the part. Then a min later he says that the part just arrived which is BS because I was looking right at my truck and NO ONE CAME IN TO DELIVER ANY PARTS SO ABDULE WAS MAKING ME WAIT ON PURPOSE. In summary, HORRIBLE PLACE AND ABDULE, THE MANAGER CURSING WHERE ALL OF US CUSTOMERS CAN HEAR HIM. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL AND EVEN THE TOP MANAGER, TONY G, WOULD NOT EVEN RETURN MY CALL. Just Excellent! I priced and ordered the tires on the STS Tire & Auto website and scheduled a time and date for installation at a convenient STS AutoCenter (Union, NJ) . STS of Union confirmed my tires had arrived and even offered to install them prior to the scheduled delivery date. I arrived at the scheduled time and my tires were installed in about 35 minutes, and I was billed exactly as previously indicated on the website for the exact tires I wanted. Ill keep it short because i could type a book on this place. Im a 16 year ASE master certified mechanic. Im in charge of fixing a fleet of 22 diesel trucks by myself. I know what im talking about. I did a bunch of work to my own vehicle and needed a SIMPLE 4 wheel toe only alignment. My shop does not have a alignment machine since were all trucks so i decided to just go here and have them do it as the place we use if much further away. Took them 5 hours, alignment was terrible, wheel off 1/4 turn, service writers were rude and very unfriendly, mechanics where walking around in shop looking like they had no idea what was going on. Only reason im not going back is its not worth my time to argue over the $60 i paid them and try to explain everything they did wrong to them, its just not worth it. I can tell they'll just give me the you are wrong attitude and they dont care anyways. Trust me, Just stay away. read more

I got my oil changed here for the first time in June 2015. They did all the usual stuff....oil, fluid levels, and tire pressure. I wish I would have checked the caps to my tire valves before I left because flash forward to today, I'm out several hundred dollars because the wrong caps were put on my tires, thus becoming impossible to take off without destroying (and replacing the sensors). Now I admit that I have absolutely no proof that this happened here, but for the past year and a half (since purchasing the car) I have only gotten my oil changed at a small place in Queens. I have never put air in my tires or ever touched my caps. I have never had this issue. All I know is that after servicing my car with STS in June, I then got my next oil change three months later in Queens, and the mechanic told me that he was unable to remove one of the caps. I didn't think much of it at the time, but I really wish I did. Since then, three of the four caps WRONGLY put on my tires have gotten stuck to stems. I've learned a hard lesson. No matter what you get done here, just make sure to check your tire caps before you leave to make sure they're actually yours. I guess that goes for anywhere, really. Good luck. read more
