The quality of service was good too; they were friendly and attentive, which is always appreciated. The spot was super nice too; the lighting and mood were really nice. My friend had been to the Aviary before and spoke highly of it, and after scanning the menu, I also thought it was a great selection. It was around 8:15 pm when we arrived so we luckily just barely made it before the kitchen closed and we were able to be sat outside. We started with drinks - a Maracuja (which translates to passion fruit in English) and Lychee Martini - both were excellent! They were refreshing, not overly sweet, tasted just like the fruit advertised, and didn't have a ton of ice. All the appetizers made my mouth water just by reading them on the menu, but we decided on the garlic rosemary wings to keep it classic. The menu said they'd be jumbo wings, but they looked like normal size to me which I was actually pleased about since jumbo wings scare me (they're usually raw closer to the bone). They were very crispy on the outside which almost dried them out, but the garlic and rosemary infused butter did bring them back to life a little. I could taste both the garlic and rosemary in the butter and the parmesan cheese shavings were a great touch. For entrees, I ordered a CT style lobster roll and my friend had the swordfish (with fingerling potatoes and asparagus). On Wednesdays, a lobster roll is $20 which is a really good price especially since it also comes with homemade chips. They give you an option between CT style (warm and lobster tossed with butter) and New England style (cold and tossed with mayo and lemon), so I learned something new that day. The bun was buttered and toasted, and it was stuffed with a good amount of fresh lobster meat, and mixed with a light amount of butter. The chips were crunchy, seasoned, fresh, and tasted like real potatoes but just a millimeter or two thicker. The swordfish was flavorful, moist, and did not taste fishy at all. The fingerling potatoes were soft and flavorful as well. They also brought us out an order of fries and they were quite good, maybe missing some salt but I liked that there was a variety going on such as crispy, oily, soft, long, short, edges etc. Our server was great throughout the night; brought us everything we needed without checking in too often. Even though they were closed, the staff did not make us feel like we had to rush out; they were rather patient and we left around 9:45 pm. Both the inside and outside of the restaurant are very nice. The inside gives classy, and the outside gives great space for laughter and good vibes. They even have a section with lawn chairs over turf with string lights. The entrance/exit path is also very nice, with hydrangeas, roses, and other flowers on either side, a white arch, and string lights too. Overall very pleased with the ambiance, quality of food, prices, and service.

We fell in love with her, the house, everything including the murder-by-mail story behind the house from the 1800s. About 2 weeks before the party we called Kaitlyn and told her it was going to turn into our surprise wedding! She continued to be so helpful and excited, giving recommendations for all kinds of vendors we'd need. The day of the party she was professional and hands-on, making sure everything got done on a quick timeline. She calmed nerves and had great suggestions on where things should go to make sure everything flowed just right. Our rental price included some tables and linens she had available, and some glassware too. It was so perfect from the start and we couldn't be happier!!

Beautiful historic building who's tour guides added in a true life murder mystery of the lady of the houses death. This really added to the event as it was so my scene and absolutely fun. I would def host an event here because unlike the Newport mansions I could touch things and see things in the midst of being historically preserved since they're still restoring the house. We kicked things off with a very dirty vodka martini with blue cheese stuffed olives, paired with their warm, freshly baked cinnamon bread that disappeared almost as quickly as it hit the table. For appetizers, we ordered a bowl of rich, creamy New England clam chowder & the seafood on ice platter featuring perfectly chilled shrimp & sweet jumbo lump crab. Then came the pièce de résistance: three perfectly steamed chicken lobsters. Because let's be honest...one is never enough & two is too many! They were steamed to perfection, sweet, tender & everything you hope for during lobster season. To top off the evening, the staff surprised hubby with a decadent slice of chocolate cake layered with rich chocolate ganache & topped with fresh whipped cream for his birthday. It was such a thoughtful touch & made a wonderful evening even more special! The service throughout the night was warm & attentive. Add in fantastic live entertainment & the beautiful riverside views outside the restaurant, you have the recipe for a memorable dining experience. We will definitely be back for another visit. If you are looking for outstanding seafood, exceptional hospitality & a classic New England dining experience, The Old Grist Mill Tavern is absolutely worth the trip. Highly recommend. This is the first time in years we've been kicked out of one. We drove there from Boston today for the first time, and heard great things about the place and the farmers' market. As we entered the gate, a banner with a picture of dogs was displayed. We drove on the grass and parked at the rear of the farmers' market. We unloaded our dogs. As we walked through the rear corner of the market, the first vendor sold dog treats and toys. We were browsing around, I was minding the dogs while my wife was looking at vegetables. The owner came over and was very rude and condescending, telling me they do not allow dogs, and proceeded to insist that I was a moron for not seeing a sign that said no dogs allowed. However, all I could see was the rear of the sign, and we had not entered the market that way. We promptly left as asked, again, at their place, their rules. I don't have an issue with that; my problem was with the delivery of the message. My wife and I could have sworn that when we looked at the website months ago, we saw that they welcome dogs, but after revisiting the FAQ page, it is clear that they do not. Our apologies for making the mistake.
