We kicked things off with a very dirty vodka martini with blue cheese stuffed olives, paired with their warm, freshly baked cinnamon bread that disappeared almost as quickly as it hit the table. For appetizers, we ordered a bowl of rich, creamy New England clam chowder & the seafood on ice platter featuring perfectly chilled shrimp & sweet jumbo lump crab. Then came the pièce de résistance: three perfectly steamed chicken lobsters. Because let's be honest...one is never enough & two is too many! They were steamed to perfection, sweet, tender & everything you hope for during lobster season. To top off the evening, the staff surprised hubby with a decadent slice of chocolate cake layered with rich chocolate ganache & topped with fresh whipped cream for his birthday. We were a party of 13 for dinner to take advantage of their lobster specials I made reservations and requested separate checks and was told they would be happy to do that. We were seated promptly even though our entire party had not arrived yet Our server Jess was incredible! She explained how she would do the separate checks and took care of the whole table by herself. She was pleasant and checked in with us often. It's been more than 40 years since I've been here. This is a well-known, established restaurant in the area. It's been around for years. However, I was deeply disappointed with a meal. My medium prime rib was more like well done in my wife's medium rare rib was... colorless. I'd give it one star, but the waitress ANNA was charming, m the salad bar is OK, and the restaurant decor and garden setting are beautiful . The green beans are good too, but I have nothing good to say about the prime rib. My advice is to go to the Red Bridge Tavern if you want really good food. PS The bathrooms are in the basement, and it's musty. They really need a dehumidifier down here. PPS. it will be at least another 40 years before I return. read more

I called in a takeout order and was told it would be ready in 15 minutes. I live 5 minutes from the restaurant, added 5 minutes to the estimate, and arrived 5 minutes after the promised time. When I was given the order 30 minutes after I arrived, the food was warm, not hot. The place was slammed with Saturday night diners, so I can understand orders being late. What I can't understand is why I was given a standard availability time. If it was going to take 45 minutes, tell me at time of order. Don't make me get there on your aspirational time schedule and make me wait in an area that is smaller than a standard bathroom. My friends and I have been here a few times before but this time we were brought there by a RI Food Flight Lord of the Wings coupon. The outside was beautiful, covered in a later of snow. It was a winter wonderland. Inside was like a warm skin life/cabin. A fireplace, lots of wood and Christmas decorations made the place feel like home Hanah was our server and she was great! Super friendly, knowledgeable, shared specials without being pushy, just really excellent service. The coupons got us two orders of their Cowboy Wings. We weren't sure what to expect with a seasoned butter on the wings but wow. This was a flavorful wing. It was similar to a cajun seasoning taste but without the heat. Firstly, atmosphere. Inviting, cozy, clean. Service was spot on! We had reservations, so our wait was only minutes. There was a 50th Anniversary group and other large family groups. Once at our table, our sever gave us water a bread. Took our drink order and it didn't take long at all considering the number of people. Now, most importantly, the food was perfect! I wouldn't have one negative comment. Our table had lobster, prime rib, stuffed sole, Fisherman's platter, and scrod. Every single one of us were pleased with our meal! When my lobster Mac 'n cheese arrived, the pasta was overcooked. My partner's prime rib was fine but the "fries" were more like scraps of fried potatoes. I find The Grist Mill to be incredibly unique and a super fun/romantic date night spot. The first thing that I love is the ample parking in the parking lot along the water. When you first enter, it's alot to take in, but it's also so unique. You'll need reservations on a busy night but we walked right in on a Wednesday night. First thing on the table- warm cinnamon bread. It's truly amazing and makes you feel at home (you can also order a whole loaf to go home with you for just $10!) They do have a salad bar with LOTS of options, my guest was incredibly impressed by this. For dinner- my guest and I ordered the all you can eat for two, which came with flights of meatloaf, turkey and stuffing, mac and cheese, pulled pork and mashed potatoes and green beans. It was topped off with a Cinnamon bread pudding/sundae. It was all amazing and we left stuffed. The best things were the pulled pork (the sauce was amazing) and the green beans were perfectly cooked. Food is great. It's not cheap, but for what you get I think it's a fair price. Salad bar is good. Portions are large and food tastes good. I don't think steak is their specialty so i'd avoid that. Land feast is what we usually go for, but the seafood entrees are pretty good too. My biggest complaint is that they do not allow customers to take boxes of left over "feast" dinner home anymore. It's such a waste and makes me not want to go back there. If you ask for a "refill" of your feast plate, I get not allowing the customers to take anything home, but we don't. We were told to talk away from literally another meal that we left on the dishes because of their "policy". Knowing that the food will be thrown in trash makes me mad. Unbelievable waste. This review is for the MillStone Supper Club-an intimate 10 seat dining experience in the basement of the OGMT. Reservations are by invitation after scanning a QR code and entering reservation details. This place is small and intimate but you are not sitting on top of each other. Heidi was a one woman show-she was the server, bartender, food runner, coat check and busser-She very well couldve been the chef too. They start you off with a glass of sparkling wine and a bottle of still water. You choose from one app (there were 2 choices-Lobster Arancini or a Berry Salad. They send out delicious locally sourced olive bread accompanied by a whipped Danish butter. In between the app and entree they brought out a mango sorbet with lemon and like zest. There were 3 entrees to pick from-a tuna entree, a short rib rav or a Beef that came with an $18 supplement. The beef was perfectly cooked and cane with green beans and whipped potatoes. In between entree and dessert they brought us each out a salted caramel macaron. The dessert choices were a beery tart or espresso panna cotta. With the check they brought out 2 very small pieces of cake-the worst part of this meal. Maybe choose a couple of truffles instead. My husband chose the Premium Wine Pairing ($37) and also had an old fashioned ($21). They only have 2 drinks on the menu, a vodka martini and the old fashioned-also some wine and a bottled water menu. I wish they had other drinks because i didnt want the 2 on the menu or wine..... However I did see someone else order an espresso martini so I wish they disclosed you could order a drink off the menu. The timing of courses was great. Only changes I would make is maybe send out an amuse bouche to start the meal-something savory. Also maybe offer coffee, or an after dinner drink. We had 4PM reservations on Friday 2/13 w/ a waterfall view. We were promptly seated and Lani was our server. The good news first. The Aperol Spritzers and cinnamon bread were excellent. Then we ordered soup and entrees literally at 4:05 because we knew what we wanted. Lani said she would put the soup in first. Soon my French onion soup came out and I waited a few minutes for Louann's chowder. Lani saw I had soup and said she would check on the chowder. When she brought it out, it was cold. Lani took it back and microwaved it and it came back hot. We were still eating our soup when a male came with our entrees, literally pushing the soup bowls out of the way! So while we were eating our soup my ribeye was getting cold. Louanns seafood was on a heated dish, however, the mashed potatoes, her green beans and my asparagus were all cold! We informed Lani they were cold. She went back into the kitchen and upon return said they were going to bring more out to us. Shortly another woman, dressed more like an manager/asst mgr brought out a bowl with mashed potatoes and green beans. Oh did I mention I ordered a medium rare steak that was almost fully cooked. Now to end our experience while we were resting and finishing a drink, Louann had a view of the salad bar and where the cinnamon bread is kept. She watched as an older waitress with medium length white hair and glasses reached in with her hand and grabbed a piece of the bread. She then shook her hand in order to break off a piece. She then ate the piece and proceeded to lick her thumb and three fingers! She then placed her hand with the licked fingers on the counter. Then a cook handed her a dish of food that she grabbed with that same hand and brought it over to a group of 4 people sitting in the center booth facing the waterfall. I understand it was a busy evening, but this was the worst restaurant experience I have ever run into! (Excluding Lani she kept smiling and apologizing.) The Grist Mill's new Supper Club is a welcome addition. Down the stairs from the noisy, chaotic dining room is a quiet, dark, cozy room, the home of the Millstone Supper Club. There are only 5 tables and a limited menu so diners feel part of a truly exclusive dining experience. The service was exceptional. Our server, Austin, was warm, approachable and knowledgeable. The food was expertly prepared and beautifully plated. Three courses with optional wine pairings are perfectly portioned so you don't feel too full, but are completely satisfied. The Market Salad was perfectly dressed with a delicious champagne vinaigrette. The parchment roasted halibut was perfectly cooked and the citrus-soy glaze, which is served on the side, complimented the fish. The fish was served with a little too much jicama and a touch of chanterelle mushrooms. I would have liked less jicama and maybe another vegetable to expand the palate. The entree was followed by a palate cleanser, mango sorbet. The sorbet was delicious. Dessert was a truffle trio (extremely rich) and my favorite the poached pear. Drizzled with warm maple caramel and served with vanilla ice cream it was the perfect ending. My husband enjoyed the wine pairings. The selections were some of his favorites. The lobster scampi was good the only downside is it was only knuckles and claw meat. The 10 ounce prime rib is very tender and well worth the money. The mashed potatoes and string beans was filling themselves. The wait was faster than I was expecting. Ethan was our waiter nice polite and friendly. He was helpful in answering all our questions and if he didn't know the answer he went and asked the manager. This was his first day on his own and he was given the downstairs area which is basically the overflow when the place is very packed. Also down here there is no reception but I am writing in my notes and will copy it over to Yelp. Ethan's first day on his own he is doing a great job in asking the manager questions instead of assuming or making the wrong decisions. The ambiance down here is quiet and very peaceful. What a gorgeous setting, flowing river, rapids right outside the restaurant with a gorgeous patio overlooking a lake full of waterlillies and ducks. The restaurant interior is rustic and sprawling with large windows facing the storybook setting. We ordered the warm cinnamon bread when we sat down, and it was scrumptious. Crispy buttery cinnamon sugar crusts, with delicate brioche center. Our party enjoyed clams casino, ribeye, baked cod, grilled salmon, fried scallops and prime rib. My salmon was slightly overdone but still good, my partners ribeye was not great. After mentioning it, our fantastic server responded immediately, removing the ribeye and offering to make something else. The manager came over and spoke with us, also offering solutions. From that experience alone, I'd return, a restaurant that's not defensive and in denial about a simple mistake. Everyone enjoyed their meals and we had a great dinner. I wish I could remember our servers name, she was excellent. After our meal we walked over the little bridge to the ice cream shop next door. On our way back, we realized in horror, that we'd profoundly under tipped our amazing server. We rushed back and updated our check, our server laughed it off and again, was beyond nice. We had reservations for 11:30 on Valentine's Day. We were told that they couldn't find our reservation and had us wait off to the side so the line behind us could be checked in and sat at their table. We stood next to another elderly couple who had the same situation as us. After 25 minutes we were asked if we would mind going downstairs (the basement) to dine in the clubhouse! The staff is friendly and provide a lot of suggestions for meals. There were quite a few different entrées of which I left my choice up to the server. She chose salmon. After enjoying a nice smoked bourbon and a calamari appetizer, Our dinners arrived. The calamari was good. There was nothing to dip the calamari into except a lemon to squeeze over it. As far as the salmon goes, this is one of the very few times I had to return my meal. The bottom of the salmon was so charred that all you could taste was burnt Salmon. Upon return of the replacement dinner, that too was burnt. The meal included squash with brussel sprouts. There were no taste to this side. We went there for Easter with a party of 16. They messed up the reservation so they moved our table. Our entire family was separated so we couldn't sit together. 10 of us sat up the bar and had a couple of drinks and then decided not to eat because we weren't with our family and they shut us off, took the generous tip we gave the bartender and told us the reason why they shut us off was because we didn't eat. They have been a debacle from day one from making our reservation to not being organized . We call the bartender and the manager over and ask them to give us a reason and they were stuttering and rude. First time here in many years. Came for Lobsterfest and it did not disappoint! We made a reservation, which was good as it was a busy Friday night. Our server, Christian, was pleasant, and very good at his job. We got the crab cake appetizer, which was very tasty. We both ordered the baked stuffed twin lobsters. They were not overcooked, which often happens with baked stuffed. Stuffing was really good, too. We were too stuffed for dessert. Another enjoyable element to the evening was a piano player who was subtly playing Beatles, Billy Joel, Elton John and other similar artists. We came here again for Turn Back Tuesday where the prices are from years prior. The night we dined, it was sirloin strip steak night which was served with green beans and potato. For $18.95 the meal came with salad bar which was good. Nothing crazy or fancy, fairly limited but typical selections which was satisfying and a nice addition that pretty much no other restaurant offers. It's always a highlight. The steak was cooked to perfection (medium, as ordered) and was very tender, buttery to cut through. It had good flavor. It was not the biggest steak in the world but sized just right for the $18.95 price. Green beans were nicely crunchy and fresh. My baked potato was just fine, no complaints. The value was definitely right on point. Overall we left full, but not stuffed, which is great. Service was great. Our server checked on us frequently, but not too frequently. We received our drinks and food pretty fast and everything was timed well. What really made the night was the server was happy to accommodate an allergy request in the kitchen from our table. Feel like the grist mill is definitely a solid 4 stars. The only thing preventing a full five stars is that the regularly priced menu is overall really pricy for what you get, which is casual/comfort food but priced as upscale/formal. As for the food, the cinnamon bread is still delicious, but my prime rib was extremely heavily salted, and the salad bar options seem to have become more limited than in past visits. And then, as is par for the course these days, the bill is presented on an electronic tablet, while the server stands over you as you make the tip selection (with options starting at 20%). We started with drinks, the salad bar and their famous cinnamon and corn bread basket. I absolutely love the meatloaf dinner and it was delicious as usual. We began with their salad bar - very fresh...some of the items that hit me good were the spicy wasabi peas, and these sweet/ spicy peppers. Yummy They have a Land Or Sea special.
