Their selection is outstanding, but the attitude of the staff is so poor I would not consider buying there. They answered all my questions knowledgeably, but seemed irritated that they had to take time to help a customer. If you're not bothered by attitude, this is the place since you can't beat it for selection, but personally, I'll get ideas there and shop online. One star for poor customer service. Someone must have told them to acknowledge customers who were waiting for service because I heard repeatedly, "someone will be with you shortly" The displays are plentiful but many of the bins were empty, missing parts or screws, and none were priced. After waiting over 20 minutes at the counter to be rung up, while watching employees appear and disappear, I left the item and the store. I get better service at the "big box" and smaller hardware stores. This is the second visit to Belmont Hardware with a similar poor customer service experience. First of all, you have to wait forever to get helped; and when you do, you may get Joey who could care less about you, the customer. He's just in a big hurry to get done with you and is condescending to boot. Some of the other guys are very nice, but the fact remains, it's not a "customer friendly" place. We also had to return a piece of merchandise that was, when we opened it, corroded. They did take it back with no problem. read more

They could not duplicate a master key for me that worked. We tried 8 times. I took the keys home and not one of them worked. The teenager making them was using my master. I took the master to another locksmith and the very first one he made works perfectly. I don't know if it was the inexperienced teenage, key cutting machine or key material, but something was not right. read more

We buy a lot of HW from these folks. Our customers buy a lot of HW from these folks. I have been told on several occasions that they don't have time to help me. I have been ignored on no less that 6 times while waiting for a sales rep. I was told once to come back tomorrow. The old man, I assume the owner is probably the most pompous rude person at the store. I tell all of my customers now to go to General Hardware in Redwood City. They don't have the semi fancy showroom but they are the nicest and well informed people around. Pioneer Millworks is another option for Emtek. Someone needs to open a Hardware store in the bay area to compete with this horrible overpriced place. Horrible service bad attitude. They act as though they are doing you a huge favor when they help you, not professional. If I remember correctly, they are closed on Monday, what is up with that? Everything takes 6 weeks to get so you have an alternative of buying it online and saving time and money. read more

I'm surprised to see negative reviews about Belmont Hardware's customer service. My experience couldn't have been more pleasant. Ryan W was the salesperson who helped me and he was friendly & knowledgable. He was also very patient with my toddler who was curiously getting into all the bins, even keeping her entertained while I spent time choosing from their impressive selection of cabinet handles and drawer pulls. I ended up with some beautiful Baldwin pieces that I could not find elsewhere. Definitely go to Belmont Hardware if you're looking for something beyond the typical Amerock stuff. read more

When it comes to Screws, Nuts & Bolts, Belmont Hardware Rules! The guy who wrote "These guys need to remove "hardware" from their title. They are not a hardware store in any sense of the word. What they actually are is a high end "accessories" store." has not bothered to go the the other side of the store - which is located in a separate store front to the left. In there they have all the "hardwarish" stuff. Granted it is not a large collection, but let me tell you if you need screws, nuts, bolts or things of that nature, their selection blows Home Despot away. I usually go here, but tonight they were closed so I stupidly went to Home Despot and found their selection to be messy and they did not have a simple metric screw that I needed. And furthermore their hardware guys usually know their stock very well and are always willing to help. So go to Belmont Hardware! They have their own lot in the rear. read more

They should rename this place "Knobs R Us." They have an amazing selection of knobs and drawer pulls in a wide range of prices, but definitely skewed toward high end. I agree with other reviewers that you may have to wait for service, but when it was my turn, the employees were helpful. The Schaub line of drawer pulls and knobs is especially impressive and especially expensive. read more

Belmont Hardware is awesome! We came in looking for door pulls for a playhouse that our architecture firm designed for a charity auction. Anton, the store manager, was incredibly helpful. He showed us all the options that met our requirements and was very patient while we made a decision. When he found out the playhouse was for charity, he even donated the door pulls! Their phone system could certainly use some work, but overall I am happy with the service I received while remodeling. The sales staff had a wide range of knowledge, and I have no idea how they even keep track of what-looks-like a million cabinet knobs. The same guy who helped me find my front door hardware also was able to assist with cabinet hardware as well. They definitely try to go the extra mile for you, and will even call you back with an answer if you manage to stump them with a question. We had not very pleasant experience, I have ordered one handle for kitchen cabinet, should be delivered in one week, it took me two weeks to get and it was wrong handle, salesperson have ordered wrong handle. Again I have been told it will take 5-7 days, but it took me about 2.5 weeks to get it. They have nice inventory but not sure about customer service. read more

Awesome service!! My Baldwin door handle was busted. I looked online but couldn't find the part needed. I was looking at buying a new handle at $200, but decided to check in at Belmont Hardware first. I brought the handle. They had the part in stock and fixed it for me right then and there. I had not been to Belmont Hardware (in Belmont, CA) in years. I could usually find what I needed at Home Depot. This time I was looking for faucets and fixtures for my bathroom, and I know very little about them. I spent hours on the computer looking at brands and models, but in the end, you have to see them in person. I went to Home Depot and Lowe's to look. Their selections were limited and not too many people around to answer questions. I wanted to make sure I purchased everything I needed and that it complied with California requirements, etc. One day I stopped by Belmont Hardware and Jenifer was the person who helped me in the faucets and fixtures department. She is very knowledgeable and courteous and patient. She answered all of my questions and gave me information I did not know I needed to know. She also wanted to make sure I was happy with my choice of faucets and fixtures. We met several times, probably for a total of 8 hours (one time she stayed with me after the store closed). I am very happy with the faucets and fixtures I purchased. I also ordered a couple of items from the other part of the store. One of them was a mailbox I had seen in my neighborhood. I ended up paying less for the mailbox than if I had ordered it online directly from the manufacturer. Every time I visited Belmont Hardware, I was greeted by my first name by Jenifer, Mike, Jay and Sharon. They all are very pleasant and anxious to help. This review is for the Decorative Plumbing Section and Jenifer in particular. I went in to find a replacemnent part for my kitchen sink- soap dispenser. She identified the part and looked very hard for it but did not have one. She provided me with two contact telephone numbers to speciality dealers who may have the item. I was able to obtain it from one of these. I was totally impressed with the fact that she was able to produce these telephone numbers from memory. Knowledgeable and great customer service. read more

Well, at first I thought it was just me and I was imagining things, but after reading the reviews, I completely agree with the majority. Belmont Hardware is well below average in customer care. I'm pretty thick-skinned, but I must admit the people in the San Jose store are down right unpleasant people. I normally do all my home improvement shopping at Saratoga Plumbing, but after there was a item I needed that Saratoga didn't carry, I went to Belmont Hardware. What a mistake that was! I really don't have much good to say about them at all. Poor poor poor customer service, inadequate inventory and very expensive prices. They wouldn't even open the door for me as I was carrying out my large order (after they failed to offer assistance loading it into my car), and I was the only customer in the store! I came away from there today believing they were mad at me for wanting to pick up my $2500 worth of door handles I purchased from them. Well, I will never step foot in there again. Saratoga plumbing, just a few blocks away is completely the opposite of Belmont Hardware and that is where I will make all my purchases from now on. I only give this place 2 stars instead of one b/c they do carry a lot of hardware in stock. But I have to say the customer service and knowledge of the staff is pretty unacceptable. I'm a designer and I make frequent trips to hardware places and I think I know more about what they carry and which brand better than their staff do. On my last order with them placed months ago, I had lost track of it until I need it recently on the job, called them, they have no idea where it is and they never called me back with what they find out. When I called back again to get a refund of which they charged me months ago as I found the item in a different store, the person on the phone not only didn't apologize about the months long delay but said they can't refund me until they know where the item is with the manufacturer. I hope the store's owner takes in what its customers are saying and hire some new staff and really make it a professional place to shop. read more

The service here is horrible. I live in Sunnyvale and went there to order drawer pulls because I'd heard that have a good selection. It took forever to get waited on and when a guy named Erin finally did he was unhelpful and rude. I was told the order would arrive in 10 days, maybe earlier. After a couple of weeks went by I called to if it was in, explaining that I didn't want to drive up there again until all the stuff I'd ordered was there. The lady I spoke to checked and assured me that everything had come in, so I drove up there. When I arrived Erin told me that only part of the order was in, and stated loudly that he is the only one there that knows what he's doing, and why hadn't I waited for him to call me? I left and waited another 2 weeks for him to call . When I finally got a call from Erin, who was again rude on the phone, I went a third time to pick them up. Bad service. The only person in this store who is pleasant and actually helps you is the young woman in charge of the bathroom supplies. The men are self-important and act too busy to be bothered with customers. We ordered house numbers and stood in line so long that the people behind us decided to go out and have lunch and come back. A mom with her two young sons (who had started off well behaved) was doing everything she could to keep them well-behaved as they slowly fell apart during the half hour it took for someone to help her. People were making jokes about how long the wait is and offering to pay to move up to the next spot. Black humor dispelled the anger. Unfortunately, the only place we could find the color numbers we needed was here -- they do have a wide selection. The young man who finally attempted to help us apologized because he did not know how to place the order in the computer. We had to wait for the Boss. I overheard the Boss say, "tell 'em 20 minutes at the earliest." It took 45 minutes to order three house numbers. When the numbers arrived the molly bolts to install them were so poorly made we had to buy new ones or the numbers would have fallen off the front of our stucco house. I called the store on a Tuesday to ask for assistance - I was referred to Marci - I left a message and never got a return call. I decided to drive from SF to the store the following Saturday only to find out the pluming section was closed (which I would have discovered if I had received a return call). None the less I decided to take a look and while the selection is impressive the store manager (Frank) was the most unprofessional, distasteful person I have come across in quite some time. He not only was unpleasant to me as a customer he was extremely unkind to the new salesman who was trying to help me. I was so offended by the way he treated the salesperson in front of customers (and when I questioned his arrogant way told me he wasn't talking to me) I decided to leave - I do not believe anyone should treat another individual the way he did and I refuse to support a store that apparently feels it is appropriate not to return calls, insult customers and berate employees publicly. read more
