I liked this salon. I have been booking with Candace, and she is the only person that I've been to that can get my 4b hair silky straight and somehow nooo heat damage! Sometimes the wait is long to get washed and started, but once your started its in and out. Great products and the atmosphere is fine. I will definitely continue going for times when I want my hair straightened or conditioned and blow dried. I called for a last minute appointment (11:15am for a noon appointment) and was able to be squeezed right in. The salon is very "chique" (ha) in decor and CLEAN!! Candice and Robin were very friendly. I showed Candice a picture of the bob cut I wanted (I had shoulder length natural hair) and she definitely delivered. She even asked before she cut more length off which I definitely appreciated because let's face it, some stylists def get scissor happy ok? I also really loved the fact that she used a hot comb (in 2015!) to straighten my hair before finishing the style with a flat iron. The cut is definitely precise and my hair is so lightweight with lots of movement. Totally obsessed and I love it! I had not been to a salon in over 5 years. I had done my own relaxers, sew-ins and (unsuccessfully) clipped my own ends. I moved to the area a few months ago, and had been asking around for a good hairdresser to properly cut my hair. After not getting any good recommendations, I decided to turn to the web for suggestions. I was terrified by the reviews given on Dominican salons, and not impressed with others. After reading such positive reviews on Ngina, and her professional business habits, I knew she would be worth a try. When I got there, the staff was courteous and professional. Ngina, was kind and personable and her assistant was swift and efficient. Keep in mind, I hadn't been to a salon in years; and the last I remember is that they would be slow, careless and you could be in there from sunrise to sunset, but not at Studio Chique. I got a wash, steam treatment, blow-dry and cut and I was only there a little over 2 hours. Ngina exceeded my expectations, and my hair really has never looked this shiny and healthy after one appointment! I'm still trying to figure out how my hair got this incredible shine without greasy residue on my hands. My plan was to put a sew-in right back in in a few days, but I'm actually going to wear my own hair for a while--or as long as this remarkable shine and body lasts! Ngina indicated that people get weaves in order for their hair to look as good as mine does, and I believe her! She's got a new client in me. Plus, I've been getting compliments and its days later! I unfortunately bought a groupon for services at studio chique before reading the reviews on here. Although their gel manicure and express pedicure was extremely pricey compared to other deals on groupon, I was in a rush and needed to go to a salon close by. However, it's clear now I should have just made the time and gone to a salon further away. It was my understanding when I bought the groupon that only the pedicure was meant to be express, not the gel manicure. However, the entire process was incredibly rushed and lacked many of the amenities typical of a manicure. To start, the nail technician failed to clean under my nails, didn't use lotion on them or massage them and didn't properly remove my cuticles . Beyond that, some of my nails dried lumpy and most upsetting of all, one of my nails cracked less than a week after having my manicure done. The purpose of getting a gel manicure is to ensure your nails last longer. Instead, my gel manicure didn't even last the length of a normal manicure, despite my precautions to protect my nails and avoid any activities that might damage them. I am extremely disappointed to already have a broken nail, only days after getting my gel manicure at the salon. The pedicure was a bit more satisfactory but probably only because I came into the salon expecting an express pedicure. While the services were rushed and again lacked certain amenities (dry skin removal, massage, etc.) at least the services seemed true to the way they were advertised. Regardless, $41 for a gel manicure and express pedicure is extremely overpriced for services of this caliber, especially when you can get better deals for less money at other salons in the area. While I think the nail technician was very nice and my pedicure does look ok, I would not consider paying for this groupon again, let alone paying full price for these services. Ultimately, I agree with the others on here who say that you really aren't pampered while at studio chique and the outcome ultimately isn't worth what you pay for it. I would recommend taking your money elsewhere, rather than overpaying for this bareboned maincure/ pedicure. I'm sure their hair services are great and perhaps they provide more comprehensive services for "full-paying" customers but I feel that their deal was both misleading and disappointing. read more

Johnnie is the best! Very personable and gets my natural hair pressed and looking like I have a perm! If you're like me, you aren't too keen of scissor happy stylists lol but a trim is truly a trim which I like. I've been going to Studio Chique since moving to DC over a year ago. A friend recommended Candice to me, and I can't speak more highly of her! My hair has never looked better. I have natural hair, and Candice has retained my curl pattern and given me consistently good trims (she's not scissor happy). She's very sweet and going to her feels like getting your hair done by a girlfriend! The rest of the staff is talented, as well. Octavia and Candice slay hair regularly. Whitney and DaSean usually give me a wash, detangle, and blow dry before I get to Candice's chair (added plus, both of them are HILARIOUS). I called Studio Chique for my mom who recently had been in the hospital and was unable to have her hair done for over a month. The owner answered the phone and was extremely courteous and helpful. She said she would accommodate my mom and even come and work on her hair on the lower floor of the two floor salon so she didn't have to walk up so many steps. Being a guy I don't know the exact terminology for the hairstyle my mom got but the results were great and she looks better than she has in many years. I got Adrienne (the waxers rotate, she is normally there on Wed), she is a pro and by far the best waxing experience I have had , YES IT STILL HURTS, but not for long. She does not double dip, uses a combination of soft and hard wax, communicates with her clients, and has a great little space. She even pulled stray hairs with a tweezer under a bright magnifying light. Adrienne is a pleasant lady and I will book an appointment with her again. read more

I needed my hair washed really bad and was having a very lazy weekend and just didn't feel like doing it myself. I haven't seen my hair straight in years so I figured I'd book a shampoo, blow dry, trim, treatment and a "chique" press with whoever was available (which definitely gave me some anxiety, but figured worst case scenario I end up back in wigs). Clara ended up doing my hair and it looked so good! I honestly haven't seen my hair look that healthy in YEARS. The entire experience at Studio Chique earned all 5 stars. The salon itself was clean, perfectly decorated, and just had a good vibe to it. The online booking process was easy and straightforward. I went on a Saturday morning and didn't have to wait at all. Having had my fair share of the typical salon experience of waiting and waiting and more waiting this was a pleasant surprise and honestly a breath of fresh air. I'm a big fan of Ngina! I've been twice already, and both times have had great experiences with my hair! The first time around I made an appointment with Ngina herself, and this last time around I had an appointment with Octavia. I have two qualms about the place: it's pricey ($75 for wash and cut?) and they are very guilty of double-booking. This last time around, I was in and out if Octavia's chair, and it took a long while until I finally got the attention I needed for a press and cut. Also, just realized my cut is uneven...I think next time I go to Studio Chique, I'll book with Ngina. Update: I was able to make an appointment and come into the salon for a relaxer touch-up re-do with Octavia (she did my last touch up as well) and they were nice enough to do the re-do free of charge (not totally free because I did have to pay for the blow dry and style). This time it definitely came out better, but still not perfect as I'm used to at my other salon that I've had to stop going to because I moved. She also used A LOT of heat which I know has to happen to get my hair silky smooth and straight (and the end result was just that and very nice) but when the blow dryer air is so hot it burns your scalp repeatedly, it might be too much. read more

I have been coming to Studio Chique for a couple of years now and I must say that I have never been disappointed. I have natural hair and I agree with most; it's very hard finding someone who knows how to handle your coils with care, expertise and swag.... Candice manages to amaze me EVERY time. I treat myself to her silk press frequently and let me tell you my hair is always light, bouncy and basically blowing in the wind!!! She is very knowledgeable and advises me when I need a trim or a deep condition. She even goes above and beyond advising me about products and how to maintain my style. I have wanted to experiment with color but never got the guts to proceed because of my apprehension and indecisiveness about the color. I finally had a consultation with Candice about the color, told her what my concerns were and the look I was going for. I went here after my wife bought me a Groupon for a massage. Needless to say I was really excited as I have not had a massage in over a year due to recovering from broken bones. The salon was a little sketchy from the outside but I was expecting that due to reading previous reviews. When we finally made it on the inside there was a stylist and her client deep in conversation. There was no acknowledgement that we were even there. Finally the "receptionist" came to check us in and let Marsha know we were there.Marsha came and she was nice enough but I should have known something was up when she did not read my client profile. However, I got undressed and waited for the session to begin. Immediately when she began the massage it was really painful! I informed her of this several times but this did little to make her ease her pressure. The massage felt one of an amateur as I have worked in several career colleges which offered massage and received better. I also believe she used olive oil or some cheap version that smelled awful. The pain continued throughout and my constant cringing and complaining did little to reset the pressure she applied. After the massage my back was tinder to the touch. So much so I could barely sleep that night and had to sleep on my stomach. Today is the next day and it hurts to even put a shirt on. I have had massages for over 20 years but can never remember being in this much pain! My skin is tender to the touch still after several Epson salt baths. I will NEVER purchase another massage on Groupon or listen to reviews on yelp for this service. It was AWFUL!!!! read more

Chimere is awesome! She is clearly a veteran, professional stylist. I watched her work her magic on a client with natural hair, and then she did the same with my permed hair! It was my first visit, so I was a bit apprehensive, but Chimere assured me that I could sit back and relax, so I did. She ensured that my hair was well conditioned, even though I did not ask for a deep conditioner (and I was not charged for one). Just a regular conditioner had my hair shinier, silkier and bouncier than I've EVER experienced in 25 years of relaxers (I have VERY coarse, thick hair). In addition, I did not give her much direction regarding my hairstyle, but she took my broad direction and created a beautiful, modern look without much cutting. I have a very sensitive scalp, and Chimere paid attention to that as well. I did burn a little, but she soothed my scalp with an application--rather than trying to ignore it or hide it like some other stylists do. In addition, she did not go crazy with my trim. I encouraged her to chop off anything dead and even out any breakage, but she was conservative and only trimmed what was necessary. Plus, she easily followed the shape of my previous style. Best of all, Chimere is FAST. While she is pleasant, she is not overly chatty or too personal--she gets right down to business, and I like that about her. I was out of there in less than two hours; I cannot remember the last time, if ever, that I had my hair done so quickly! Although she was fast, I didn't feel even the least bit rushed. Also, bear in mind that I waited for about 30 minutes. Had I not waited, I would've been out of there in 1.5 hours--still, with amazing results. Finally, I was very pleased to receive a relaxer and trim for well below $100. Prices are very reasonable as compared to salons in Northern Virginia where I live. The only reason I give the salon 4 stars out of 5 this time is because (1) I had to wait, even though my visit was still incredibly short, (2), the assistant (who was very nice) almost shampooed my hair without asking what type of service I requested--until I stopped her just in time and informed her that I was there for a relaxer, and (3) because I rarely give the highest score on the first encounter. Time will tell, but I was very pleased with Chimere's work, and I have high expectations for my next visit! read more

Trust me, I know that's asking alot, but Studio Clique did not disappoint! This boutique spa/salon puts safety first, for its staff and customers by taking temperatures and having you cleanse your hands as soon as you hit the door. The beautiful decor immediately catches your attention, it is clear that each item was carefully selected to create posh, warm inviting atmosphere. I recieved a cut and full color (which included highlights and low lights). I expressed my concern about maintaining my natural curl pattern and how previous experiences loosen my curls. Ngina and her team assured me that would not be the case and they were right. After a full color I can easily go between my curls and flat iron styles. As long as I'm in the DMV this is my salon. I will be booking an appointment to take advantage of the spa services. I visited this place and had requested "gel nails" from the nail tech and by the time I got home, the product was lifting and peeling. I am reporting them to the state bureau for cosmetology because after trying to settle the situation and politely let them know I wasn't happy and wanted my money back. After trying to reschedule my appointment for another day (within the 24 hour cancellation policy) I was told that I would forfeit the amount of my groupon because the appointment was moved on the morning of, which is listed nowhere in their policy.
