Went with my girlfriends with an appointment. One wanted a manicure, but only got her cuticles done and then polish. Got charged 40 for it. She needed her hands done but felt rushed. When I went to pay my bill and the person at the desk said it would be 50.00. I asked her why their website said 42.00. She said I guess we forgot to change the website. First hair salon I've been to in VA where I was actually listened to. Being in the military, every time I go to get my hair cut and the stylist learns this info I'm given the most bland, boring, lifeless "boot camp" styled cut, ignoring any picture or request I make. So so so glad I came in here and met Morgan. She not only fixed my boring cut but she gave my hair so much life. I have thick wavy hair, so before my short hairstyle made me hair look frizzy and poofy. Morgan added so many layers and was so precise in her placement with literally everything. Amazing service and compassion from everyone. I previously went to a salon and they almost ruined my hair. They caused a tennis ball size mat/knot on the top of by head. I was distraught. My roommate is currently a client there and set up the appointment. We show up and out walks John. He was so sympathetic to what I was going on though. This poor guy worked for over an hour and a half to get out the knot and for the majority was successful. All the time me to take breaks and be frustrated with a smile on his face. JOHN IS AMAZING! The manicures were perfect and they really outdid themselves with the hair styling. I especially like how Aneta does an updo. Just don't go because no matter what you tell your hairdresser even if you show pictures they will still cut 8 inches off your hair, even if you specifically tell them to keep your length. Went in asked for him to trim up my layers and showed him a picture of a girl with SOFT medium layers. I knew i was fucked when i realized he never brushed OR part my hair the WHOLE HAIRCUT. He's then proceeded to cut 4-6 inch layers ONLY ON THE BACK OF MY CROWN. I was devastated walking out with an 80's blow out and the choppiest layers i've ever had. Just please don't go okay i wanted to cry my whole appointment watching my hair fall around me and when i got home i immediately went to shower to get the multiple products that he put in my hair out since i never use products(which i told him and he still continued to put dry shampoo in my hair RIGHT AFTER HE WASHED IT, lifting spray and something else i can't remember) i sat in my shower for an hour crying after being able to get my hair all in my hands i realized i had half as much hair as i did going in. I had a Brazilian bikini wax at this location after searching for a location for months, after moving here, and it compared very favourably with other salons I've experienced in other cities like Atlanta. The price was a couple dollars more than another location (they said they were $50+, so could have been 65 or more too) at $65, but for the thorough and neat job she did, it was worth it. I felt welcome there, and they were on time, and it was clean and friendly in the salon. I'll definitely go back there. Nice clean salon. I came in on a whim for a haircut, hoping to fix a bad cut I'd gotten recently. Kim, my stylist, was sweet and attentive, listened to what I wanted and did a pretty good job of disaster management with the haircut. The atmosphere was great, relaxed and friendly. The down side is, I'm kind of cheap and they're a bit on the pricier side (not for around here, I guess, I was just raised on $5 haircuts). By far the best salon in Hampton Roads. It's the salon I go to for my "Me" time but now I take my children there because they are so attentive. They go above and beyond every time especially with the kids. They add cute little braids in my daughters hair for fun and add cool color chalk in my sons hair. From the moment you walk in the door, you can see that customer service is a huge priority at Studio East. The staff are so friendly and welcoming, remember your name and offer drinks while you wait. I have been in too many hair salons where the stylists are critical of customers and each other. This is not the case at Studio East. The staff are very positive and complimentary, and really act like a team. My stylist did an excellent job of interpreting my concerns about my hair and giving me a cut that I loved. FYI, they will trim your bangs for free if you are an existing customer. Their services are pricey, particularly for someone who has used retail-type salons frequently in the past. Fortunately, their prices are posted on their website so you will not need to be surprised. They also offer discounts for students, and for referring others to the salon. I knew approximately how much I would pay beforehand, and I still was extremely impressed with their store environment and services. I will definitely continue getting my hair cut at Studio East. I do not mind paying for great customer service, cheerful staff and a comfortable experience. read more

The owners/management are the rudest/crudest people I've ever had the displeasure of knowing. I have never seen a salon operate under such hideous management or staff. I have been a cosmetologist for 12 years and a Master Esthetician for 8. I have worked in many salon and spa environments and I'm well versed in the inner workings behind closed doors. I have never seen an establishment treat their employees or customers with such disrespect or distain. I was personally asked to never return because they didn't agree with what was being discussed in confidence between my stylist and I... they were literally eaves dropping and called me after I paid for my service to confront me and threaten me over the phone and tell me I was never welcome in their establishment ever again! I had a terrible experience here;I have been here before and everything went great. I got my eyebrows waxed and didn't notice anything wrong or different. However, afterwards, my eyebrows looked like they were literally about to bleed and felt sore to the touch. I don't know if the wax was too hot or it was the fact that there were no gloves/hand washing involved. I've had my eyebrows waxed more times then I can count and this has never happened. Today I had an extra hour on my hands and needed my eyebrows and upper lip waxed, and they were really good about accommodating a last minute appointment. The salon looked clean and tidy. However, the woman who did my eyebrows wasn't very friendly and didn't read the tasking slip - thought she was going to cut my hair and didn't wax my upper lip, although they were going to charge me for it. Im very picky when it comes to picking someone to cut my hair because they might be very talented but if they dont listen to what i want its useless. I LOVE this salon. Convenient, super easy to get in, reasonable pricing (especially for the area). I was a bit hesitant to try this place out due to the location and the fact that it was new to me, but I'm SO glad I did. I tried a few other salons in the area, and was disgusted with how expensive they were. Studio East is upscale, Charles at the front desk is incredibly polite and helpful, all of the stylist are friendly and personable (unlike the "fake" atmosphere in many other salons of this scale) and the place is always squeaky clean. I have very long, thick hair that can be super tricky to color, so I see Dana and she has never once failed to please. I fled from this place with soaking wet hair and in tears.... First I called on Monday to make an appointment with Matt for Wed... When I arrived I was told oops it was for the following Wed. When you start booking for the following week maybe you should inform people. Then I was talked into using a stylist that was on the same level as Matt (NOT) . I agreed. So Dana was the stylist they put me with. First she was pissed off that it was 7:00 and she had to work so close to closing time... The hair washing was more of pour the soap and rinse . Then she cut straight across the end of my hair the bangs on the right side of my head then said feel better and grabbed for her hair dryer. I was shocked and asked ARE YOU DONE ??? A 5 minute hair cut from wash to cut . I got out of her chair as quick as I could and complained to the desk staff that did not seemed surprised and scheduled for the following week with MATT due to Dana not near being on the same level and I think stepped in from sweeping the floors to cut hair (Least they have on the job training). This would have been my second hair cut here. I believe it;s a bait and switch scam going on. The cuts are not cheap so they suck you in with the first cut getting you to come back and then pay the same price with a very less qualified person making less money so the salon can make more money. The back of my hair looked like I cut it myself with my left hand with dull nursery school scissors . If you dare to go be tough in getting your regular stylist and stay clear of Dana she is horrible at cutting hair and does not care about her work... Stick to sweeping floors Dana ! read more

I got highlights in my hair by Emily. I've gotten my hair highlighted for several years now. My hair is fragile and temperamental and I have been to many stylists over the years. Emily did the best highlights that I have ever gotten. I wanted them to look natural, and she made my hair look like I had just spent a summer hanging out outside, sun-kissed and completely natural. Also, I was worried about my hair staying healthy, but it looks and feels so healthy and strong now! I don't know how she did it but she has the Midas touch. The shampoo experience was underwhelming and too short. Blow out was great. Paying was where I had the greatest issue, as you cannot add a tip to your card.
