But they still have their minds and are able to walk in and out on their own so I'll be taking them here for as long as they want. My dad always gets moo goo gai pan and mom usually gets shrimp with broccoli which she did today. I have the crispy Long Island duck, mom and dad, both like that too with the hoisin sauce on the side, and we also got some veggie low mein for the table. This is the only place that we come for a family outing. Also, when we often will have 10 to 14 people. We are a very fussy group not easily pleased. But Sue Chang is always great. read more

Buyer beware!!! We decided to order Chinese food from Su Chang in Peabody for New Year. We placed the order online on Monday 12/29. It went well. Tues afternoon we received a call from the restaurant telling us that they were going to charge us 50% more for our order. Our order was 100.00 dollars and so we would be charged an additional 50.00 dollars. What just happened????? There was no mention of this gauging practice on their website. The caller proceeded to tell my husband that the restaurant doesn't make any money etc. etc... I don't understand what happened. Is this supply and demand?? How can they get away with these practices? I will file a complaint with the AG and see what happens. Terrible customer service! Will never purchase from this group of thieves again. read more

Really good (if expensive) Chinese food. Their service is good, but not exceptional. I like their layout and would generally recommend it - especially now that PF Chang's is gone. One nice thing is their daily specials. That is something that no other Chinese place in the area does. read more

Su changs delights every time. Scallion pancakes are the best for miles around. Pad Thai is amazing, veggie spring rolls are fresh and crunchy and amazing, everything is great. Portion sizes are generous and prices are reasonable. Table tea is fantastic too and sauces are well seasoned and curated nicely. It's one of the best Chinese food places on the north shore. It's easily accessible with a ramp and large spaces in between tables, not sure about the bathroom. Staff is attentive and kind, and checked on a number of items being vegetarian friendly. We wanted to go to lunch here today, but upon arrival we were told that we would be subject to an outrageous 50% surcharge for New Year's Eve! The owner explained that they get swamped on NYE and that the quality of the food suffers for it. So he decided to add the surcharge to discourage business. And his strategy worked on us, at least. Food quality has been disappointing on my past trips. I had accepted this during Covid but has not improved and just jacked up price. I used to drive from Gloucester to get food here but for takeout I prefer the dumpling garden in Danvers at much better price and taste. My friends have been wanting to take me here for a while, so he finally made plans on a Wednesday night. I was surprised to find a parking lot so far as I assumed that in the middle of the week, there was going to be barely anybody. Nonetheless we were able to get seated right away by the kind hostess. We tried a variety of their menus as we were a party of five and very hungry. For appetizers we ordered their Scallion Pie and Crab Rangoon, hot & sour soup, wonton soup, and Singapore tomato and egg soup. Scallion pie and crab rangoons came out piping hot and crispy. We loved the variety of sauces including soy sauce, duck sauce, spicy mustard, and hot chili oil. Everyone was a fan of their soups as far as I was aware and I thoroughly enjoyed my tomato and egg drop soup. Could have helped myself to a bowl portion and then some as opposed to the small cup. In terms of entrees, we shared their Beef in Oyster Sauce with Mushrooms and Vegetables, Singapore Styl Rice Sticks, and Sliced Chicken and Vegetables Chow Foon. Everything was delicious and did not leave us with that heavy and nauseous feeling after too much MSG. I loved the seasoning of the proteins, crunch of the vegetables, and chew of the noodles. Too full for dessert, they provided us with free pineapple slices with our check, which I haven't seen served at a Chinese restaurant for a long time. This restaurant stands the test of time - it still has such a nice elegant vibe to it while serving really awesome food at a reasonable price. She found the sweet & sour chicken bland (coating on the chicken was also mushy), the pork fried rice bland, the scallion pie flat, i.e. bland, and fried wontons blah...overall she found the food to be "yucky" and disappointing. Thankfully, we did not order this food when the 50% surcharge for "quality control" was in effect on NYE and New Years' Day (price gouging run amok) because it seems like quality control has left the building... I came here 8 years ago with relatives from Hong Kong and this place was a hit! Recently swung by again hoping my memory didn't fail me and the quality of the dishes exceeded my expectations. Portion sizes are generous and prices are relatively cheap for the quality. Some dishes to highlight include: - Pan Seared Egg Noodles with Shrimp and Vegetables: the shrimp were enormous, plump, and juicy. Vegetables were fresh and noodles were cooked to perfection. Also, sauce was flavorful without feeling too heavy which is hard to find in this dish. - Yang Chow Fried Rice: a Cantonese classic. It was New Year's Eve, and I think half of the North Shore was ordering Chinese Food. Whe we called Su Changs, they told us there was an up charge of 50%. They tried to get us to call the next day, but we were HUNGRY FOR Su Changs. And their reason for the up charge is so they didn't diminish their QUALITY of food just to have an insane amount of orders. That made sense to me, and since I love their food, I was willing to pay. And we were NOT disappointed! Their menu is always interesting, with specials most of the time, but even their appetizers were above par- better than any Chinese Food in the area- no places are even close to second place! We got mushi chicken and most of the typical appetizers. Every thing was awesome, and the two of us had both dinner that night and a big lunch the next. Not an ounce wasted- and no heavy greasy feeling after eating. It was well worth the upcharge!! I am extremely picky about Chinese Food, as I had a very bad experience once (in a generic place). One of my favorite places. When I go I enjoy their hot and sour soup, them shrimp stuffed eggplant is my absolute favorite. My husband gets the Szechuan beef and chicken fingers. On the day we visited it was busy but didn't have to wait for a table and service is always good. read more

Went for a late lunch last week. Cannot wait to go back! I live in Portland ME and had no clue where to go for Chinese food in the area. I read a few reviews online and took a chance. Days later, my wife and I are still talking about what wonderful food and service we received. We were easily the youngest patrons in the place, and it was very old school...table cloths, hot tea on every table, cloth napkins, the whole shebang. Very wonderfully nostalgic. We had soups, both delicious, spring rolls which were crispy and not too oily, and entrees. The pan seared noodles with pork and chicken was divine. Noodles were crispy, meat was tender and veggies were still crunchy. Dreamy! My spicy beef dish was tasty-to the point that I ate my leftovers on the same day, cold from the refrigerator. We are already planning a return visit. Oh, one more thing-the service was tip top. We felt spoiled. read more

I love su Chang's but went there last night the MSG in the food was so over powering that my mouth was dry till 10:00 the next day. I ordered the shrimp Lomein chic wings ribs beef and mushroom. I know it enhances food and thickens sauce but corn starch s d water works good to. I am a long time chef for 40 years and still work in the food industry and it really ruined the food. We had my Dad's birthday party at the restaurant and the food, service and atmosphere were wonderful. The small party was in the area upstairs which easily accommodated 35 people. They allowed us to substitute some of items on the catering menu and the food was delicious and plentiful. The guest really enjoyed the meal. The service was outstanding with detailed assistance before the event and great wait staff during the meal.
