The sub was perfectly toasted with just enough meat and veggies, and the meatballs were so tender and tasty! The guy taking my order and making my sandwich was really nice and welcoming. i have lived in Escondido for three years and never heard of this place? How?!!! My parents were over and my dad wanted sandwiches so i looked up subs nearby and saw Argusas had good reviews. The menu has A LOT on it. i got the #22 which they recommended. my dad got turkey barbecue and my son got the meatballs. I would've been happy eating any of these items because they were all so good! We had the idea that we were gonna go sit somewhere and eat our sandwiches, but this is a tiny shop with basically a counter to order and no places to sit. So plan on taking your food to go. Stopped by for lunch during a bike ride along the Creek Trail with my cousin. Picked up a delicious 16"Agrusa's Original. We wanted to ride to a park to relax and eat. Person behind the counter suggested Washington Park or Grape Day Park. Rode on to Grape Day Park. Very nice. Unwrapped the sandwich and we both devoured it. Soooo good!! My husband & myself were so excited to try this place.... We love to support small family owned businesses, but in this case I don't think I will return. We walked in at 6:41pm to order sandwiches for dinner. There were 3 gentlemen that all yelled "were closed". I felt bad, thought they were open, because the lights were all on etc. when we walked out 5 other people said yeah we're trying to figure out what to eat now too. So I looked on my phone it said THEY WERE OPEN!!! AT least they were supposed to be open. With this economy If you are supposed to be open, then be open, especially on a Friday night! The menu had quite a few options besides sandwiches as well. We ordered a meatball sandwich and a pastrami. They come in 8 or 16 inches. I actually got a few meals out of the 16-inch meatball sandwich, so that was good. Their bread is perfect; not too crunchy and not soggy. It added to the flavorful meatballs (and pastrami) so that was nice too. We also got a pickle that they split in four so we could share. Really tasty. Being born and raised here I remember always driving past this place and seeing the painting of a girl and boy eating a sandwich. My parents never had taken us here. Wish they had. Actually when I mentioned about my incredible sandwich to my dad he replied, " I'm not sure why I never went there, that place was around even when I was a kid." Well a week ago I decided let's try this place during my visit back home. And my God I'm so happy I did. Our sandwich was so incredible and delicious. The staff was amazing and helpful. When I told them I was gonna save half of our sandwich for our road trip they said they would put dressings and such on the side so the sandwich would last longer. They were swamped with customers as soon as the doors opened Saturday morning and it seemed almost everyone ordered the "Original." The Original. (Cheese, ham, pepperoni, salami, lettuce, tomatoes, etc.) is a delicious creation and their fresh crusty bread is very nice. The "half" sandwich is 8 inches long and that should satisfy anyone. Just keep your naughty jokes to yourself. This place is strictly for takeout and once you step inside, you'll see why. The ordering area is very small. You order at the counter and then receive a buzzer while you wait outside. Give them 15 minutes to create a wonderful sandwich. The potato salad is rich and creamy and the pasta salad, while a little salty, was also very good. Prices are very reasonable, especially for the quality and quantity.
