Fresh ingredients, patient customer service by happy-looking people (you need to be happy too, or else you will end up paying $10 'grumpy' charges), and prompt service. Perfect stop for a healthy sub. The only thing they may improve on is their food handling. If you are as curious as I'm and peer through the plastic 'veneer' guarding the sub-making bench behind the counter, you may find them - as I did - handing food without service gloves on. I write this review as a testament to the public service--yes, the public good--that this shop does. I'll keep this short: the $1.99 sub special is nothing short of salvific. High praise, yes, but deservedly so. Every day, the shop offers their $1.99 sub. The sub is good enough--it's tastier than those you'll find at Subway, but not by too much--but the price, the price. I defy you to find a freshly-prepared foodstuff for a comparable price. Not a processed, fast-food creation; not a canned soup or a canned fish; not a bag of chips. Something made. Something made from recognizable ingredients, and of a similar size. It's not going to happen. Notes on the sandwiches: a bit bready. Solid portions of meat (hear that, Subway?). Veggies are of varied freshness (fading lettuce, bright tomatoes). Good condiment notes (mix of mayo and salt/pepper not overpowering and zesty). Nothing incredible about the sandwiches here, but they are competent. Yet how can I be distressed, when I found a sandwich that loves me? Thank you, Sub Shop, for giving me a $1.99 lunch that is honest. Thank you for making me rethink the Big Hamburger or Jumbo Jack or any sort of gruel that isn't as honest as you. I am A regular here I love how the owners interact with their customers know you by first name and even know ur order before u even say it!!!! They don't skimp on the meat n veggies which I love who can complain about extra meat ?!!!!! They have fresh bread and are very attentive. It does get busy during lunch so if you're in a hurry its recommended you call in your order in advance . They have daily & weekly specials. Weekly 6in sub special is $1.99 and other specials of the day are a half or full sub with fountain drink and chips for around $7.00 or less very reasonable!!!!! They also have family night when subs are a cheaper price after a certain time in the evening. I love this place n their ingredients are great tasting !!! This place is great! I was in Atwater for business and after reading positive Yelp reviews my co-workers and I decided to give it a try. We loved the food and the service was great. The owners treated us like long time customers even though we were from out of town. The sandwiches are really large and filled with meat. The bread is delicious. All around great place. The owners are great people. Thet provide so much support to the local schools and community I would buy sandwiches there even if they weren't the best around, but they are. They use Foster Farm turkey products so you can't get real pastrami or ham, but I like those products and they're certainly healthier alternatives. The bread is delicious and there is a wide range of toppings and condiments. Very reasonable prices an they'll still give you a free sandwich when you get your card stamped enough along with a couple of specials every day. It's often quite busy, but the service is always efficient and friendly. It's a great lunch or light dinner spot. read more

You know it's a good place when there's a line every time you go. Employees and owner are always friendly and know the names of their regulars. Great sub selection and for $6 plus some change I get a full sub with half being for lunch and the other being half saved for dinner. The subs are filling and toppings aren't skimped on. Over the top service, I used this store via the a google search of the reviews of local restaurants in Atwater, CA... Recently, a family member passed away in this small community and I needed to order food for approx 50 ppl. to be sent to the wake. After calling 3 other establishments unsuccessfully, The owner Elizabeth; at The Sub Shop was Fantastic. She gently walked me through her menu, suggesting her party platter ideas and dessert cookies options. After a wonderful and pleasant 20 minute personal phone call to make final delivery arrangements... She accepted my credit card over the phone .
