I will start this review by noting that I would rate the Service Department as a 4/5.... That's where my rating changes. I went into the dealership to buyout a vehicle coming off lease. The vehicle was not originally leased at this dealership. I brought a bank check to cover the residual and state taxes. The sales person was preparing the final paperwork and then the GM and Finance MGR got involved. The Finance manager walked over and said that we will need to pay them an additional $7000+ to purchase an extended warranty, new plates and registration. I was prepared in advance with the price of a warranty. The GM and Finance mgr were trying to tell us that they need to make a profit and they have liability selling us our own car. This is not a true statement, I checked the internet and the dealership does not have any liability selling us our own vehicle. At one point we actually walked out and told them we were going to the dealer we leased the car from to finalize the deal. The GM came out after us to try and save the transaction. How desperate and pathetic can they be... He promised us that he would work with us to make us happy. He then brought us into his office to show his computer screen. The documentation fee was $999. I asked him how come it was so high considering they have spent 20 minutes with us. He told us that its customary for the industry. He said its even higher in NY. At that point he actually told us to leave since he knew that his payday with us was going nowhere. The end of the month is Saturday and a typical dealership would be busy finalizing transactions. This place was empty, no action. Seems as if they were hoping to hit a home run with us. I would NEVER recommend this dealership to buy or lease a car. Drive 25-50 miles and go to one of the larger dealers. read more

High pressure sales, Jacob was the salesman. First he insisted I take the car the same day. . I said I had to think about the car. They insisted I put a deposit down iso the car won't be sold. So I listened and charged xxx on my credit card. On Monday I called & said I changed my mind & wanted my money back. Jacob said he had to get it approved & it would take some time. After a few calls & texts the credit came thru 5 days later. Stay away. read more

Bought our first ever Subaru Outback in 2012 after our 2002 Acura MDX gave up the ghost. I absolutely hate car-buying. This experience was pleasantly quick. My husband did all the negotiating and we signed paperwork after an hour and went home in our new Outback. The service program given to us was the "Lifetime Oil Changes" The program was great as it was quite easy to make an appointment. We've availed ourselves of this program until last Spring. WHY? Because when I took my car for service I was being charged $79.95 for an Oil change. Taken aback i told them we had the lifetime Oil changes. The employee in the Service Department told me that since the ownership of the dealership changed hands they were no longer honoring the lifetime Oil changes. Well the person who scheduled my appointment should have told us that!! Obviously poor management and communication. We had intended to buy a new Subaru as a graduation present for our son. Called a week earlier to make an appointment, my drivers side window will not go all the way up, start to but stops, have to bring window all the way down before it goes up again. They said bring it in and confirmed no charge. This would be the third time brought in for same issue, motor on drivers side was even replaced once. Not even did they not show my appointment in the system, but they said no one would have told me there would not be a charge, they said Sally the girl who made my appointment, would never have told me that. all she does is schedule appointments. Subaru wants to charge me 200. just to diagnose issue. Subaru has lost a great customer, their service is the worst I've ever experienced, and will not be going back. Will make it my goal to warn as many people as I can as to what their experience will be at Subaru in Budd Lake, NJ. read more

Things are only slightly better. I called Aron as suggested. He never heard of Brianna and didn't know where she worked. They are getting an additional star simply because I got a call back. The 11 previous calls and texts to Pete, Chris and Sally were unanswered and messages left were unreturned. Aron said I shouldn't have repaired the car. After 11 unsuccessful attempts to contact the dealer and being told to turn it in to my insurance I had the fender fixed. Aron offered $250 store credit which I accepted very reluctantly. This is 1/2 of my insurance deductible in store credit. I do not feel that this is a fair settlement and I still feel that this is the worst dealer and repair shop experience in over 50 ears of driving. read more

I have no need to replace my car right now. I own it. But I have noticed that it's feeling dated, especially because it lacks a lot of the newer technological advancements now found in the newer models. This week I received a personalized email offer for a trade-in from my local dealership now called Subaru World of Hackettstown, NJ. I though the offer was attractive enough for me to consider entertaining it, even though, as I said, I have no need for a new car right now. I am perfectly happy with my current 2013 crosstrek and no car payments. I visited the dealership this Saturday 08/13 around 11 30 am. I was greeted by Rajonie Hammond in sales. I mentioned the offer I had received, he asked to see it and proceeded to show me the available crosstreks in the lot that fit what I was looking for. After looking at 4, I settled on a Limited in white, fully loaded. We proceeded to go inside to work on the numbers. This is where things started to go south. I had an offer for the trade-in with specific numbers in it, based on specific knowledge of my car's mileage and condition because I service it at the dealership. As the salesman started working with his manager doing the classic dealership back and forth routine, at first, he came back with an offer for a trade-in for 7k. About half of what the personalized offer stated... As I was ready to walk away, then the salesman went back to his boss and returned with a 12,500 trade in offer for my 2013 crosstrek. I can't help but question, If I was sent a personalized offer based on their knowledge of my car, which is serviced at the dealership, why try to pay less than what originally offered? Why go to the charade of luring customers with a bait and switch tactic only to reverse it once pressed? We moved on to figuring out financing, which I asked to see options for 36 and 48 months with down payments of 5k and 10k. Rajonie went back and retuned with numbers for all scenarios. After discussing with my wife, we decided that we would pay the car outright with our savings and avoid the 2.9% financing offered. The offer stated 1.9%, but we were given an excuse for how that would not be possible... yet another misleading bait and switch attempt... Rajonie had gone back to his boss and returned with a balance of 21k as the amount to be financed, which was 2k more than the number we calculated based on his information. We pointed out the issue, he went back to get confirmation and things got very weird... When he came back, he said his manager had asked him to leave. He said he did not want to leave until we at least were taken care of and helped by someone else. He was upset and apologized repeatedly to us, he went back into the offices, there were words being exchanged. Then he had to leave. As we were sitting there, by ourselves for a long while, we saw one of the managers approach the sales desk next to us. The customer there was signing paperwork, then we saw him facetiming with someone, and pointing his phone to the white crosstrek outside the window, the one we were about to purchase... the gentleman proceeded to go outside, got in the car... he seemed very excited as he was showing someone on his phone. I told my wife "I think they sold the car to that guy"... Sales manager Dave Page tried to justify our blatant mistreatment by blaming it on the salesman Rajonie Hammond, who was asked to leave for apparently failing in getting us to pay more than we wanted to for the vehicle. Rajonie had been very helpful to us, we felt he was professional and transparent and tried to do his job walking that fine line between helping a customer and doing the bidding of a greedy sales manager looking for a better deal for himself. It is clear to us that Dave had decided to sell the car to the other customer because it was a better deal for himself. He thought it was perfectly fine to ignore and stall an almost done deal for the same car with us, because he was able to get a more advantageous monetary benefit out of the other customer. We understand the motivation, but we cannot forgive the mistreatment and absolute disrespect we were subjected to. We were there first. We were pretty much ready to pay once the 2k issue was to be resolved. There was an absolute lack of integrity on behalf of Subaru in the business dealings we witnessed this morning. See a copy of the personalized email offer I received, which motivated me to go to the dealership hoping to trade-in my crosstrek. We were told these emails are sent by Subaru HQ and sometimes the dealerships do not know about them... but the dealership logo is at the top and the name of the sales manager himself at the bottom... plus the email comes from a subaruworldhackettstown domain... isn't that strange? This was the bogus argument given to justify their bait and switch tactics for the value of the trade and APR. read more
