Alexis did my hair on Friday May 10th around 2:45 our original appointment was for 2:15. Before the installation she showed me the hair on tracks and I told her that's not what I had in mind when I spoke to her on the phone. I was looking for Micro links that are individually attached to the hair. She assured me that it would be fine and the look would still be the same, I showed her several pictures of what I wanted including some of my pervious hair installations. After she was done the look of the hair was not what I wanted the top was very bumpy and did not look natural and the hair was incredibly tight and painful in my skull ( I also voiced this to her multiple times through the process and she said it would feel better after a couple hours). After she left I attempted to style the hair and after 2 hours I could not get the top to look like I wanted, the bottom of the hair looked very scraggly while the top was way too full. I texted her immediately that night asking her for a solution. She said she would come the next day before my event to "fix" the hair. She did not come that day. I was forced to go to my event with ruined hair, multiple people there told me the hair did not look like I usually get it it looked unnatural. I was very disappointed and sad. The next day she finally came, an hour late again, and I told her that after last night I just no longer wanted the hair in I was unsatisfied with the job and the uncomfortableness of the hair installation and wanted a refund. My head felt like it was weighed down and tight I could not sleep comfortably for the past two nights. She told me she would take out the hair and refund me the money minus the cost of the hair. I asked her to do it right then but she said she didn't have time since she had another client. The next day I texted her, and she sent me a long list of expenses and told me I would not be getting any refund for the job I was completely unsatisfied with. After this I asked to speak with her manager in New York, Kevin. Over a three way phone conversation Alexis because extremely aggressive, she told me that she knew where I lived (because she had installed the hair at my house) and that I was a liar, she said she was going to "pull up" to my house to fight me all because I was unhappy with her services. COME TO MY HOME AND FIGHT ME ? What type of company is this and why is the manager not able to help me or at the absolute LEAST refund my money this is a complete SCAM. Both my time and my money has been wasted during this process, one of the days she was late prevented me from going to work that day. I have been extremely distraught during the whole process emotionally, when I had to attend an event I had been planning for months in advance with a terrible installation job in my head. Alexis is amazing! My hair is an addiction of mine that I have been struggling with for a while now. I have very fine straight caucasian hair and tried every type of hair extension, growth, add in method I could find and all of them either didn't work and didn't work very long. Then I called Alexis. Customer Service: I called her on Saturday hoping to get in that week and she made time for me the next day. Sunday morning when I woke up I had over slept and was already running 10 minutes late with gross oily hair. I called her asking if she had anymore openings and she was kind enough to come in almost an hour late after I had showered. It took her about an hour to put in my hair and the whole time she was talking to me and making me feel comfortable and welcome. Many of the people I have seen in the past weren't interested in keeping conversation and were always trying to push their products on me. It makes you feel uncomfortable and unvalued as a customer and with Alexis I didn't feel that way. The Shop: Her shop was clean and organized. The floor was swept and the shelves and merchandise were clean and displaced nicely. Her building was easy to find and there is plenty of parking. She is such an amazing stylist. "I hope you die" are not words you expect from a professional in the context of a service related issue. Anybody can be courteous when things are going well. It is only in the tough times does one's true personality come thru. My yelp review has nothing to do with pricing which is what the business owner wants you to think. I would be willing to pay any amount for good extensions and professional interaction. The one star is for bad product and TOTAL lack of professionalism. Alexis might have put in extensions the correct way but does not have true customer service skills. Alexis became increasingly insulting through her texts to me after I posted my review. She sent me a text threatening to put my personal number on yelp until I removed this review. I will not let her threats intimidate me. Instead I want you to know the type of vindictive person Alexis is. Here is her response to this review: "I hope you die and your son is better off without an evil dark spirited woman such as yourself that's why cancer attacked you because you're not meant to be on this Earth thank God they have doctors however God is the final call and he has the final judgment and there's no doctor that's going to care what God has in store for you." Crazy right? I have several other similar rants from her which are shocking. I now know Alexis is unbalanced. She seemed nice enough when I first met her. I thought I had a good experience at her salon getting the extensions put in. I even drove 50 minutes from San Jose TWICE in the same week once for the extensions and then once for an adjustment. But as soon as I raised issue with my extensions Alexis changed. She became super defensive and took absolutely no responsibility for any of it. I have super short hair. Others refused to do extensions. Alexis said no problem and I believed her. I told her I wanted chin length extensions but she had me order 16 inch bundles. I didn't question it and now I realize I should have. After the first installation the extensions seemed to looked great but only if I didn't move my head at all. No matter what I did the hair in back of my head tangled. After 1 week I went back to Alexis. I showed her how much hair came out during 1 detangling session (had a ziploc bag full). Alexis took out a row in the back. It felt lighter but did not solve the tangling issues. Instead of getting better the tangling got worse. I texted Alexis and she dismissed it as me having too much hair on my head and being inexperienced. Well she made the decision to put in 3 bundles of hair. She did not once explain that it could lead to increased tangling. If I had known that it would tangle so much then I would never have agreed to 3 bundles of hair. I had the extensions taken out 8 days after installation because after my second visit to Alexis the tangles had gotten so bad that I couldn't do a thing to get them untangled. The tangles even shocked the professional stylist I went to get the extensions taken out. Alexis did not take any ownership. She repeatedly made it seem as I was doing something wrong and was not able to manage the hair. But now, after reading all the reviews, I see that there are others with excessive tangling. So I am not the first to experience this issue! It has been a nightmare dealing with Alexis. I know she seems to have lots of good reviews which is why I contacted her but now I hope my honest and detailed review will help someone in the future and save them from a similar traumatic experience. Before I met Alexis, I had no clue how hair extensions worked, how you have to match your hair texture, how many different ways of attachment....etc, the Internet research only got me so far :). All the other hair extension places I visited were somewhat intimidating, you can't touch the hair, or only touch the hair through this hole in the plastic wrapper, no one was willing to really sit down with a total amateur and explain things. Alexis is amazing, she literally took a whole hour to sit down with me and answered every single question - I had a lot of questions ;). RUINED MY SISTERS HAIR THE NIGHT BEFORE HER 22nd BIRTHDAY EVENT!!! My sister went to Alexis very excited to have her hair done before her birthday, she always gets long extensions but the shop she usually goes to was busy. Alexis came in and was extremely RUDE. First She trimmed my sisters hair on our carpet without putting any cover down so after she was done I had to personally vacuum the entire carpet, I don't understand why she would cut anyone's hair without laying down any cover or moving into the restroom. Second she was EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL, when she came in she said she was hungry and wanted some of the chips that were on the table. She was doing my sisters hair while eating Hot Cheetos and DID NOT wash her hands between AT ALL!! That's disgusting. I have bone straight very fine caucasian hair and did a lot of research before taking the plunge with extensions. I read all of the positive yelp reviews for Studio 40 and knew this was where I should go. I was able to book a consultation appointment on the same afternoon that I called to inquire. Alexis spent a good hour with me and went over all the options and hair options. I walked out knowing that I was dealing with a very educated business owner. I was even more thrilled when I was able to book an appointment for the following morning, especially since New Years eve was only two days away and she was out of town. Alexis probably spent two hours total from start to finish, and she did exactly what I had asked for. I loved it immediately. She advised me to return in four weeks for my maintenance appointment. Over the 5 weeks before I called for a follow up appointment, I've really learned the amount of upkeep involved in keeping the hair looking nice. I also decided that I needed more hair because I can only describe it as "Franken-hair" with a bad mullet. I have more hair in my crown area than I do anywhere else. As time wore on I realized this was not the look I was trying to achieve, so I called Alexis ordered another bundle of hair and accepted her next available apt. It's been two days since I was back to see Alexis and this woman is amazing. She really listens to what look you are going for, she sets you in the chair and she creates magic. Alexis did an amazing job! My hair was really short and many hairstylist couldn't do extensions on them but Alexis was the only one that said it was possible. I don't know how she was able to make it look so natural considering how short my hair was but it looks just like my own hair. My friends all love my hair extensions. She is also very accommodating to her clients schedule and will work around your schedule. You don't have to set up an appointment weeks in advance like some places require. I finally found my hair salon and stylist. My hair used to be thick and full but through age and medication it has thinned out so much. That is when I decided to look into hair extensions. I have had many weaved in extensions in the past. However, after I sat for countless hours the final look as well as the comfort of it on my head was not there. The hair looked frizzy the next morning and my head was so sensitive. I realize some people braid your hair a little tighter than others and a sensitive scalp is expected for a few days. In my case my braids were so tight I started to break out with tiny bumps on my scalp and I could not even sleep on my side. I couldn't stand to touch either side of my head. All I was thinking is I want to look like her, I want her hair!!. I soon realized her hair looked of much better quality that what I kept running to the Asian hair stores to when I needed to buy hair. I then figured if she could have the hair extension look I've been trying to get then she could do my hair like that. I inquired all my options with Alexis. She was so knowledgeable about the different types of hair as well as the method of attaching the hair. I felt so comfortable with her, she took her time explaining everything to me and never appeared to be a pushy person only out to make a sale. I decided I can't let this opportunity for the extensions I desperately wanted to pass me by. I decided to buy the virgin Indian hair. It looked simply beautiful and natural. Alexis braided my hair to my scalp what a difference than the other places. It was tight but tolerable nothing like what I previously experienced. She then weaved in the extensions when we were done I looked fabulous. I couldn't be more pleased with Alexis work and her hair( Product). Remember you get what you pay for. I'm not saying her hair is outrageous in price but it is a little more costly that the Asian store prices but you can't compare the quality. Alexis hair is top-notch it really looks like the hair the celebrities wear like Beyonce etc.. I had to have another salon fix my hair one week after seeing Alexis. She never returned my call to follow up to fix my hair. She doesn't color or cut to blend the extensions. She had already cost me a bundle to put the hair in. I ended up paying more than the price she quoted. The new salon said my extensions weren't a good quality of hair. This talented woman spent several hours with me and would not settle for anything less than acceptable . She really took me from No to Whoa. I asked her about 872 questions and she answered all of them with such patience and never made me feel uncomfortable.
