After a year of having my Sisterlocks retightened by a "Sisterlocks Brand Ambassador" in Antioch,…read moreseveral rows of my locs in the back just broke off. The Brand Ambassador had no explanation of what was going on and had stopped taking my calls to make a new appointment. I did a Google search for hair loss specialists and found SANKOFA Braiding and Natural Hair Care in Oakland. Dr. O NanaEfua, owner and operator of SANKOFA is a Board Certified Cosmetologist, Trichologist and Holistic Health Coach, with specialized training and experience in hair loss and natural hair care, as well as a Sisterlocks Loctician. She knows her stuff! She is knowledgeable about how to treat and maintain our natural hair. I made a consultation appointment with her and was very impressed that she was able to diagnose my problem and recommend treatments to repair my locs. She restarted my broken locs and they are now growing beautifully. The treatments she recommended have given my locs new life. I would recommend any Sister having problems with her natural hair to schedule a consultation with Dr. O NanaEfua at SANKOFA. She is professional, knowledgeable about black hair care and truly cares about our hair and how it looks once we leave her practice. She also offers services that address different types of alopecia, hair loss caused by PCOS, all types of scalp disorders and hair loss caused by nutrient deficiency, medications and hormone imbalances. I am more than happy that I found SANKOFA and once again I am proud of my beautiful Sisterlocks.

My lower back length Senegalese twists are all that I wanted-- and more. Upon arrival, we had a consultation where she took the time to patiently walk me through the process of understanding cost of the service as having three variables: 1) girth/size of braid (from micro to jumbo--she even has a standardized ring to help you decide), 2) length of the braid from the scalp (shoulder length, mid-back, etc.) and 3) density of the braids (how many braids will be placed in your hair given the other two variables). I had a LOT of questions--primarily how she would be able to make braids that were durable on hair that was recently tapered and less than an inch long in some parts. After ensuring I was happy with the intersection of what I desired and what was possible (as well as all feeling good about the price), we started the process. First, it was quite the visual experience watching her blend hair colors. From my description of "medium brown with light brown/golden tones", she took three different colors and started turning them together in her hands, personalizing my hair bundles. She said no two of her clients ever have exactly the same color-- what an unexpected delight! After having me approve of the final hair, she started braiding. I appreciate her checking in with me to ensure I was happy with a few test rows before reaching a point where it would not have been as easy to pivot (she didn't need to change anything, but I appreciate the question). I also benefitted greatly from the stillness offered in her salon. I closed my eyes and enjoyed silence (even nodded off a few times), engaged in captivating conversation, stared at degrees on the wall and wondered "What happened to Julie?"** and watched a master beautician impart her knowledge onto the next generation through apprenticeship. Overall, I am so grateful a ChatGPT prompt for "low-tension braiders in the Bay Area" displayed her shop. NanaEfuwa specializes in taking care of the scalp and your hair (as well as your entire being), so in addition to using natural products, she utilizes specific techniques to hold the braid in slight counter traction to oppose the pull generated while braiding. Between me, NanaEfuwa or Una holding the braids at various times, the entire process was at most uncomfortable-- never painful. I wanted to write this review to thank NanaEfuwa and help others to make a great decision to reach out. I have found my Bay Area Braider and maybe even a new friend! **look at the two "Board Member" signatures on the degrees and compare 2018 to 2022. Of course, you have to book a service to sit in her chair to do so. You should. :-)

I have worn over 60 hairpieces since the 1980's. Since my hair is now too thin on the sides, I…read moreneeded a full hairpiece to cover the sides of my head as well. Secondly, I wanted to buy a very short hair style, about 1/4 to 1/2 inch long - similar to what actor William Shatner uses. Lolly confirmed she knew the style of William Shatner's hair. I even showed her a box of 4 older hairpieces I used to wear that were all too small and did not blend into my thin hair on the sides. She charged me $1,012 for the hairpiece. As she was creating my head mold, I was unable to see myself in the mirror, so I asked her, "Is this going to come down lower on the sides?" She answered that I should have confidence in her because she has some customers that drive or fly hundreds of miles just to see her. Three months later, the new hairpiece arrived. It was NOT a full hairpiece that could cover the sides of my head! It was the same exact small oval size as all my other older hairpieces that are all too small. She insisted that she style it for awhile. An hour later, I had short hair on he top like I wanted, but there just wasn't enough hair on my own head on the sides to blend in the hairpiece effectively. She told me my own hair was too short and that I should let my hair grow longer. When I came back about 4 weeks later (my hair grows slow) she tried styling it again. But my hair style looked like a "minnie Mullet" being longer on the sides, and short and spikey on the top. I hated it. But now, the 30-day "Satisfaction Guaranteed" clause of my buyer's contract was expired. She denied that I ever told her I wanted a larger hairpiece that would cover my whole head. She became tense and argumentative when I told her that I did not receive what I had requested and paid for. No apology or refund was offered, however. This hairpiece is no different than the old ones I already had- except that I paid $1,012 instead of the usual $125 I pay for Chinese made hairpieces of the same small size, content and style. WARNING: My advice to anyone getting a hairpiece from Lolly: Get every word WRITTEN DOWN ON PAPER! Otherwise, you will later be made out to look like a fool or a liar. After 30 years, this is the only bad deal I every got from a hair replacement technician.

I've opted to break my experience/review of my hair transplant procedure here down into segments…read morefor a bit of coherency The initial consult: Parsa Mohebis office was a wonderful experience. The staff was incredibly friendly on arrival, offering beverages and a book. Dr. Gujrati was right on time for our consultation and brought me into his office to explain the procedure and worked with me on how we could possibly achieve the desired look I was looking for. The consultation lasted about 45 minutes and was not rushed. Dr. Gujrati took my concerns into consideration and took an in depth, detailed approach. He analyzed my hair follicles, performed a miniaturization study, and took careful measurements to determine my face structure, and find a desired hair line that was both achievable, realistic, and what I was absolutely hoping for, possible with FUE. At this point I knew this was the right choice for me. I was sent home with a book on hair transplantation written by Dr. Mohebi, and kept in close contact by the clinic with any questions or concerns. I was also started on Oral Finasteride for 3 months to ensure I would not experience side effects prior to undergoing the surgery, as this would affect the results. Fortunately, however mild they may be, I did not experience these side effects. The Procedure: Being a medical professional myself in critical care, I often work with surgeries and am closely involved in both the procedures, and recovery process. On arrival for procedure day, I was greeted by Dr. Gujrati and his team where he explained how the procedure would be done step-by-step, which methods of mild sedation and local anesthesia would be used, when breaks would occur, and the overall plan for the day. I was then given a dose of Valium for relaxation and proceeded to the procedure room. In the procedure room, there was a time-out done before beginning to ensure everyone involved was on the same page, and we could proceed safely. Also will point out that you will be awake for the procedure, however I was not uncomfortable in any way. After checks were completed, we began. I was given regional anesthesia (the only mildly painful part of the procedure as it is a numbing injection into the scalp given via needle syringe). However, this quickly went away once the numbing effect started. Dr. Gujrati made a point to make sure that I let him and the team know if I felt any sort of pain or discomfort throughout the procedure, as they would quickly address the situation. Once it was confirmed my scalp was numb, the incisions for follicle placements were carefully made by Dr. Gujrati and donor harvesting began. I was relieved that Dr. Gujrati was very present throughout the entire 9 hour procedure, either in a hands-on manner, or by closely supervising the team of technicians (also highly skilled) who were performing the procedure. Although I was technically undergoing surgery, it almost felt like a spa day. I was comfortable, relaxed, entertainment and music was provided, as well as a delicious lunch. I even snuck in a couple of naps throughout the process. Once we were finally completely 9 hours later, the surgical sites were carefully assessed and I was provided a ride back to my hotel, and instructed to return the next morning for education on washing and post-op care for the next 10 days which were crucial for recovery. Finally, I was cleared to return home and provided with a gift bag (thanks!), as well as extensive educational material regarding what to expect throughout the entire recovery process, and how to care for my newly transplanted hair. Recovery: The recovery process went as expected based on the education provided by Dr. Gujarati and the Parsa Mohebi website. I was encouraged to call with any concerns and and even had a virtual visit roughly 10 days post op with Dr. Gujrati to assess the progress of recovery. Really it could not have been a smoother process. As I'm still technically in the recovery phase (10mo), I can just say it's going exactly how it was explained. With Dr.Gujrati having undergone a FUE procedure himself with Dr. Mohebi, it's immensely helpful as he explains his personal experiences throughout the process. Truly an expert in the field. Overall, I am EXTREMELY pleased with my experience with Parsa Mohebi Hair Restoration, and my procedure performed by Dr. Gujrati and team in the San Francisco office. I could not recommend this office enough. While I am still not 100% complete with the recovery process which may take 12-18 months, growth could stop right now and I would still be amazed with the results. Sincerely, Thank you!

From the very beginning, Angela, the office manager, was absolutely outstanding. She keeps everything running like a finely tuned engine. She is organized, responsive, on top of every detail, and made the entire experience smooth and stress-free. As for Dr. Rosanelli, I can't say enough good things about him. He is charismatic, personable, and absolutely professional in every way. During my consultation, he thoroughly explained both transplant procedures. Because I had spent years researching hair restoration, I knew what questions to ask and what the current best practices were. Everything he explained was completely accurate and consistent with my research, which gave me tremendous confidence that I was in the right hands. I had even considered traveling to Turkey because of its reputation for hair transplants and significantly lower prices. In the end, I decided that having my procedure close to home--with the ability to receive follow-up care and immediate attention if any issues arose--was well worth it. Looking back, I know I made the right decision. It's now been two months since my hair transplant. I've also completed four PRP treatments and, at home, I'm taking finasteride and using light therapy as recommended. I haven't seen new growth yet, but that's exactly what I was told to expect. Dr. Rosanelli explained that visible growth typically begins around the four-month mark, with full results taking about a year. So far, my experience has been excellent, and I look forward to seeing the results develop over the coming months. I'll come back and update this review as my progress continues.
